About this house rental
Nestled down a half mile gravel road you will find a peaceful serene home surrounded by the great outdoors without another house in sight. Conveniently located only 6.8 miles from downtown Charlottesville this charming 3 BR / 3.5 Bath country retreat comes with all the amenities of modern life. There are four wineries within 6.5 miles of the house as well as historic sites such as Monticello & Ash Lawn which are each about 5 minutes away. The house is bright and airy, features all hardwood flooring throughout, a large kitchen, screened in porch and separate outdoor seating area by a babbling fish/frog pond. Below the house is a fire pit surrounded by 8 Adirondack chairs as well as directly accessible walking and horse trails through bordering land which is under conservation easement.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The master is very spacious and bright with a king bed, large, padded headboard and its own full bathroom and tub. The second bedroom features a queen bed and is very bright and airy surrounded by windows . The third bedroom features two twins and both of these bedrooms share a full bath which features fully tiled and glass enclosed shower. Finally, in the walk out basement there full size pull out sofa bed, gaming/poker table, TV, dart board and complete with its own full bathroom with glass enclosed tiled shower. All bathrooms are supplied with salon grade shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, towels and washcloths.
On the main floor there is a TV/sitting room with a large bay window looking over the yard to the woods. Also in the room is a piano and wood burning fireplace with two cozy wingback chairs.
The kitchen is bright and large and well equipped with a large sink, dishwasher, disposal, gas range and an assortment of high quality cookware/knives. For coffee lovers there is Keurig Machine (bring your own k-cups) or a 12 cup Cuisinart percolator. Also provided are a large variety of spices and basic cooking necessities such as sugar, flour, salt, pepper, cooking oils, vinegars, etc. The kitchen has its own breakfast seating area or you can wander out the back door and relax in the screened in porch. The dining room, visible from the kitchen, comfortably seats six, although you could squeeze eight.
Much of the nearby land behind the house is all under conservation easement and you may enjoy taking one of the many walking/horse trails which are quite extensive. There is a full vegetable garden and small orchard on property which I maintain. You can relax in the outdoor seating area by the fish pond to the sounds of babbling water in the background or lounge in comfortable Adirondack chairs under the tall surrounding oak trees while enjoying the fire pit. This is truly a ‘get away’ retreat and you will leave feeling relaxed and recharged!

Great layout for a group . Pretty grounds . Well stocked kitchen and baths. 10-15 minutes to everything. Enjoyed our stay

We highly recommend this home. It is clean; well- maintained; the kitchen is sufficiently equipped for cooking; and the location is far enough away to be peaceful, yet close enough to still enjoy Charlottesville, UVA, wineries, etc... James is a great host we found him to be very attentive to any questions that we had.

Driving the roads to this home and seeing it surrounded by this beautifully landscaped property-I felt as though I was returning home to the lodge. We were charmed by the back screened in deck with the ceiling fan and spent most of our free time there. The homestead was a short drive to all things Charlottesville--historical, shopping, vitaculture, enology, educational excellence--it's all within reach. James has multiple up to date pamphlets about the area. James was so patient and kind with us as and very accommodating as we recovered from some illnesses as well as jet lag (two guests had just flown in from Europe. The rooms were generous sizes and very comfortable beds. The kitchen was immaculate and plenty of high-quality cooking pans. Loved the Lodge cast iron and it fit perfectly with the house. We will be back!

The stay was just what we needed. The location is excellent and the house and grounds are wonderful. It is a very relaxing space and the outdoor space is used well and very thoughtfully designed. A great find!

Comfortable beds, relaxing living room and screen porch, well furnished kitchen. Saw deer and scarlet tanengers. Hiked at Highland, Pres. Monroe home, Blue Ridge Tunnel near Afton, and also Hawksbill on Skyline. Eastwood Winery, Three Notch brewery, and Boar's Head Mill Room all dining highlights.

Beautiful setting yet close enough to Charlottesville if you want to visit. We loved that we were able to access hiking trails!

Enjoyed our weekend away in the house. It was a great fit for our family trip. Beds were comfortable, house was clean and well equipped. Communication with host was great. It was fun to walk around on some of the trails the backed up to the property.
The house was close to a ton of wineries (visit Keswick, Merrie Hill and/or Trump winery: all were great!). I was a little unimpressed with the town of Charlottesville (lots of homeless) but enjoyed eating out at The Whiskey Jar in town.
Id definitely go back to Charlottesville!

We planned a family weekend with eight adults and one infant. This rental was perfect for exploring the Monticello wine trail and all Charlottesville has to offer. In fact, the property was so nice we opted to eat in a couple evenings. James is a thoughtful host…excellent communication and easy checkin/check out. The home is beautiful and well equipped. The property truly feels like a retreat with great outdoor areas. We certainly hope to return soon!

