Like hiring a 5-star hotel for ourselves, fantastic from start to finish, nothing to fault, great value for money.
2.0 / 5.0
The property was falsely listed as having a bedroom with a king bed, queen bed and sofa bed in one bedroom – this led us to believe we could house all our family members with no issues. Upon arrival the room was not as described and had only a king bed and sofa bed which caused an unexpected inconvenience for sleeping arrangements.
Other rented areas of the house were not mentioned on the rental information and we were surprised to discover that we shared the building with other tenants.
The rental listing was listed as having a washer and dryer – we discovered that there was no dryer which caused much more laundry issues than we planned for on our vacation.
There were surveillance cameras in the common areas of the house that felt intrusive and creepy. The living room had a pervasive odor of cigarette smoke.
In addition, everyone who used the hot tub developed a rash caused by a bacteria (“hot tub rash”) due to poor chemical balance. The information about the rash and possible chemical issue was provided as a courtesy to the owner upon our departure, who claimed it wasn’t an issue.
These multiple inconveniences were something we were willing to deal with at the time as we were trying to enjoy Bute and our family vacation. However, considering the price that we paid for this house, these were legitimate issues that made this not the ideal vacation home we were promised.
Several days after leaving, the owner sent a picture of a small, light stain on an unknown piece of furniture, which was difficult to identify from the picture. Before leaving the residence, we reviewed every room in the rental and did not notice any such issues. It is unknown where or when this stain occurred and the owners have not provided any proof that it was not already there or that we caused this. We offered to pay a modest cleaning fee but the owners have insisted that all the couch cushions need to be replaced for a total of £880, which is honestly outrageous and we have disputed with VRBO.
We wish we stayed somewhere else as Bute is lovely.

Due to the Covid pandemic, our vacation to this delightful spot has been delayed but the owners have been wonderful to work with and so helpful in rescheduling our visit for next year. The manor house looks beautiful and we can hardly wait to meet the owners when we finally fulfill our travel plans in 2022.

We stayed at Chandler's and found it to be large, comfortable and ideally situated. We were in a party of 17 and the house never once felt small.
The deck area was a nice place to sit and relax in the evening. It has a fantastic view out over the sea and to the peninsula.
The house itself is very close to Mount Stuart which is definitely worth a visit. It's also a short walk or bus journey from the town which is really handy. Buses are pretty regular if you don't have a car with you. We went to a place called Harry Haw's for dinner and the service and food were excellent.
The hosts at Chandler's were very helpful and made it easy for us to enjoy our stay.
Would definitely stay again.

Terrace was not safe for small children and hadn't realised there was no garden( my fault). However the house worked well for us. A larger fridge would be good for large groups.
