About this apartment rental
This SECOND STORY condo is situated in the Bywater (NOW EQUIPT WITH CENTRAL AIR AND HEAT) – 2 bedrooms (3 beds), parking off street, and very close to public transportation, actually across the street!
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!!! The unit is near almost everything in New Orleans. It's located on one of New Orleans major streets. (There will be street noise from bus passing)
The trendy, hipster neighborhood that's just five minutes downriver from the French Quarter. Food & Wine Magazine calls the Bywater New Orleans Hottest Neighborhood. Artists and musicians relocated to Bywater when the French Quarter became too pricey. Now joined by professionals and young families, its high elevation has allowed it to thrive post Katrina as it never flooded. The Bywater along with neighboring Faubourg Marigny are historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are two of the most colorful neighborhoods in New Orleans. The Architectural styles borrow heavily from the colonial French and Spanish and have elements of the Caribbean. This unique blending of architectural elements over the last three centuries has resulted in an architectural style unique to the city of New Orleans. There are many incredible restaurants, hip bars, lively pubs and art galleries scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Like Satsuma Cafe & Coffee House – it’s a favorite breakfast and lunch joint featuring some of the freshest and most innovative choices in town – like their sweet potato pancakes – the tattooed and pierced wait staff really know how to cook. Oxalis is a whiskey focused bar that is also an amazing restaurant. Food includes Korean bo ssam (pork belly, mushrooms or shrimp served) and Cajun-spiced buttered rum popcorn. There are also chicken wings, a amazing burger, steak frites and duck confit. In addition to the restaurant there is a great back bar with a fireplace. Elizabeth’s restaurant is very popular for breakfast, lunch and brunch - their praline bacon is a cross between praline candy and salty pork, truly amazing and not to be missed. Mariza is another great restaurant. It's in the Rice Mill Lofts on the corner of Chartres Street & Press Street just a 10 minute walk from our house. It’s a beautiful hip space with an Italian influenced menu - incredibly fresh and delicious.
There is an amazing local pizza place right around the corner from our house called Pizza Delicious. Amazingly great pizza, voted Best in New Orleans for the past several years. Their Peppadew & Arugula Pizza is my favorite. It’s a quick three-block walk from the house. Piety Street Sno-Balls is directly across the street from Pizza Delicious.
It’s an adorable snow cone stand in an old ironworks. They features flavors like kaffir lime, made with citrus from a neighbor’s tree, and Vietnamese coffee, the secret to which is a big can of Café du Monde ground coffee. Plus six flavors of Kleinpeter Ice Cream.
Euclid Records is a vinyl music store with a funky ambiance – it has a huge selection specializing in jazz, soul and New Orleans music. It’s next to Pizza Delicious and across the street from Piety Street Sno-Balls. They also do live music events from time to time.
The Joint is an amazing BBQ restaurant on the Corner of Royal Street & Mazant Street, 7 blocks from our house, an 8 minute walk. Great ribs, chicken and pulled pork. Delicious sides. And the Peanut Butter Pie is hard to resist for dessert. Great homemade iced tea & lemonade and also a full bar. Lots of tables and a bar inside.
Bywater snowballs and snacks are next door. Serving some of the best sandwich wraps, snowballs, nachos, hotdogs, and various other snacks.
The Country Club is an elegant retreat that offers a lushly landscaped saltwater pool, a hot tub & a sauna. Plus an amazing restaurant with two bars (one inside & one outside). It’s the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon – memorable meals, poolside cocktails, poolside dining and the friendliest staff in town. Saints and LSU games are screened on a 25-foot projector at the pool. Saturday brunch features a bottomless mimosa and a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar with 50 ingredients. And it's happy hour any time it rains.
Thursday night in Bywater is the night to go to Vaughan’s Lounge as it is Kermit Ruffins's night. Go early and get some of the barbecue Kermit is often cooking up before a show. Another popular place for dinner and music seven nights a week is Bacchanal, a funky wine shop on Poland Street. Here a cast of rotating chefs turns Bacchanal’s back courtyard into a food destination by showcasing their multicultural cooking. Guests sit at picnic tables and enjoy the great food, fine wine and top-notch live music.
The historic renovation business is also booming in the Bywater. Attracted by the neighborhood’s gorgeous architecture and “high and dry” elevation, many projects are already completed or underway. World-renowned architect Andres Duany recently completed his Bywater Cottages – four newly built, hurricane-resistant houses designed to blend perfectly with the neighborhood. “Ninety percent of Bywater’s architecture is gorgeous and historic; my new Bywater Cottages harmonize perfectly with that centuries-old architecture,” said Duany.
The Bywater Art Lofts were completed in November 2008. This old garment factory has been rethought and reconstructed as 67 live-work loft-style apartments reserved for working artists of all disciplines. The second Saturday of every month is Saint Claude Arts District Night - all of the art galleries in the neighborhood are open from 6PM - Midnight. The Bywater Art Lofts always puts on a great event as do the many other galleries throughout Bywater & Marigny.

