About this house rental
Our casita is super comfortable, charming, safe and a convenient place to call home while visiting magical Antigua, Guatemala. Our fully-equipped home has all the conveniences of modern living in the timelessness of old world Central America. The kitchen was fully renovated in 2023, adding the modern comforts we all appreciate to this charming home.
It is an ideal house for couples, families, groups of friends, volunteers at the many nonprofit organizations surrounding Antigua, those who are attending Spanish school, or anyone who simply wants a peaceful place to enjoy beautiful Guatemala.
The house is located within walking distance of everything in Antigua. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Central Park, dozens of restaurants (just 5 minutes to the famous Hotel Panza Verde), the best grocery store, the food and craft markets, a wonderful spa, a gym, and even a movie theater.
The exact location is 9th Calle Poniente between 5th Avenida Sur and Santa Lucia. It is a small, gated community of townhomes with a security man on duty 24-hours a day. Our cheerful home is located at the back of the property, across from the pool, and farthest from the cobblestone street so the noise of traffic is far away and you can sleep peacefully, waking to the cacophony of birds in the trees behind the house.
The house has everything you need to make your stay in Antigua comfortable and memorable. The colorful dishes, fabrics, and wall hangings bring Guatemala indoors, and locally-made rod-iron chandeliers in the upstairs rooms hang from 15 foot ceilings. The modern kitchen has a good selection of pots, pans, and utensils to make cooking easy, and you can stay connected to the rest of the world through the cable TV and fast and reliable high-speed internet access. The comfortable beds are fitted with 100 percent cotton sheets and the bath towels and pool towels are 100 percent cotton. The full-sized washer and dryer will make vacation laundry a breeze. You'll also appreciate the screened windows (unusual in Antigua) that will keep the mosquitoes out so you can enjoy the great Antigua weather all year round. We also have pressurized water - a rarity in Antigua - so your showers will be powerful!
Upon your arrival you will find the Welcome Book, complete with helpful information about restaurants, sites, activities, excursions, and tips about the house. Our property manager lives in Antigua and our house keeper is also an excellent cook if you would like to hire her to cook you a typical Guatemalan meal.
So, enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while sitting on the tiled patio watching your kids swim in the huge pool just in front of the house. Or stroll the grounds and look up to see the volcano Agua keeping a watchful eye on you, while you pick limes from the garden trees.
And at the end of a day spent in Antigua, you'll be happy to return to our quiet and peaceful community. You'll walk through the gates, be greeted by the security men who are always on duty, return to our lovely casita and feel instantly at home!

This property was a perfect distance from all the sites we wanted to see. The host was great to deal with and timely with their responses.

Great house, cosy and clean, out of the main hustle and bustle but still very walkable to everythhing. The pool is a real bonus on a hot day. We liked the local sourdough pizzza place as well.

Wonderful stay in Julie's casita. I just regret not having booked a longer stay.

Our family of 4 (teens, ages 15, 17) loved staying in this casita. It is clean and safe and welcoming! Plenty of room for everyone inside the house and around the pool in this gated community. All of the furnishings were appreciated and the communication was excellent. This casita is close - only about a 10 minute walk to the central park and near everything. We swam in the pool and could see the volcano! Very beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend. We will come again!

This house is very quaint and comfortable.
We stayed here for five weeks while I studied Spanish at CSA
It’s a condominium housing project. That’s very quaint and quiet. We had great neighbors.
Property manager Valerie, is very responsive to any need. The cleaning lady Zoila is an honest, hard-working, kind and friendly lady.
She only charges $20 to clean the entire house.
We had a very nice time in Antigua.

Lovely house
We had a great experience at Casa Alegre. It was the perfect place to stay so we could walk or take a short Uber/Tuk-Tuk ride to the market, supermarket, parque central, etc. as well as easily get to Panorama for activities for our son. The location within the condominium was also lovely, as it was away from the street and right in front of the green area and pool. We had some initial bumps with the internet not working, but the property manager worked diligently to get it fixed as soon as possible. The rest of our 5 weeks there was uneventful, in the best possible way.
Warning: if you rent a car, know that while parking is available, the alley is very tight and there were often other cars parallel parked making it hard to squeeze by. We had a van, which made this worse, but it is something to consider. The parking situation is probably the only reason why we would possibly consider staying somewhere else in the future. If you’re not renting a car, don’t hesitate to stay here!

