Alan and Juliet were very good at communicating each time we needed something. They really wanted us to have a great time. The property is nicely maintained. The rooms are spacious. The kitchen has everything you need for a long stay. Overall, it was the perfect place for our group of visiting scholars. We will come back.

Great DC House
We rented this place for my parents and sister's family during Christmas. Gorgeous DC house that is very comfortable and well appointed. The hosts are terrific -- strongly recommend!

Great location, nice property
The location was great, a short uber to the National Mall and area sights. The bones, decor, and layout of the house were great for our group of 7, two of which were children. Any more than that would be too crowded. We all enjoyed the property very much, with one exception. The furniture could stand some improvements. Three of the four platform beds had the platform slats fall, therefore the mattresses fell and had to be fixed as best we could do. The property owners were responsive and did offer to come in to check on it, but I could tell it would not be a simple fix, so we made due the duration of our stay and were super careful getting into bed. Mattresses were comfortable. The living room sofa and furniture were really very uncomfortable, and the room did not seat more than 5. I think with a little creativity and new furniture, that could be improved upon.
Overall though, we enjoyed the property and would stay again.

Wonderful location and very clean apartment
The checking process was very easy. Great communication with the host. Everything the host mention concerning the unit is completely accurate concerning the unit and location. The host check in on us durning our our stay to ensure everything is going smoothly. Kitchen fully equipped with appliances, we cooked breakfast every morning. Parking I thought was going to be a huge problem since we had a disable child, but it ended up working out for each day. The stairs are definitely steep so be careful. Wonderful home and wonderful host.

Would definitely recommend!
Beautiful property on a gorgeous tree lined block. Perfect location, quiet, family - friendly neighborhood with lots of amenities. Short walk to cute bistros and restaurants. Quick ride to Capitol, and downtown area. It was a nice day so we walked! Communication was seemless, and Juliet was a delight. She answered any questions I had immediately.
Would definitely stay here on my next trip to the area!

Great place for a big group
We had three generations stay here for a Thanksgiving trip to DC: four grandparents, two parents, and two teenagers. There are very few rentals that can comfortably accommodate 8 people, but this place fit the bill.
General Info: The house is very cool- it was built in the 1880s but majorly renovated in the relatively recent past. The kitchen appliances are high end (it has a large Viking oven/range, a full sized refrigerator, and an under counter microwave with a motorized drawer). There's also a large dining room table. These features were key because we had Thanksgiving dinner at the house. I couldn't find any other rentals where we could have pulled this off.
Comfort: The beds were all comfortable. The bed in the back bedroom is fairly close to the wall, so it's a little difficult to get in and out of bed. However, that's a small price to pay to have a king bed. The room with the trundle beds has two doors: one "regular" door that leads to the upstairs hallway, and a "pocket" door that connects to the master bedroom. Maybe it used to be a closet for the master bedroom? Regardless, it's a slightly awkward setup. Not a big deal, just a little weird. The bathrooms have been updated and were fine. The stairs are fairly steep, but we took it slow and didn't have any trouble. The wood floors creak, and there are windows above some bedroom doors, allowing light to enter. Having a washer and dryer was a great plus. There is a fire station a block or two away, so we did hear an occasional siren. The house is on a pretty quiet residential street, but it is near an intersection with a larger street so there is some car noise at times.
Safety: The neighborhood was in line with what I expected. There was a new Porsche SUV parked in front virtually the whole time we were there, and the grocery store down the street had some shady characters hanging out in front. That kind of contrast seems to be typical in DC. There isn't much separation between the "good" areas and the "other" areas. I walked to the supermarket both during the day and at night with no issues, but it is a big city and you should stay aware of your surroundings.
Getting Around: A couple of the grandparents in our group have some difficulty walking, so we Ubered just about everywhere. Uber rides to places like the Capitol and the Mall were usually under $10 and we could get to the major sites within 15 minutes.
Overall, we would not hesitate to come back.

This was a perfect place for our needs. It had amenities and the location was great. The house is older, but it’s been beautifully renovated.

Amazing DC 4th of July
Loved the house! So different from what we see here in Seattle. Great job updating, but still keeping the feel of a 1910 home! Easily used Uber or walked to get everywhere we wanted to go. The air conditioning was possibly the highlight of our stay :)

Enjoyable stay at Shaw home
Our family of 8 enjoyed staying in the Shaw property. We had every amenity necessary to sleep, shower, cook and relax when we weren’t seeing the sights of Washington. Location near the metro and a Giant grocery made staying there efficient. Good communication with host. It is a lovely home away from home!

Exciting trip to DC
We had a great time in DC. This house is very nice and spacious. We enjoyed ourselves very much. The owners are attentive and extra courteous. They make you feel very welcomed to their property. Everything is well stocked and most everything is in great order and condition. I would have given this property 5 stars but even though the owner came in to try to fix the downstairs sofa bed, it was still unusable. My brother (70 yrs old) had to sleep on the floor with the extra mattress from the upstairs trundle. The pocket door in the living room did not close like advertised so we were unable to create the "bedroom" downstairs as well. Other than that, the parking is extremely difficult around the property as well if you rent a car. I would say that was the biggest headache on a daily basis. This is the perfect property for a group of 7.

