The studio was very nice but the whole area is not. I sadly have never seen so many homeless people in my life. Its honestly very sad to see. To say that the french quarter is nice is crazy. The whole area does not leave much to be desired.

We loved our stay here! It's so quiet and feels like a true neighborhood, while still an easy walk or bike ride from Frenchmen Street and all the action in the French Quarter. The bed was very comfortable and the reclining chair was great (the loveseat less so). The kitchen was more than adequate for our needs, since we mostly went out for meals other than breakfast. The back patio was a lovely spot for those breakfasts! We loved finding new spots nearby and revisiting favorite ones from previous trips; Parleaux Beer Lab and the St. Roch Market were fantastic finds, and Satsuma and Pizza Delicious are as good as we remembered. We went EVERYWHERE on those Blue Bikes and found them easy, fun, and a cost-effective choice for getting around. In/near the Quarter, Mona's Cafe has terrific Middle Eastern food and Green Goddess has delicious vegetarian-friendly options. Further afield, Shaya offers an amazing lunch, and City Park is great to explore and has a first-rate sculpture garden. Thanks for the lovely accommodations, Matilde! We'll be back...

Lovely spot for couple's weekend.
Great location that is about a mile walk from the quarter. So many great little cafes and restaurants right in the neighborhood itself. We felt safe walking through such an eclectic, funky neighborhood. The place is as advertised, clean, stocked and great for two. Parking was always accessible and free on the street in front. Owner was very welcoming and responsive to all messages. Will search for this place when we visit again.

Great place to stay with great hosts!
We had a great stay. Gustavo and Matilde are amazing hosts, that are always available and have great tips for the neighboorhood. If you're lucky you can take a look into their atelier and see some of their amazing art!
The neighboorhood is also great, with plenty of amazing restaurants and bars nearby and just a short walk to the french quarter.

Perfectly lovely
The place was beautiful and just what we needed. The location couldn’t have been better: charming with lots of close-by options, but also just a short bike ride to Frenchman or the French Quarter. Matilde was a wonderful host and very accommodating.

Great Idea on my part
It was such a great idea to stay in Bywater at this house! The neighborhood was extremely quiet & safe. The house was great! Just enough space. My only critique would be that the bathroom didn’t seem to be cleaned. It wasn’t filthy, but it wasn’t spotless either. But to be fair, we arrived very early and the cleaning person may have rushed to accommodate us, which we appreciated! Overall, I highly recommend this property and would do it again in a heartbeat!

I enjoyed my stay.

Great location, clean, safe and quiet, we enjoyed it!
We did not want to stay in the French quarter, though it would be a bit too much, and hoped that this place will be a good fit for us. We are glad we made this choice, location-wise it's pretty close to French quarter, we walked all the time, might time included. The neighborhood has quite a few neat bars and restaurants, overall - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider coming back again!

This place really cute place.
We came down for the music festival and a great time! It was nice to come back to this little quiet place afterwards.

Quaint house - comfortable accommodations for two.
After several stays in NOLA we decided to venture into Bywater area to stay for Essence festival. Nice & quiet neighborhood, off the beaten path. Close enough to all the action and just an Uber away. Uber was the most convenient transport and most affordable.
Matilde provided pleasant and ease of conversation via Home Away app. No concerns, no problems arose.
Neighborhood markets and eateries were great and within comfortable walking distance from residence. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return for a future stay.
Matilde, thankyou for your gracious accommodations!

Awesome!
The apartment is perfectly appointed. Everything you need. Clean & comfortable. Great back deck to enjoy your morning coffee or a cocktail. Quiet neighborhood, the apartment is in the back of a great shotgun house, so no street noise. If you'd like to be away from the tourist traps of the quarter, and can tolerate the occasional hipster, than this is a great place to spend time.

Bywater serenity
My wife and I recently made another trip to the New Orleans area and this time decided to get a little further away from the quarter to enjoy some peace and quiet at night rather than the constant revelry which seems to revolve around the quarter 24 hours a day, we were not disappointed.
Our stay at Matilde Albery's compact but very comfortable shotgun home was a success.
The place was pretty easy to find and was clean, quiet and very easy to use. We were happy with the spacious, private deck out back and thrilled with the quiet of this eclectic neighborhood. On the days that air conditioning was a must, we found the temperature to be perfect and the bed was very comfortable.
The number of eateries and retail in the immediate area were not as prolific as we had expected but it didn't take too long to walk into the major restaurant and bar areas around and in the quarter. The Country Club bar around the corner was a people-watching adventure both times we went. We did discover a foot bridge towards the river that spilled out onto a beautiful waterfront park and the walkway on the other side led us straight to the French Market about fifteen minutes away.
The architecture and personalities we encountered in the area were very diverse, and full of character so we never were at a loss for something new to occupy our exploration of the area.
Our hosts, although we never met in person, were helpful and the beer and chocolate in the fridge, (although we didn't partake of either), were a generous and hospitable gesture.
We strongly recommend this rental to anyone visiting the area who is interested in great proximity to all that is New Orleans without all the sounds that keep you awake when it's time to relax.
(I must be getting old).
Thanks for the hospitality.

The description of apartment on vrbo doesn't "sell" this property but I hope my review will!
This is a very nicely equipped apartment in a historic, double shotgun home that has been very nicely refurbished. 600 square feet is more than adequate space, owners provide coffee and coffee supplies (big deal to me to not have to go find that the first minute!) as well as plenty of toilet paper (some vrbo's give you just enough to get started and that's a hassle). Plenty of storage, and good instructions on how to use the fans and lights, with remotes. This is a GREAT neighborhood. There is a 150 year old church just down the street with a charming bell that rings on the hour; Crescent Park is five minutes away and it's a lovely park where you can walk or ride bikes into the city; uber is available for easy transportation and costs about $7-10 depending where you're going. There is a lot of rehabilitation going on in this neighborhood and streets toward St. Claude St. feel a little sketchy at first, but we felt safe walking that direction (although not at night). If you head toward the river, that part of the neighborhood is moving along in it's gentrification process and there are lovely homes to see as well as incredible restaurants. We ate at several highly reviewed restaurants in other neighborhoods and the best food was in the Bywater nearby this rental. Try Mariza, Elizabeth's and Oaxlis to start.
If you want to enjoy a New Orleans neighborhood, with real people, this is a great option. Things to keep in mind if booking this property: You enter your apartment on the side of the house at the back (this was unclear to me so I add it here). Right where you get the key is the door you enter--not the front door; Oven is gas; furniture is modern--to me this meant a somewhat hard mattress and the futon to sit on was fairly small. I'd recommend a wing chair for putting on shoes and a mattress topper; the garden is clean but could use some plants; laundry room very nice; TV is cable/Netflix only. Don't expect the big three channels (ABC, NBC or CBS); wifi excellent; sheets were excellent quality but we could have used more hand towels and bath mats.
Be brave and leave the French Quarter behind!
