About this cabin rental
***
Yellowstone has re-opened following historic flooding! WE ARE OPERATING AS NORMAL.
In October 2022, Yellowstone National Park completed emergency road revisions for the northern range, allowing the North and Northeast entrances to re-open after four months following the damage from the major spring flooding event. This means our cabin and Silver Gate are accessible via the park, as in years past. We're excited to welcome guests back to Silver Willows!
Thank you for the outpouring of concern and for your continued support during this challenging time.
***
Get away from the highway! The Silver Willows "Ursa" cabin is one of the region's newest rental cabins, completed in the fall of 2016.
Ursa, or "The Bear," is the sister cabin to Silver Gate's highest-reviewed rental property, Sarva ("The Moose," VRBO #316248). This cabin is situated in the eastern meadow of a four acre parcel of land, bordered by pine and aspen trees to the west and north, with Soda Butte Creek a stone's throw away. Tall pine trees ensure privacy between the two cabins. The property is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek, so you'll be away from the highway traffic that runs through town.
This cabin comfortably sleeps 4 (1 queen bed, 2 full beds), with an added raised air mattress available for a fifth guest. Please note that a fifth guest will invoke the $30/night extra persons fee.
Ursa is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.
The Silver Willows property is located away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. This cabin sleeps up to 4 people on a queen bed (in the master bedroom) and 2 full beds (in the loft), all with memory foam mattresses. It's a great option for smaller groups and families, while larger groups may want to consider the Sarva cabin.
Because the property is south of the highway, snowmobilers have quick access to the Bannock Trail and can ride directly from the property to the backcountry sledding areas beyond. In 2016 we have added additional trailer parking areas on the property for those hauling in their sleds.
Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

I spent 4 nights in this house a short drive down a gravel road from the highway. There are several adjacent properties but all are partly screened by trees and it is a quiet neighbourhood. The inside of the property has comfortable and good quality furnishings' and appliances and is very clean. It is about a mile from the entrance to Yellowstone National Park, and this is one of the quiet entrances so no waiting in line!.
I greatly enjoyed my stay here and I would happily book this property again.

A really nice place. Not as secluded as it looks in the pictures, but it’s a small little town and everything is just kinda all together. The cabin is really nice and homey and has everything you could need for cooking . And you will want to cook because there isn’t much as far as restaurants go. But it’s by far the most beautiful entrance to Yellowstone.

The home is clean and welcoming. We very much enjoyed the full kitchen and made sure we stocked up on groceries in Bozeman which was great advice. We wish that the place was more private and easier access to the Soda Butte creek, but certainly peaceful spot.

This property is on my top 10 of VRBO rentals (and I rented many vacation homes in MT over last 20 years)! Despite the close proximity to the highway running through town, you barely hear the vehicle traffic noise. The access to and wading accessibility on Soda Butte Creek is great--reason for my stay here and this area (FISHING!). The cabin was top-notch (and larger than anticipated from the pictures). Very modern, yet great "rustic" feel. Love the covered porch facing the treed meadow and creek (wished it was a little more cleared of the trees to be able to see the creek and mountains more--but still very relaxing space). Impressed with the owners' prompt responsiveness to questions prior to arrival and their "welcome call" night of arrival.
My only comment, and it is a suggestion and not complaint, is that the ladder up to the loft is a bit unnerving. It is at a very steep angle so easy to climb up but getting back on ladder and down was a careful challenge. It may not be so bad if the ladder was pulled out more at bottom to give more of an angle like a staircase...
One final comment which is a minor complaint (and suggestion): replace the charcoal grill.
In sum, rent this property. I did a lot of research for lodging in Silvergate and Cooke city area and saw the other properties/lodging properties once I got there. This is a must rent--far exceeds other options.

Cabin was very clean, beds were comfortable, and peaceful location. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking dinner each evening. Location is great for exploring Beartooth and Yellowstone.

