The location is great! The view is absolutely amazing! My husband and I enjoyed the sunrise from the deck every morning. The only thing I would recommend is an outside table to accommodate more people.

The property is amazing, the owner made the process and experience flawless. The panorama view from the living room is priceless. We spent mother's day weekend with our whole family and plan to return asap. We had everything we needed in the house and the neighbors were friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for peace and quiet!

My family needed a well-deserved spring break mini vacation. And we found it at this beachfront home. My daughter told me that even though it was too cold to swim in the ocean, this was the greatest vacation that she has ever had, thanking me. To me, that's all that needs to be said.

We rented Ye Scurvy Dog for an off season weekend. House was nice. Exactly as described. Great views from the wrap around deck and good access to the beach. Would stay here again.

Great location right on the beach. Ocean views from living space and bedrooms are spectacular. Great house to stay with extended family and friends. Clean, spacious rooms. Fully stocked kitchen.

Our family stayed April 10-14 and everything was so wonderful. We had a wonderful time our oldest said it was the best vacation we had been on. I highly recommend renting this house Elizabeth is a wonderful host. We hope to rent again in the future.

The location and views were amazing!! The only way the view could have been improved would be functional seating on the deck. Many of the deck chairs were broken. The house was basic but comfortable for our large family.
We would highly suggest better, sand-free transition from the sandy areas into the house to cut down on so much sand being tracked in.
Our family of 12 had a fabulous time and would stay again in the future.

Oceanfront totally mitigates a week long Nor'easter. Upside: large great room with dining table to accomodate our family. and sleeping arrangements were good. Easy access to beach even for the little ones.
Downside: Broken toys, beach chairs, rusted empty propane cannister, building screws and nails littered the pad under the house. and grill was in bad state, a couple of the deck chairs were in minor disrepair but exposed nails.
Kitchen was well stocked with plates, bowls cups and glasses (except only two wine glasses) However, considering the house sleeps 17, there's not much in the way of large cookware and no mixing bowls.
Nevertheless, the whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Ye Scurvy Dog was a great place for our two families to celebrate New Years. House was as pictured & described. Spacious and wifi was good. Mattress was a little tired and dryer only got luke warm (maybe time to replace), but everything worked. Ocean front decks and bedrooms were wonderful.

First, the rough stuff. This property’s address is a bit difficult to find and a bit tricky to access if you have a large SUV like we did. Very narrow gravel road and short turning radius into the driveway. Most of the inside is very dated except for the flooring. The bed pillows were stained and extremely uncomfortable. The shower curtain was moldy. If you have any food inside be sure to dispose of it or you will be infested with ants every day. Two of the TVs didn’t work. The living room furniture upholstery was stained in areas. There was hair in some of the bathroom drawers. The house did not feel clean.
The good stuff: The upstairs was nice. The view is okay except for the boarded-up eyesore of a house just to the north of but very near this property. You’re about 5 or so miles from the majority of restaurants, etc.
It was our first time in Nags Head and we got married on the beach behind the property while there. We will come back to the area. The homeowner mentioned they plan to update some things in 2023 but it’s doubtful we would rent again.

