About this cottage rental
Originally built in 1937, the Gingerbread Cottage is ideally situated less than a half mile from the Carpenter Street/Highway 1 intersection allowing for easy access to all the sights and attractions on the Monterey Peninsula. The gate in the large privacy fence opens to a stone paver landscaped patio which gets plenty of mid day sun.
Upon entering the home you will find a cozy comfortable living room featuring a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace and a 42 inch flat panel 'smart' television. Or if you prefer to bring along your favorite music, listen on the Bose Wave sound system (CD's) or Bluetooth sound bar. On your right will be the office/den with a desk and a queen size sofa bed if additional sleeping arrangements are needed. This room can become private simply by closing the pocket doors.
The well equipped kitchen features all new stainless steel appliances including a refrigerator with ice maker, a dishwasher, microwave and gas stove. To the right of the bay windowed dining area is the full size washer and dryer and entrance to the second bath and second queen sized bedroom.
Moving past the dining area is a sunroom/sitting area outside the master bedroom which features a king bed. The master bath has a walk-in shower, separate toilet area and a walk in closet.
Virtually all Monterey Peninsula activities and attractions are within 10 minutes from the property conveniently located less than half a mile from the Carpenter Avenue/Highway 1 intersection. Ocean Avenue in Carmel is less than a mile away and within five miles of the home is the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Monterey Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Aquarium, and the Crossroads and Del Monte Shopping Centers. Add a few more miles heading south and you can enjoy many photo opportunities of Big Sur along the way.

We are from Iowa and came to Monterey area to visit our son who is doing his physical therapy clinical at the VA clinic. This was a beautiful place to call home for 4 days. It was perfect!

Enjoyed a week long adventure on the peninsula. Very well equipped and comfortable cottage. Quiet location, close to downtown Carmel, 17 Mile, and Monterrey. Will visit again.

This cottage really is perfect. As many have mentioned, the kitchen has everything you will need for cooking. It is really nice that the pantry is full of all the basic necessities - including coffee! The house has a wonderful layout - there are several places for people to gather - so it is conducive to letting the kids play in one area or watch TV in another while the parents relax and have a cocktail in another sitting area or even outside. It really is minutes to downtown Carmel and super convenient to making a trip to Monterey as well. It is impeccably clean and it has the easiest check-in and check-out process of any VRBO that I have ever rented!

We had a wonderful stay at the Gingerbread Cottage in Carmel. Our host, Bob, had great communication. The space was perfect for my husband, myself, my daughter and a friend. It was a great location for our visit with our son who lives in the area and all that we wanted to do in Monterey and Carmel! The kitchen was well equipped for us to host a few family dinners. We were able to walk to downtown Carmel. Beautiful home and beautiful area.

The cottage was a perfect place for our visit to Carmel. It sits in a quiet neighborhood but yet close to jumping on hwy 1 so you can go to Monterrey or Big Sur. Which we drove to both and enjoyed the scenery this beautiful area has to offer. The cottage had all the amenities we needed. The fireplace was a nice touch and we loved eating outside on the patio. Definitely a place I will book again!

We have stayed here for years and appreciate the location, the attention to details and the cleanliness that is always there. We like reading in front of the fire and the comfort of the bedrooms.

My husband and I rented this cottage for five nights. My cousins joined us for three of the nights. The 2 bedroom/2 bath cottage is decorated nicely. There’s plenty of room for two couples. The kitchen is well equipped. I did purchase an ironing board which I left at the property for future guests since one was not provided. There’s an outdoor patio in front of the cottage with a table and chairs. The driveway is pretty steep but there is enough room for two smaller vehicles. You can also park one right in front of the cottage. We arrived after the 4pm check-in time and the property manager was still there cleaning so we had to wait a few minutes for her to finish outside of the cottage. For the most part, the cottage was very clean, but there were areas in the kitchen and master bath that needed further cleaning which I did. Communication with the owner was great as he responded to all my messages on Vrbo and also we communicated via text. I would definitely rent this cottage again when in Carmel as the location is great and close to everything you’d want to see like Pebble Beach, 17-mile Drive, Monterey, Point Lobos. Besides the great restaurants and shops in Carmel, I’d recommend whale watching and seeing the bagpiper at Pebble Beach, who plays every day at sundown rain or shine.

The property was quite comforbable and we settled in quickly. Kitchen was fullly stocked somhad no problems cooking some meals in. We had trouble with television so gave up on it. We did fine without it just played cards and talked, which is how it was supposed to be. Had a great time and would recommend to others.

We loved our stay here for the AT&T Pebble Beach golf tournament. Perfect location to go to the tourney and spend time in Carmel. We visited Monterey, Santa Cruz, and the beautiful coast. We happened to be there during a huge wind storm and lost power for the entire last day, fortunately, the cottage had a gas fireplace, and lantern that helped us stay warm and see where we were going. Unfortunately, we started a load of wash before the power went out and the door on the washer had a lock on it, power did not come back on before we checked out. Our clothes will hopefully be shipped to us, we left a note but could not get in touch with the property manager, possibly because of the lack of cell service. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we get our clothes!
Would definitely stay here again because the place is wonderful and we have unique memories of our time there!

