Our yearly visit to St. John was peaceful and pleasant. In This was our first stay on the East End and it was great. Communication from all parties involved prior, during and post stay were appreciated, especially during the storms and power outages. The house was fully supplied with all amenities listed, a pool with a view- just WOW!
Thank you Ken for opening up your home to us and making it feel like home. It was truly appreciated!

Humble but beautiful house in a gorgeous quiet part of St John. Pool was perfect after a long day of hiking, beaching, snorkeling. Gorgeous views from decks and pool. Kitchen was fine, grill was useful. Great wifi and entertainment systems throughout. The roads to the house are in pretty good condition but the terrain requires a Jeep or other capable vehicle. A sedan wouldn't make it or would be likely to be damaged if it did. Hansen Bay Beach is right there and is great. Salt Pond Bay Beach a little further (25 minutes) but unbelievably beautiful with great snorkeling, turtles everywhere. Annaberg Plantation, Watermelon Cay also amazing and 20 minutes away. Trunk Bay, Maho Bay 30-45 minutes away and more touristed but for good reason. Pretty good, casual dining at Skinny Legs and a few other spots in Coral Bay 15 minutes from the house. Groceries are expensive and limited on the island. Good idea to stock up in Red Hook if coming via car ferry (still expensive but much better selection).

Absolutely amazing. Very comfortable. We had everything we wanted and needed. When electricity went out we still had the grill to cook on. Pool was warm and enjoyable. Beach close walk down up hill back, but good.we definitely want to come back.

Returning to Long Bay Getaway felt a lot like coming home. The villa was exceptional and late afternoons & evenings were spent in the pool, by the grill or eating dinner & strumming guitar on the deck. Days were filled with fun in the east end bays and visits to Coral Bay. We ate a few meals out but mostly at the Villa and had everything we needed. Can’t wait to return next year! Thanks to Ken & his family and Jeremy for wonderful, relaxing vacation!

This was one of our favorite stays. We travel all over to see National Parks and we stay at VRBO's.
We love the East End of St. John Island, more secluded and peaceful.
The house is 2 stories with stairs to the front door and stairs down to the 2 bedrooms. Cooked fresh fish on the grill (brought my own grill mat) and the kitchen had anything you needed to cook with.
The pool was excellent! I brought a swimming resistant band and did my laps every day.
The private neighborhood beach was great for snorkeling. It was a shallow bay so the fish were small and colorful. Like a fish aquarium or fish nursery. Loved it!

My family and I enjoyed our stay at St. John. Winding through roads with our Jeep was truly an adventure! Who needs rollercoasters (haha). Snorkeling, hiking, beach time, and enjoying nature was time well spent. After a day of these adventure, my children enjoyed pool time each evening and meals with a fabulous view!!! We didn't use the air conditioning because the house has such wonderful window ventilation that a cool breeze combined with ceiling fans made sleeping comfortable.
With sounds of nature all around (mostly goats), our stay was fabulous.

We absolutely loved our stay at Long Bay Getaway! It is a great location, away from it all yet close enough to Coral Bay to head there for dinner and the North Shore beaches or Salt Pond for the day. It was a fun drive to the place and we were glad to have a jeep. We loved the pool and enjoyed every evening swimming until the sun went down. It was a very comfortable temperature! The kitchen was well equipped and the grill worked for dinners. The bedrooms cooled down well with a combination of fans and ac and the beds were comfortable. We also really enjoyed snorkeling at Long Bay and spent some time there. Thanks for sharing your place with us!

Our family of four including two kiddos had the most amazing stay at the Long Bay Getaway. This was our third time visiting the island and our first time staying on the East end. The sunsets, rainbows over the bay, private beach with snorkeling, quiet and serenity, wildlife on the property including birds, lizards, and iguanas, beautiful private pool all to ourselves, as well as the house and all of its amenities and comforts (everything we needed including speedy internet and fully stocked kitchen) far exceeded our expectations. It was like we stepped into a home as we all felt comfortable and relaxed at the house. The frog chorus at night time and the bird chorus in the mornings were delightful. The house is clean, comfortable, quiet, secluded, safe, and secure. The property manager was amazing and made contact with us before the trip and was there to help with the drop of a text. This house is a nature retreat and was just what our family needed. Expect to reset if you stay at this house as its comfort and beauty inside and out are beyond words. We are so grateful to have been able to stay at this amazing retreat on St John.

