About this house rental
This home is called the Tucson Gateway because when you walk out the front door you’re on the threshold of the best Tucson has to offer. Finding our newest vacation home was challenging because we began the search with the end in mind. With our other vacation homes we discovered that our guests want more of what makes life great. The perfect vacation home needed to offer more of what Tucson visitors really want:
- More outdoor living spaces
to bask in Tucson’s warm climate. Tucson boasts the most number of sunny days a year in America and guests want to take full advantage of all that sunshine.
The Tucson Gateway offers a pebble tec pool with available gas heat surrounded by natural stones and boulders for a refreshing dip even during the coldest months of the year when you’re neighbors back home are wearing parkas.
Take in spectacular sunsets, mountain views, and twinkling city night lights all from the bubbling warmth of an oversized spa. Enjoy gracious outdoor living in any 1 of 5 patio areas each with intimate seating areas situated all around the home. Read a favorite book while lounging in the sun or relax in each other’s company under starry nights around a crackling fire pit.
in a natural setting
One of the many things guests love about Tucson besides the climate are the natural spaces and wildlife. The day we received the keys for this new home I happened to glance out a bedroom window as I was locking windows and doors to notice a deer fawn curled up next to the a/c unit with Mom watching from her lay spot on the other side of the driveway.
The acre of natural desert surrounding the home increases privacy and acts as a noise buffer leaving you in solitude although there’s still the comfort of neighboring homes nearby and even better some of the best dining and shopping that Tucson has to offer within walking distance.
- To be even closer
to restaurants...
Because an important part of living well is eating well. From the Tucson Gateway you can walk to some of Tucson’s finest restaurants like Vivace’s or Fleming’s and wave at the valet as you’re greeted by the maitre d’ for your reservation.
Prefer more casual dining within walking distance?
Tucson’s Mexican food is legendary, we invented the chimichanga after all, and Blanco Tacos and Tequila can inspire some lively meals. Maybe wood fired salmon at Firebirds or another surf/turf meal is more to your taste in their casual yet upscale lodge atmosphere.
Check out Ra’s Sushi Bar for creative rolls or maybe take home a white pizza from Humble Pies. For conscious dining with emphasis on fresh, sustainable ingredients walk on over to Goodness.
Just want a nice place to have a drink?
Then stroll over to The Living Room. It's a great neighborhood hang out with cozy indoor spaces as well as soft seating in open air spaces to stretch out in with tasty lounge food.
Whatever you choose, any meal can be made better with a Gelato from Frost’s. On your walk home make sure to stop by this Gelateria that imports their ingredients all the way from Italy.
There are many more delicious dining options available you can walk to we just don’t have enough space here to tell you about them all so check out the dining guide in the kitchen for a more comprehensive list. Besides as comfortable as this home is, you might prefer take out or delivery that beats any hotel room service in town in both quality and value.
to grocery stores...
For the stay at home cooks you’re within walking distance of AJ’s Fine Foods a boutique grocery store offering gourmet foods and talented chefs in their bistro, sushi bar, bakery, and grill. Chat with the wine staff about the perfect pairing for that Southwestern dish you’re planning.
Looking for something a little more familiar? Whole Foods as well as Trader Joes both of which are national grocery chains offering the finest natural and organic foods available are within 2 miles.
to shopping...
Nearby La Encantada, an outdoor shopping center, brings luxury to within walking distance. Don’t be surprised if you keep coming back to shop at Tiffany’s, Louis Vuitton, Coach, or Williams-Sonoma.
So grab a free sample of fresh brewed tea from Teavana or fresh roasted, organic coffee from Savaya’s and indulge yourself in some much deserved shopping. For the fun lovers there’s an Apple Store, game store, and toy store.
to great places to visit…
Spend a whole day touring several of Tucson’s favorite art galleries just a leisurely walk from the home. Stop by Shlomo’s New York Style Deli for a quick bite before continuing your exploration of Tucson’s art culture.
- More ensuite bedrooms
With 2 master bedrooms similarly furnished to choose from, quarrels about who gets the best room can be avoided because now you’ll all have the best room.
Spiced with old Spanish romance each room features windows with expansive views, distinctive beehive fireplaces characteristic of the Southwest, sitting areas and flat screen tv’s for lazy days when you don’t want to get out of bed. Someone else visiting with you? There’s yet another bedroom with it’s own bath for privacy lovers or bring more guests and share the 3rd bath with the 4th bedroom occupants.
- As Always
This home features interior spaces designed with an emphasis on comfort. Since comfort is such a subjective quality we made the spaces visually appealing too.
Enjoy concrete kitchen countertops and 14” that walls that provide comfortable interior temperatures all year long. Each wing of the house has it’s own heating and cooling unit controlled by thermostats to accommodate different temperature preferences.
You’ll have an authentic Tucson experience in a home designed in Tucson’s traditional architectural style dating back to 1775 including all the amenities of modern living. Hand carved corbels and woodwork enhance the appeal of “feel good” spaces. Wood beamed ceilings add that touch of rustic Tucson charm.