The location was in a busy street between 2 businesses. The door had been kicked in at some point so the unit was not locked because the iron door without glass didn’t actually close. A 2x4 was nailed in the inside to try to keep the wooden door closed. I could not get the door to stay locked and the handle fell off. The AC unit was OFF when we arrived so it was 90 degrees in the unit. 2 rooms did not have working lights. We put our food on the table and giant roaches came running out in every room. There was a mound of live termites in the bedroom. We contacted the owner and we left within 2 hours of arriving. We had to find another place to stay at the last minute so we didn’t get to bed until 12:30am. It was a disaster. I do appreciate having our payment refunded.

The house was beautiful, clean, & had plenty of space. The area was really cool very walkable to lots of restaurants, even a cute park, & just a 5-10 minute drive to downtown, the French quarter, & Treme. The host was amazing gave list of great places to eat and visit. We ended up staying an extra day so we could explore more, the host responded immediately to any inquiries. When we come back to New Orleans this will be our home away from home.

Nice apartment but needs some maintenance. The front door looks as if it were kicked in and they fixed it with a two by four. We did not feel safe staying here. Wifi was super slow, couldn't stream movies and only over air TV channels. Property manager was prompt with response to our concerns.

The property was as advertised and the checkin process was clear. Cyrena was a fine host and would recommend this place for anyone in town who wants a convenient location to explore Nola.

Unit is smartly appointed. But has some maintenance needs. HUGE main rooms, small kitchen. Great seafood and bakery near by. Close to Frenchmans St, which is better than Bourbon st.
Overall a good deal.

This shotgun house is so cute! The pictures don’t do it justice. We were able to walk to a bar and a restaurant. City transit right outside our door straight to the French Quarter. Our host was great to communicate with. No excessive or weird rules. Would definitely recommend.

The unit was decorated very nicely and loved the tall ceilings.
Beautiful apartment inside. Nice quiet neighborhood. Bus line conveniently stops right at corner.Twin beds were very comfy, but double bed, a little hard and noisy with plastic protector. Recommend putting thick mattress pad on, and also providing blankets for beds if someone needs them. Also no kitchen towels, and paper towels would have been nice to provide.Silverware drawer bottom needs to be glued together comes apart when you open the drawer) Over all unit was very clean except for the floor, went to bed, took off my socks and they were black.

Great distance from everything we did
Only thing might change is television in common area so people can sit and visit. Internet was not real strong signal especially when have teenager. Would have liked feedback on how the unit was left when we checked out as there wasn't any. Would stay again if travel there in 2023 for the rock n roll run series in March

NOLA
70 years of living in Minnesota, my instinct was to try winterize the doors and windows, then I subconsciously started making fix-it lists. A better locking system would make a person feel safer. Great place, we enjoyed our stay. We spent most our time out on the town.

