You'll love the PRIVATE Pool & Short Distance to the Beach at our Gulf Shores Vacation Rental beach duplex. Renovated in Spring 2021. We are lucky to have our own pool, just for our duplex that can be heated from October to May for $60 per day, looking south toward the Gulf. We are only 2 rows of houses from the Gulf, about 200 yards back from the beach. You'll find public beach access at each end of the block.
Plus you'll have FREE Golf and Activities every day of your stay to make it even better (value of up to $700/day). **Not available for Jan/Feb long-term rentals.
When Pigs Fly is a stacked duplex, one floor over the other with the same basic floor plan except that the upstairs has stairs to the Rooftop Crow's Nest with Panoramic Views of the Beach & Little Lagoon. Each half has 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths and sleeps 6-8.

With the recent renovation we have eliminated the twin bed bedrooms and 1 of the sleeper sofas to better fit the requests of our guests. There are 2 twin air mattresses available instead of the second sleeper sofa.
The Upper Unit has a Jetted Tub in the Master Bath, a separate prep sink and Undercounter Ice Maker in the kitchen island and Stairs to a Rooftop Crow's Nest. You'll also find a sleeper sofa on this level. There are Covered Porches on each floor for Enjoying the Wonderful Views, Gulf Breezes and Sound of the Surf. We have Covered Parking for up to 4 cars plus additional parking for a Boat Trailer or 2 more cars.
Outside, around the Private Pool, there is also a Poolside Table & Chairs, Lounge Chairs, Charcoal Grill & a shaded Picnic Table under the house. You are welcome to use our assortment of Beach Chairs, Beach Carts & Pool Toys during your stay at When Pigs Fly.
Please note we are unable to rent to unchaperoned college groups or groups under the age of 25. Maximum of 12 adults. No bachelor or bachelorette parties. Hangout Festival weekend there is a $1000 refundable security deposit.

This stacked duplex has the potential to be an amazing vacation home. Overall, it’s a great location and our family enjoyed it. The pool is a good size and nice depth for kids to play. However it was very dirty, the pool company came tossed some chlorine in and cleared the filter but never vacuumed. It really needs to be cleaned. The duplex is perfect for a large extended family, the upstairs sofa needs to be replaced. It is broken down and hard to get out of once you sit down. It is nice having laundry rooms in both units, kitchen and dining space was large enough for the whole family to enjoy.

Our family rented this duplex as 1 house. There were 1 adult with 3 boys ages 5 to 11 in the upper house and 4 adults with a 2 year old in the lower house. There was plenty of room. Furniture in the homes appear to have been recently updated. If you are planning on cooking during your stay the kitchen is updated and has good cookware. We did a combination of cooking and eating out. An extra refrigerator/freezer in the carport area was nice for water and storage for kids' snacks. The carport area was perfect for playing outside games letting kids play without being in the sun all day. Picnic tables are a plus under the carport area. Access to the beach is more of a drive to one of the close public beach parking than a walk. House does have beach wagon and lots of chairs for use on the beach. Unfortunately we had one issue with the master shower late one night. After a text to the number that was provided, a quick response fixed the matter. We celebrated my 60th Birthday while staying here. I would highly recommend this property.

Overall the property worked great for us. When we got to the property the AC on the first floor wasn’t working but they quickly came to fix it and within 24 hours was working again. The kitchen cooking ware was pretty low quality and could use an upgrade, the toaster on the second floor would burn toast instantly. The pool was great, the patio around it is wooden so pretty much everyone in our group ended up with at least one splinter by the end of it. It rained a few times while we were there and the pool was dirty towards the end of our stay and there was nothing to clean it. Location was great and bedrooms/bathrooms were all great!

We vacationed with my sister’s family. Loved that we were together yet had our own space. Both units were very clean and we had plenty of space. I will say we were on the bottom and we could hear my sister’s family upstairs walking. Loved having our own pool. It was very windy and double red flags all week so less beach time so we spent lots of time at the pool. Each unit had wonderful decks to sit on with plenty of seating. The management team was very helpful. They had several beach items as well as a wagon which was much appreciated.

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, everything was perfect a bit pricey but very nice. Might need to update the furniture sooner than later but nice. Have to watch parking meters and speed limits are very tight!

The property worked for us, but was not quite as nice as the pictures seemed. I did not realize before we got there that there would be no way to access the upstairs unit without using the outside stairs. Therefore, we were a little more separated from the rest of the family than what we were hoping.
The location was nice. It was within walking distance to the beach. I appreciated that they had a wagon and beach chairs/sand toys that we were able to use. We were able to walk to the beach even with 6 children in tow. I would have preferred to be on the beach, but this was a good compromise. It was a close drive to restaurants/stores/attractions. There was a pier within walking distance that we were able to fish off of.
The reason I’m only giving 3 stars is bc the pictures make it look far nicer than it was. The floor was dirty. My daughter’s feet were black from walking around barefoot. The floor was taped down in some areas. The bathtubs and showers really could use an update. We could tell that they had been cleaned, but they were stained and looked dirty still. The upstairs bathtub is jetted and was very discolored. I would also recommend some new pillows. My husband and I struggled with the pillows and stuffed beach towels underneath them. I also would have preferred to have some rooms with bunk beds or twin beds to accommodate children. It was tricky to sleep them in full size beds.

