Popover is one of 4 cottages available to rent on this large waterfront property. It has a bit of height over the cove and Blue Hill Bay.
The living space faces south and west for spectacular sunset views. There is a brand new West Elm sleep sofa in the main living room. The sleeping loft hosts a king bed. Access is a very sturdy ladder-like stairway.
The kitchen is creatively functional. Single burner unit, electric frypan, large toaster oven, mini microwave, large dorm-style fridge, and deck side BBQ make this a great space for easy-peasy cooks. Coffee maker & tea kettle included.
Other cottages on this property include:
Barnacle (sleeps 4), RabbitHole (sleeps 4-5), & Boathouse (2)

We rent Saturday to Saturday, only! OPEN UNTIL mid-OCTOBER
We would love to secure your vacation time on MDI here at Barnacle Landing. The VRBO connections have been wonderful and everyone has expressed their wonder and amazement at our best-kept secret, the cottages on the bay. Renters are still saying this place 'exceeds expectations'. What else can we say? Come see for yourselves.
This family-run property offers quiet respite steps from Acadia National Park. The cottages are kid-friendly and have great decks for sunsets, b-b-qs, and playing. (Sorry, no pets) The surrounding woods are nature's masterpiece quintessential Maine. There is lots more we offer, email me for details of Barnacle Landing, on the WESTSIDE of MDI off Tremont Road.
The property is 1500 feet of shoreline and the cove proves to be a great place to explore Maine marine life and geology. Nearby, Pretty Marsh is chock full of places to explore in our kayaks and rowboats. The harbor is home to seals, porpoises, great blue herons, osprey, and frequent eagles. Fishing and crabbing is always a great way to spend your time.
If you like to swim in the ocean, there are ladders at the dock and a gravel beach to wander in and out of the waves. Of course, there are warmer ponds and lakes very nearby, too.
The 40 acres surrounding the cottages are full of woodsy pathways and mossy areas for exploring. There are mussels to collect at low tide and you can steam your own lobsters on the deck of your house. And, SUNSET is an amazing feature here on the west side of Mount Desert Island.

Perfect cottage for a quietside retreat. Comfortable space and fairy tale wooded setting near the water. Many travelers we met in Bar Harbor were jealous when they heard about our dreamy coastal rental.

We found the location was great for us! Secluded on the quiet side of MDI, yet a good launching point for all the exploring we wanted to do!

This cottage was perfect for us. We came for a week for our honeymoon and never wanted to leave. It was so cozy & cute. We would go out during the day to enjoy some hikes & lobster and come back at night to watch a movie on our laptop by the fire. It was amazing! Sheila was an awesome host as well, very accommodating. We loved every second of our relaxing Maine honeymoon :-)

The Popover was truly the perfect stay. We are active travelers the enjoy having a quiet, comfortable, place to come back to at the end of each day. This perfect cottage was nestled just up from the water on the quiet side of Acadia, allowing us a launching point each morning for whatever fishing or hiking we had planned that day. The sunsets, the solitude, and the over all experience of our week spent here cannot be put into words. My husband enjoyed grilling on the deck each night and wouldn’t stop saying how comfortable the bed was (yes, it’s lofted but he’s 6’5” and still enjoyed it). The cabin had everything we needed to cook, relax, and was easy to find. You really are tucked into the woods to the point you only see the ocean out in front. We were only minutes away from all the quiet side hikes, restaurants, and convenience of the owner’s dock/kayak use was a HUGE bonus. The hosts were so gracious anytime we had questions. We will no doubt be back.

Our stay at the Popover cabin was a true retreat. The cabin was clean, cozy, and VERY comfortable (no, honestly it was the MOST comfortable bed). The kitchen was tight but everything worked great and we cooked at home and enjoyed the outside patio for a few nights. The Popover is located on a wonderful property that is secluded from the main roads and has access to the lake with kayaks and beautiful sunset. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend!

It was a great place to stay while we exploded the island!

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids 10 and under) enjoyed our visit at the Popover Cottage in Seal Cove, ME. We arrived and there was a lovely wooded path (short distance) we walked in order to get to the cottage. We loved it. The air was fresh, smelled like pine. The cottage felt remote and had a beautiful view overlooking the water. The loft bed was comfortable. I cannot speak about the pull out sofa since my husband and I used the loft bed, but our kids (all 3!) slept soundly on it. The kitchen was adequate for our needs. The hot plate came in handy and we were able to fit all our food in the dorm size refrigerator (with a little effort and creative placement of containers). The deck was a lovely setting for meals and our kids loved exploring the surrounding woods. There was one window fan we placed in the upstairs loft window which helped on the two really hot days we were there. We really enjoyed the kyaks available for use. It was great that we didn't need to drive anywhere to rent these.... instead we had a lovely, private family outing on the water. Kids loved this. Also, the swing in the woods made a special memory for them. The owners, Sheila and Dave were friendly and accommodating. During the day we explored Acadia and it was more beautiful than we imagined. It was a perfect adventurous get-away for us.

We loved our stay at the Acadia Popover Cottage!!
The popover was clean and comfortable for our family of four. The children slept on the very nice pullout and my wife and I slept up in the loft. The kitchen is small, but functional. We were able to cook a nice vegetable dish in their plug in Wok.
There is a real nice porch to sit on and watch the sunset! There are really nice chairs and tables and the porch gets nice afternoon sun.
There is also a very nice dock you can relax on and swim, although the water can be cold! There are a few kayaks you can use, plus a row boat. It’s great to sit at in the morning sun.
We found the host family to be very accommodating! They are extremely nice and welcoming. Our kids were able to play with some of the other children on the property and they played very well together. I’d definitely recommend this place if you have children.
Overall highly recommended and if we ever make it back to Acadia we’d love to stay again!

We have been vacationing regularly at Mount Desert Island for the past 25 years and consider it 'a piece of heaven that dropped from the sky'. It wasn't until we stayed at the Barnacle, last summer, we grew a further appreciation of the Island. The setting is tranquil, and the spirit is extraordinarily peaceful. The views are breathtaking, especially in the early morning mist. The deck, which overlooks the bay, was the perfect setting for reading, doing yoga, playing cards or having our meals. The house was spotless and perfectly suited with games, comfortable furnishings and a well equipped kitchen. The private pier offered us the use of kayaks and a nice place to lounge on the bay. Dave and Sheila even took all the renters out on their sail boat one evening. Area restaurants were terrific and all our shopping needs were close by. Our children didn't even notice the fact there was no TV. It was the perfect vacation.

This will be our 3rd summer coming back to Rabbit Hole with our family, and we intend to come back every year for as long as possible! Truly a spectacular setting that we find to be so invigorating and grounding. Nothing but fresh air, nature's beauty and quality family time. Our days are usually full of hiking and biking around Acadia National Park, heading back to the cottage to swim and use the canoes at the dock, then eating dinner on the porch watching the sun set over the water. Couldn't be better! The cottage is rustic, which we love, and always clean and well-equipped. The owners are very friendly and helpful too. Our kids love it as much as we do! We highly recommend the Barnacle Landing Cottages.