Okay
First I want to say that our stay in New Orleans was fantastic. The home was spacious and clean. A few things that I feel would be a great addition would be additional blankets (none except for what was on the beds), a toaster, a kettle, new pillows (a definite must), tea towels (you supply bathroom towels but nothing to do dishes with), dish cloth and a baking sheet (there is absolutely nothing to put in the oven to cook anything). We received 3 rolls of toilet paper (that were partial rolls) and told that we were not staying in a hotel so should not expect more. I felt for the price I was paying toilet paper should be included. You are warned about the traffic noise and it is loud but if you aren't a light sleeper it's fine. The location is close to a lot and the bus works well. However, we were warned more than once to be careful of the neighborhood. During the day we felt safe but took cabs at night. Finally, the accommodations worked for us just slightly disappointed with what we received for the cost. This is not my first experience with an airbnb and I had slightly higher expectations. Cyrena responded quickly to questions.

Great Place!
I picked this place for a weekend getaway with friends for my 40th birthday. The house is off a major street in New Orleans...close to quite a lot. We took Ubers to downtown/French Quarter. The apartment is bigger than the pictures and has everything you need. We never made it to Elizabeth's to eat but did go to The Joint and it was amazing! Minus the transfer trucks at night that drove by and shook the house (as is going to happen with older homes...I have one myself) it was quiet at night and we had no trouble sleeping. Air worked great and was nice after a long day of walking in the hot New Orleans weather. Cyrena is a great host and is available quickly for your needs. She even really helped us out when we had a dilemma with our luggage. I would definitely recommend this place. It gives you an authentic NOLA experience!

Good location in Bywater; walking distance to lots of restaurants, dollar stores. Lots more within a 5 minute drive. Plenty of room, nice to have a kitchen and laundry. We had "cruisers" with us first and last nights, we used the time in between to see areas away from NOLA. We usually stay in the French Quarter and walk everywhere.
Neighbors were friendly, and I did not notice the street noise after I fell asleep.

Nice clean space
Nice little up and coming historical neighborhood, 13 minutes from bourbon street by car we ubered everywhere and walked a couple close spots went and had breakfast down at Elizabeth’s which was about a 15 min walk did uber eats overall experience was very nice

Cyrena’s Place
Cyrena’s place looks exactly the same in person as it does on the pictures, however, the place is actually bigger. Everything was clean and spotless. Check in was easy and it was only a 10 minute uber drive to French Quarter / Bourbon, etc. The house does shake sometimes when big trucks drive by but not a problem. I do recommend looking into purchasing softer mattresses for the twin beds because they’re a little hard. But despite that, I still slept well. Cyrena will respond to messages within a few minutes to an hour. I would definitely stay here again!!

Great location for getting to Bourbon Street and events in New Orleans
The property was nice and clean, the heating and cooling worked fine and the beds are comfy. Would use again next time I'm back in New Orleans

Very clean apartment and responsive owner
Location was pretty good although neighbourhood has a long way to go before achieving revitalization.
Amenities met expectations, entrance a bit tricky but issue solved with Cyrena's prompt help. We did not ( but should have) mention to owner the fridge was extremely noisy.
Overall a good stay in comfortable apartment.

Spacious and very clean.
Overall experience was very positive. Relatively well equipped. On a major thoroughfare which is great with a car rental and the dedicated parking spot is a plus. The traffic noise is a bit louder than desired in the morning. Having laundry in the flat was great.

Great price and convenient location
Cyrena was very prompt about responding to messages. A little noisy on the corner but would totally stay here again!

Everything was as advertised
The property was cute and looked just like the pictures. We arrived to the property and for whatever reason there were no keys in the lockbox but we called Cyrena and she had someone to the property with keys in under 5 minutes which was wonderful! What could have been a disaster was made stress free because of a great host. Would book again