We stayed at when pigs fly in gulf shores September 10 to 17. We all loved the interior of the two units. Both kitchens were updated and gorgeous. We had everything we needed for the week. The king bed in the upstairs unit was very comfortable. The private pool was fantastic. We do not have a pool at home so that was an important reason we chose this rental. The location to the beach is a little farther than I would have liked. Just walking to the beach to go walk the sand was fine. However, when you are going to have a beach day with all of the gear necessary for that, it is too far to carry everything you need. We loaded everything for 7 people into my husband's truck and he drove us to the beach, we unloaded and he drove back to the house. There is public beach access but it was going to cost $15 a day to park there. My husband didn't mind walking back to the beach each day. That's how close the house is to the public beach access.

We loved our stay. It was our first family vacation in 3 years-since my husband, their dad and pa had died. We missed him a million times because he would have loved this house and pool. The youngest grands had a blast. The only thing we were disappointed in was the distance to the beach and no sure access. We had to go through yards of other properties and we thought we had an access that was closer. The house was perfect for our 5 families and babies. We had a great time.

We loved the property, the private swimming pool and access to Gulf Shores restaurants and stores. It was a short drive to Publix and Walmart. I loved that they had a storage area full of floats, beach toys and a wagon to use. This helped so much.
The house was beautiful but in need of a few improvements (ice machines didn't work, deck was in need of repair, lamps didn't work, etc) We vacationed in August, very end of the summer so I assume they wait until the summer busy season to repair all things. But overall was a great rental - we would book again!
The communication with the property owners was top notch! Leading up to the trip they were very quick to answer any questions I had. While on property they were quick to answer as well or send maintenance when needed.

Wonderful stay in this roomy upstairs downstairs place. The pool was especially nice given the heat of July 4 week. A couple of items in our unit needed addressing and the management was prompt and fair. Please note that there is only one king bed in each unit. Lovely porches with southern exposures. Great stay for our two families. Close to restaurants and attractions and not a bad walk to public beach accesses. Thanks

Nice house. Clean. Some pool items left there to use. Pool is nice. Kitchen good. Close enough to beach (10 minute walk). Beach not too overly crowded. Ice machine upstairs.
Tracy, the manager, very nice. Called an hour into our stay asking about air mattress and she had it handled in 2 minutes. That was the only call the whole week. Would I go back if we go to gulf shores, absolutely.
Cons -
Walk to beach was easy but a few blocks away (10 mins). Would be nice if there would have been a path to cut through neighbors houses. No biggie. Pool would get hot but that’s not anyone’s fault but the sun. Could use more plates, accessories in kitchen but there was enough there. Not enough of a con.
BBQ unusable though. Rusted grate and in rough shape. Made friends with neighbor and used their Weber.
Ice machine upstairs was not taken care of properly. Arrived and open door to ice falling everywhere. Later that night found the tray that is supposed to be inside, I’m downstairs unit stored away. Cleaned out ice machine and inserted tray. Awesome after that.
Check in was about hour late. Didn’t get in until 5 but that’s ok. At 445 cleaning crew let us in upstairs as they finished downstairs. That was nice.
Overall I give it a 4.5 / 5. Would have recommend.

1) House was immaculately clean.
2) Easy beach access
3) Well furnished: comfy beds, plenty of outdoor seating, big TVs in living rooms and bedrooms
4) Pool was nice and warm without the heater
5) Extra refrigerator at the ground floor for storing drinks and food while at the pool
6) Lots of pool toys, beach chairs, etc.
7) Fairly quiet area compared to Beach Blvd, but close to restaurants and shopping.

We had a wonderful time staying at When Pigs Fly! It was close to everything, clean and the private pool was the icing on the cake! My only issue was the AC on the first floor. It did go out during our stay, someone was sent quickly to repair it. But it never really cooled the floor off again.

House was really nice and clean. Pool was a treat for the kids, just wish it would have been filled to the top. The walk to the beach was 7 minutes. After all week it was tiring walking there. Overall beautiful place. Only thing I would say is maybe more bath towels and kitchen. Tracy was wonderful and very helpful.

Very nice property but definitely needs some repairs on decking and railings. Some of the deck boards are loose and many of the balusters were either loose or detached. Quite a few low quality repairs made on the deck rails ect with exposed screws that scratched you if not careful. Most of the inside of the property was very nice and updated except the panels on both refrigerators did not work or dispense water. As for cutting between the houses for beach access that was a no go with stickers all along the path. The beach access was quite a walk especially for small children so we drove them to the public parking area across from the beach access pathway. Having the heated pool was a lifesaver with the Temps dropping so low and the cool winds. The kids loved the heated pool. Overall a fun vacation.

Everything was as stated. However, the property needs some work - floor issues, ceiling leaks, fence broken, etc. It's a great property and we might be back. But we'd have to know that it's been given some attention before paying that price. Also, we were thinking about staying an extra day and I talked to someone on the phone and texted the number provided twice and got nothing so we didn't stay. When the lock wasn't working, I did get an immediate call back which I appreciated.

The stay was amazing! We loved the pool and the area the home was in. We did have some issues with the air and the refrigerators not making ice which limited the frozen drinks alot! But the host was very quick to send maintenance even if they could not fix the ice situation. They did get the air corrected very quickly. I highly recommend this place. We hope to return someday.

Great property for large groups
The property was fantastic for a large group. We had 11 adults and two dogs. The yard was very wet and the dogs kept getting in the mud, so that was a little disappointing, but overall I’d stay there again. The floors were sticky, but we expected that at the beach. The rest of the house was clean and neat. We ended up driving to the beach with our stuff and then walking to the public access as we couldn’t see another access point, but everyone was okay with that. The pool was nice and we used it daily. We ate at a lot of good restaurants and enjoyed every minute of our trip.
