About this house rental
Nestled inside a boulder studded canyon this adobe casita is the perfect peaceful retreat possessing a commanding view of Tucson. With just under 4 acres to roam, the romance of the location will enchant couples. Possessing the rustic qualities of the classic Tucson adobe style, the massive 16' thick walls of the adobe casita were forged from the earth with adobe blocks made on site. The casita appears as though it's always been there having grown out of the ground merging seamlessly with the surrounding desert. Adobe construction including passive solar design moderate temperatures in ways unmatched by other building materials providing an unsurpassed level of comfort.
If you've never slept in an adobe home it may be your best night's sleep yet. The natural materials of the casita were chosen to effect a calming harmony that will help relax you into a deep slumber at night as the coyotes serenade you to sleep. Imagine waking fully restored with an energy reminiscent of your childhood.
The casita features the conveniences of modern living:
•Update Facebook, connect with your family at home via Skype, or just catch up on a TV show you missed on HULU from any room with WIFI.
•Catch the big game, your favorite soap, or the most popular prime-time shows on a large, flat screen, LED HDTV.
•Cuddle with loved ones as the wood burning fireplace warms and transforms your nights into a cherished memory.
•Whip up a quick snack using the new microwave then stash the dishes in the new dishwasher.
•Even though you'll start to miss the casita before you leave, take advantage of the new washer and dryer to pack fresh, clean clothes.
•Start your morning with a complimentary coffee starter pack.
•The 300+ thread count, organic cotton sheets are a joy to sleep on. Additional linens provided to enhance your comfort.
•With more than 350 days of sunshine, Tucson is the sunniest city in the US. Attached covered parking protects your vehicle.
•For your convenience a hair dryer is stored in the bath vanity.
•A naturalist library containing numerous field guides to look up your discoveries made during your foray into the surrounding desert.
•A full kitchen is available for foodies wanting to cook for themselves.

Fantastic once you find the property. Loved every part of my experience here except for landing after dark and trying to navigate to the house at night. Unsettling experience and had to turn around and stay at the casino for the night and wait until day time to find my way. The directions the hosts sends are fine as long as it’s light out. Again - great property once you arrive. Thanks!

We chose this property based on several factors: location, reviews & adventure. Very good choice for us! The Adobe is beautiful & quiet, nice linens & plenty of towels was a bonus. Washer & Dryer too. The all-you-need hot water shower/bath was really a pleasure. Also, Alexa was a very nice surprise! Views were amazing. Everything was very peaceful and relaxing. Would suggest an SUV for the roads. Very easy to drive to Safeway, Walgreens, fast food, etc,

Can't get much closer to nature than staying at the Mud Adobe Casita. The views are amazing. Lots of bird song from dawn to dusk, owls hooting in the evenings and the wash in the back yard is covered it footprints from neighborhood nighttime visitors bobcats and javelina's!. The Casita itself is warm and welcoming. Lovely interior and all the comforts of home including very comfortable beds to sleep in. Perfect size for a small family or couple. I really hope to visit again.

The casita met all my expectations. It is in a gorgeous quiet setting. The king bed was very comfortable and we slept so deep and peaceful every night we were there. It is dark and quiet at night, and the adobe construction was wonderful.
We enjoyed the fireplace, and all the special high quality details that this place provided, like nice sheets, towels, cookware, appliances, decor etc. There is another rental house next to the casita, but we felt like we had plenty of privacy and didn’t notice other guests.

Seven of us from 3 generations came from Seattle, Oberlin Ohio and New York to gather in the desert for a big birthday celebration and had both the Casa and Casita to enjoy. It was wonderful. We had stayed at both individually in the past but having both at once was a treat. Our own Tucson Family Compound. As usual, both were clean, comfortable and well equipped. Andrew also arranged for an additional bed to meet our needs. The setting and surrounding landscape is one of the special treats of staying there. So private and so beautiful. Our 11 year old participant led the climb up the "mountain" behind the Casa and Casita. Just an overall great experience.

Amazing casita . Beautiful scenery on all four sides . Nice warm vibe . Fresh comfortable clean . Beautifully decorated . Clean lovely bed and bedding towels etc . Fully appointed kitchen with a fireplace in the living room and a Weber bbq and outdoor fireplace . Like living in a remote desert canyon with hills on either side of you but only 10 minutes from restaurants and Sawailo Golf Course .

Perfect location. Twinkling lights city view while out in nature with healthy giant saguaros and rocks to scramble. So paintable. Very special building. Totally enjoyed the architectural details everywhere, inside and out. Well decorated in super organic style. Thoughtful hosts, provided welcome basket. Casita great for two, bit small for more people. Queen bed so comfy. Everything top notch. Only thing I hoped for but didn't get was an EMF free sanctuary...tough to get these days with expected modern comforts. A bit far from organic grocery stores, however very close to fantastic authentic Mexican cheap eats. Our favs were San Xavier on weekends and St Mary's rest of week. Opportunity spots for watching sunsets plentiful just minutes away. Would stay again!