We loved our stay. We felt very comfortable, safe, and it was very clean. Our family enjoyed spending time together on the cozy screened in back porch. James communicated everything we needed before hand and made it super easy to check in. I highly recommend staying here.

We loved our stay at James’ home -a cozy getaway just outside Charlottesville. We stayed with family for UVA graduation weekend - and were greeted with a bottle of wine & a nice note from James. The house was a good size for our extended family (range of ages) and there was plenty of room for all- the primary bed was super comfortable! We looked forward to enjoying the beautiful outdoors but the rain kept us inside. We had a great time playing games and napping on the screened in porch in our down time and eating around the dining table. The only downside for us was making the trip to & from UVA grounds on the curvy roads at night going to & from events The home is a gem and we would certainly stay again given the chance - highly recommend!

Three couples shared this beautiful home with plenty of space & privacy. We especially loved the fire pit in the evenings. The house is close to plenty of wineries and we toured the home of James Monroe. Property host James was very friendly and easy to work with. Hope to stay here again!

We were in Charlottesville for my daughter’s wedding and this property was just what we needed! Guests were myself, my Mom, two grown kids in their 30’s and my 11 yr old grandson. Everyone had a great areas of our own. The beds are incredibly comfortable! The area is so gorgeous with rolling hills and mountains. We were really quite close to many wineries, Monticello and downtown Charlottesville. The property is beautiful and secluded full of nature’s beauty and sounds which we loved. The outdoor spaces are plentiful from the screen porch and deck area to the fire pit (loved it) and pond area. The house is homey and cozy, kitchen stocked well, although we didn’t really cook except for eggs one morning. We had 4 days with many wedding plans but did manage to make it to Keswick Winery (great wines and light fair) and Monticello. I have already said I would love to come back just for a quiet vacation and visit more wineries, hiking and enjoy other things the beautiful area has to offer. James was wonderful and quick to respond if we had questions, a very good host! His home will not disappoint, I highly recommend this beautiful property! Thank you James!

Such a great location, property (love the landscaping!) and house. We had a blast and couldn’t have asked for a better spot.

We loved this property so much. We vacationed with six people (me and my husband and four 19 year olds). Plenty of room for all of us to sit, eat, watch tv, play games around the table, cook, and sit on the screened in porch comfortably. Oftentimes rentals will have plenty of beds but not enough space otherwise to accommodate a large party. This is a wonderful place. It is also extremely clean and well kept. The grounds are gorgeous. The location seems remote, which we wanted, but is an easy (short) drive to town. We would definitely recommend!!

This was the perfect house for a low-key bachelorette weekend. Plenty of space for a group of 6. The house is fully stocked with towels, kitchenware, games, etc.
Wineries, grocery store, coffee shop all within a 20 minute drive.
James is an amazing host, he was available by app or text to ask questions and was quick to reply.
We would love to return!

This property was absolutely perfect! The location is spot-on with local wineries and downtown Charlottesville only a short drive away. We ate out only once because cooking in with the fully-equipped kitchen was wonderful. We took in the outdoors in the screened porch as well as the huge fire pit with 8 chairs! It is so scenic because of the vast acreage and it even has an old barn on site which makes it so authentic. Everyone slept great as the beds were cozy and warm. We played games at the kitchen table then gathered around the indoor real wood-burning fireplace for nightly cocktails. It was a perfect trip and we will be back!!! Thank you James for creating a very worth-it vacation spot!

Wife and I had a great stay! Everything was in order and certainly felt like a long overdue getaway from the hubbub of activity around the DC metro area. Grateful to James for opening up this home to us! We thoroughly loved the secluded location, yet close enough to restaurants and other entertainment in Charlottesville. Thank you!

We had a wonderful experience at this home. It was very clean, inviting and comfortable! The house is charming with historical details yet updated with newer light fixtures and furnishings. There were 6 adults in our party and we all were very comfortable. The kitchen is well supplied and the layout made it easy for multiple people to work together. The area is quiet and yet convenient to Montecello and hiking trails. We highly recommend this home 😊!!

We recently spent a couple of nights ahead of Thanksgiving in this lovely home. Very clean, everything you need, and the screened-in porch overlooking the tree-lined hill in back is a bonus. We bundled up to have coffee there each morning. And the drive up from the main road is well maintained and provides a nice place to walk. All so peaceful. We will be back.

Attended my niece’s wedding at Eastwood Farm and Winery. House was easy to find and close to all our events in Charlottesville. Very roomy house with a great kitchen to fix meals. Rained so we didn’t get to use the fire pit but looked like a great place to spend an evening.