My husband and I came to St. John to enjoy our honeymoon. After 10 years of marriage we finally had the opportunity. This bungalow was perfect. Our goal was to have seclusion. We didn’t want the typical resort or condo. The Longbay Getaway checked ever box. We were in our own little world it felt like. The views were amazing and perfect for morning coffee and just having down time. The pool was clean and a great way to relax after snorkeling at the beaches. Also the outdoor shower…. Amazing! The beach chairs and coolers were great to have so you don’t have to pack anything extra to bring. We were sure so we did pack a soft cooler to bring and never used it. The open air style here was probably my favorite aspect of the property. It is a bit of a drive from Cruz Bay but it was really worth it to be away from everyone. Thank you for the hospitality.

Very remote place. The sound of the4 ocean over the shells at night was amazing. This was one of the better stocked places i have rented. Very much appreciated that!

Enjoyed our stay, we just Love St John and have been there many times. Staying on the East End although is a ride to get places is just the quiet and peacefulness we enjoy. The pool is Very nice and we used it often in the evenings watching the sunset and getting away from the bugs ( with all the rain the bugs were horrible and made it impossible to sit outside, so the pool was great ). This home was well stocked with necessities and made it quite nice to fill in what we needed. It's stated in the description but I missed it... the kitchen only has two mini fridges that was a major problem for us to keep ice and other items in them.

The east end of the Island is beautiful and the house is in the perfect location. The pool with the view over the bay is wonderful and the stars at night are amazing. The home itself is great, very nice open air concept with good breeze from being up on the hill. The bedrooms also still have AC for sleeping which we really liked. After snorkeling or spending the day on the beach, this is the perfect place to come back to and cook dinner or just float in the pool and watch the sunset. The host is awesome and made us feel very taken care of. Overall highly recommended!

This home was exactly what we were looking for. We didn’t want to be in the busy area of St. John and we are glad we found it. It can seem like it’s far but as you get used to driving in the island you’ll soon realize it’s not. We enjoyed the private beach and wish we’d pack beach shoes (you may see sea urchins) as it was excellent for snorkeling and of course relaxing. We enjoyed our evenings on the balcony and pool seeing the sunsets, after hiking trails. We look forward to coming back in the future.

Great spot for a week at the East End. Just right for two- private and quiet with a great view. A steady breeze kept us cool every night- Even in July we only had the AC going for a few hours. The community beach area was like having our own private waterfront. Great snorkeling.

Most beautiful views!!! On the East Side of the island away from (most) everyone! Which I loved!

We loved the quietness of the location and the pool to relax in. At first we were worried about the challenging drive but then we got used to it and wasn’t a big deal.

This property has the potential of being a nice place to stay. The views from the upper deck were amazing and the plunge pool was really nice after a day of snorkeling! However, the cons outweighed the pros.
The property was in disrepair with missing windows and doors replaced with screens, broken tiles on the deck and pool coping, and large gaps under existing doors for pests to enter. Pests included millipedes, lizards, mosquitos, tiny insects on sofas, and a large toad in the bedroom. In the one room with air conditioning, the split unit AC was extremely noisy and constantly leaked all over the bed and floor.
The place did not feel clean or safe. We were isolated and unsecured. On two separate mornings at dawn, groups of 12 and 19 people dressed in black with backpacks walked past the driveway entrance asking for directions to Coral Bay. We felt vulnerable!
We have camped in many locations in the U.S. and Canada and have visited the East End of St. John on several vacations. We would prefer any of these trips to the two weeks at this home. Maybe some of the rental money could be used for repairs, cleaning, landscaping, and securing the residence. With some investment, this could be a great place!

