Unique experience in the desert! Enjoyed the peace and quiet and escape during grad weekend at UofA. Owner very nice and helpful, everyone enjoyed the time. Thanks Nancy for taking care of the Neill Family!

We had 15 adults staying on the property, with the owner allowing two trailers to be parked with electricity which worked out great. Spacious house that was well stocked with all that was needed for a great time. The host lives next door and she was very helpful in promptly working out a few issues that came up. We had great access to the many sites in the Tuscon area to visit. We had a wonderful reunion with some great memories from our stay in the middle of the desert!

Very large house, lovely rural property w/ abundant wild life, horses, & desert plants. Living rm enormous, lots of seating. Dining rm very large. Kitchen large, set up for catering. Huge shaded patio in front & lg upstairs deck in back.
Inside, several changes of floor level, many about 2”, but kitchen is two full steps down. Locking house would not be easy, and we were not given a key. Not a prob for us w/ rural location & owner living on property.
At tail end of winter, pool did not appear swim ready.
Would have improved our stay: brighter lighting, esp in kitchen, space for storing our own items (shelves in kitchen, surfaces in bdrms).
7 bedrooms are listed:
Bdrm 1, ensuite bathrm: door to hall & door to back yd through bathrm.
Bdrm 2, ensuite bathrm: door to dining rm & door to back yd.
Bdrm 3 opens onto upper kitchen.
Bdrm 4, ensuite bathrm: door to hall & door to front patio. Route from bed to hall goes through barrier-free shower area. Bath/hall door blocks hall if left open. (See bdrm 6 for more.)
Bdrm 5, door to hall & door to front patio, sink & communicating door to bdrm 4 can be closed off. (See bdrm 6.)
Bdrm 6, a loft over part of bdrm 4/bath. Access is via ladder (not quite vertical). Loft is completely open to the bdrm below, also somewhat open to kitchen. Egress from loft is via bdrm 4. Door opening to bdrm 5 blocked by ladder.
Bdrm 7 has sink, access is via a set of exterior stairs.
“Powder rm” (toilet/sink) in addition to the 3 ensuite bathrms.

5 brothers and sisters, our spouses & sister-in-law gathering. We are all in our 60, 70 & 80’s. This house is quite a unique home. We all had bedrooms & beds. The configuration was sometimes interesting. And, because of being repeatedly being built on to, we had to negotiate various levels with 2” steps, regular 1 or 2 steps involved. As we had two members of our party that have severe vision issues these changes in the floor were a big issue. BUT we noted and “stepped up” to the challenge. It was a beautiful setting and the house allowed us to be together and get closer as a family. Siblings get away was a success!

We’ve used VRBO for years..large, medium &small, domestic ∫ernational. This is by far the most unique. It is Nancy’s (host/owner) home, so by no means a sterile VRBO. She has a separate space when there are guests. She was most generous with the use of everything. The desert setting is amazing. The property seemed so isolated yet we were near urban conveniences (grocery store, restaurants etc). A near perfect spot for our family Christmas. Decor is a bit on the rustic/shabby chic side. Living/common space was fabulous. Plenty of room for craft area for the kids, game table, tv, etc. Kitchen is well equipped..in fact I’ve never seen so many pots&pans in one kitchen. FYI: Technically there are 7 sleeping areas. Configuration of bunkhouse area is a challenge. The loft is up a steep ladder, which is located in the middle of one bedroom & requires you to go thru that BR to access a bathrm or the rest of the house. The bathrm is an open space with toilet/sink separated by a curtain & a handheld wand shower so entire bathrm floor gets wet. The other 2 bathrms are ensuite,so you must enter a guest’s BR to use them. There is also a half bath & she opened her private bathrm. From the 7th sleeping area you go outside & down steps to a bathrm & rest of the house. The 8 &11y/o loved that space. Spacious patio with great views & a charcoal grill. Nancy was very accommodating and helpful..let me bring food a day early and found a lost kindle. Thank you for sharing your home.

We had a great time celebrating my mom's 90th birthday with family and friends. Nancy was a delight to work with. The house was great for the Thanksgiving dinner and the birthday party. The local friends could not believe we found such a great place to celebrate. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with EVERYTHING we needed for serving and meals in between the parties. We had our own refrigerator to store all of our food for the week. A great time was had by all.

Great property, included all the amenities you can think of. It was just a mile from where our horses stayed and 2 miles from our venue.
We had 5 families that totaled 11 people. Inquire about the room config. The three beds in the bunk house are all open together with one bathroom.
We enjoyed a dinner all together on night out on the patio that we made in the fabulous kitchen.
The owner is wonderful and took great care of us.
Greatly enjoyed a wood burning fire in the fireplace each night we were there! One of my favorite things!