Pictures show a very nice cabin, but it was even bigger and nicer than I expected. The kitchen was very well appointed, had everything we needed. The owners did not skimp on any amenities, and in fact, supplied the unexpected (shampoo, shower gel). Super clean (thank you, Jessie), super nice, and super owners (easy communication). We really enjoyed the well-stocked movies, books, games, and Max's amazing photography. We had need of nothing. My children didn't want to leave. Beautiful property. My favorite was watching wildlife from the porch. Soda Butte Creek was only about 40 ft from the porch. It runs too fast (early June) to fish, but I would expect good fishing later in the summer. A lone bison grazed every morning next door (we referred to him as Barry). I was really bummed that we never saw a moose in the park, but on our return to the cabin the last night, there was one in the yard! Happy danced again the next morning as we were packing up because we saw a mama moose and her calf across the creek. We would definitely stay here again, and I'm already recommending it to everyone I know😊

Stop your search! If this property is available, book it now. We were thrilled with the location (just a few minutes outside the Yellowstone n/e entrance) and privacy during our stay.
We have stayed in many rental properties and this one rates right at the top, based on location, layout and amenities. We loved the beautiful pinewood interior, spacious cooks kitchen with island, spacious livingroom with vaulted ceilings and comfy seating. The queen bed had nice bear flannel sheets and was very very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, with a step in tub shower. The water pressure was great for showers and as hot as you need it. The full sized stackable front loader washer and dryer are also in this space behind doors.
The wi-fi was fast and we were able to keep in touch with our family at home. Cell phone calls don't work up here but there is a land-line that can be used if necessary. In fact, one of the owners called to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The owners (Max and Jenn) take pride in this property and communication is great!
We drove into the park several times through the Lamar Valley, which is rich in wildlife viewing and very few tourists in the Fall. We saw many bison, elk, fox and pronghorn on our hikes near the Tower/Roosevelt area. Hell Roaring trail was great! There is also a "secret" trail up the road from this rental, which was an absolutely serene, beautiful hike into the park. Loved it all!

We had a wonderful time at Ursa. Max and Jenn are great hosts and it’s so nice that Max calls you the first night of your check in just to make sure everything is ok. It’s a beautiful cabin very well equipped and very comfortable. We actually just spent two days at the creek because we were tired of driving. We really enjoyed the little doe that was living under the porch to stay cool, it’s a great cabin!

A fantastic property with all of the amenities! Just over a mile to the entrance of Yellowstone made it a perfect location for our family

I could go into great detail but to sum it up, this is easily the best host and one of the rare as advertised VRBO rentals we have ever stayed at.
Max goes well above and beyond expectations to make sure you know what you are getting into, what you need, best airport to fly into, routes to take etc etc etc. He communicated with us early and often and seemed to genuinely care that we were prepared so we could have the best stay possible. Silver Gate and Cook City are amazing little communities with surprisingly good eateries. There is a trailhead at the end of the gravel road the property is on. Our best day there we never got in the car. We hit the foot trail that took us into the park for several miles and came out at warm creek about a mile from Silver Gate. That was an amazing journey. We would absolutely recommend this property or the one Max has next door.

Ursa Cabin was great for our stay in Silver Gate. Great location and a super comfortable cabin. Kitchen was super well equipped... great place to stay!.

We have stayed at many VRBO homes in the past and this one does not follow the trend of not living up to the photos. This cabin actually was way better than the photos and descriptions would show. The owners go above and beyond to make sure you have what you need. The appliances and mattresses were top quality (in fact my husband regrets not trying to find out the brand of mattress because he slept so well). We loved the gas fireplace and tankless hot water heater. The kitchen had everything you need to cook and was even stocked coffee, tea, condiments, etc.
I chose the cabin mainly because of the location, which did not disappoint either. We enjoyed coffee on the porch, watching Soda Butte Creek and walking down to the water. One morning a moose and calf were wading by. The towns of Silver Gate and Cooke City were perfect quaint mountain towns to explore. We enjoyed the small businesses and restaurants there, as well as the constantly dominant mountain views. The proximity to the NE Entrance of Yellowstone NP was the real value. It’s our favorite part of the park to visit. We hiked several trails and saw a lot of wildlife (bears, goats, eagles, elk, wolves, etc.). We hated to leave this cabin and location. It was one of the best accommodations and locations we’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

The Ursa cabin is lovely! Everything in it seems brand new and we found it very clean when we arrived. We benefited from the well stocked kitchen (plenty of appliances and kitchen tools). The surrounding woods and creek are beautiful and the access to the NE Entrance of Yellowstone can’t be beat. Already trying to think about when I can get back here for another stay!

We came to see and explore Yellowstone. We were able to do so easily with the location of the cabin so near the Northeast entrance. The cabin was beautiful, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The proximity to the Soda Butte Creek through the property was amazing and the kids loved being able to explore the property and sandbar. The property owners, Max and Jenn, we’re incredibly kind and helpful. They provided information on sites around/ near town. Overall visit was absolutely fantastic.

