About this house rental
" Your mouth drops open and you become speechless, upon entering this beautiful house and property! We had a very relaxing stay. Extremely comfortable and well stocked with absolutely everything you’d ever need for cooking or enjoying the beachfront home!" Highly recommend. (June 23 review).
The beautiful Ranvik Beach House offers you a front row seat on the SW edge of the Salish Sea to enjoy a private time of retreat and relaxation. When you first walk through the front door and experience the serenity of this spacious, fully remodeled mid century modern beach house, you will feel at home. Expansive windows reveal Admiralty Bay against the majestic backdrop of the snow capped Olympic Mountains, the picturesque ferry crossing and spectacular sunsets. Open the French doors and breathe in the fresh salt air.
Ranvik is the place you have been looking for where you can walk a sparsely populated beach, touch your toes to the water, or sit on the deck only a few feet from the bay to watch the otters, eagles that nest nearby, porpoises, sea lions, seals, loons and a variety of other waterfowl. Some of our guests have seen whales as well or have caught salmon from the beach. Those who want to work from home are offered hi speed internet (250 mbs, eeros Mesh WiFi) and several places to set up “shop” without losing that view.
Now step back into the interior to relax in the bright, airy great room with its large gas fireplace and high ceilings. Interior walls have shiplap creating a beach house/farm house vibe. The large water view kitchen with quartz countertops, modern appliances and everything you need to produce your favorite.. Three spacious bedrooms with king beds have premium linens. Two separate sleeping wings have updated baths and provide separation and privacy. In two of the three bedrooms you will wake to ocean views. The main bathroom has a soaking tub.
Start your morning at the coffee bar. Hot chocolate available for those cool days or evenings when you want to sit by the fire and watch the waves and wildlife. Whether you dine inside or grill outside, Ranvik’s ambience is world class and your favorite foods and beverages will taste even better here! If you don’t feel like cooking you can take a short drive to wonderful restaurants in Coupeville or other nearby villages on Whidbey. Then finish out the night with some great stargazing from the lounge chairs on the deck or roasting marshmallows in the large fire pit.
Ranvik Beach House isn’t your average vacation rental! Rather it is an amazing beloved beachfront family home named after the Ranvik family which means “bay of the ravens” in Norwegian; we follow many generations of Scandinavian hospitality. This home is available on a limited basis for savvy vacationers who want a “world class experience” (in the words of our reviewers). Over the past 12 years, Ranvik has received over 200 Five Star reviews from satisfied guests.

AREA ACCOLADES: Everyone loves Whidbey!
Ranked 3rd Best Island in US by USA Today readers 2014.
Sunset called it one of the "20 best Island Escapes" 2014.
The New York Times identified Whidbey Island as one of the 5 best places on the planet to visit and nearby Oak Harbor was named Washington’s “Safest City” by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.
Travel & Leisure’s Most Romantic Summer Destinations July 2010 issue featured Whidbey Island as one of their 16 picks world wide: “Though it’s only a 20-minute ferry ride from the Seattle suburb of Mukilteo, this island oasis feels like the Pacific Northwest’s last frontier—a lost-in-time place of towering Cedars and sparkling coves overlooking Puget Sound.”
"Whidbey Island - The closest place to far away"
" Coupeville & Admirals' Cove - The sunny side of Whidbey"
"Whidbey Island, so Magical you need a Ferry to get there!"

The area is known as "The Sunny Side of Whidbey" thanks to 1/3 less rainfall than most of the Pacific NW coast. A twelve month 'Sunshine Study' in 2010 & 2012 demonstrating the dramatic effect of the Rain-shadow on # of days of sun and rain. Here are some highlights:
•Winter (Nov-Jan) saw 5X as many "mostly sunny days" in the rain-shadow vs. Seattle.
•Winter saw only 1/4 as many "dreary days" in the rain-shadow vs. Seattle.
•Spring (Feb-May) saw the highest number of 'rain-shadow' days per month, at nearly 8! During the summer most days are sunny days.
• Coupeville received 20" of rain compared Seattle's 36".
Thanks to the Rainshadow your chances of enjoying some sunshine here November through March are about 75% better than along the I-5 corridor! Due to its drier climate and position over stunning coastal areas, it is often an ideal location for many Winter activities, such as beach walks/ hiking, golf, bicycling, wave watching, or simply exploring. What great reasons to consider booking a few days at Ranvik Beach House during the winter months!
It is also called "The closest place to far away" & for many residents of the Washington I-5 corridor you can get away on a single tank of gas!
Seattle King 5 TV viewers nominated Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve as 'Best Hiking Trail; Best Place to Watch a Sunset; Best Picnic Spot; Best Bird Watching'.
Sunset Magazine has named the Coupeville to Port Townsend as "one of the 5 best ferry rides in the Northwest."
Ebey’s Landing is billed in local guidebooks as one of the best hikes in Washington. 'This 5.6-mile trail, just five minutes from Coupeville, with mostly dry trails year round, far exceed the expectations of many visitors.'
Noise Alert: 95% of the time this is a very quiet area. However ~5% of the time, weekdays only, people in the Admiralty Bay area may experience jet noise when the jets from Whidbey Naval Station practice carrier landings on the Outlying Field 2 miles north of the house. Flyovers typically last 1 to 2 hours. Occasionally they last up to 6 hours and continue for an hour or two after darkness. These flyovers are sporadic; we have no way of knowing when they will occur.
If you have noise cancelling headphones, we suggest you bring them just in case.
Please realize that ALL homes along Admiralty Bay - and indeed much of the northern half of Whidbey - are subject to this.
Most of our guests have found it really interesting to get a close up view of these fantastic flying machines. A few have found them to annoying, especially after 10 pm (very rare).
If this happens while you are staying at Ranvik Beach House we suggest one of two options:
1. Stay inside and wait it out. It isn't terribly loud inside. We have ear plugs each bedside table for guest use. These mute but don't eliminate the sound.
2. Hop in your car and enjoy some of the other wonderful spots on Whidbey for a few hours.
Chances are that you will not experience this. However, if this would ruin your vacation, you should consider renting in some area other than Admiralty Bay / northern half of Whidbey Island. Please understand that we have no control over this and thus cannot offer any sort of refund or compensation to guests who experience flyovers.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us via the VRBO inquiry tab if you have any questions.