If you are looking for an isolated house that is old without modern conveniences, this is your place. The house is eclectic and there is stuff everywhere. It left us all feeling not clean. Many of the plugs don't work, there are minimal locks to outside doors and that also feels unsafe.
There were 7 of us and we didn't even stay there the 2nd night.

Our family had an exceptional 4-day stay at the Spectacular Desert Villa, also known as Nancy's Wild Purple Ranch & Retreat. Our party of 14 thoroughly enjoyed the numerous amenities offered by the Ranch and had the pleasure of celebrating our mother's 90th birthday with additional extended family members and friends who attended the festivities. The Ranch proved to be an ideal venue for hosting a family gathering, boasting a charming rustic ranch house with a modernized kitchen and a spacious porch that allowed us to relish the picturesque surroundings. Nancy, our gracious host, made our stay feel like a reunion with a dear old friend. Without hesitation, we highly recommend this location for anyone seeking a remarkable setting for a large family gathering.

Our Hostess, Nancy, is delightful, good-natured and grateful owner of her 10 acre Purple Cactus Ranch. Plenty of room for our 8 Stay-Over 90th Birthday celebrant group and generous party spaces both in&out for the 22 of us celebrating on the big day.

Seven 74 year old women from around the country gathered at this spacious, rambling villa filled with antiques and art and cozy nooks to gather in as well as multiple gathering spots on a huge porch and around a pool. The grounds were lush desert filled with budding cactus and birds and lots of walking paths. It is a perfect venue for a reunion. We didn't use the upstairs bedrooms due to concerns about climbing down stairs at night to use a bathroom (which happens at our ages!) but there were 2 rooms with King beds that were fine to share. There is a huge modern kitchen. We all enjoyed the property immensely and would all return!

Our family had a reunion and the house was large enough to hold all 12 of us. We unfortunately had to shorten our stay due to a family emergency, but we enjoyed our few days while we were there. Nancy was very nice and accommodating and the house is located in a convenient location to see all of Tucson.

We loved the ranch! Plenty of room for all 12 of us, 7 adults and 5 kids ages 16 to 7. Beautiful and scenic location, close to Saguaro National Park and the Sonoran Desert Museum. Fabulous pool, lots of great outdoor spaces for lounging or eating or playing cards and games. Well stocked kitchen, all the pots, dishes and utensils you need. And the host is friendly, helpful, and available for any questions, recommendations, and help needed. Highly recommend for a big group.

Wild Purple Ranch is quirky, magical, and was perfect for our family & friends gathering. We swam, cooked, hiked the property & the nearby parks, and visited other sites (downtown Tucson, the Desert Museum, & the the botanical garden) for 10 glorious days.
This is NOT a luxury spa; it is a labyrinth of a house with beds in lofts and up ladders, 2 master suites, and 4 bathrooms for 7 bedrooms. You want to stay here with people you can get along with.
It is also NOT a staged showpiece: sometimes a light suddenly goes out or a chair tilts funny. However, the artifacts and decor made it seem like we were living in a fantasy. We loved it. Every day was a surprise, and every day was a joy.

This property is amazing. AMAZING. And to make it even better, Nancy is such an amazing hostess. We thoroughly enjoyed running a retreat here and will definitely be back

Nancy was such a wonderful host, so friendly and helpful, and she even cut up apples and let us feed and pet her horses! The property itself is magical, my family and I stayed for a wedding nearby. We loved hiking through the gardens with different themes, and the house is great for a big group. We were all able to have our own spaces and spaces large enough for us to hang out together. Great host, great house, and centrally located to a number of things. You feel like you’re in a nature preserve but you’re only 5 minutes away from restaurants banks, stores and 15 min from all Tucson has to offer. My family and I had such a great time, my sister said on her last day “I’m going to miss this view”, and I couldn’t agree more.

We were looking for a home close to our events that would be large enough for our group, and Nancy's property fit all those needs. She is a gracious hostess who was readily available to us, and the property was lovely. Spacious grounds with a path on a quiet street, plenty of room for a nice walk. Her home was clean and beautifully decorated. It is close to shopping but still felt separated from the hustle and bustle. Would definitely stay again!

This was the perfect place for our extended family to meet up and enjoy the Tucson area. The house was clean, with beautiful and eclectic decor. It has multiple welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces for groups to relax and mingle, and plenty of sleeping space for our extended family of 11 adults and 2 kids. Nancy was a great host, very accommodating and friendly, including bringing us a plate of delicious freshly baked homemade cookies on Christmas Day! The fireplace was delightful for our winter visit. The location is great with easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, hiking, and anything you might like to do in Tucson, but in a quiet location with lots of open outdoor space. Highly recommend this gem for a large group!

The ranch is a beautiful, eclectic place. Outdoor space is perfect for any size group, as is the dining room. Owner is very friendly. Sleeping accommodations are not exactly as represented, twin beds were nothing more than toe-to-toe pads on a wooden bench. Out of 3 bathrooms and a powder room, 2 bathrooms were fully functional, 1 had a trickle of hot water, and the powder room toilet had to be filled manually.