Great and surprisingly quiet location if you’re looking for easy access to Hwy 1 to Pacific Grove, Big Sur and surrounding areas. Slightly dog-eared but functional in all respects. Comfortable furnishings.

We wanted a cozy place to spend a few quite days with our adult daughter, spending some time in Carmel but mostly traveling up and down HW1 to other locations. This place is outside of town central on a quite street great for walking and getting quickly on the road. The home is beautifully updated with all the amenities and plenty of space and seating areas to spread out. Couldn't have asked for more.

We came to California as a family trip for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were going to be in Yosemite, but wanted to spend a few days by the coast as well. This was such a perfect location! The house is very charming and so well stocked! The area was just amazing- we couldn’t believe how beautiful Carmel is. The house is just a 5 minute drive from the beach and the coastline is gorgeous. We went to Bruno’s Deli and Market a few times for supplies, ate dinner in some wonderful spots and found a delicious French bakery. This was just the perfect place to see so many beautiful things, and the house and gardens were amazing. They even had fresh flowers cut from the garden out for us. We can’t thank the owners enough for opening your home to us!

Four of us, myself, son and 2 bridesmaids stayed at the cottage. It was the perfect size for all of us, plenty of room. Loved the sitting area outside, inside had plenty of amenities. Cute house, loved the fireplace too!

Great home close to everything. The beds are comfy, the water pressure is good, the kitchen is stocked, there’s cable and streaming. The house heats up nicely. The living room is comfy. They had nice options for shampoo and the home was clean and not full of overly scented products which was nice. Carmel was cold, cloudy and rainy during our stay in May, you will want layers and a hat. No sunsets; the sun didn’t shine during our stay. The cold and gray skies have a certain charm. Further south is more sun along Big Sur, and inland is sunny and warm. The coast is absolutely beautiful. The house is close to restaurants and the beach. Thanks for a great stay!

This was our second time staying here. The house fits our family of 5 perfectly and is conveniently located to both Carmel and Monterey.

We had a great time here. There was plenty of space for us and two littles in the Master bed & bath, and grandparents in the other bedroom. Kitchen, Dining and Living layout worked great for all the family meals & hang out. Very nice neighborhood and gardens, walk to beach takes a little longer but enjoyable - no sidewalks so pay attention to little ones. Unfortunately raining our entire stay but had fun anyways.

This property was the perfect choice for our vacation. Bob was very responsive to any questions prior to the stay. The location could not have been better. Both close to the hwy for exploring the area and close enough to town to walk when we had a rental car issue. We talked to some of the neighbors and they were so nice and even gave recommendations. The cottage itself was so cute that the time spent in was as wonderful as time spent out exploring.

This cottage has everything we were looking for! Modern but quaint. The bedrooms were comfortable, beds and pillows comfy. Master bath is dreamy! Separate toilet area from shower/sink. Lots of room for clothing storage in walk-in closet. Everything we needed was available and nice qu. So many sitting options ~ loved the sunroom for morning reading, the dining area or sitting room for work from home. But the living room with the easy on-off fireplace was my favorite for reading & relaxing.
Loved walks through the quiet neighborhood with beautiful architecture, interesting gardens and very friendly neighbors! I walked from town one day, while a short walk, it’s straight up hill ~ but I earned my wine!
Highly recommend, would definitely stay again! Carmel was a beautiful place to visit!

The house has been tastefully remodeled and updated. The two bedrooms and bathroom are very nicely done and the kitchen is excellent. We stayed four days and found the location convenient to walking into Carmel and also only a short drive to downtown Monterey.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was the most comfortable and well appointed rental that we have ever had. The fireplace was particularly welcome. The furnishings are perfect and very comfortable and the kitchen is particularly well equipped. Great location, quiet neighborhood, wonderful place to stay!
We would like to move in permanently!

Larger than advertised cottage in a quiet hidden away neighborhood. Well stocked inside. Beautiful deck and outside spaces. Only desire was a fire pit and/or grill to make the outdoor space more enjoyable!

A very well equipped, charming cottage. We felt at home right away and found it hard to leave. An ideal starting point to explore the Monterey peninsula and Big Sur. And, of course, the attractions of Carmel.

The Carmel Cottage was amazing. We stayed for five days for a family wedding, and it was the perfect setting. Lots of room, great sleeping arrangements, easy kitchen to work with, and the two bathrooms made our stay even easier with wedding prep. The Cottage has such charm and the outdoor area was a lovely place for family to gather. The location is absolutely perfect for access to the beautiful beaches, markets and traveling to places a little further out. Booking, check-in and out was very easy. I highly reccommend the Cottage for a lovely stay in Carmel.

Adorable little cottage in Carmel by the Sea. We communicated with the owner briefly on some questions and suggestions and he was very nice and quick to respond. The house has two nice rooms one with king and the other with a queen. The kitchen is well stocked and worked perfectly for us as we like to go to local markets and cook a few meals on our stay. The walk to town is not too long but it is somewhat steep and there are no sidewalks for part of the walk. We used flashlights walking back the first night and then drove down the rest of our stay. We were there during a warm spell and only one room had a ceiling fan. So we went to the store to buy a floor fan for the second room. There is no AC in the house like most houses in the bay area (soon to change?!) So we kept the windows open as much as possible. Great access to the highway and 17 mile and Pebble beach.
