We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. You do have to traverse very windy roads to get to it. I overlooked the fact that the cabin didn't have A/C, however, once we opened the windows and found a couple of fans, it was very pleasant. Especially after a thunderstorm rolled through! When we arrived the hot tub was found empty. The property owner was swift to respond and fix the issue, even while being deployed with the US military! The kitchen is very small but adequate. We didn't come to the mountains to spend a lot of time cooking so it worked just fine for us! Comfortable beds and I love places that provide linens and towels! Although we had several, one highlight of the trip was a fireworks show put on by a nearby neighbor, while we were sitting in the hot tub on July 4th! Felt like a personal show!

We arrived after a terrible drive up. The road was under major construction and we had to use 4 wheel drive to get there. Once we arrived, we realized there was no AC and several window screens were torn or bent and you would not be able to open windows. The house must not have had anyone there lately because there were insect or rodent droppings and a bad musty smell in the house. We looked around and tried contacting the owner with no luck even up to today I have not heard back from her. We never unpacked our truck and had to resort to finding another place to stay. I texted and emailed the owner and as of today, still have gotten no response. I have stayed at many VRBO's over the last 10 or more years and this is the only one I was unable to stay. Unfortunately this did not work out for us.

Loved it

We had 2 families staying in the house. 10 total with 2-5 and under and 4 teens/preteens. The house is set up with 3 floors so the teens had their own hangout downstairs with the only TV which they loved. We actually enjoyed not having a TV upstairs because it was quiet and relaxing. The drive up is interesting but not that hard
...definitely glad we drove the truck tho. It was a nice location, close enough to town but far enough out you didnt feel like you were in it. It was a great trip and we made lots of memories. Cant wait to come back.

My husband and I stayed here with our 2 kids, my sister and her 2 kids, and my mom and dad. There was plenty of room for us all. The cabin had everything we needed for our stay. Check in was easy and the check out instructions were very clear and easy to take care of. The hot tub was amazing after the cold days of being in town sledding and skiing. The board games were great and kept the kids entertained. We really enjoyed our stay and look foward to visiting again.

Really peaceful weekend before Thanksgiving in the mountains. My family and my cousins family met there. Otter Falls, hike, grandfather mountain, and the grandfather Mountain winery are within a 25 minute drive for the most part. The cabin itself has pretty spacious bedrooms but the kitchen is painfully small. There is basically one of every cooking tool, like one mixing bowl, one baking sheet, etc. I thankfully brought my crockpot so it was fine. I definitely recommend buying groceries and anything you think you might need before getting to the cabin because it is a pain to drive back out to the grocery store and there’s no good grocery store around just Dollar General. The drive up the mountain to the house is really sketchy because it’s under construction and it’s mostly just a dirt/gravel road and we were in a regular 2WD van. If it had been raining/snowing, I don’t know if we would’ve made it. But it turns back into pavement a little bit before you get to the house so we had brought the kids bikes and they had fun going up and down the hills. Also, the property is a pretty steep incline for those with small kids that might need direct supervision. But our older kids (7-11) loved playing in the forest and exploring. The cabin had a lot of board games and puzzles that the kids found entertaining and fun, they played Clue about 100 times. The hot tub was my favorite part. Very clean and a nice way to end the day. The overall space was clean and well kept.

The host sent a message saying that she would send the check-in information the weekend before. About an hour out from our arrival (after 9 pm) we had not received the information and messaged her.
She messaged back with a very long list of rules that mentioned how clean they keep the cabin and fees for leaving it dirty, so I was expecting a clean cabin.
There were no lights on when we arrived, and we had to find our way in the dark. Upon opening the door, we were hit with a strong smell of animal urine throughout the cabin.
The dining room table and floor were covered in something sticky and filthy. A dead bug was in the middle of the table, and our shoes and bags stuck to the table and floor.
The basement furniture was ripped, torn, and dirty. The lights were missing the covers, and it also smelled down there.
The living room couch was covered in a cheap cover to hide the dirt, and the chair was filthy. All of the furniture looks like it was picked up and used from a dump.
The upstairs carpet was covered in dark stains and smelled. There was thick mold in the shower.
The stairs and bottom of the dishwasher were black from filth.
There is no AC, which was expected, but we could only open one window because they were all either nailed shut, missing screens, or too full of dead bugs and dirt to open.
The host said she said she would call the cleaners and instructed me to also. This was not my responsibility. We checked out early & rented another cabin.

