About this cottage rental
Teskie's Cottage is a 1700 sq. foot home located at 970 Cottage Rd in Gills Rock.
Air-conditioned, picturesque and freshly updated, this appealing waterfront cottage has a front row seat to the amazing view over Green Bay (no access to the water), a large master bedroom downstairs, and four additional bedrooms upstairs. love the location and we where very pleased with the property. We only used the main floor it was just the two of us. We went up to Charlies up the street and ended up eating smoked Salmon instead of steaks for dinner its amazing.

Older cabin, exactly as it appears in the listing. No bathroom on the level with the bedrooms. One of the bedrooms could not be utilized due to a missing window - it was freezing in the room. Communication response regarding this issue was non-existent so we just made due. Cleaning could use a step-up, as there were dust mites under the beds (hard floors with easy access so not sure why these have been skipped). Location was ideal and sounds of waves was relaxing! Beds were comfortable.

If you want quiet and pretty water views this is the place. It’s clean and quaint. If you want luxury then this is not the place for you. Close to catch the ferries to Washington Island; a must place to visit.

If you are looking for a quiet get away - with an incredible view look no further. Comfortable home with a picturesque view of Hedgehog Harbor. Enjoy lakefront campfires and cookouts - walk to historic fishing village - a short drive to Sister Bay where you can shop - dine - putt putt golf - drive go carts and see the goats on the roof at Al Johnson’s Restaurant. Enjoy the best of both worlds. Quiet accommodations in Gills Rock on the lake - minutes to Sister Bay and all of Door County where there is a lot to do. Door County and this property will leave you with memories that will stay long after your vacation has ended.

Way up at the top of very top of the peninsula is this absolute steal of a rental in Gills Rock. Situated right on the bay, this is a quaint former fishing cottage. The stairs creak and there’s even a pellet fireplace. For the price (compared with most other rental units in Door County), this place cannot be beat. I don’t know what previous guests mean about the cleanliness — I thought it was perfectly clean. The views of the bay are incomparable. The neighborhood quiet. Take a ten minute walk into Gills Rock proper and have a seriously great meal at the Shoreline Restaurant, pick up some smoked salmon at Charlie’s, and hop on the passenger ferry to Washington Island. Bring some fishing gear and fish from the pier in Gills Rock. Back at the unit, have a fire, curl up by the TV, watch the stars, watch boats go in and out of the bay…really a magical place to get away. Don’t miss this one!

We stayed the entire week at the property and it was superb!!! Beautiful morning views with coffee and awesome evenings by the fire. Good quiet location to be before and after running all over door county. Would definitely recommend.

Our crews arrived to unmade beds, beers in the sink, bathroom garbage full, dog hairs on the bed and bedding. Didn’t look or smell clean.
0 out 10 for the cleaning. Everything else, was ok.

The proximity to Hedgehog Harbor was incredible! So much water fowl—gulls, terns, pelicans—action to watch!! Magnificent sunsets, even with the wildfire haze! Wonderful history of this house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would like to return. :)

Check in was a bit dicey. Upon arrival, we found it had not been cleaned and certain expecrations not met (key on table, WIFI not present, side storm door was open, coffee table was flipped upside down on couch, used towel in bathroom, etc). A quick phone call to manager was well received. She was very apologetic and quickly offered to make things right. The nex day, housekeepers were in and cleaned and took care of issues. Remainder of stay was quite confortable and acceptable.

Got to meet Lyle who grew up in this house and gave us a sense of the family history. He by the way, was very quick to answer our call for fireplace pellets.
The house could use some upkeep and exterior clean up but was comfortable and cozy. Loved having the grill and more importantly, the firepit outside allowed a view of the star filled night sky. Amazingly, blissfully quiet and peaceful.
A wonderful get away.

We stayed here for a couple nights! All was well. It’s like a fishing cottage- great views, relaxing, out of the way, no frills.

Retro, mostly clean, quiet, place to stay. Had all the essentials to make a stay relaxing. Had lots of room but only one bathroom. Since we were not in a hurry that was no big deal. Nice water view and saw lots of wildlife. The squirrels were the most entertaining! We had beautiful weather, it would have been nice to be able to open up the windows and let the fresh air in. The window were either full of cobwebs and spiders or the windows did not open. They did have all the air conditioning that you need though! The beds were super comfortable and nice bedding! The stairs were a little creaky but that played into the old charm of the place. We locked ourselves out of the house by accident and they returned our call and sent someone to open the door! We learned the area is very safe and no need to lock doors but we all came from big cities and have a habit of locking doors. We played games they provided one night and had fun. Did not have good cell reception but we were trying to get away from technology, so that’s was good. The one thing that was missing in the kitchen was wine glasses, but did have a wine opener. Looks like they are slowly updating some of the things in the house. Everything was in good working order! The only regret was not making a fire out back.

Very rustic place could use some updating. A really peaceful neighborhood when the neighbor isnt driving his truck right by your windows and everyone leaves after holiday . We loved the view of lake michgan siting in the glider and chairs outside. Coffee in the morning was awesome and our two dogs enjoyed themselves too when thay could be out after everyone next door were gone tho looks like you aren't letting people bring the dogs anymore good luck with that !!!there is still rentals that allow. The house was cozy comfy once we settled in for the week. I must say it would have been nice to have wifi to actually watch our shows at night thank goodness for utube TV to get through the week. all and all it was a beautiful stay and we did get to do all the stuff we love and go to all the stores to shop . we love door county and come every year and still will. Thank You for letting us stay in your historic lodge home. m.