What an amazing house & bay and the people in the privateer bay community (and coral bay & east end) were super nice and welcoming. The house was extremely clean & comfortable and we cooked all our meals there for 9 days. As with any tropical location there are lizards, bugs and other natural wonders, we had absolutely no issues whatsoever. There were no bugs or unsanitary issues in the house, but we were not looking for nor expecting the westin. Cooling off in the pool after snorkeling each day was wonderful. Did I mention how awesome the snorkeling was right there in long bay and on the east end? What a blast. Playing guitar on the deck and having a rum pina at sunset as boats sailed in to anchor for the night seemed like a dream. We cannot wait to come back and are grateful that this house and the local area were shared with us. Thank you!!!!!!

This property is definitely for those individuals that are very in tune with nature. An extreme glorified camping experience for sure! The kitchen was not cleaned very well at all - to the point that we did not cook the entire week we were there. There were ants everywhere, mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers, lots of lizard droppings as well. We even found a dead lizard in between the sheets of the bed. Sadly, there were also roaches as well. We made the best of the bad situation, but it really sucks when you've saved up for a nice vacation and then have to deal with a subpar rental. The house really does have a lot of potential but is in extreme dyer need of much TLC.

This property was the perfect place to getaway. The house is in a great location with amazing views. The surrounding beaches were great for snorkeling and the locals were friendly and welcoming to my family. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and look forward to coming back in the future.

The property was in need of some repairs. The view is gorgeous. Mosquitoes, cockroaches and ants in the house were the unwelcome guests. The goats, deer and donkeys were a joy

Our second visit to the property was just as wonderful as our trip two years ago. It does take some driving on the winding roads to reach the East End, but we love getting away for a peaceful vacation. The house has a huge, wonderful porch, fully equipped kitchen, nice living room, bathrooms, comfortable beds, outdoor shower and a pool! We enjoy kayaking and snorkeling around Pelican Rock from the neighborhood beach.

WOW spectacular views. We could just sit on the upstairs balcony or hang out in the pool all day and just enjoy the beautiful setting. We loved how peaceful this part of the island was. We usually stay in Cruz bay and this was a nice change of pace. Lots of goats and donkeys in the neighborhood which for us was a plus. They are just so cute! Sure it’s a bit remote, but that added to the experience. We felt like adventurers, exploring the wild untamed areas of the island. Lol. We would stay here again.

Long Beach getaway is definitely a getaway. It is quiet, peaceful, and the views are magnificent!. It takes a good additional 20 minutes on a rough road to get anywhere on the west half of the island- the cost of the serenity.
The property was as expected for open air cottage. The lower level main bedroom could use a bit more protection from the blowing rain, but other than that we did not have any major complaints. You must consider our prior experience on STJ having operated out the Westin.
One other thing is Long Beach. Not a comfortable beach, but snorkeling out to Pelican Rock and then toward the two pay beaches to the right was some of the best of this trip.
We cooked up a storm in the cottage, generally breakfast and dinner. Cottage had all we needed for prepping and cooking. No dishwasher, but not really not needed.
Good and timely communication with the property owner.
We might stay again if the price is right, but I think next trip will have to be more toward Cruz Bay.

The property is in a quiet location. The private beach is nice - the snorkeling is fair, and it's great to be the only people there. The view of the ocean from the lanai is gorgeous. The sunsets can be spectacular.
The master bedroom is inside a screen porch. The breezes feel great coming through in the evening.
The plunge pool is a great addition to the home, and we used it every day.
We appreciated the home manager helping us with a couple of things when we got there. He responded right away. Thanks, Jeremy!
A couple of things didn't work as well for us, hence the 4 rating.
1. Construction is heavy at this time in the area, and that was very noisy - all day. There isn't anything the homeowner can do about this though. Just know that almost anywhere you go in the USVI right now, there's construction.
2. The private beach is very rocky, not sandy. If you want a sandy beach, go to Maho.
3. There are lots of ants and mosquitos. The screens in the master bedroom have a couple of little holes so mosquitos and ants can get in. We live in Texas, so we're familiar with ants, and they aren't generally a problem for us. We draw the line at finding ants in the bed with us in the morning, though.
4. The tile around the pool needs repair. It is jagged and cracked at the steps.
5. The 'refrigerator' is two small, under-counter fridges with a top shelf standing in for a freezer. Thick ice on the freezer shelf made it difficult to store freezer items.
Even with these items, we've rated the place a '4' because of its beauty.

