i always wanted to be immersed in a mid century modern! staying here was a dream from the architecture to the decor. it located for day trips to orlando or tampa as well as fun around town such as the skating rink, downtown, barre classes, starbucks, target, and the lake. thank you providing this memorable opportunity!

The house was absolutely amazing if you are into retro, it is truly a museum. Every detail has been cur.sated. The pool area is gorgeous. When negative is the bamboo in the backyard is so so messy. The pool is usually messy within hours after the pool cleaner.. Do not expect to cook minimal kitchen overall charming place to stay beautiful in Lakeland.

Great stay, lovely 60s vibe, great pool, good location

We thought it would be fun to stay for a few nights in a house that's a time warp, and we were right! Andrew and Rachael ensure that the property is just as it might have been in the 1950's or 1960's. Yes, there are a couple quirks like low shower heads, but the opportunity to experience the authenticity of a house like this is worth it. The three mile walk around Lake Hollingsworth is one of my favorite things in Lakeland, and you can also walk to the hip new chicken place from the house. Rachael was friendly and helpful, and we really enjoyed getting to show the house to my 80-year-old relatives in Lakeland who remember when this style was the new hip thing. Thanks!

We all loved it. It was very unique and amazing. We go to Lakeland yearly for dance competition and can't wait until next year so we can book there again. It was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, cozy, quiet, and comfortable. The yard was huge with many trees which brought in beautiful birds.

Architecture and art from an interesting period of our modern history.

The pics are true in that you will be taken back to mid 20th century. This means that the furniture and decor is great to look at but non functional. The bed mattresses might be a whole 6 inches thick. Left 4 days early because we just couldn't take it any longer. The pool sits under a huge tree and bamboo plants. Trying to keep it clean enough to use was a nonstop job. Pool company had to come 3 days in a row to eliminate the green water. Pool side furniture was dirty and again uncomfortable and ready to fall apart. The dorm size refrigerator was a ridiculous addition to the retro house. Trips to the grocery store every day was a must. Outlets were not handy, had to put coffee maker in dining room. And do not plan to plug anything in with a ground without a 2 prong adapter. The washer needed to be repaired and i will say that the best thing about our visit was the responsiveness of the property manager. She responded to our questions and provided what she was able to in a very timely manner. She displayed a concern and understanding of our disappointments. All in all the only good thing i can say about this property is the fantastic location.

We were excited by the listing as a true mid century modern property. This property exceeded our anticipation! The time and effort that has gone into keeping this as original as possible is amazing. If you enjoy different styles of architecture and a peaceful place to relax, book this property! Thank you to the owners and caretakers for making our stay memorable!!!

We were in town for an event, which would have just been ok. But because we rented this special place, our long weekend was just fabulous. It was clean, fun, cool and so centrally located. We just loved it. We will for sure be back again next year when we return for the same event. Thank you for sharing this special place with us.

It was like stepping back in time!!
I grew up in St. Croix I'm the 70s and I felt like I was walking into my grandparents home.
The whole back of the house being nothing but sliding doors was amazing.
The Decor was breathtaking,
We felt like we were staying in a museum, so many interesting things to look at!
We really enjoyed our stay.
Something's were a little quirky ( trying to make coffee due to the location of the outlets) and the mini fridge.... but we understood that the owner is wanting to maintain that mid century vibe. Also no screen over the pool... but was that a thing in the 60s? I don't think so.
So as long as you understand that you are staying in a home that truly is mid century you will LOVE it. We did, we would definitely stay again and tell others to do the same.

As a return guest, our visit reinforced our love for this property. It is a secluded oasis away from the hub-bub of the busy end of Lakeland and within walking of the wonderful Lake Hollingsworth. Most of all, the experience of the fabulous classic contemporary design of house and furnishings. The pool is so tranquil even if one is just sitting enjoying the ambiance. This is our definite go-to stay when in Lakeland.

What a well preserved example of Mid-Century modern. Floor to ceiling windows that opened to the beautiful tree’s and heated pool. Lakeland was a perfect and walkable neighborhood.

When we saw the house on VRBO we knew we had to stay there as we’re big mid century modern fans. The house exceeded our expectations! It was well maintained while perfectly keeping the original style. The furniture and details in the house were exquisite. The pool was a nice bonus- it was kind of cool and windy when we were there but the pool was heated and we were able to spend every afternoon swimming and enjoying the pool. To prepare other travelers - the shower heads in the bathrooms are very low. Otherwise the house was amazing and we wish we could’ve stayed longer! And the homeowners were really nice.

This was a really neat property to stay in. The attention to detail was not missed. Everything seemed appropriate to the era. It was like walking into a 1970's interior decorating museum. We loved the quirkiness of the appliances. The property manager was very accessible and helpful. I would definitely stay there again. I would highly recommend a walk around the lake. There is stunning architecture to enjoy along with the views of the lake itself.