Quaint old fishing cottage that had everything we needed: view, amenities and QUIET! We were there for relaxation & this property is perfect for that. Cute shops nearby, water ferry too for trip to Washington Island. Found 3 area parks nearby to visit & they all had spectacular views of Lake Michigan: Port des Morts, Isle View & Liberty Grove.

Iconic old cabin
This property has the location for a serenity spot on the lake. Sunsets were awesome. Plenty of area to sit out side and just absorb the surroundings. Cabin is older, but clean. Has the basics for a comfortable stay. Views were spectacular.

Lovely property - great access to fun winter activities.
Our first night was cold due to an apparent miscommunication, but once things were smoothed out it was a great place to stay. The manager was responsive and helpful when we were able to connect. We would certainly go again! A fall trip is on our minds.
One important tip: there's very very spotty cell service and few cell providers whose service is consistent, especially this far out. Without WiFi it's hard to communicate/clarify plans, and in the off season the options for businesses with open WiFi are fewer. We'll manage our plans differently next trip.

Good Spot
We enjoyed staying at this house. It truly is a “no frills” place but it’s very well kept and has a cool old vibe to it. The house is a good size and there’s a lot of space to move around on the main floor. There’s no wifi and only about 6 TV channels so bring the board games! We would stay here again especially in the summer.

A clean and peaceful no frills fishing cottage. Beautiful view!
It was very peaceful and quiet. Just what we needed to recharge and get away.
Thank you so much for sharing this little gem!

Underwhelming
Place smelled of cigarettes, bathroom, kitchen and floor was dirty. Found garbage under beds, no clean coffee cups. Spent time cleaning and purchased candles to try and eliminate smell. Property manager visited and did nothing.

Nice location with a water view.
Even though this is a no-frills cabin that is in need of some maintenance, it does offer a great view of the lake with a firepit and wood provided. We really enjoyed sitting by the fire and watching the beautiful sunset. Our dog had a great time too!

Great communication, friendly, accommodating. I can't say enough good things about the people involved with this property. The cottage was just perfect for a family getaway and we had a great time.

Lovely stay by the Bay
This place has huge potential and could easily be a five star accommodation. The view is tremendous, with splendid Lake Michigan vistas. There is a lovely backyard with a great fire pit and plenty of open space for the kids to run and play. There is NO LAKE ACCESS from this property, which seems strange since the property directly abuts the breakwater. However, the property line ends with the lawn and there is no access to the lake at all. This does not take anything away from the property though. It is a lovely and idyllic lakeside retreat.
The house is definitely older, but it has great character and is spacious and airy on the ground floor. The upstairs bedrooms are a little cramped, but fine for sleeping. There is no central air conditioning, but the owner has provided window A/C units in almost every room so comfort is not an issue. The main bedroom on the ground floor is the most spacious and comfortable. The furniture is a little dated, but fine. The lack of a second bathroom can be a little problematic if there is a large group sharing (there were seven of us and we managed, but there were waits). The creaky old staircase is steep, so those with mobility issues should stay down. There is no Wi-Fi here and cellular reception was very spotty so those who need to be online may find that frustrating.
The owner has dealt with many of the issues brought up by previous reviewers, so they seem to be embracing an attitude of continuous improvement. There was a lack of cutlery and we ran out of forks and spoons often. There is a beautiful gas grill in the back, but no grilling tools could be found other than a pair of flimsy tongs, so we improvised. Also, we wanted to load and run the dishwasher, but could not find the detergent! We ended up handwashing everything but there was a lack of dishtowels. Finally, the side door was very difficult to close due to a faulty latch. There is nothing here that was so bad it warrants harsh criticism, just some minor attention to detail would improve the guest experience significantly.
The property manager was responsive, friendly, and very helpful. We enjoyed our time here and would come back. Sure, there is room for a little improvement, but the location and beauty of this spot more than makes up for the very minor inconveniences we encountered.
My final advice to the owners would to put together a little binder will all the instructions and expectations for guests.

Old Fashioned Quaint Fisherman house
My family and our friends choose a private cabin in WI every year. We've been doing this for 7 years now. This cabin has the old feel as stated in the property description. But it's simply perfect for a stay when you just want to relax. I would suggest the owner leave a information check in/check out sheet for us. There was no obvious info. Also some board games would be nice. Otherwise it was perfect. And we experienced some friendly ghosts.

Great location
Knowing we were staying in an original fishing lodge that has stayed in the family for four generations was special enough. Across the bay was a commercial fishing business where we could watch the seagulls following tugs come in every morning with their haul of fish. We went there and was able to purchase as much whitefish as we wished. It was very interesting to watch their speedy processing of the fish.
The family that owned the cottage we stayed in were most accommodating and friendly.
I would recommend that they update the bedroom on the main floor. The bed and bedding need to be replaced.

Not fancy BUT perfect
First the owners are very responsive when you need to get in touch with them. We had a fire alarm needing a new battery and it was replaced that same day. We also needed more firewood and they brought it the very next day. The home had everything needed, towels, shampoo (if you forgot yours) the kitchen had everything anyone would need for your stay! We will hopefully come back again someday!!!! :-)

House could have been cleaner
There was one chair in the downstairs bedroom that was completely covered in white pet hair. It was quite gross. The gentleman cleaning was very friendly and very accommodating. All said and done, I am not saying that I would not stay there again.