It checked all of our boxes. Pool is a must when visiting AZ; temperatures reach well over 100 degrees
The house has a very sophisticated HVAC system that keeps it very cool all the time.
The neighborhood and location is also a plus.
Near Campbell street which is a major thoroughfare's to The University of AZ and downtown. also near a mall with grocery stores and very high end shops and nice restaurants.

Great stay in a really nice location. Beautiful sunsets, plenty of nice outdoor spaces, both in and out of the sun. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking. Pool and hot tub were clean. We'd definitely stay here again.

We absolutely loved the location of this property-easy access to Campbell to head down to U of A, shopping and all amenities nearby. The house itself was very clean, spacious and in a lovely setting. Lots of outside spaces to relax. We would definitely stay here again!

The house provides an incredibly comfortable and luxurious accommodation for a long stay. The interior furnishings are pleasant, warm and unobtrusive. The furniture, beds, chairs, and tables are well maintained. The kitchen is well-equipped for gourmet family cooking, as well as entertaining. The layout of the house is perfect for guests, having a private space with king bedroom and bath, and another bedroom for kids. There are two separate working areas for offices. The Master Bedroom suite is spacious and comfortable.
The four different exterior spaces provide great views from all directions, with shaded and sunny areas throughout the day. The hot tub, grill and fire pit are easy-to-use. The outside is private, quiet and filled with birdsongs.

The location of the house was great – very quiet with beautiful views of the sunset and cityscape. The beds were comfortable and the outdoor space was amazing! We loved the hot tub and heated pool, as well as the many terraces for relaxing. It was also nice to have the garage to park our car (but watch that step down into the kitchen!).
Speaking of stairs – they are everywhere inside, as others have noted, so this may not be the house for those with mobility issues. In addition, the living room felt cramped for a group of six, and two of the bathrooms were pretty dated. The kitchen was fairly well stocked with the basic pots and pans.
Communication with the host proved to be a bit frustrating. Despite prepayment for a heated pool, it was overlooked, and the host tried to charge me again for that amenity. When I pointed out I had already paid, he agreed to refund $100 for the loss of one pool day (still haven’t seen that refund but hoping it appears soon). The host sent emails prior to our arrival, which was helpful, but responses to the email bounced back. I then sent a message via VRBO about a possible late checkout, and he did not respond until a week later – the day before we were scheduled to leave.
All in all, we had a nice stay, but I don't know if we'd stay here again.

The home itself was beautiful and very comfortable. Plenty of towels, extra blankets and pillows. The kitchen was fairly well stocked for cooking with most utensils and pots and pans for cooking meals. All of the four bedrooms and beds were very comfortable. The indoor areas of the home were absolutely fabulous, but the outdoor property was in desperate need of care. Most of the bushes were overgrown. It was difficult to use the hot tub without brushing up against the bushes that were overgrown. The hot tub also wasn’t very hot, so that was a bit disappointing. We loved everything else about the property and would recommend this home.
3.0
Nicely furnished home very much in Tucson architectural design. The pool is very nice however we had issues while there. The host did refund some of the cost for the heating.
The layout is such that all in your party can spread out and have privacy. The downside for us is that there are steps everywhere - both inside and outside the home. Getting out of the home to walk down to the pool was such that one in our party never made it to the pool or spa as it was too dangerous due to mobility issues. The path to get to the keypad to turn on the spa is uneven rocks. There was no mention in the home description nor any of the reviews that numerous steps needed to be navigated. We would not have rented this home had we known it was not for anyone with mobility issues.

This is a wonderful home with a great view, especially the sun setting over the mountains in the distance while sitting on the deck or in the hot tub, cocktail at the ready.
Very clean, yet inviting and quite comfortable. Nice rustic feel but still has the tech you need if you wish.
Ample space: living area, kitchen, bedrooms and baths are all well laid out and ample. I would easily stay there again.

We all loved the property and the pool and spa were big hits with the grandkids. Easy access to the main things we wanted to see. Nice layout with big rooms.

We loved, loved this Oasis. We appreciated the separate private master suites for quiet and privacy as much as the areas where we could easily convene to enjoy the early morning sunrises and sunsets. Views from every room are relaxing. Garage access was hugely convenient. Perfectly appointed home interior with Hacienda and Adobe furniture and colors. Host Andrew was available and helpful. I would absolutely return.

This was our second visit. Love the location. Highly recommend!