This house is a hidden gem. Our stay was wonderful in this quiet, relaxing side of St. John. The best snorkeling on the island was right off the beach down from the house, saw every kind of fish, and turtles. Hummingbirds and hawks are frequent sites of the decks too. Also loved the nightly sunsets and the huge star filled sky. Hope to return someday!

We absolutely loved our time at Estate Hansen Bay! It was a wonderful place to escape from the world for a few days. We’ve stayed at a few VRBOs in the Caribbean and it always feels like a bit of a detective game to figure out what the place will be like from the photos. In this case, the photos undersold how wonderful this place is. The main (uppermost) floor is a large room with the open kitchen and living room. It has beautiful exposed stone wall on one side and a vaulted ceiling. It is surrounded by a shaded deck—we loved sipping cocktails looking out at the bay and then eating our dinner outside. The next floor down has two bedrooms, each with its own bath. The master bedroom at the front of the house is surrounded by a fully screened in deck and then a layer curtains. It was magical. We fell asleep to the breeze and then woke to the sound of dove duets. This level also has the private pool—an amazing place to get some sun or stargaze at night.
The private beach was easy to walk to and there were a number of other options within a 5 min drive (including Haulover South which had the best conditions during our stay). We ended up falling in love with Leinster Bay/Waterlemon Cay (30 min drive) and settled into spending our mornings there and the afternoons at one of the nearby beaches.

This house was everything we expected! The pool is fabulous the house was beautiful and comfortable The views were breathtaking! Having access to the private beach and it being right at pelican Rock made it the greatest place we have ever stayed. When we return we want to rent this exact house again!
8.0 / 10.0
We had a wonderful stay. As said in other reviews the property is pretty far out of town. We enjoyed the remoteness of the location, but could see where it would be difficult for some. The views are stunning and the home is beautiful. Most of the home is open air and not necessarily mosquito proof. Communication was good and check-in was really easy. The recommendation book in the house was a big help.
8.0 / 10.0
Magical spot—the pool and the view can’t be beat. A bit of a hike beyond Coral Bay to get there, but it’s worth it. Thanks for a great stay!

Things that matched our expectations included the gorgeous view of the bay, fantastic sunsets and rainbows, lovely pool, comfortable space for 2 couples, and prompt responses and from Jeremy, property manager. Disappointments that resulted in the 4 star instead of 5 review include things that were not within the control of the owner but still dampened our experience. One was that there was construction going on nearby. We chose East End for its advertised remoteness and quiet . It was interrupted by constant pile driving some days and roaring of dump trucks going up and down the mountain other days Monday through Friday. The noise level was so high several days that we could not carry on conversation within the villa. Another factor that seemed minimized in the information provided was the difficulty of the ride from Coral Bay. The roads are rough with many potholes and difficult to manage, even in a Jeep. The price of groceries was also shocking. Combination of remote island and inflation. Again, no one’s fault, just needs to be noted with a bit more emphasis for those planning for a week’s stay.
10.0 / 10.0
We thoroughly enjoyed the house, the view was amazing. There were a few surprises including two scorpions, a tarantula and a lizard that got into the house. Overall those things just added to the fun and we had a great time. The master bedroom was a bit more open air than expected and we weren’t really feeling secure the first night but we would stay again. Beautiful location— a bit of a drive to the popular beaches though. Manager was very accommodating and easy to work with.
10.0 / 10.0
Perfect place for someone that’s wanting to get away from it all. Loved the seclusion this house offered. Spend the days on the breath taking beaches and the nights in the private pool. Highly recommend.