Would highly recommend Case Alegre
The house was so perfect for our family of 6. It was beautiful and in a safe, gated community. The house had enough space for all of us too. We loved hanging out outside on the patio day and night. The pool was great too. It isn't heated but it worked well for our kids and my husband. I got in once, but was chilly! The kitchen area worked well for us to prepare meals as well. The laundry room was so great too as we did laundry often throughout our stay.
The condo is located very close to restaurants, markets, shopping, activities, the Central Park square. We walked most places and always felt safe. we were there during Semana Santa, which was an amazing time to be in Antigua. I would highly recommend this facility.

Awesome
My family loved our stay. It is an excellent location and great to relax by the pool when not exploring beautiful Antigua. The guards were very kind. I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely wonderful!!
The casita was even better than the pictures!! We couldn’t believe that a place this charming was to be our home for a month!! Tiled floors, vaulted wood ceilings, and a covered patio to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine after dark.
Julie or the property manager promptly answered all our questions.
The recommended driver, Victor, was truly fantastic!! He was kind and courteous. His prices were reasonable, he spoke good English and was so much more than a good driver....making recommendations, giving advice (when asked) and most importantly....he had a great sense of humor!!
We had a beautiful view from the front patio of grass and trees and flowers and birds. And the sparkling blue pool was a refreshing sight after a hot day of walking thru the cobbled streets of Antigua, where you have hundreds of good restaurants to enjoy, lots of atmosphere, colorful shops, churches, ruins, markets and a beautiful town square for people watching.
It was comforting to have 24 hour security and gate guards. Especially upon arrival, when everything felt strange and “foreign”....but after a few days they became friends always with a smile and a friendly greeting. Never once in Antigua did we feel anything but safe and welcome. Even walking home in the early evening after dark.
Drinking water....there is this amazingly simple pottery purification system....and we drank the tap water constantly and had no “issues”. It was safe as promised. In fact...once back in The States....I realized how refreshing and pure it tasted compared to the tap water here.
In summary....we can’t say enough about our Guatemalan stay. Both the accommodations and Antigua were wonderful. I almost forgot to mention the birds!!!! Every morning amazing, unusual birdsong....so different from the song of American birds. An experience in itself!!

Splendid getaway in Antigua
Safe quite secure location with easy access to the activities in Antigua.
The Condo has all that is needed for comfort. The suggestions from Julie for travel and things to do in Antigua were very helpful. It was an excellent place to stay for us as first time visitors to Antigua. I would strongly recommend this property to others.

Relaxing retreat in beautiful Antigua
Julie's casita was the ideal home base for exploring beautiful Antigua as well as a short trip to Lago de Atitlan. My favorite part was waking up each morning to the symphony of birds in the surrounding yard. Julie's assistance along the way, especially her recommendation for drivers as well as other general travel questions, was always prompt, detailed, and all around helpful. The guards on the property were friendly and helpful to us, as well. Our only disappointment was that we didn't get a chance to make use of the beautiful pool! This is the place to book if you need a relaxing retreat while surrounded by old world beauty.

Perfect setting and perfect set up...
I just returned from a week stay at Julie's place. My two children and I spent a week viewing Antigua's special Holy Week. Her place was perfect for the three of us and would have comfortably housed four or five of us. The town house is cozy and very nicely done with all the essentials you need in a home away from home. It is set at the end of a small lane that is part of an enclosed guarded small group of townhomes. Her place is right in front of the shared garden and pool. It is also easy access to walk into the heart of Antigua the central square. We spent the entire week walking to the main square about 2-3 times a day. There are multiple places to eat and shop along the way. We will be back to stay here on our return to Guatemala in the near future! It was a pleasure to rent and we hired her cook twice and had two wonderful traditional Guatemalan meals. There is also room for a car if you rent one too. Nice working with Julie! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Great location in Antigua.
This is a well equipped home within walking distance to the local market, central plaza and local supermarket. The owner, Julie was quick to respond to our questions and the housekeeper (optional) was very pleasant. On the plus side, this property is directly across from the swimming pool, which we used almost everyday. On the down side, the swimming pool area also contains the local BBQ area where local residents gather on weekends to celebrate life. I’m a senior who enjoys the sights and sounds of people having fun so this was OK for me. It may not suit people looking for a quiet getaway. We would take our wine out to the patio area so we could enjoy kids playing soccer or families around the BBQ. We met some nice local people at the pool. Antigua is one of my favourite winter locations and I would definitely use this rental again.

Serene, pleasant location in Antigua
Safe and quiet with very friendly guards at the gate; condo is at the back of the complex so no traffic noise or diesel fumes (in a city and on a street with lots of both from trucks & busses). The condo is as-advertised: fully equipped (coffee-makers, blender, bathrooms up and down stairs, good mattresses & Wifi), good washer (we never used the dryer) and two very nice pools (one lap pool, one shallow pool for kids or wading) kept to pristine conditions. Gardens & pool area very pleasant and well-maintained; condo is clean, well-stocked and easy to use; we liked our recommended driver Victor Aviles and booked his services for trips out of town.