Positive: The area is breathtaking! Although there is a house next door you quickly forget it is there. The rocky hills and saguaros at the end of the driveway are picture perfect. The sunrise is beautiful. You can see the lights of Tucson in the valley at night. Plenty of places to take a little hike on the property. Kitchen is well stocked. The washer and dryer are excellent. Location is minutes away from San Xavier Mission, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson, Saguaro National Park, etc.
Negative: The photos are a bit deceptive. The front of the house faces the other vrbo rental. The big picture window looks at the side of the other house. We were unaware there was a house feet away until after we booked. The bathroom was unexpected. The window in the shower is under chest level. No privacy. The bathtub sits about 8 inches above the floor. There is a safety rail but this still might be an issue with anyone with hip or knee problems. There is no place to hang towels except a small, decorative wooden ladder. There was fecal material smeared on wall. Base of toilet had old smelly urine dried to it. I scrubbed the wall and floor but the bathroom still smells. You can tell the floor around toilet does not get cleaned often. There were webs with spiders in bathroom and kitchen. King mattress is rock hard. Sometimes the wifi works great, other times not at all. Bathroom is tiny. Would be okay for a couple or small family.

We really enjoyed our stay with the wildlife, trails and seclusion. When you are on the path to get to the property and you think you are lost just keep driving as it is the last property on the road.

This place was great! I loved the seclusion from the city. Surrounded by beautiful rocks and mountains. Place was very cozy and had the southwest theme. The host was very communicative with everything. You def don’t want to drive here in a low profile sports car cause the road is a little rocky but for my 4 runner it was perfect.

Nice and quiet location in a secluded area. Nice outdoor patio with views of hills. Good base for hiking to the various parks and National Forests. House well equipped. Some reviews mentioned the rough road in, but we just had a Toyota Carolla and it was not an issue if you drive slowly.

My wife and I had a great week at the Firelight Casita. It is immediately obvious that the owners take pride in this place.
We loved the rural setting and yet you are not far from the city. The nighttime view overlooking the city is very nice. The master bed was extremely comfortable. Despite the weather being very cool during our week (a bit of snow one morning!), the space inside was comfortably warm. Unfortunately due to the cool conditions, we were not able to take advantage of the nice covered patio.
We did lots of hiking and there are great hikes close by in the Tucson Mountain Park. We also played some golf. Nearby is Starr Pass and Sewailo. My wife and I highly recommend the Firelight Casita.

Great property in beautiful setting. Comfortable, clean and cozy..
Hated to leave!! Incredible place to stay. Missed seeing Gila monsters bobcats and javelins, although one of the neighbors said they were around.
Private property signs at turn onto West Holladay and at the brown metal pipe before the property were a little unclear. Once we finally found the property, access the rest of the week was no problem. Definitely felt more comfortable with the SUV we rented.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the casita. The property is well appointed and exceptionally clean. The location is a bit remote - down a long dirt road - but the scenery is well worth the rough ride! This is our second stay and we look forward to visiting again.

We enjoyed the more remoteness of this property. Just what we needed for a relaxing desert experience.

This property was perfect. My friend and I were hiking in the Saguaro National Park for a few days and stayed in this place in between. It is perfectly appointed with everything we needed in a stunning setting. We easily drove to the two sides of the park to hike. Easy distance to good groceries and other things you might need - but tucked away in the desert off the beaten path. 10 out of 10. Would go again in a hearbeat!

We had high expectations based on pics and reviews, and this place exceeded expectations. It is lovely, clean, and comfortable.— perfect! We would definitely stay again. The only thing I would tell someone looking to stay here is that the road is a little rough for about half a mile. However, that was no problem for us. The setting is beautiful. Loved it!

Two week rental following a hectic wedding celebration for our daughter. Our purpose was relaxation - good walking and hiking nearby, good for bird watching, comfortable places to sit in the sun or shade and read, close to groceries, restaurants, etc., but peaceful and out of the way. The casita delivered on all points. Modern, well appointed and very clean; quite spacious for something labeled a "casita", in absolutely beautiful location. It's in far southwest Tucson (Drexel Heights) about 12-14 minutes west of I-19 at the end of a dirt road. In 14 days not a single car drove by, yet we felt very safe on the edge of a neighborhood. Well stocked kitchen, plenty of hot water, comfortable bed, fantastic views - it met all our needs. It is a drive to get to central Tucson - Garden District, University, Catalina foothills, Mt. Lemmon, etc., so that may be a factor for some. It didn't hinder us. We ranged all over Tucson to many familiar birding sites, venues such as the Botanic Gardens and restaurants. You need to follow host's written directions to get to the casita first time as many streets your GPS thinks are there aren't, but directions are clear and by day 2 you know how to get anywhere. Recommend arriving in daylight first time to better spot the landmarks and find the casita. We drove (from Omaha) and knew to take lounge chairs from the pictures (otherwise there are only straight back chairs on the porch or out back) and had several naps in the sun when out books got heavy. Satellite tv, so you don't need streaming services. For our purposes it was an A+ visit.

This is a beautiful casita in the hills above Tucson. A wonderful view of the city, lovely interior with beautiful pueblo tiles, all modern appliances. 20 minutes from Saguaro West where we spent every day. Great place to stay!

Authentic and immaculate
Location at the end of a long dirt road in the foothills makes it a true desert experience. You are 5 minutes from shops and restaurants, yet a world away! The property is extraordinarily clean given that the desert produces a lot of dust. The pride of ownership shines through and this unique property. Yes, the road there is rough, but well worth the drive.

Slice of heaven in the Sonoran Desert
This was our third time staying at the casita. It’s a perfect location for us as it’s both close to Tucson and birding hotspots. It’s in a somewhat rural area near the Desert Museum and is immersed in the beauty of the Sonoran Desert. We love it there!