The house is a hidden gem. From the street it’s nondescript but inside it has a Mad Men feel and the floor to ceiling windows let the morning light wake you. It’s nice and the neighborhood is great too. Love the location. The property manager was attentive to all of our questions/requests and we had a great experience. The pool was a welcome respite on a hot day.

We stayed here for a month. The modern retro home was pretty interesting. The pool very nice when it was clean. Cleaning service only came 3 time on the 4 weeks we were there. The lawn service only came twice. The property needs a lot of TLC to say the least. There is no full size fridge. The showers are designed for really short people. There is no instructions for the home.(wi fi password, when garage comes, when lawn and pool is serviced etc..) The koi pond was dirty and not really a koi pond. A lot of Cuban frogs very noisy at night. The beds were very uncomfortable. The stove top did not work for the first 4 days we were there. The beds were not completely made when we arrived. The neighborhood was vey quiet. Would not recommend staying here for more than a weekend not children friendly. One last thing the bedrooms are back to back. So no privacy.

The property is just as the listing states. It’s a chance to travel back in time with the decor and style of the home. The pool area is definitely a source of enjoyment.

The location is perfect , the pool is GREAT.
Racheal was fantastic. The house was not what I expected.
Cupboards full of old dishes and such. If you plan on cooking not your best choice. Very old appliances. Toasters broke. Coffee pot broke. Frig broke. Beds not very comfortable. couch not comfortable . But it was neat to see all the old stuff.

What a cool house. The commitment to a Retro / Mid-Century modern home is complete. If you are looking for a true 1957 flashback, this Retro gem is for you. Everything in the house is period authentic, even down to the dinnerware and glassware...and the dishwasher. Great communication, easy check-in and great location.

Enjoyed the art and location of the home. The outdoor space is my favorite. Very enjoyable and plenty of room to relax. We loved our stay.

There were roaches in the house. Live. Not dead.
Then there was a roach on the kitchen counter in my food. The pool was not clean and I could use the pool. I had to pay all of these additional fees for the pool, cleaning and safety of their home. I left that night and did not go back.

Lovely, well kept home in a quiet neighborhood. We really enjoyed the heated pool and the home was exactly as described.

A weekend with some friends from out of state, this was a perfect quiet retreat right in the middle of town. The architecture is unique and very retro mid century modern. All of the décor and furnishings are period correct for the time of construction for this home. It's a nice visit to the past, while ammentities are still up to today.

This house and location was perfect for my family. We were in town visiting my son who attends Florida Southern College. The college is about 5mins away. The house was very comfortable and we loved the mid century nostalgic roots. There was plenty of room for 5. The pool was a nice treat and can be heated when cool outside. The property manager was very attentive and was available if needed. The location was great. The lake is just a walk away and many attractions that Florida has to offer (beach, parks, amusement parks) are 90 mins or less. This was a great experience and thanks for sharing your home.

We stayed at this beautiful retro home for the Sun and Fun airshow at Lakeland, Fl. It is just as pictured! Fridge situation was a little disappointing but the 2 smaller fridges kept the drinks cold. Thank you for the book on Retro Living too!

It was such a privilege to get to stay in an historic Mark Hampton home...it felt like I had stepped back in time & I didn't want to leave! The morning sun shining in was my favorite time of the day. Thanks to Andrew for sharing this experience w/the rest of us!

had a quick weekend getaway at the house and it was everything I had hoped. pool was the perfect temp and just lovely & private. furnishing and interior are so cool and unique. there are quirky things about the house but - for me - that adds to its charm. communication with the owner and the local contact was very fast and friendly. look forward to staying there again!

This house is so lovely in every way! We felt like we had traveled back in time each time we stepped through the door. If you are a fan of the mid-century modern / 1950's aesthetic, you will LOVE your stay here. The authentic decor was amazing down to the smallest details and the location is perfect - close to all the best restaurants in downtown Lakeland and you can walk along the lake just blocks away. Marvelous! Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

This was so peaceful and such a great experience. It felt like we were on our own little island. The only thing I would suggest is if you’re a light sleeper to bring earplugs because the frogs like to sing at night on the little pond.

This property was so perfect for our weekend in Lakeland to celebrate my husband's birthday. The history and decor is just the beginning. The pool was the perfect temperature, shaded and the ideal place to hang out in the Florida heat. There were so many fun and unique things to discover about this house. The proximity to what Lakeland has to offer was unbeatable, too. It was max 12 minutes away from anywhere we wanted to go. The check-in process was a breeze, communication was flawless and we simply cannot wait to stay here again (for even longer)!
