The Experience: Moonshine Bend is the perfect place to UNPLUG from the daily grind, relax, & breathe the fresh mountain air. A retreat for anglers, bird watchers, animal lovers, and plant enthusiasts. Here, you can hear the creek from every corner of the 2.5-acre property. Come stay at Moonshine Bend to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience with Mother Nature.
What a way, to get away! This beautiful, secluded, and very well-appointed country farmhouse feels like it’s miles from anywhere, when in reality… it’s 8 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway, approximately 20 minutes to Boone, 30 minutes to Blowing Rock, and just a short drive to West Jefferson or Wilkesboro.
Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, this charming farmhouse has over 1000 linear feet of a pristine, state-stocked trout stream, known as Elk Creek, running through the pristine 2.5 acres.
Endless opportunities await you on the farm. Casting your line for that trophy trout, splashing in the swimming holes, hiking, cycling, playing croquet or horseshoes, even catching fireflies at dusk on a summer’s eve.
When you’re ready to venture away from the farm, you’re at the foot of the High Country. To your left, Boone, Blowing Rock, & Banner Elk. To your right, is the charming town of West Jefferson & Wilkesboro. Antiquing, Tweetsie Railroad, ski resorts, horseback riding, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, the original Mast General Store of Valle Crucis, a Tanger Outlet Mall, and Moses Cone Estate are all within a short drive.
When all the activities have worn you out, there’s nothing better than rocking away the time on the porch’s rockers, or perhaps a nap in the hammock by the creek would soothe your soul. This is truly a place to drop out of the hustle & bustle and tune in to nature. Where deep breaths of fresh mountain air clear your mind and relax your body. Come feel this relaxation for yourself!
The Home: Come home to the Farmhouse where you will enjoy three true bedrooms (sleeps six), and 2.5 baths all furnished with high-quality linens. NOTE: ALL BEDROOMS ARE UPSTAIRS.
Cook your favorite meals in the very well-equipped kitchen or outside on the grill.
Enjoy the many amenities such as a cast-iron stove in the family room (turned off in the summer months), whole-house water filtration system, zoned air conditioning and heating, high speed wireless internet, 2 DVD players for the televisions, with approximately 200+ DVDs, games, and puzzles.
Ample parking is provided with easy access. And safety is a priority with new smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.

Wonderful, peaceful location! Kitchen was extremely well stocked with everything you’d need to cook up a feast if that’s what you wanted. House was clean, yard was beautiful! We never even turned the tv on! Plus for us was Elk Creek, the fish were biting! Would definitely recommend!

The setting right next to the stream is breathtaking. We saw an eagle once and kingfishers and other birds regularly. Our stream was filled with trout. Our one disappointment was that the internet access was very limited. This apparently will be changed next month when they are scheduled to get fiber optics. We would stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay very much! Great location! We enjoyed the large DVD selection that was offered, due to not being able to stream from our phones. Our teens had a no phone vacation while at the mountain home, which was a nice reset for them. We enjoyed many of the trails that were fairly local. The kids enjoyed fishing and playing in the creek. The owners were very quick to respond to any questions. The property was immaculate inside and out.

Our stay at Moonshine Bend was a true retreat. The setting was absolutely serene, with the creek nearby providing a soothing soundtrack to our stay. The house itself was wonderfully comfortable, with cozy interiors that made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.
The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare our meals.
One unique aspect of our stay was the extremely limited internet and cell service. Disconnecting was incredibly refreshing. It allowed us to truly unwind and focus on each other and our surroundings without distractions.
Evenings were spent around the beautiful outdoor fireplace, where we shared stories and laughter; it was a perfect way to end each day.
Overall, our stay was exactly what we needed—a peaceful getaway in a comfortable, natural setting. We left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the opportunity to experience such a special place.

It was a well maintained and cleaned. Thoroughly enjoyed the creek in the backyard. Very quiet place . Had everything we needed for the stay. Great instructions and felt right at home.

Had a great time at the house. Cozy and well stocked. Especially enjoyed watching the wildlife and the frolicking otters. Would stay here again!

The location is perfect, sleeping with the river sound was heaven. The home is lovely and has everything needed for a family vacation.

This place was better than I expected. The big creek beside the house was a big hit we fished and the little ones explored and swam. The house was decorated in a farm style and had board games yard games, the bedrooms were comfy. The owners are very easy to talk to if you have any questions and respond right away. We will definitely be back.

This place was awesome! My family and dog absolutely loved it. They decorated the house for Christmas which made us feel right at home. It had everything you need to escape the world for awhile. The kitchen is fully stocked anything you could think of and any info you needed to know was explained perfectly. Having a roaring creek just a few steps away with hammocks, fire-pits, horse shoes, etc. made this the slice of heaven we were looking for this Christmas. I highly recommend!