The place was awesome and perfect for our family of 10!!!
The town him was close enough to all DC activities and perfect for giving us a big city experience. Walking distance to groceries and restaurant. We had cars but metro was right there if we wanted.

Beautiful home in a central location.
We loved staying here while in town for a National Speech Tournament. No complaints!

Lovely home; 3 bathrooms a plus!
Responsive owner, nice bathrooms, workable kitchen, 3 kIng bedrooms were comfy, as was the twin (but the twin trundle is really awkward). Only downside is living room seats 5 comfortably - others will be on floor or hard chairs. Easy walk to grocery store (Giant), coffee shop (Compass) and gelato (near Giant.) Saw a few homeless people on the streets, nice neighbors; never felt unsafe. DC is an amazing city!

Very clean home. Great kitchen, plenty of room for larger groups. Perfect location if you need downtown.

Beautiful home...not an ideal location
The home is lovely, it’s appointed for a rental so you will feel like you are in a rental property. The configuration is 3 large bedrooms and one small room with a twin and trundle. It doesn’t sleep ten (not that we had ten) it sleeps 8 at most. Two bathrooms upstairs and a full downstairs. We used this home for a corporate retreat and found the location in DC a little less desirable than our other choices, beside a school and it was fairly loud on the front part of the house. The house was just as it appears in photos. I’m not sure if this is a VRBO requirement or an owner choice but I didn’t like that we had to pay in full a month before arrival. We would choose a more luxurious spot for our next retreat. Owner was responsive and nice prior, we didn’t need anything while we were on site.

Great family gathering place
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The townhouse was perfect for our family Thanksgiving gathering. There were six of us - 5 adults and 1 child. The space was perfect for us-lots of room, comfortable furnishings, well equipped kitchen, convenient to stores and restaurants and transportation. We will consider the space again the next time we come to D.C.

The place was awesome, very comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. It was very convenient for our group going to the convention center.
Allen was an excellent host and was immediately available for anything that came up
Would highly recommend

Worked great for our family event
We were joined by four of our adult kids for a family event in DC. This rental worked out great for us. Allen, the owner, was there when we arrived and gave us the tour. The beds were comfy, the kitchen well equipped, plenty of room for six adults. The neighborhood is transitional but definitely on the way up. We had zero problems. Shaw, the neighborhood it's in is home to some of the best new dining in DC and a short drive to the big DC attractions. Giant grocery store is a few blocks walk away.

close to National Mall but needs TLC
Good for families, close to all sightseeing. Needs better care. bedrm with twin bed has light controls in master bdrm. Floors in kitchen were sticky, area rugs need cleaning, towels felt like loofa pads, needs new bed pillows, WiFi kept turning off. Would not recommend being out in neighborhood after dark.

Nice Home
The house suited our family of 6 adults who were arriving from different parts of the world. The house is easy to find and close to public transport which we used for our week in DC. The house was clean and the kitchen was a great space, with plenty of room and a variety of cooking utensils & cookware to provide meals for the family.
We enjoyed our time in the house, it could be a little noisy because of sirens but that is part of being in the middle of a city and this didn't cause a problem with sleeping as the beds are comfortable and the curtains were very good at blocking out the light.

Would definitely stay there again
The house was in a neighborhood close to downtown DC, quiet as well. The house was clean and nicely decorated. Beautiful old home with great updates. Beds are very comfortable and bathrooms very roomy. Upstairs, 3 large bedrooms and 2 full baths; one smaller bedroom upstairs also. There was also a sleeper sofa on the first floor and another full bath on the first floor as well. The owner returned our phone calls promptly and was very helpful in what ever we needed.
My family enjoyed the house very much; it was cozy and we felt at home there. I would recommend this home over a bunch of hotel rooms any day!

Maybe Even Better Than Advertised
We couldn't imagine a better host than Allen. He's amiable, responsive and helpful. Stopped by on the day of our arrival to introduce himself and make sure everything was in order. The home is very spacious, clean, quiet, renovated and decorated nicely, and well appointed. Located in a safe, clean and friendly neighborhood, only a 5 minute walk to groceries, dining and coffee shops, 10 minutes to Logan Circle, 15 minutes to bustling 14th St. shops, restaurants, pubs and downtown D.C., and a 20 minute walk to the National Mall and monuments. If walking's not your thing, the bus stops on the corner, Metro stations are within blocks, and prompt, inexpensive Ubers abound. All in all, a very enjoyable stay, our expectations were met or exceeded, no complaints whatsoever. Allen will be our first call for lodging when planning future visits to D.C. A highly recommended host and property.