Beautiful home that is close to everything!!
I think that I only have 2490 characters to write this review but could go on and on about this great home in a great neighborhood. The home is beautiful with lots of NOLA charm from the woodwork, pocket doors, old time fireplace, iron work and great furnishings. We stayed for three nights and if we hadn't had to leave for a cruise would have stayed a week it was that nice. It states in the description that the home is only 750 sq feet but felt much larger.
We tried many of the local spots that were recommended by Cyrena but especially loved the Joint with local hipster charm and great barbecue. A new restaurant just opened two blocks from the home called Polly's Bywater Cafe which was great for breakfast plus had some great art on the walls. The art scene is alive and well in this neighborhood and was able to catch the Saturday night art show but can't remember the name of gallery.
The home is situated right on a major street so has many options for transportation to the French Quarter. To save a little money we would ride the bus or use the trolley during the day and use Uber/Lyft at night to get back. It always felt safe traveling in this neighborhood. Lots of local stores to buy a few groceries or pick up last minute needed items.
The description of the home is exactly what you get and had no issues with anything in the home. My only complaint is that Cyrena can't control the weather, ha. We had sleet/rain and snow on our first full day which was very light and kind of fun given the area usually does not experience this.
Check in/out was easy plus Cyrena communicates very quickly to emails or questions you might have. I had never used VRBO and she made it simple with her emails and helping me through the process. Would definitely stay here again and would love to come back. The people in this city are amazing.
Thanks again Cryena for sharing your beautiful home with us!!

Great value, clean roomy place and a very responsive owner. Street noise is a little loud.
We had a great long weekend visiting friends nearby. This property is a nice walk or bike ride from the French Quarter. Strolling along the river in Crescent Park or through the picturesque neighborhoods are both quite lovely.
We had a minor issue with the heat not coming on and the owner had it fixed immediately!
My only disappointment is that the house is on a busy road and the trucks driving by shake the house. I'm a light enough sleeper that they woke me repeatedly.

Cute place with all you need!
Loved staying here because of the large rooms and how cute the place is decorated as well as being authentic to that NOLA style with the old fireplace.
It was great that the ac and heater worked so well and the shower head water pressure was great with 3 ladies using that daily (plenty of hot water)! The beds were comfy and the Wifi worked well.
It was easy for the Uber to find us and there are some places to walk to in the area like Satsuma's for coffee and eats.
This upstair duplex is located on St Claude street which makes it accessible but it is a rather loud and busy street even in the night.

Super Cute!!
Great place!! The front bedroom does have a lot of light and sounds at night since it's so close to the road. Eye mask was all I needed since the sounds didn't bother me. Would rent again.

Great House! Great Location!
The house was just as advertised. The space was comfortable and homely. The neighborhood grows on you the longer you stay. The house is off a busy street, so there was a lot of noise. Occasionally, the house did shake from street trafffic, but it was durable. The gate on the front door got stuck, but the back door was an acceptable alternative. There were a few dust bunnies, but nothing to scream about. The amenities were just as advertised. If you stay here be prepared to buy basic essentials (i.e. soap, bottled water, lotion, snacks, etc). Uber cost was reasonable. I didn't pay more than $11, and that was from mid-city. Cyrena was cool and approachable. I called her prior to the trip, and when I arrived. Even though I was a hot mess, 1st time solo traveler, she was very kind, helpful, and patient. She was even kind enough to check on me right before I headed home. I definitely enjoyed my stay here, and wouldn't mind coming back!

Weekend Getaway!
This is a beautiful home. Plenty of room and central to everything. We had so much fun we had to stay another day and Cyrena was able to accommodate our last minute plans. We felt very safe and secure here. My husband, my 19 year old daughter, 18 year old son, and myself stayed. It was perfect. We tried the local eateries that were recommended and found some awesome artwork not far away. Trolley is a few blocks away. We would absolutely stay here again. We loved this charming guest home! Thank you for everything Cyrena!

Expect the bare minimums
Overall the house looks really nice on the inside. Not in the best neighborhood though. There are very limited supplies and household items within. There is a coffeemaker and a microwave, that's it. No blender, toaster or any other kitchen appliances. There is not a single sharp knife or pair of scissors. The owner will only provide 4 rolls of toilet paper and in our case 3.5, we had 4 girls here for 7 days. It didn't last and we had to buy some at the store. Bring your own towels because they are baby towels! It might cover half of your body! The beds are very uncomfortable unless you like very firm with flat pillows. Plan to use an Uber or lyft to go everywhere! It's not very close to much. It does have good air conditioning which was a relief after coming back from 90 degree heat!
