About this cottage rental
Our Windy Dune built after the turn of the century on the sandy North Shore of Grand Haven, Windy Dune is a family summer dwelling, with pictures, candles, and family collections reminiscent of years-gone-by. A large, screened front porch facing the “big lake” is the setting for reading, talking, or just watching the weather change. 100 feet of sugar sandy Lake Michigan beach is the site of boating, swimming, or just hiking to the pier and watching sailboats, yachts, and ocean-going tankers come and go. Directly across the street, the Kitchel/Lindquist and Harold Hartger Dune Preserves chronicle beachscape, which allows for peaceful hikes through pines, over marshes, and across protected sand dunes. North Shore Marina is a 5 minute walk from Windy Dune as is the north pier.

The windy dunes property was exactly as the pictures on the Vrbo site showed. Fantastic location to Lake Michigan. A beautiful, screened in porch to sit read, laugh, and have a dance party if you’re so inclined. Yes, this property is very old but exactly what we were looking for. The bathroom had been updated, that was a very nice surprise. We had seven adults in this house, and everybody had lots of room and we’re happy with the accommodations. No air conditioning but we lucked out and had beautiful weather, windows were open the whole week!

My family loved the beach house! We spent every day at the beach and took the quick drive into town a time or two. The beach was amazing and the house clean and well-appointed. Some of my family struggled with the heat while sleeping (we all knew going in there was no AC) but the rest of us faired perfectly well with the fans provided by the host. We would love to book again in the future!!

Wonderful lake house for the whole family

We loved this old-time rustic cottage! There is a lovely screen porch with a cool breeze from the lake. It was perfect for our young grandchildren since there is a large sandy area right outside of the porch door that was great for them to play. The cottage was very accommodating for our group of 8. There is no air conditioning, so it did get warm during the day, but it did cool off well at night. We were very pleased.

Exactly what was expected. Charming old cottage, comfortable, with nice updated bathrooms. If you're looking for air conditioning, stay in a hotel. Plenty of fans provided which seemed adequate. Kitchen well equipped, beds very comfy. The porch was used more than any other room. Weather was great. Coast Guard Festival added more than enough activities. We even went to the Grand Haven's Farmers Market. Beautiful sunsets and better beach area than most neighbors. Nice walk to the pier. A quiet, peaceful and enjoyable cottage. Just lovely. Thanks to the owners for sharing their home.

The favorite part of our stay at Windy Dune was the beach. We had super access and the size of the beach was better than most along the lakefront. The beds were comfortable and the master bedroom was large enough to put 3 toddler mattresses on the floor. There is no air-conditioning but the weather was very cooperative and the lake breeze through the house was excellent. The kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, and utensils as well as plates, cups, and glasses. The house is very old and it was like stepping back in time. The drawbacks were 1. there was no washer or dryer so we needed to take a trip to the laundromat, 2. the sleeping rooms had no closets but there were a few drawers in the dressers that helped, and 3. if the weather had not been as cool as it was, I believe it may have been very uncomfortable with just fans.
