About this house rental
Captains View is a cozy two bedroom beach house overlooking the southern beach and bay of Cherokee Sound. Beach chairs and lay off chairs are nice for relaxing in the sun . The kayaks make for good fun over the shallow water or to fish from . Also included is bikes for sight seeing or trips to the grocery store .
The arrangement of a 14ft boat and outboard motor is your option .The front porch is definitely the most frequently used area of the home partly because of the view but also because it provides a shady, secluded, breezy spot to relax during your vacation. It is the perfect place to have your morning coffee, read a book in the afternoon, or retire after a long day of bone fishing. The Pro kayak is a nice addition for fishing the shallows .
The House is situated only a few footsteps away from the Long Dock where you can swim ,fish ,tan ,picnic and relax. There are many flat sand bars to walk on during the low tides; they are great places to find beautiful shells and sea life . Early tides bring in the fish including the allusive 'Bonefish' that rome freely along the shallow banks of Southern Bay. 'The Long Dock ' and its uncounted wooden pieces has with stood many hurricanes sometimes with little reconstruction needed . This dock is a pillar for the community and is loved by the residents, as well as non residents , both old and young, have helped maintain its condition giving them use and enjoyment. There is loads of history to be found around Cherokee from the early days of the settlement so make sure to bring your walking tennis .There are networks of uncharted paths from several hundred of years ago to be explored . There was wooden boats ,vessels and smacks built for many years on the shore of the inner creek. The art work on the living room wall will reveal that time period . You can learn more stories like this by meeting friendly locals of Cherokee and hearing about the history of this place.
Guests can request access to Watching Bay beach, on the ocean side through a private development 'The Reserve at Watching bay '. There is property for sale , with a variety of vacant lot locations .This is all within walking distance, but bicycles are great for riding through town, especially if you need to go to the grocery store. You can also rent a vehicle in Marsh Harbour beforehand to get around the island in if you wish to leave Cherokee Settlement.
The uniqueness of this home is not only what it does have but it doesn’t have. By separating yourself from a land line phone (which we do not have in the home!) you can find other ways to entertain yourselves. Cell phones do work if needed . However, keep in mind that there is free wireless internet access available so you can bring your business with you if you insist! Cable TV will give and added option for relazation and news information if needed . We hope you will come enjoy a peaceful vacation with the ones you love at Captains View in Cherokee.

This is the best place to stay on the island if you're looking to kick back island style. The house is miles away from the hustle of the town with an off-the-grid feel. My husband and I spent most of our time exploring the waters of Cherokee Sound and it's quaint town. You can see nearly every star in the sky from the long dock at night. Excellent shell picking, too!

My mom and I stayed at Glen's for 2 weeks and it was nothing short of amazing. The house was clean, organized and well stocked. The location.. Crystal clear blue water that seemed to never end. We could see sting rays from the Long Dock! Glen was on-site when we arrived to touch base and give us advice on how to spend our next 2 weeks. There was never a moment while we were there that made us feel unsafe.
Cherokee Sound is such a pleasant neighborhood and not too far off the beaten path but it's far enough away from everything that we were able to relax without all the noise but could hop in the car to get wherever we wanted on Great Abaco. Unless you are confident that you will not need to leave the home, a rental car is a must as taxi prices can be high. There is a grocery store in Cherokee that makes deli sandwiches and frappes, but we'd definitely suggest stopping at Maxwell's in Marsh Harbour. There's a boat repair shop that has coin operated washing machines in Cherokee.
Our favorite feature at the home was the kayaks. Glen pointed out an area that we could kayak too if we wanted to be wowed. If he gives you this suggestion, listen to him because you will not be sorry. We brought our own blow-up rafts and if you like to relax- we definitely suggest bringing a blow-up raft to float on the calm waters.
All of this to say that we will definitely be back. Glen welcomed us into his home and community like family, and we couldn't be more thankful. Thank you, Glen!

Our second stay at Glenn’s place. The best spot in Cherokee. Right in front of the beach and long dock. This stay was just as perfect as the first.

The house and location was amazing. We loved everything about this house. Great view, great beach. We enjoyed kayaking each day, walking the dock and walking around the small but very cute town. Everyone is very nice. Glenn the host is extremely friendly and helpful. We cant wait to come back next year for a longer stay.

Smooth booking process and excellent property. Glenn has a fantastic home. We did a little bonefishing caught a few fish. Had some fun highly recommended.

As VRBO hosts ourselves, we were very impressed with the beauty of the area and the house was very clean, comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. You can't go wrong staying in here! Glenn was helpful recommending a bone fishing guide. It was a wonderful stay. Be sure to visit Elbow Cay for a fun day out!

We loved staying at Captain’s View. The house is lovely and had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Cherokee is a very friendly place and so many of the neighbours stopped to say hello. The village store is ideal for top up shopping. The garden at Captain’s View is lovely and we spent time either on the lawn or on the beach. Thoroughly recommend the house and Glenn is a great host.

Had a wonderful 5 night stay here. Highly recommend this little piece of paradise. Enjoyed the fantastic view from the front porch, walking and swimming at the pier, enjoyed renting the boat (must do) and exploring the surrounding beaches. House is very comfortable and homey. Very small community, but does have a small convenience store stocked pretty well with necessary items. We also found a small local pub (Pete’s Pub) for lunch and drinks. You will not find a more perfect property for the price. Glenn was very quick and helpful to answer any question we had. Thanks so much for having us and sharing your home.

This trip was just what we needed. The house was clean and quaint. So close to the beach and the long dock that we took frequent walks and swims. We visited Marsh Harbour and Hope Town on Elbow Key. Pete’s bar is a must! Great food and casual atmosphere. We’ll be back!