The view from this house was stunning, and the owners have thought of every little detail! We enjoyed this with family and friends for the weekend; would have been happy to have more time to enjoy the fire pit, the deck seating for dinner, the sunsets. There were a lot of detailed instructions that could benefit from simplification, but it is clear that the owners value this space and want their customers to enjoy it thoroughly, which we did!

A full wall of clean windows looking out on Admirlty Bay … priceless!! Immaculately clean house supplied with essentials…. Beautiful design & layout with separate media room .. Enjoyed all the ship & boat traveling on the bay including the Ferry that took us to Pt Townsend at the end of our stay ! Loved the daily eagle sightings !! Thank you for everything!!

I stayed here once before so I knew my family would love this house. I had family from Minnesota and Florida come out to spend five days at this fabulous beach house. We loved it so much we're already talking about coming back next year.

The house is very comfortable and the scenery is amazing. Wonderful place to spend some time. Pictures of the view can't do it justice. The host takes great care of the place and is very easy to work with.
Highly recommend.

We have stayed at Ranvik multiple times over the years with our young kids that are now teens, and love it every time. We return to Ranvik for the kind and helpful hosts, the beautiful house itself, the direct beach access yard, and all of the small, homey touches that make it a wonderful vacation we always look forward to, time and time again.

Our second stay was much like the first, in this spotless, well equipped, lovely beach house. A bit of jet noise and rain this time allowed us to cozy up in this comfortable home. Our favorite spot on Whidbey.

The house was as advertised - great view, clean, very comfortable, thoughtfully arranged, great cooking setup. Unfortunately for us the navy planes were practicing all the days we were there. We knew it was under the flight path, and Dan told us that they would be practicing that week, but we didn't quite realize how disruptive it would be. It definitely put a crimp in coversation as they practiced about 3 hours each day in afternoon/early evening. Otherwise the home was truly lovely.

This beautiful home was perfect for spending time with our young adult sons. The view and outdoor space are stunning! Inside provided ample gathering space as well as private spaces and comfortable beds in the bedrooms. The kitchen was also awesome, we did lots of cooking, grilling and spectacular happy hour spreads on the deck.
The location in the center of the island worked well for outings to hike at Deception Pass, Ebey’s Landing, Trillium Community Forest and the Driftwood State Park which we walked to from the house. Beautiful! It was easy to get to Coupeville and Langley where we went out for a couple meals. We hope to come back to this property!

My MIL and sister and I rented it for a girls weekend. Mom couldn't make it so it was just me and my sister. Our jaws dropped when we saw how awesome this house is. This house in a quiet neighborhood has a great view and you won't want to leave. There is a reason this place is rated 5 stars. I loved how organized and nice the owners are. The check-in and check-out instructions were great. You'll find everything you need here. There are comfy blankets, interesting dishes, games, puzzles, even a telescope We can't wait to come back next year.

Our stay at the Ranvik Beach House was simply amazing! From the get-go, we were blown away by the stunning location and the incredible views right from the property.
The owners were absolute gems – so friendly and helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed and more, and communication with them was a breeze.
As for the beach house itself, it was perfect. It had all the comforts of home and then some. We felt completely relaxed and at ease the moment we stepped inside. Plus, the decor was just right – cozy and welcoming.
Waking up to those breathtaking ocean views every morning was a highlight we won't soon forget. Whether we were sipping coffee on the deck or lounging indoors, the scenery was always there to take our breath away.
In short, our time at the Ranvik Beach House was everything we could have hoped for and more. It was the perfect mix of relaxation, comfort, and natural beauty, and we can't wait to come back for another stay. If you're looking for a slice of paradise, look no further – this place is it!