6 old friends reunited here for a long weekend and had a great time. The property is amazing and the house well equipped. Some of the best hiking Tucson has to offer is accessible within 10 - 25 minutes or you can just enjoy a leisurely stroll on the grounds.. Nancy was a great host and was responsive to anything we needed.

Very eclectic property. We found it very interesting. Lots of room, great for a large family gathering. It is as advertised. It would be great to have a history of the property.

Nancy was great. She wanted our stay to be above our expectations and achieved just that. Beautiful location and the perfect place for 8 of needing a place to have meetings all day and a great place in the evenings as well.
Thanks Nancy for everything!

This space was perfect for our family event. Slightly quirky (in a good way) house in a very nice desert setting. Well-stocked kitchen and lots and lots of space. The outdoor patio was so lovely, as was the pool area. We would absolutely rent this house again.
1.0 / 5.0
This place is very misleading. It is dirty and states that there are 7 bedrooms. 4 of them have no air conditioning. The owner stays on the property and is at the house every day. We played music to celebrate my daughters white coat ceremony and the owner came screaming at the house. The music wasn’t even that loud. She was obnoxious and rude. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

An oasis in the desert
Nancy is an awesome hostess! The property is large enough where a tour is required. Nancy and the property were above expectations. It is a beautiful oasis snugged into the foothills. Great separation from other properties but close to campus and other attractions. Highly recommended for parties of 14ish.

Property was great, wildlife, landscape, open spaces, many gathering spots. Enjoyed the pool and walks in the desert. The house is eclectic and a bit confusing at first but it worked out great. Our host was very attentive and provided everything we needed.

Great family gathering
Property worked well for a family gathering. Lots of space to gather for conversation, eating, relaxing. Bonus - the veranda - we brought a telescope and viewed the stars after dark. Two year old granddaughter loved feeding the horses Belle and Corona and still talks about them. Lots of birds including a nesting hummingbird and a beautiful cardinal. Great setting.

Beautiful Oasis in the Sonoran Desert
We loved staying at this truly unique and beautiful oasis of Sonoran plants and wildlife. The villa was very spacious and comfortable, with many indoor and outdoor areas for us and all the kids to relax and explore. The location was perfect, with easy access both to remote National Park landscapes as well as urban activities and dining. This is a truly special place and the owner Nancy was wonderful. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a fun, memorable experience in a peaceful, natural setting with amazing views and sunsets.

Awesome property
We had a great time with my mother's surprise birthday party. Nancy was a great host and was there to help us with whatever we needed. The property is beautiful, has lots of room and is full of wildlife. Nancy put her heart and soul into the house.

Great Desert Solitude
Unique and beautiful property. Not a traditional hotel-like experience where everyone has their own bathroom off their bedroom....if you're looking for that kind of cookie-cutter thing, this isn't it. But if you want beautiful views, a great place for walking, proximity to Saguaro West, and a sort of mysterious labyrinthine layout, this place is wonderful. Great kitchen with all the gadgets. BEAUTIFUL patio spaces. Pool very chilly in March despite claims to be swimmable (suppose that depends on who's definition). Also, bunk house area wall doesn't go all the way up, so you can get some common area noise in those two bedrooms.

Amazing Accommodations
Our family of 9 had a great time at the Villa. Nancy is a fantastic host! She was always available and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed everything about our stay including the kitchen, living room, fireplace, sleeping arrangements, rooftop patio, front porch and all of the property..especially the horses! The children loved the horses! The views were amazing, and we were within close driving distance to grocery stores, etc. The decor has a very unique history, and you can tell Nancy has put her heart and soul into the house. We were very comfortable throughout our entire stay and will definitely stay there again.

A week in the desert
We, all 11 of us ages 7 to 78, had a great time! There is much to see and do in the area, and there are very comfortable places to hang out both inside the hacienda and on its patios. This is a comfortable, interesting, and commodious house with much to recommend it.

Ranch in the mountains shade
Nancy was great host, very involved in our stay. We had good communication, and she did her best to accommodate our needs. There is a Costco right next to the property which was great. The kitchens are dated but are fully equipt. Property is dark inside like a cave, great for sleeping in. Fire pit was wonderful, used it a ton. Would recommend for anyone looking to get away for a while. Wild dingos and pigs roaming around outside, rooftop veranda is awesome. Overall was a good stay.

Sonoran Desert Oasis
Booked this gem so my family could gather in Tucson to watch my son’s band play a charity event. Even my grandsons came along & they were as blown away by this location as the adults! The house is a open floor plan with treasures in every room. The Host Nancy is a great person and she’ll make everyone feel at home. We loved every minute of our stay
