What—Never heard of Pass-A-Grille Beach? Well, then, before we tell you about our house we’ll have to educate you about the first beach community on the Gulf of Mexico to be developed as a weekend get-away location for successful Tampa and Saint Petersburg residents.
The area is a small spit of land merely 31 blocks long and one block wide at the south end of St. Petersburg Beach, starting just south of the historic Don Cesar Hotel. Pass-A-Grille got its name from Cuban fishermen, called “Grillers,” who would camp on the island to smoke their catch of fish before heading home. As you traveled through the pass you could see their fires, hence the name Pass-A-Grille.
Pass-A-Grille is NOT your typical Florida “beachy” beach town with hotels, motels, swimsuit stores and fast food stores wall-to-wall, If you are looking for this, you’ll have to go further north, past the Don Cesar. Pass-A-Grille is more sedate with a convenient grocery, quaint shops, inviting bars and restaurants, and a more relaxed style. And, everything is within easy walking distance, because the blocks are short.
22 blocks of beachfront and walkway a few steps to a nearby dune walkover. Once you cross the dune you’ll be presented with a wide, sandy beach stretching in both directions. It's like having your own private beach. There are never big crowds. A locals secret.
You’ll find some good bars, restaurants, and ice cream shops on this (the west) side. The Hurricane Restaurant is one of the most popular places, and you’ll get a great view while sipping a drink at the third-floor bar. By the way, there are no high-rise hotels on Pass-A-Grille—there are a couple of 7-story condos, but that’s it—
Or, walk one block to the other (east) side of the island, where you can dip a line in the water, arrange a fishing charter or scenic cruise, or merely stroll along the marine sites to some rather excellent restaurants. Less than an hour from the many attractions in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Our house is 2 blocks from the southern end of the island, and as close to “on the beach” as you can get. To the west there is the Gulf of Mexico, the beach, the street, and our house.
Pass a grille is a very easy town to navigate. There are two main roads. One on the Gulf and the other on the inter coastal water way. There is a trolly system that will take you to many parts of St Pete. You don’t need a car if you don’t want one
You don't really need a car in Pass a Grille. The free beach ride provides a local shuttle service from St Pete Beach to Clearwater Beach. Just tip them.
We provide 1 parking pass
Please clean dishes.
Empty refrigerator
Take out the trash
All dirty linens in the laundry room if you are able to
Put away beach chairs and toys
Clean grille if used
Absolutely no sub-leasing allowed- immediate eviction
No more than 6 sleeping at property -same as above

Beautiful and clean home right next to the beach. It was very easy to be comfortable here with a well stocked kitchen, and beautiful patio with a charcoal grill. Private bathrooms was a plus with a teenage girl. As well as being able to wash a load or two of laundry in the washer/dryer. We loved all the unique wildlife in the area. Sunsets were amazing. Thank you Katie.

We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay in this charming house right across from the Gulf of Mexico. Watching the sunset from the deck and/or the living/dining room was amazing. Several family members visited during the month and they loved it.

What a wonderful little vacation spot! Cottage was a exactly as I had expected from owners description. Great beach for those who can't walk long distances in loose sand, just enough beach! Easy walking distance to good restaurants and shops. Short drive (or free shuttle) to major beach shops and grocery. Enjoyed every sunset!!

Relaxing Casual Beach Get Away
Stayed week of Christmas 2021.
Well stocked house - very pretty view for nightly sunsets and an enjoyable and comfortable stay! Bed and pillows very comfortable which is rare. Owner helped bring in a few items we ordered in advance bottles water etc. which was really helpful.
Beach has a lot of broken shells so shoes are needed, not much depth to beach but nice and a good distance for walking - I walked to the Don Cesar hotel on the beach several times. If you’re looking for that powder white sand this is not the area - which is interesting since both north and south you can find them but it may be all the shells and their color.
A house is just starting to be built an arms length from this one, so might want to check on that as they started construction very early in the morning the first half of our trip and then they stopped starting Christmas Day. (Owner had no idea they would be starting work so no fault there). So we did go an hour south and stayed one night at the Ritz in Sarasota, for a change and to sleep in. Also there lots of boutique shopping and nicer restaurants in St Armand’s Circle so it was a nice compliment to being “away from it all.”
Only one nicer restaurant in PAG (Grace) a few blocks away (are there twice). So that’s something to note if you like fine dining as it’s mostly flip flop style places/bar food in PAG. So you’ll need to drive. All the people we met were really nice around the area, and there’s a few cute stores on 8th St which is where Grace is, and seemed to be the little stores in the area are as well. Highly recommend local place, Shaner’s market, it is a couple minute car ride or a 15-20 minute walk away - groceries, meat and seafood market, deli with (boar’s head) and basics. No need to cook breakfast and have to clean up as they make great breakfast sandwiches that are excellent quality and very inexpensive. Have fun!