Wonderful 6 night stay in this beautiful "cabin" nestled in the woods by Soda Butte creek. Such a treat being literally minutes away from our favorite part of YNP...Lamar Valley. Cabin exactly as described but even better when you step in. We love Cooke City and Silver Gate (our third visit to this area plus a few more elsewhere around Yellowstone). Finding Max and Jen's cabin makes it even better. The thought and detail they put into their place is really special. Everything that one would need and more. We really appreciated the awesome photos of nature and whimsical artwork displayed throughout the home. I believe we've found a place that we'd return to with our next visit to YNP.

We have stayed in my VRBO rentals over the years and this cabinet ranks right at the top. It was extremely well equipped and the owners thought of everything you could possibly need. It is in close proximity to the northeast gate of Yellowstone and was the perfect way to enjoy the park and come back to a cozy place to rest up for another day. We had two buffalos hanging out by the cabin which was a joy to see. We highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to visit Yellowstone and still have the amenities of home.

Thanks Jenn & Max for all your updates on the area and gate closure. We enjoyed our stay in your beautiful property. We will definitely stay again when out this way.

Less than a mile from Yellowstone National Park, this lovely modern yet rustic appearing cabin is absolutely beautiful. Best equipped kitchen of any rental I've ever stayed in.

This is a very nice property! Fly fishing in front of the cabin is excellent and close! Very quiet and peaceful area, no traffic. This host has done an excellent job of stocking this cozy cabin, everything you need. Very clean and beds are very comfortable. Host even provided great coupons, thank you! We tried the taco place and it was excellent. We had a very relaxing 3 days.

Perfect in Every Way!
We booked well in advance for our family trip to Yellowstone. Everything was perfect! The communication with owners, cabin amenities, and location could not be beat. I highly recommend this rental. If we head back to Yellowstone, this is the only place we would stay. Perfect!!

Great cabin in the woods
This property is fantastic. A beautiful cabin within one mile of the NE entrance to Yellowstone. Easy access to the Lamar Valley to view grizz and wolves. Will definitely stay here again.
Thanks Max and Jenn

This was a great property. We will come back for sure.
We loved the cabin. The views out of the dinning room to the mountains were incredible. Only one thing to note if you have a 40ft enclosed sled trailer you will have a little difficulty parking it in the driveway. Ultimately we did get parked though. Max was great and checked in with us after we arrived. Thanks Max, we had a great time.

“The Bear”
This was a wonderful cabin for us to stay in .. it was supplied with ALL the amenities one would ever need, super clean & super comfortable. Location is awesome, whether winter time like us but would be fantastic in the spring, summer & fall months. The owner even called the night we arrived to see how everything was and if we needed anything. All in all, 5 ⭐️‘s :)

Great stay!
We were there for a few snowy days, and the cabin was really nice. There are a few other cabins nearby, and the town overall is pretty remote. It gave us amazing access to the northeast entrance of Yellowstone, and everything was new & clean. We’d definitely stay again!

Great stay
Ursa cabin was great! A bison was right at the front porch when we pulled in. Walking distance to cute town of Silver Gate and short drive to Cooke City where there are a few good restaurants (Miners saloon was awesome). Very clean and close to Northeast entrance of Yellowstone. Just be careful of shower mat it is slippery Would highly recommend

Awesome cabin for visiting Yellowstone
This cabin was great for a family of 5. Our kids loved the loft, we loved the open feel of the kitchen and living space. It was very clean and had all the amenities you could want. It was close to the town were we loved renting a scope to watch animals in Lamar Valley. The hosts were awesome and checked in with us during our stay. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful cabin in a charming small town. Ideal location to Northeast entrance and Lamar Valley. Full disclosure, I was disappointed upon the initial drive up to cabin. I was expecting a bit more seclusion. The 2nd property is closer than expected and there is some construction on the other side. But, as we spent all our time within the park this became irrelevant. After 6 days we never heard or saw anybody except a bison on the property.
The interior is beautiful! They’ve done an amazing job on this new cabin. All the basics are provided. Other than food and bear spray we needed to purchase nothing.
Communication with Max was fast, he even phoned upon our arrival to check in with us.
I hope this cabin is available the next time I return to Silvergate.

Perfect, just as described
This was a very cozy cabin just as described. Perfectly located in an area close to YNP and Lamar Valley. 10 moose at one time wasn't in the description, but should be !!!!!!
