We were so very happy with this clean, quiet place. Couldn’t ask for a better location, everything on Captiva within walking distance. So much wildlife so close, and the beach was so peaceful and pristine. Thanks for such a great stay!

I can’t say enough about the location of this property! It is very close to the beach and very close to town as well as The Green Flash and Jensens‘s if you plan on doing any fishing charters. John, the owner, is super nice and made us feel welcome. I will definitely be going back!

Lovely and peaceful place

Apartment was clean and well supplied with necessary items. Beds were hard and a bit high to get into. The online description stated steps to beach but it was further than just steps. The beach was nice but had an invasion of bugs that bit ferociously! The space I had to park my car was too narrow and too close to shrubs that made it difficult to get in and out of car.

Great location for a fair price! The home was clean, comfortable and looks just like it does in the pictures. It is located on a quiet street that is close to just about everything on Captiva Island. The owner was quick to respond to any questions. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning!

Excellent location- walk to everything less than 10 minutes. Beach only a couple of minutes- as close as you can get without being beachfront. Very quiet! No complaints- would book again.

My beloved and I are repeaters. The location is perfect, short walks to the gulf/intercoastal waters. John is always a gracious host. You can’t beat this Captiva location that is affordable and where you can bring your dog.

My partner and I stayed for 2 weeks and never moved the car. Beach access is about 500 steps from the apartment and the heart of Captiva is a 5 minute walk. The apartment has a private courtyard and both are attached to the owners home but have a separate private entrance. We had dinner at Mucky Duck, RC Otters (with live music) and the Green Flash. All were excellent. There’s an Island Store which does an excellent job with provisions and any alcohol you might need. All in all if you’re looking for a nice relaxing beach with dolphins, pelicans and plenty of bike paths for exercise, and enjoy a quiet relaxing time, look no further. Thank you, John, for your hospitality.

We enjoyed our stay at the Chapin Lane apartment. It was perfect for the 2 of us and within walking distance to many attractions. Short walk to the beach, although the weather didn’t cooperate for the majority of the week.

This 2 bedroom apartment has all the comforts of home and is just steps away from the beach. Its location is close to the island store, great restaurants and check in was so easy. It was our pleasure to meet John (the owner) and we would definitely stay here again. We had a wonderful week on Captiva!

Great location on Captiva with minutes walk to the beach and Mucky Duck and the Bubbleroom. Great communication with the property manager. Will stay here again in the future

Great place for a quiet relaxing time, very little to do in Captiva, but if Sunshine & Sand it your thing.? Captiva is your place. Bring a book and plan to cook. The food offerings are not so great.! Prices are very fair throughout the island. Not a great Active Family style place. You will literally go insane with btoardham. Sun, Water, Sand. We love the beach, as a family we require a bit more entertainment. This is a honeymooners paradise. I think if you want to experience Captiva. It might be worth choking down the price to stay at the south seas resort. And budget 3/4K for jet ski & boat rentals.

The whole experience was great, from finding this property on VRBO, to securing it , communication, check in/check out. John Bates (owner) introduced himself when we arrived, and checked on us a couple days later. The size worked well, as it was just my wife and I. We will definitely return to this beautiful island, and stay at this property.

We spent a lovely week in this 2BR, 1 bath unit that is just steps from the ocean and blocks away from restaurants, the Island Store, bike rentals and anything you might need on Captiva. It has a full kitchen if you want to make any meals and a cute patio area outside. The decorating could use a little updating but all in all it was a great place to stay at a fair price! John, the host, was very accommodating and we appreciated the little things like coffee filters, salt and pepper and saran wrap/foil. You never know if those things will be available and it's a nice bonus when traveling!

Great place to stay on Captiva Island. Quiet street next to the Civic Center , Library, Wedding Chapel, and Old Burying Grounds. Minutes to walk to the beach. Will return next year for sure.

I spent a week here in Captiva with my family. It was amazing! John welcomed us upon arrival. Check-in was very easy. Check out requirement’s are very minimal. Cellular service is hit or miss (Verizon) and Wi-Fi is also not dependable.
Pros: super close walk to the beach. Beach front is right next to Mucky Duck the best place to watch Sunsets! Apartment is within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Beautiful quiet area. Chairs and beach umbrellas are available.
Cons: The apartment is out dated. King bed mattress is bowed on one side. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Not enough utensils or pans for cooking. No oven mitts. The fisher price wagon that is available for use does not work in sand or at the end of the beach access path. No washer/dryer in unit however John’s is available by appointment. No fishing poles available for use.

Perfect place for some much needed R&R. Look forward to another stay!

John's place has everything you need. You cannot beat the location: steps from the beach, two blocks from the Captiva Island "downtown area" with bars, restaurants, live music and McCarthy's Marina home to Captiva Cruises. It is also adjacent to the Public Library. The apartment itself is super-quiet, it comes with all beach amenities, and an outside grill and a table under the palm tree. The owner John has been very kind and helpful during my stay. I am already planning to go back!

This is a quaint place to stay. John was great at responding to questions. He is friendly and attentive. We appreciate his willingness to let us bring our boxer with us. This is so close to the beach and close to eating a shopping. All within walking distance. We are already talking about coming back.

If there were 10 stars I would have given 10 stars. John Bates the owner/landlord was very polite and helpful. Myself as a retired property manager of more than 37 years cannot say enough for the condition of this vacation unit. Every space available in this unit was utilized someway or the other. There's not much to be desired, hairdryer, ironing board, Beach chairs and umbrellas you name it and it's there for your convenience. John is a retired fire fighter and real estate professional. In addition there are several articles of John doing public service. I assure you if you're looking for a nice economical place near the beach as some of the best restaurants around you have found it. Thank you John Bates I enjoyed my stay and I'll look forward to my next one.

The “Bates Hotel” was perfect for our week on Captiva Island. We started off with a late check-in due to airport reservations, but Mr. Bates had it covered. He contacted us via phone to make sure we were OK and then instructed us on how to enter the rented premises without any hassle at all. Once we arrived we immediately realized that this was the placed we hoped it would be. Close to the beach, very well appointed, almost nothing was needed to stay there. Even coffee, spices, paper towels, anything you could think of were already supplied at this place. Beside food, we didn’t have to get anything. Beach chairs, beach toys, beach towels were also available for our use. We have never been anywhere where these kind of amenities were available in a rental. We had a wonderful time with no hassle at all. We would go back to Bates place again and we highly recommend this rental!! Mr Bates, thank you. Steve/Cheryl