The property lists it sleeps 17. There were two rooms with bunk beds. Each of these rooms had two bunk beds with an upper bunk for one and a lower bunk that was listed as a double but was only big enough for one. Only two small children if they didn’t move much could occupy these lower bunks. Thus, there were two rooms that really held a total of four people each or a total of eight. These eight had to share a tiny bathroom. On the same floor, there were two rooms barely big enough for a king bed each. These couples had to share one tiny bathroom There was a rollaway bed for one in the closet of one of these bedrooms that could have slept one if you could find room for it. Upstairs was a larger room with a king bed and a larger bathroom. This bathroom also needed to be used by those upstairs. For 16 people, we ended up putting two sleeping bags in the upstairs bedroom so everyone had a place to sleep. The cover over the mattress on one of the downstairs kings had a blood stain. The refrigerator had two broken drawers when we arrived and the ice maker didn’t work—had to buy ice daily. The coffee maker worked most of the time and the toaster was not clean. The advertised view shows a beach front view but does not include the condemned house in the front left view. The whole time we were there, the city was reclaiming the beach and there were many large pipes across our beach front with moving heavy equipment. When I called the city, they said the owners knew and should have informed us. My interactions with the owners, especially the husband was distressing. Before we arrived, I asked if they could arrange for sheets and towels which I paid for. Initially I got no response to this request until I called Vrbo. I requested enough towels and sheets for 17 people. When we got there there were not enough sheets and towels. They did arrange later to bring more sheets but later we noticed there were not enough towels. The husband was very rude to me stating that I should have noticed the towel shortage right away to keep them from having to come back. They showed up the next day. They should also have dealt with the kitchen and cleanliness issues as a matter of course before we arrived. The husband offered to come after we arrived to fix these things but at that point we just didn’t need more distractions. When I suggested that these issues would lead to a bad review, the husband threatened to remove us. Per the city he could not have done that.

When we arrived, the refrigerator and freezer reeked of an overwhelming fish smell (we later learned that the prior tenants had stored bait in it). When we reached out to the owners, they sent the housekeeper back but all she did was wipe it down with Clorox wipes which accomplished nothing. She left us with a bottle of vinegar and baking soda and said "good luck." My wife and I spent the better part of two days trying to get the smell out (by repeatedly washing both refrigerator and freezer with vinegar) before it finally became tolerable. The refrigerator was also old and rusty, with no interior light, and had several broken shelves and drawers (one of which I cut a finger on when fumbling around in the dark). Overall, the place was filthy and poorly maintained. The kitchen drawers and lazy Susans were full of food crumbs and dishes and silverware were dirty. Lightbulbs throughout the home were burned out (including in the master bedroom shower, over the sink and over the outside stairs where lighting was needed badly). The shower curtain in the master bath was caked with mold and dirt. The family room floors under the furniture were full of black dog hair. The area under the home had numerous old, rusty, broken and inoperable beach chairs which are a safety hazard to children and should have been thrown out years ago. The second-level deck porch-swing facing the ocean was broken and unusable. Half the deck chairs were broken and could not be used. The four downstairs bedrooms are cramped and dated. The downstairs bedrooms can accommodate 16 people but had only two bathrooms. The home accommodates a total of 18 people but had a total of 14 (old, flat) pillows. One of the downstairs bathroom doors would not completely close (let alone lock). The upstairs bathroom had the locks on the outside of the doors (so people could be locked in but not out) which I had to change so the doors could be locked. There was only one floor mat for two exterior doors leading into the house (one inside and one outside for each door was needed) and no rugs anywhere in the home which meant that sand was repeatedly tracked in and covered the floors for the entire trip. The best things about the place are the ocean-front location and the top floor (which included the master bedroom, family room and kitchen/dining area) has been partially remodeled and would be very nice if not so filthy. The appliances are old and should have been replaced long ago.

Enjoyed our stay. Right on the beach easy to walk to sand. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets from both decks. Easy to cook and hang out . Plenty of room for our group. Would return on our next trip to OBX! Glad Hurricane Ian didn't hit OBX!

If you are looking for oceanfront view, this is the place, only steps the beach. We had plenty of space, but could be a little bit cleaner. I had to communicate to the owner the ice maker did not work, some lightbulbs were out, and was missing a tv remote, but able to download app to control tv. House had all the kitchen supplies we needed. The biggest thing to me that was not disclosed is to get to the house, you have to drive down a one way gravel road. Also parking is tight, but we managed. Overall, vacation was a success. Thank you for sharing the amazing beach front view!!

Never stayed right on the beach. Loved it. Beautiful Sunrises. Cottage was amazing. Will definitely stay again. Just wished parking was better. Had to constantly move vehicles around.