Fantastic! Our second visit to Moonshine Bend for Thanksgiving and we are already checking availability for next year❣️❣️

Very nice cottage right on Elk Creek. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though the fish weren’t cooperating. Best part: sitting on the patio by the fire in the evenings playing guitar, having a cocktail and a cigar.

We really enjoyed our stay! It was so peaceful listening to the water and looking at it from the deck.
The property was very clean and exceeded our expectations. There were lots of great movies to watch.
The fire chimney and fire pit were really great to use each night. The outdoor decks were very nice.
The scenery and mountains near by were outstanding.
We will definitely be back!

The house is so nice. Beautiful surroundings. Had a wonderful time relaxing by the water and snoozing on the hammock. My husband enjoyed fishing just a few steps from the porch and caught some trout.
The house has everything that you need. Communication with the host was very quick and helpful. Would definitely come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Moonshine Bend and all that the property has to offer. We spent the majority of our time there doing things outside, from spending a bunch of time exploring the creek to playing games in the yard, enjoying our meals and coffee sitting on the porch and roaring fires each night. The outdoor setting is ideal and so relaxing, just hearing the running water in the creek no matter where you are sitting.
Our kids loved the creek so much it was hard to get them out of it. We loved seeing them explore it and have so much fun just being kids. The house is clean and comfortable and had everything we needed to prepare our meals and enjoy our stay. We made great memories and hope to return again.

This house was absolutely beautiful! Very clean, every kitchen item you could think of, tons of DVDs and an amazing location. The creek had several swimming holes deep enough to really get all the way in. We even brought floats and did some fishing.
The only downside was that we were notified the guest toilet upstairs was not working the day before our stay. Not knowing the full layout, we figured it wasn't a big deal to have 2 toilets instead of three especially since it was just 3 of us most of the time.
It did turn out to be a bit inconvenient as it turned out that it meant going down steep stairs with poor lighting for our child (who would be scared to do so in an unfamiliar place) or for my 65 year old father in law. No one came to fix it while we were there, I assume the owners felt is was more of an inconvenience to have the plumber there with us than to be down to 2 toilets.

Absolutely gorgeous property! If you're looking to get away from it all (including cell service and wi-fi) then this is spot for you. We Absolutely loved this place!

The owners made us feel like this beautiful home was our home away from home. The setting along the River is tranquil and peaceful. We were able to fish, explore the river, play family games, nap in the hammock, have fires in the beautiful outdoor fireplace and make s’mores….what more could you want!?! We will definitely be back! Thank you for a memorable relaxing family vacation!

This was my family’s second year staying at Moonshine Bend, and thanks to property upgrades and a stray rooster, we loved it even more this time! I’m not sure how long the stray rooster will be around, but the kids immediately christened him “Bugs” and thoroughly enjoyed simply watching him do chicken things. The pristine creek continues to be our favorite feature of the property and it’s where we spent the majority of our time. I truly hope we’re able to return next year.

Beautiful home with great amenities. Owners respond quickly and are very helpful. Our family made lots of memories.

We enjoyed very much our stay. The house is warm and engaging and very comfortable . The kitchen is fully equipped and the DVD collection is amazing. Renee and Drew, the owners, were very responsive to our questions. The Elk Creek runs by the side and there is a wonderful elephant bamboo groove at its bank. We sat by its side to read and there is a nice spot deep enough for a nice and refreshing bath. All very quiet. We hiked the Moonshine trail everyday. Canela enjoyed the adventure. The trail is a few yards away from the property. We’ll be back.

We all absolutely loved this house and property! The kids had the best time playing in the water, tubing, fishing and making S'mores in the outdoor fireplace. The house had everything you needed plus some. It was clean, spacious and the property was just beautiful. We cannot wait to go back!!

We brought our 2 girls (6 & 8) for a little mountain trip and they loved it. The creek was awesome...they were in it exploring everyday. Lots of fun stuff to do in the area. We went to Grandfather Mountain, Alpine mountain coaster, High Gravity Adventures, and Gem Mining. Mostly we just enjoyed being outside at the house. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us.

The property was beautiful and large with a lot of activities.

We had a wonderful stay. It's a cozy mountain retreat with beautiful views. We caught several fish and the kids loved exploring the stream.
4.9
The house was very clean, in a great location and served all of our needs very nicely. We had one very rainy day, but there were numerous DVDs to keep us entertained. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed and then some. The hosts were responsive. In all, we had a great time! No complaints.