This was the perfect location for our family’s Thanksgiving celebration. The view of the water from the many windows in the house was mesmerizing. The beach was steps from the back door. The house was stocked with everything we needed to fix our holiday meal and the spacious interior was beautifully decorated. The outside area has lots of seating and even a fire pit. With its central location, it was easy to get to any part of the island. We can’t wait to come back for a longer stay at this incredible property.

We loved this beautiful, private and comfortable home. The location was perfect - being right on the water with amazing views and centrally located on the island - made our visit one we will never forget! We appreciated the fireplace and plentiful warm and cozy blankets throughout the house on chilly evenings, and the quality and abundant cookware for home cooked meals.

My husband and I splurged and booked our stay at this big, beautiful home on the water for just the two of us. We choose this location for its beach access as well as the amazing home and outside space. We are avid kayakers and brought our own sea touring kayaks and spent all five days on the water in our boats at different locations around the island including from our own beach. You absolutely can't beat that. We paddled over 50 miles and was so glad to come back to the house to recover and continue to enjoy the water in our own private beach space. The house was perfect, had everything we needed and then some. While it was just the two of us, it would be an amazing place to bring family and friends and next time we 'might' do that. We rarely stay at the same place twice, but this will be an exception for sure. Dan and Lisa were the most amazing hosts, responsive, accommodating and generous-Thank you! Already considering a return visit.

We paddled, swam, hiked, biked, and gazed at sunsets and sea life from a clean, comfortable, well-equipped and home-like base at Ranvik Beach House. Personal touches, comfortable beds, and great location add up to a return trip for our group. Hosts were responsive and provided lots of helpful information about the house and Whidbey Island.

Great setting for an escape, hosts have thought of everything with the provisions at the house - nice that some firewood is provided and blankets to keep you warm outside whilst you watch the sunset each evening. Very comfortable rooms. An all round brilliant property

We absolutely loved staying in this beautiful, beachside home. The house is exceptionally lovely, tastefully furnished and decorated, with a well-equipped kitchen and outdoor grilling area, an outdoor firepit, and outdoor furniture on the deck. It was very relaxing sitting on the deck or the beach facing the Olympic Mountains and watching the boats go by. each morning we saw fish jumping out of the water and occasionally seals chasing them. What a paradise!

What a spectacular week in a lovely house! We chose this home above others because of the view it semeed to have and it did not disappoint in any way! We enjoyed watching the wildlife over coffee every morning and through the spotting scope; bald eagles, seals, sea lions, tons of other birds, and porpoises. The location was about two hours from everywhere we wanted to go...Olympic, North Cascades, Seattle, Vancouver. It was just right for us. The Navy was doing exercises during our visit, but it didn't bother us. My husband's words after repeatedly seeing the bellies of the fighters..."that is never not cool." The hosts are fantastic and provided everything we needed. The home is very private, well taken care of, and very clean. It felt like a true home, not a rental. Thank you all for a wonderful home base for our adventures!

How much do I love staying at Ranvik Beach House? Let's just say I just enjoyed my fifth stay there! This gorgeous beachfront home and it's location on Whidbey Island is really the perfect combination. I could spend days relaxing on the deck listening to the waves come in, watching the sea lions, otters, eagles, and cruise ships go by, and walking the beach which is always void of people.
This trip, we had reservations for the Coupeville/Port Townsend ferry (which is just minutes away) and enjoyed an afternoon exploring old town Port Townsend. Another day we hopped in the car and drove north to Deception Pass and had a picnic on the beach.
Every time I arrive, the stress instantly fades away as soon as I open the door. To me, that is priceless! Thank you so much, Dan & Lisa, for all that you do to provide the absolute perfect sanctuary!

The pictures do not do it justice! Beautiful home, amazing views, and everything you could ever need is here. The beach was amazing, and to hear and see the waves from you bed! Fantastic!

This property is simply gorgeous. The huge windows, water steps away, and gas fireplace kept us parked on the couch staring at the view for hours. And the spotting scope to get a closer look at passing boats and birds was a huge perk! We were afraid it would feel too big for a couple, but we just ignored the guest wing. The kitchen has everything. This was a splurge for us but worth every penny. The hosts communicated by text unobtrusively but cheerfully, and happily gave us recommendations when we asked for them. A gem.

5 Star PLUS!
This was my 4th stay at Water's Edge Beach House and it still rates 5+ stars in my opinion! The home itself is spotless with everything you could want or need available - from salt & pepper to bikes to ride in the neighborhood! The most magical thing about it is the home's location. It is literally ON the beach! In the 4 days we were there (May 2022) we saw a total of 8 people. All at different times of the day. When we took our walks on the beach, we were the only ones on it. To fall asleep with the amazing sound of the waves coming in at night is the best natural melatonin there is. We watched sea otters in the water, numerous eagles overhead, cruise ships heading out to Alaska, and deer casually strolling about. By the way...the beds are extremely comfortable and each bed comes with an amazing selection of pillows, all a different fill and firmness to help with an amazing night sleep. My 5th trip is already reserved for this fall and I can't wait!