Absolutely loved the location of this house. The n the most beautiful beach in the world! We saw all sorts of wildlife, went to Pete’s pub, explored the tiny little neighborhood and the kitchen is setup very well for cooking with a gas grill. The long dock is truly amazing with 4D sunsets (just go, you’ll see)

We loved our stay at captains view. The waters around the longdock are shallow and calm. Its great for wading and the area contains a larger and more diverse amount of sea life than I imagined. We saw live starfish, conch, sand dollars, sea urchins, stingrays, triggerfish, a damsel fish and even a nurse shark. A clear calm night makes for great stargazing on the longdock benches. Captains view has all the conveniences of home with prime location to the water and dock. You can see the ocean from both bedroom windows. The town has a grocery store in case you forgot to buy anything at marsh harbor on your way down to cherokee. Little harbor is right up the road and we visitied both dan's cave and sawmill sink further south.

We had a wonderful family trip at Captains View in Cherokee Bay. Property is exactly as described. Dock and beach only a few feet from the cottage. Glenn was super responsive and helped with anything we needed.
The rental is a bit far from Marsh Harbour and restaurants—which is exactly what we were looking for and expecting—but tip-grab groceries on your way in. (There is a smaller store 2 blocks from the house as well.) Glenn gave us the number for a driver, Michael, who was excellent. He picked us up from the airport, took us grocery shopping, and even stopped with us for a bite to eat on our way to the property. Loved our stay. Highly recommend for those who want to get away for a quiet Bahamian retreat.

Wonderful experience in the quiet hamlet of Cherokee. Glenn is a superb host with a deep knowledge of Abaco. His home is spacious and the kitchen is well equipped - it is located next to Long Dock which makes for perfect morning watching for fish in the shallows and sunsets in the evening. The home has AC but most nights we we slept with the windows and let the breeze come in as the neighborhood is very quiet. Had a lovely relaxing time.

I told Glenn I was afraid to write my TRUE review of his place!! I don’t want the secret to get out. This place is amazing and exceeded every expectation we had! It is truly one of the most beautiful areas that we have ever traveled to. The people of Cherokee are WONDERFUL….so friendly and a pleasure to talk with. The long dock provides one of the most beautiful views you could ever imagine….and just wait til you see the beach and dolphins in Little Bay. Glenn was a joy to work with and renting his boat was just an added bonus. We had fresh caught seafood several of the nights we were there. It was easily prepared in the well stocked kitchen. The Cherokee Food Fair, just a short bike or car ride had everything we needed to add to our seafood meals. What a dream!! We will be back to rent from Glenn for sure!

Great location with a nice steady breeze of the ocean. Walking distance to grocery store, gas station, laundry mat. A very nice place to relax, play, fish, swim and explore the beach for shells. Nice, manicured yard with privacy in back. We spent a lot of time sitting on the porch reading and relaxing.

I was able to get inside without any problem. The problem came when I tried to let my family know I had arrived and could not find the wifi password anywhere. I had to call my son in the US to email Glenn - luckily he responded right way.
Everything was perfect after that for 2 weeks.

Glenn’s place at Cherokee is the real deal. Beautiful villa and right on the pristine sound. Bonefish are just steps away. The long dock is the community hub, and the people in Cherokee are Fantastic. What a true legit experience, a rare thing these days. Glenn Is super helpful and keeps everything tight. This is the go-to place for a real experience on Abaco.

I can not say enough about this place. If you want to totally relax and be surrounded by all of the beauty that Abaco has to offer then this is the place for you. Steps to the beach and to a very long dock that was just recently updated. The home was the perfect size for the 2 of us and was equipped with everything that we needed. We would rent this place again in the future.

I can not say enough about this place. If you want to totally relax and be surrounded by all of the beauty that Abaco has to offer then this is the place for you. Steps to the beach and to a very long dock that was just recently updated. The home was the perfect size for the 2 of us and was equipped with everything that we needed. Our trip and stay in Cherokee Sound could not have been better. Our house comfortably accommodated the 5 of us, Glenn was very helpful and welcoming and the view was beyond words. We loved walking the flats on low tide and we couldn’t stop taking about the incredible water color! This place is an absolute must see!

Paradise. That would be the best way to describe this house and location. It is located on the ocean right by the Cherokee long dock. Tucked away in a peaceful, beautiful town, you will be able to explore, relax, and fish to your hearts content. We enjoyed taking the boat out exploring the many Cays, fishing, biking, kayaking, and soaking in the sun. We were able to find many types of shells, see shark, stingray, and starfish. Glenn is a wonderful host that will take care of anything you need and make you feel welcome.

My sister and I go on vacation together every year and we both thought this was our favorite place to stay ever! The owner Glenn was there to meet us and show us around. He also left us a big pile of tomatoes from his garden which we enjoyed all week. Additionally when we had a bit of car trouble he completely helped us out!
The location was super. Neatest spot in town. People were friendly......not that there were a lot of them but it is the closest house to the long dock, so occasionally some walked by. you have a phenomenal view all the time. Maybe 3-5 minutes away is winding bay, which is maybe the most beautiful beach in the world.
Loved that it had two identical bedrooms so we each got the nicest ha! The kitchen was super and had it all. The shower was very good.
Nice back yard and neat outdoor shower. The grocery store in town was much better than we anticipated and really had it all.
If we go back to Abaco we will definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay here. The view from the front porch is incredible and it’s also very nice to have a grassy yard to just enjoy at the end of the day, while still able to see that same view. The house was set up well and we were very comfortable. Didn’t even turn the tv on for more than 30 minutes the entire week...absolutely no need to and thank God for that.