This property was beautiful. The area is secluded and set perfectly next to the creek. The creek has beautiful fishing holes and is well stocked with some great sized trout. I went on this trip to escape the city life for awhile and this property provided the perfect escape. I think I will be making an annual trip. The owners were great to work with and the home was clean and comfortable.

First I would like to compliment our Hosts! They are warm, welcoming and very responsive. And their house is lovely and cozy. It has great amenities (never been in a VRBO with such a well equipped kitchen), and the location was fabulous for us and our fur baby. If you enjoy bird watching, it is amazing - we most enjoyed the belted king fisher who amused us flying up and down the creek each day. Between that, the fishing, the pup swimming in the creek and relaxation - we couldn’t ask for anything more. We had such an enjoyable stay - thank you so much!

Our stay was fantastic. Great communication from the host, lovely home and property along the creek. Great spot for a relaxing family getaway!

Great spot, relaxing. Good hiking trail nearby.

The house is wonderful and so are the owners! We loved our vacation!
4.9
This was a great vacation, house was very clean yard well kept, kids loved the creek!!!
4.9
The house was everything stated in VRBO description. We enjoyed the playing in the creek and hiking the Moonshine Creek Trail. We have stayed in VRBO house's many times, this house/home was the best appointed ever!
4.9
Perfect get-away for us and our 4 kids (6,8,10, & 12)! The home was cozy, grass was maintained, and easy creek access for the kids to play and fish. They caught a fish within 5 minutes of pulling in the driveway. [email protected] is a tubing company that a student started and he picks up at the Food Lion about 15/20 minutes from the house which was convenient! Next time we will bring rafts for kids to use at the creek. Tons of movies to choose from! Great memories made and I didn’t mind not having cell service to escape the hustle and bustle! (There is WiFi if needed)
4.9
This is such a peaceful place to stay. We especially loved being on the deck with the view of the water, sitting in the swings and rockers and eating our meals at the outdoor table. Floating on the tubes we brought in the deep hole out front was great. We enjoyed the fire pit by the creek too. Caught a few smallmouth bass too. We had a great time.
4.9
The listing photos of the creek are what sold me, and it was somehow even better than I’d hoped. My children spent most of their time in the creek and we had little reason to even leave the property. The owners clearly paid attention to every detail in the home and throughout the property. It felt like more like a home than a rental. I’m not even a movie person and even I got sucked into the extensive DVD collection! The owner’s description of the WiFi is accurate; it’s spotty but you ultimately won’t care. There’s a landline for emergencies so I was unconcerned about connectivity. HIGHLY recommend!!!! I can’t wait to come back!
4.9
This place is really special. Being able to walk a few steps off the deck to a great stream is really great.
Having limited Wifi/no cell/no tv "sounds" like modern day torture with 2 children but in reality, it was a much needed break! They have a massive DVD collection with movies you forgot how much you enjoyed and enough wifi to check emails and send texts.
The highlight of the property is the trout stream though. The fishing was good for the summer season but the sounds of the stream were worth the visit! The beds and pillows were great and the fact that the a/c could not go below 72 degrees was not an issue at all. We look forward to returning in the future!
4.9
"We get to stay here!" That is what our sons said as we walked around this lovely mountain home. The property is simply stunning with a cool stream and plenty of space for yard games and just exploring around. It was a bonus that our furry family member was able to stay with us (she enjoyed the stream as much as the humans)! I appreciated that the home was lovely and well maintained but it didn't feel fussy (which is important when traveling with kids). We've talked about trying to find a time to come back to enjoy the leaves...or maybe next summer for the stream again !
4.9
We had a wonderful time at this house on the stream. My main focus was to stay on the water so the grandkids and adults could play in the stream and catch fish and crawdads. It did not disappoint. Due to the fact that we were on the creek we were also down a winding road which took an additional 15 minutes travel time each day in and out. But in the mountains you can’t get any where too quick. The only 2 drawbacks I could think of was the poor if any phone reception and the spotty Wi-Fi. Also, the water pressure in the showers was very low if any other faucet was being used at the same time. All in all we had a great time and made some wonderful memories with the grandkids.
4.9
Great place for kids, couples, or family.
Really neat place! The owners are easy to get up with and friendly. My kids (8 & 6) absolutely loved swimming in the creek. It was a very quite and private place. It’s close to the road but cars are almost non existent. There’s movies every where but no streaming which was a nice change of pace. Rain kept us from having a fire in the evening but there is a good fire pit next to the creek. I caught fish in the creek everyday. If you’re looking for seclusion and you’re own swimming hole in the summer or tranquil creek in the fall this is the place for you. It’s an excellent place to “unplug”, you can still text and google so you’re not entirely off the grid but far enough to pop in a dvd and feel like you’re in the 90’s lol. We will stay here again!
