About this house rental
Located in the middle of the Chester Historic District, this beautiful home is graced with rolling lawns, a rustic creek running through the side yard and views of the mountains. Built in the 1900s, the home has been restored with modern amenities.
Start your day by walking five minutes down the street and having a coffee and a bagel in Old Chester, then take a stroll around the big barn at the end of town and walk along the meadow at the edge of Lake Almanor. Drive your boat south 20 minutes to the public boat launch and go fishing. Take a drive to nearby Lassen Volcanic Park. Upon returning, you can sit back and take in the creek while BBQing dinner and having an evening drink on the side covered porch while gazing at the bubbling creek. Dine either at our outdoor picnic table or in our historic dinning room inside the house which graces the memories of old time Plumas County cattle ranching and Gold Rush days. After dinner, take an evening walk up Lassen Street and admire the old historic homes of yester year while hearing the faint sounds of nearby grazing cattle.
Enjoy the sunsets while and kids play in the side yard and take it all in. Not in the mood to cook, then walk 2 minutes for the best pizza and salad in Northern California or choose from Mexican to Chinese food; a five-minute drive from the house. In a golfing mood, drive 20 minutes over to the West side of Lake Almanor where you can Tea off at several courses. Don’t forget the bikes, there are several bike trails and logging roads around Chester to explore.
This 2177 square-foot home has four bedrooms and two full and one ½ bathrooms. The spacious living room has a sofa bed that sleeps two, as well as a wood stove, a table for playing board and card games, and a large sectional couch. The Chef in the family will love our fully equipped kitchen, the dining table can seat up to 10 guest once the table leaves are put in and some extra chairs are pulled in.
The roomy cowboy master suite has a new king size bed and a new bathroom with a shower. Also located downstairs is a second bathroom, with a shower and an oversized bathtub. Upstairs is a second master bedroom, two smaller ones and a ½ bathroom. When the house is full, eight guest seep in the master and twin beds in four bedrooms and two guest sleep in the pull-out couch in the living room. If anyone can’t sleep, they can hang out in the kitchen dinning room away from all the sleeping guest.
This beautifully appointed home includes an outdoor barbecue, linens, laundry facilities, DVDs, Internet, TV with Netflix and You Tube, books, board games, children’s items, picnic supplies, a wood stove, and lots of other resources to make your stay at Chester memorable and fun and wanting to come back soon.

The house was very spacious and had lots of amenities. The yard was perfect for our dog. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The only negatives we encountered were the mosquitoes, bring lots of mosquito repellent and candles or thermacells. They are massive and numerous beyond count. The heat wave didn’t help, I’m sure the lack of ac at any other time of year wouldn’t be a big deal but it was 100 the days we stayed so we felt it. Also, a WiFi extender would be helpful staying in the back bedroom, wouldn’t be a bad idea to have one in my travel bag for such cases. All in all we loved the house and would highly recommend.

We loved waking up, making a cup of coffee in the beautifully stocked kitchen and heading out on to the front patio to listen to the birds and the sounds of the creek that runs through the front yard. The two downstairs bathrooms are spacious and new, large living room to relax, play games, read and the property is walking distance to Chester and just a short drive to the lake. Also, huge plus, it's a dog friendly spot. We loved staying here. Thank you so much!

We normally try to stay in a rental on Lake Almanor but that wasn't possible with my brother's dog. We really appreciate the owner's (Ted) flexibility on this as other dog-friendly rentals were much father away from Almanor.
The house was on a block close to downtown Chester, so supermarkets like Holiday and restaurants were nearby. We were a little nervous about the RV park across the street but they were quiet and respectful.
The interior of the house was thoughtfully laid out and came with many amenities in the kitchen and bathrooms. Also some very nice remodeling to the bathrooms including 2 shower heads in the master. The couches in the family/living rooms were very comfortable and easy to fall asleep on! Plus it really felt like a cabin with the knotty pine walls and comfy wood stove (which we only used 1 night).
Also enjoyed the back yard with the small running creek and great panoramic view of the sky. So easy to read a book all afternoon in this serene environment!
Lastly, Ted was an ideal host/owner. Very communicative and helpful when needed which was only a couple of times. Ideal VRBO rental overall.

The house is decorated so eclectic with a cozy cabin feel but with tons of space! My husband and I enjoyed the wood burning fireplace the entire weekend! Can't wait to have another weekend getaway here, maybe when the snow is gone!😊

Well-appointed house. Close to lake almanor and lassen park. Wi-fi in the house was quite spotty but could just be the area. Lots of the town is closed down in the winter, obviously not the owner’s fault. Just plan on eating in for the most part. Holiday Market is a good place to stock up. The cabin is the nicest on the street. Across the street is an RV park and the house next door is a bit run down. The neighborhood seemed very safe and locals were all very friendly.

Beautiful, cozy, charming house. Very clean and comfortable. Great for a family gathering. We appreciated how the kitchen is very well-stocked with all kinds of dishes, utensils, cookware, small appliances, etc. The wood stove does a great job of warming up the house.
Host is very courteous and provided lots of good information about the property.
We had a great time and hope to visit again!

Easy to be in touch with owner; quick to reply. Close to Lassen and lots of good hiking spots. House location could have been more. Private but nearby neighbors were quiet

This home was warm, comfortable and perfected located near all the hiking trails we needed for our Thanksgiving stay. It also had a well equipped kitchen so we had no problems making a full Thanksgiving meal - needed to bring a few things from home (likes pie pan) but great communications with the owner ahead of time meant we had all we needed. Although the house is located in the midst of a local Chester neighborhood, our neighbors were all friendly/welcoming and we were just a short walk away from a cafe where we got coffee and pastries then could walk with our dogs to a beautiful open field that stretched for miles along the Feather River to the edge of Lake Almanor. Evenings spent relaxing together with the stove going which warmed the entire house (it was in the 20's and 30's) and catching up on Netflix - perfect. We also joined the town on Black Friday evening to welcome Santa in his red fire truck, which our 12 year old loved. Beds were very comfortable, and owner extremely accommodating. A perfect time!!

We stayed in Chester in early October as a home base for a trip to Lassen with our two kids (5 & 8), along with another family (2 adults and an 8 y/o). The weather was warm during the day and chilly overnight, which was a perfect excuse to use the wood stove for heat in the morning and evening. It provided cozy warmth and the kids loved sitting in front of it and staring into the flames for long periods of time. You would have thought it was a TV with how quiet and still they got.
The kids spent at least an hour each day playing in the stream that cuts through the property, which was another great distraction when we weren’t out hiking.
While you could stay more central to Lassen Park, we were quite happy being only 30-90 minutes away from all of our day trips.
All of the amenities and offerings of the house worked great and we didn’t have any problems. We will definitely consider staying again!