Lovely casita close to town
We loved our stay in this lovely casita! The home is well equipped with everything one could need. It is clean and cozy. The grounds are very well maintained - with a swimming pool and lovely gardens. The condo is conveniently located - only a short walk to town or a very short tuk tuk ride. The casita felt like our home away from home. We loved waking up to 'our volcano' view and sunny skies.

Great!
We were here for 3 weeks. The 3 bedrooms were perfect for our family. We loved the pool. The kitchen had everything we needed. Having a TV with HDMI connection was also nice. Washer and dryer came in handy. Julie was easy to het a hold of and was very helpful when unforseen circumstances came up. Easily walked into town and it was right around the corner from the Antigua Montessori School.

A cosy home far away
We had a really good time at the house. It was nice to come 'home' after a tour in the city or the region. We stayed with our three children one week in the house and the girls enjoyed the pool a lot. Every day they jumped in.
We did enjoyed a fully equipped house and everything was arrange well: our pick up at the airport with the firm house owner Julie advised us, getting in the house, etc. a place to come back to!

Guatemala Spring Break
We brought our kids back to Guatemala for a visit over their spring break. We were looking for a more economical option than a hotel. The condo had all of the options that we needed for our teenage daughter (15) & son(12). Three bedrooms which gave everyone their own space. There was a TV so kids got their TV time. A kitchen where we could cook. Our son enjoyed the pool. It was a safe and security. We’d definitely consider staying here again for a future visit; as well as recommended to the other Guatemalan Adoptive families that we know.

A safe retreat in a lovely ,well equipped home!
My husband and I spent four weeks at Casa Alegre from mid January to mid February. It was truly everything that we wanted/expected! The pictures accurately show the features of the home and condo property. The home has a very well equipped kitchen, great living area, excellent laundry facilities, comfortable bedroom and beautiful bathrooms. The home is well equipped but has a down-to-earth sense ...tile floors, wood furniture and Guatemalan decorations give the home a comfortable , local feeling .
We attended a nearby language school that was a 3-5 minute walk from the condo. We watched TV and made use of the desk and excellent wifi when we were studying. The outside patio area was a lovely place to sit in the afternoon when we were studying, relaxing or watching the residents visit and play.We SO appreciated the safe environment of the condo property....it was great to head out to explore Antigua but then retreat to the welcoming smile of the security guard as we returned "home".
Julie, the owner was prompt in replying to my emails; she was very accommodating and helpful from my first inquiry to my last email. I would not hesitate to recommend Casa Alegre as an excellent choice for Antigua accommodation.

Very Guatemalan experience!
This was our first trip back since adopting our boys. We wanted them to experience their culture on a budget. Renting this house for 10 days was the answer. Very comfortable and roomy. Very safe and secure which was our priority. Beds and towels very clean which made me happy since that is the first thing I check in any hotel. Guards at gate very helpful and friendly even when we were up early (4 AM) several mornings to travel. Will definitely stay there again when return Thanks Julie!

Lovely hidden gem in Antigua
My husband and our 11 year old daughter and I stayed at Casa Alegre for one week. The purpose of our visit was a reunion with our daughter's family. We had a get together of 12 people and the setting was perfect. There was a huge lawn, a trampoline and a pool for the kids to play on. Julie helped me make arrangements for someone to cook a lovely meal for us on that day. We ate outside and it was just lovely.
The house itself has everything you need. We cooked many of our meals in the kitchen and having the laundry machines was a great help. The WIFI was a huge plus, as my husband had work to do. It worked very well. The guards were helpful, and we felt very secure. The distance into town was a little more than I had expected, but we made do. A quick tuk tuk ride had as where we wanted to be.

Convenient and quiet
We thoroughly enjoyed a few days in the condo. It was quiet and convenient for our family (admittedly, we do prefer to be a bit away from the action). We were easily able to walk around town. The pool was lovely - chilly, but the kids enjoyed it. The house was comfortable, had everything we needed and the full size washer/dryer was a bonus. The patio with table & chairs was also really nice.

Wonderful retreat
My 10 year old and I spent 10 wonderful days here. It is close enough to all the activities and restaurants while being far enough away to relax. My daughter especially enjoyed having a pool to go back to after a day of activities.
The unit had everything you need to call it home for your stay. I will certainly return!
