We had a lovely week walking in the Mendips and surrounding area and this was a perfect base. the bedrooms were large and beds very comfortable. It was fabulous having an Aga to come downstairs to in the morning as it made the kitchen warm and welcoming. The sitting room woodburner was easy to light and made that room very cosy too.

The house was clean, spacious and well appointed, and the owners gave us a warm welcome. It is about a mile walk from pubs/eating places but that didn't bother us. Being right next to the Strawberry Line and close to the reservoir, the house is a good base for walking and cycling, and well located for exploring further afield.

What a lovely cottage.
What a lovely cottage. It was absolutely perfect for our 3 generation family holiday. The rooms are all beautifully spacious and beautifully furnished. We weren't particularly keen on Aga cooking, but we got used to it and all was well. Nice garden, good quiet location, good local walks and loads of attractions within easy reach. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone, and we hope to return soon.

It was a bit further out of Cheddar than we thought.
It was a bit further out of Cheddar than we thought. The cottage facilities were good, more than adequate for a large family. Only negatives were the bathroom toilet dripped annoyingly and there was a shortage of plug sockets in the bedrooms.

Lovely spacious cottage, well equipped and large garden.
Lovely spacious cottage, well equipped and large garden. The kitchen had loads of utensils and pots-loved the AGA cooker. Two living areas made it great for larger parties. Bedrooms pretty and good sized. Short drive or easy walk to Cheddar shops and the Gorge, and the reservoir at the end of the road. Would highly recommend visits to Wedmore-quaint shops, lovely café/deli and only a short drive away. Same with Axminster which is also close. Owner there on arrival and very helpful. Had a fabulous dinner at New Inn Axbridge. A well kept house good for all ages of kids/adults-would recommend.

One of the best equipped holiday homes we've stayed in.
One of the best equipped holiday homes we've stayed in. Loads of books, games and DVDs for kids in addition to kids cutlery, plates and bowls.
Only a couple of minor tweaks: a power socket near a mirror in 2 of the adult bedrooms to allow for hair drying etc and the front lock is a bit sticky as I locked myself in a couple of times!

Barrowswood is a very lovely cottage, beautifully clean and nicely presented with a lovely warm welcome form Rachel.
The only reason I have scored an 8 for comfort/equipment is the fact that the sofas are rather past their best for sitting on - very saggy seats, but mainly the pillows are awful and the some of the duvets are also showing signs of needing replacing.
If these things (particularly the bedding, which would be easy) were addressed it would make the cottage perfect.

Barrowswood was perfect for a very special family gathering of seven of us, although the four large bedrooms would be perfect for eight. The cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable with a big garden for the children to play in, or to party outdoors. Excellent location and conveniently situated for local attractions and outings.