This home is beautiful. Great bedds and linens. Plenty of extra towels. I love the pool was fenced since we have a little one. Beautiful furnishing and decor. Bonus we could park in the garage and could do laundry.
An act of nature caused a power outage while we were there, and the owner was very helpful.
Cons. The pool could have been cleaned and hot tub was dirty. There was a ton of wasp landing in the pool every day we were there. There were crying on the floor under the table when we walked in. Remotes and faucets had finger prints as well as faucets so we ended up desenfecting ourselves.
Overall we would stay again as the owners were very helpful and the location.

This property is wonderful! Beautiful home and location is perfect. The layout of the house is perfect! Every bedroom was private and comfortable. The two master bedrooms with private bath were great being on opposite ends of the house for those that go to bed early or want to sleep in. Views of city and mountains from pool and hot tub with fire pit where awesome. Walking distance to shopping mall and AJs Market means no car needed once you arrive 👍 Will stay again soon hopefully!

This was a wonderful place for us to stay for our family vacation. Space to be alone when needed, space to play cards and laugh. Space to grill, to hot tub to swim. Multiple decks with nice seating to watch the sunrise or the sunset, or to be lazy and just enjoy the sun and read.

It's a gorgeous place to relax. We appreciated the high quality of the house and the furniture. There is a BUT. During the winter season, there is a surcharge to heat the pool. So it could be a good advice to negociate the amount before the booking. Despite this, we give a 5/5

The house was great for a group of friends! Lots of room in the kitchen, dining, living and the bedrooms. All the different patios were perfect depending on the time of day or evening! Best of all having your own pool and hot tub. The hot tub did break down a couple days before we left but the hosts were on it but had to wait for a part so that was a little disappointing. The location was good for walking, shopping, eating and nice and quiet. The sunsets were amazing! Thank you!

Gorgeous private setting just north of La Encantata nice quiet area yet close to hiking/biking trails & shops and restaurants. Very well-maintained property with everything you could want in a rental. Great quality bedding, towels mattresses very comfortable. Enjoyed the pool each day w/nice privacy and surroundings of nature.. we will definitely rent again when we’re back in Tucson As we used to live down there 30 years ago! Recommend AJ‘s grocery store and our favorite restaurants: North , Firebirds, Blanco , Haciendas up in Oro Valley after a hike is always good, El Charro & Guadalajara.-each place had a great fresh margarita that won’t disappoint! Love all that Tuscon has to offer hiking biking running- loved it!

House and outside areas were great. Loved the location. Had everything we needed. Would go back for sure. Only suggestion is new bed pillows!

Loved the location, the layout of the house and the multiple patios. This was great for our family of 5 as everyone had private space to hang out in and the communal areas were perfect. Plus there was a fully stocked kitchen with great pans, nice bedding and comfy beds. Cant wait to return!

Everything about the location of this house was fantastic!! The scenery and surrounding desert was absolutely stunning. The house itself was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with plenty of room for us all to be together yet also have our own space. The pool area was wonderful as was the patio space off the bedroom which offered spectacular views of the sunset. Patios off the other side of the house were perfect for morning coffee. The only things that could use improvement were the one umbrella near the hot tub was broken and a larger, less complicated coffee maker would be great. We LOVED our time here and would highly recommend this home. Simply beautiful!!!

We had a fabulous week. As former Tucsonans we love to visit Tucson for our desert "fix" . This house has the classic Tucson feel, complete with lovely views and within walking distance to La Encantada where good restaurants, shops and an upscale grocery store are located. Property very well stocked and maintained. Super comfortable stay.

This house and property were amazing! The location is tucked into the foothills. Loved the house, the location, the decor, all of it. We'd love to stay again. One thing, that I don't recall seeing in the listing (but I might have missed it), there are a lot of levels in the house - couple stairs here and there to get to the different rooms in the house, including the main living level. (It is built in the foothills, after all.) People with mobility issues might have trouble negotiating the multiple levels.

We love this neighborhood. It is so peaceful and quiet, close to everything, and the homes are beautiful, including this home. It was just my husband and me in this four bedroom luxury home. Check in was a breeze. We never needed to contact management because everything was great. The bed was comfortable and everything was exceptionally clean. The pool and plunge tub were wonderfully refreshing in the 100 degree desert heat. There were lots of outdoor areas to choose from, which is something that is important to us. The kitchen had everything you could need. Be sure to bring shampoo because we forgot and couldn't find any. No biggy.
The home is close to everything Tucson has to offer. There is a CVS, Starbucks, and huge shopping center with restaurants right down the road. I plan to come back and bring friends next time. We live in Seattle and come to Tucson often. This is one of our favorite places to stay. I recommend it! Five stars!

Desert Getaway
Wonderful property to unplug, relax and experience Tucson from. We came with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary. House was close to all amenities, yet far enough to allow for privacy. The property was very comfortable, affording shaded areas to escape the sun outdoors and the pool area was perfect size for our party of four.