The cabin was cute and as described. It was a nice place to gather family for an event at Valle Crusis.

July 4th Weekend Get Away
Great cabin, off the beaten bath. Very quiet retreat for a relaxing 4th of July weekend. A wonderful time sitting on the front porch talking and enjoying the cool mountain breeze. Slept great with windows open in July. There is only 1 TV in the house but we were not there to do something that you can do at home.

Cabin was great. Super super cozy. Easy communication. Everything you need to cook and so many towels. Hot tub was broken which was a bummer. She said the part needed to fix it might come in on a Friday but we wouldn’t be at the cabin that day for someone to come work on it and they didn’t work on weekends. Poor timing I guess. I would go back for sure.

Booked the trip. Several days before we were expected to arrive the owner notified us that the hot tub was broken. They stated that they would try to get it fixed prior to our arrival. I emphasized that having a hot tub is very important for us. Two days before our arrival the owner stated that the hot tub wouldn’t be fixed. We pleaded with the owner to let us cancel so that we could quickly try to find something else with a hot tub. They stated that the Best they would do but refund half of our money paid. Essentially, we would be out half of that money and still have to pay for another place. Very not fair. Then the owners solution was to offer us a $50 refund. The thing is it’s not our fault that their hot tub is broken and if we’re paying nearly $200 a night to stay somewhere we deserve to have the amenities advertised. There is no recourse through VRBO. We bit the bullet and went. Oh well.
We ended up leaving a day early. You are responsible for trash disposal. we made sure to pack up the trash to bring to the dump, the problem was the dump is closed so we ended up trucking the garbage back with us to our home state. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade I suppose.

Differently need 4x4 to get to the cabin but the drive there is beautiful with the creek running down the hillside, kitchen was small but functional 😃

We had a much needed 3 night break at Lani’s cabin near Banner Elk and Valle Crucis. You will be as socially distanced as you want up here, but side trips for us included Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock and the iconic Mast General Store.
The hot tub will melt your troubles away.

The cabin offers a bedroom on each level so everyone has their privacy, plus nice open area with fireplace and large table to hang out near the kitchen. Two porches, one with a hot tub and the other with views of the field in the center of this cozy mountain top development with a distant Mountain View. The road to get there is steep in parts but once you’ve done it a couple times it’s really not as far as it seemed at first. This home worked perfectly for four of us.

Dirty and not maintained
When we drive up to the property the grass was extremely high and there was trash all alongside the house. We immediately told the owner but she has since continued to blame us for the trash being there. We walked in to couches with stains and holes, linens that were too small for the beds, a broken shower door, piles of bugs under the beds upstairs. It was filthy. Even two neighbors came walking by and were asking about the lawn as they had seen snakes and the grass was so high our dogs could not even go to the restroom there. We spent the first day cleaning so we could enjoy the week with our kids. I am very unhappy with this cabin and will not be returning back. We love Banner Elk and visit often but will be finding a new place to stay.

Great weekend to escape COVID-19
The place was really cozy. Working with the owner was great. It was a little warm without AC but the fans helped. Would definitely suggested High Mountain Expeditions if you want to go tubing.

Overnight Ski Trip
Thanks so much for sharing your cabin! It was perfect even if we were there for such a short time. It was very remote, but it offered everything that we needed. The beds were warm and comfy. The kitchen had everything I needed to make a big spaghetti dinner. The fireplace made for a nice ambiance and the hot tub felt great after 8 hours of skiing. Lani was easy to deal with and the communication was great. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again. Thank you!!