While the property was located right on the beach the private driveway to the house needed to be trimmed as I now have numerous scratches on my vehicle that will now need attention.
Otherwise everything was as advertised and fit the bill for what we needed

Wonderful view, perfect access
Our multigenerational family group of 11 folks were perfectly accommodated in this wonderfully situated house - it has a private beach access and very roomy family, kitchen, eating area - roomy outside shower could use some hooks on the walls as could one of the downstairs bathrooms - all in all everyone loved it and would go back

Lovely week
We had a great family reunion. Beach was perfect, House was great for all of us. Our stay had a few hiccups- no ice maker, washing machine was clogged (my husband fixed it before the repairman came). But owners were lovely and it was the beach!!!! Thanks for a great stay!

Our amazing stay
The Yea Scurvy Dog was everything you could want in a vacation house and more. The views were breathtaking. All but a couple of mornings we woke to see dolphins swimming in the waters in front of the house. The house had everything you could need from plates, pots and pans. Every utensil. We had an amazing Easter dinner and the dining table fit everyone and the house even had a high chair for our little one. The additional twin over full bunk beds were great for all the kids. We saw such amazing sunrises and sunsets from both porches. The swing on the first deck is a great place to watch either and just relax and listen to the waves. We had wished the outdoor shower was working so we wouldn’t bring as much of the beach indoors but the indoor showers provided a powerful rinse. My four daughters and I have very thick long hair and the water pressure got all the shampoo/conditioner out.
Some of our favorite memories from the ten days we were there are the views outside and from the living room, the dolphins and pelicans, our private beach, ghost crabbing and the sliders in the two king masters on first floor that allowed for us to open the sliders to hear the ocean.
If you get a chance go to Corolla and eat at Dountz on a Stick. I promise you won’t regret it.

Not all is negative with this place.
Location is amazing. If you want to be right on the beach, walkout and sit with your kids or grandkids, fabulous.
Layout, good. 1 master upstairs. All other rooms downstairs, and all 4 bedroom downstairs, share bathrooms, not my favorite.
Cleanliness, not good. Owners are nice, but the cleaners, are not doing their jobs. Dirty diaper under bed, old candy, half eaten behind couch. Carpet, missing in a few area, dining table has so many crumbs in the creases, it's very disturbing.
Plumbing issues... a major leak under the house of what appears is sewage. Owner were aware, but didn't have it looked at while we're there. I believe it lead to the sinks and the tubs backing up. And with 12 people, it was very irritating.
Microwave is so rusty and black on the inside, I was scared to use it.
Refrigerator, had no ice machine, light was out, and filter needed replaced. It also would not keep everything cool, I think it's time to replace it.
Serious issue with flies.... at one point there were more than 50 flies buzzing around the kitchen. With all doors closed, they were possibly coming from the drains.
Washer only works on heavy duty. No Dorr on utility room, which I thought was weird. With the bedrooms, right next to it.
Vacuum cleaner, has NO WHEELS, so vacuuming is a real work out.
Zero cleaning supplies
Zero sheets
Zero towels
Zero dishtowels
Zero wash clothes
Zero toilet paper
The view is too die for, the owners are out of state, so the property maintenance team has really let the house go. I paid 5k for a week, I do not feel I got my money worth.

Great place
The views were amazing! The house was warm and inviting, very homey. Beds were comfy. The kitchen was completely stocked with all the dishes and silverware you will need. Being able to wake up and look out the door and see the sunrise over the ocean is like being in a dream, and to be able to walk out and be right on the ocean is even better. We had a great time and can't wait to go back again!!!

Beautiful property with awesome views!
We had our annual girls weekend here and the property was beautiful! Pros: location, size, ocean front and easy rental. Cons: Driveway was grown up and needs some attention because you can hear it running down the side of your vehicle which I wasn't thrilled about since I have a new SUV. The property is older and pretty well maintained however there was dog hair all stuck to the couch and there were some ants in the kitchen. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our stay but there is room for improvement.