Paradise in Pass-A-Grille
Katie and her team made us feel amazingly welcome and even bumped into her during our stay. The house matched the pictures and was super clean and well equipped for our week. The beach across the street is filled with shells and sand dollars and was great for swimming and sun bathing. Had I not been too shy and looked in the beach closet much earlier, I might have found the mask and snorkel she has for use (it is in a pouch) by the house occupants and could have come home with some fancy shells.
Tricia, Amy, and I really enjoyed watching the sunset from the patio with some adult beverages and small talk.....we had an amazing time. If your week is open, I would highly recommend this beautiful home.
Thank you Katie!

Wonderful Location
The location is wonderful, and both the house and cottage are clean, well appointed, and cozy. Katie makes it easy and stays in touch with you throughout the process. We had both the house and the upstairs cottage for the week for 7 people ranging from 68 to 6 years old. Has all you need for the beach and for relaxing when you get back from the beach. We hope to be back many more times!

Best Location in PAG!
The house couldn’t have been any more perfect for us! It was literally steps from the beach and walking distance to everything! All great spots to eat and drink, not to mention the best ice cream and “pasacino’s”. Katie was amazing and easy to communicate with every step of the way! She genuinely wanted us to have the best time and we really appreciated that! We will be sure to rent there again!

It's perfect.
I don't really want to tell everyone how wonderful this property is because we want to keep it to ourselves. But do yourself a favor, spend the money, it's worth it. EVERYTHING is thought of. Plenty of towels, cookware, beach equipment. Attention to detail. It's really a keeper.

Home away from home
We are currently living in Tampa and wanted to spend more time in Pass a Grille than just a day trip. Katie and Terry have a beautiful, comfortable home that is in the best location! We were able to cross the street to the beach or walk 6 blocks to 'town'. The house has a great open floorplan with two large bedrooms, each with their own bath. The deck outside is just as pictured with comfortable furniture and charcoal grill. Katie and Terry are so adorable and friendly, attentive, and the house is spotless. It also has everything you need with technology, linens, beach chairs/umbrella, and fully stocked kitchen. We hope to be back in the near future!

The home's beachfront location offers a view that is simply amazing at any time of day, but especially at sunset. We can't wait for our next visit to Pass a Grille at this property!

A Great Time
Windswept beach house located near the tip of the peninsula was amazing for its views and proximity to the Gulf. The layout was perfect for our small family gathering and everything we needed was provided by the host. One of our favorite spots in the house was looking out toward the Gulf from the sun-strewn living room through 4 large glass sliders The warm sunny days spent on the shoreline in search of shells or wading in the calm aquamarine waters were the best. Watching an occasional manatee or dolphin swimming just a short distance from shore was definitely a highlight. The balmy weather and breezes, the white sands and azure skies, and the aquamarine water are what’s included with Windswept and we have already booked for next year. Thanks Katie!

Fantastic location, and and Katie is the Hostess with the mostest!
You have the tranquility of Pass-a Grille but if you want to get into the beach party fray ( and I suggest you do) just head a few miles north and get into anyone of dozens of places on the beach. Cant wait til next year!

Much needed vacation
We had a wonderful time. Beautiful place and Ms. Katie was a pleasure to work with. Everything was ready for us when we arrived. I am a planner(husband says I ALWAYS bring to much stuff) I packed beach chairs, beach umbrella, towels and laundry and cleaning supplies. Which was provided by Katie. ( As much as it pains me to admit he was right this 1 time. Lol)
We will definitely visit again. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us.