Truly on the beach - no dunes !!
Amazing views, responsive owners. This place was perfect for us- we stayed with grandparents who could see kids from the deck, and we loved the ability to run back and forth with full visibility from the beach to the house and vice versa. We came with kids of varying ages so it made it easier to keep track of everyone. Porch swing and various deck views were wonderful. House was clean and as described.

We had a wonderful time in this house. Had some HVAC issues while we were there buy were handled quickly by the owner. Can't beat the location. Older style OBX house.

Really great location and good time all around
I usually stay around milepost 12, this was my first time back in south nags in a while and it was great. The surf was perfect, this house is right on the beach, no dune to climb over. Views of the beach and night sky are perfect from the top deck. House itself could use some work here and there, and fridge probably needs to be replaced but the layout is great with the top floor being open and having a deck up top. Will definitely consider staying here again

Magnificent sunrises and right on the ocean
ANY detriment to this property was negated by the first sunrise and the sound of the ocean when you walked out on the decks!!! The owner, Elizabeth was very receptive to an HVACC issue that happened shortly after we arrived and once it was determined that it could not be resolved, had a technician out there quickly and repaired within hours!! Sitting in the main great room and looking out those sliders at the panoramic view of the ocean is beyond priceless and the family vacation of memories that we enjoyed within that space is priceless! Thank you Elizabeth for sharing you beach home with us!

We needed a large number of beds with direct beach access for the best $ and this place met those expectations. The beach is directly under your toes when you step from stairs to ground. The number of homes w direct access is limited in this area so the beach is fairly quiet. Yet you are just minutes away from everything Nags Head has to offer and lifeguards are on patrol here if any assistance is needed. Included are my renter tips. 1. Vehicle Access is from the backyard due to beach erosion. So give up following Google maps to get there. Elizabeth will guide you thru it. 2. Elizabeth and I corresponded about the maid service. They aren’t doing a great job and she is discussing with them. Just plan to set aside 5min to finish the work upon arrival. 3. The beach sand IS everywhere even the path from the water hose to the house stairs, so - set up a foot bath on the stairs w a bucket of water to dip those toes and rinse off before going in. You can use the hose first but this foot bath gets those last couple steps of wet sand off. Another option- if it’s dry sand, we left a broom by the front door to get dry sand off our feet before entering the house. 4. The upper bedroom bed is noisy. Grab an extra pillow or blanket and wedge behind the headboard for a slightly quieter night. 5. If you have younger kids / toddlers- maybe bring a hammer. It’s an old place. The nails on the deck, railings, chairs, etc could catch a barefoot or hand. 6. There is a great view of the ocean but it’s not unobstructed. A former ocean front home (now boarded up) was nearby. However this was a great landmark when beach walking at night. No worries on which set of house lights are yours. ;)

The house is located on the beach and the views are spectacular. We would all gather early in the morning to watch the sunrise and enjoy the wonderful breeze from the ocean. The view is the selling point of the property. The property was fairly clean and ready for use. There was a bit of an issue with getting into the house because we di not receive the check-in code until 3:30 pm on the day of the arrival. This was problematic because there is no service in the area so it took some time to get service, login to the email, and then get into the house. It would be simpler if the code was provided at least a couple hours prior to check-in and then the owners could simply activate at 4 pm. We entered the property and set everyone in their rooms. It is important to note that the pictures make the house seem bigger and more modern than it actually is which was a bit of a bummer upon arrival. It is stated that the house can fit 17 people but this statement is pushing it. We were a group of 14 people and it was cramped. Technically, you can fit 17 people if you use the mattress on the floor, the sofas, and the foldable bed.Another important note is that the available blankets/duvets did not seem clean. This was an issue because had we known, we would have brought our own blankets.Overall we enjoyed our stay but that is largely due to the convenience of the beach and the stunning views. The property itself was not as advertised which is why we give it 3 out of 5 stars.
