About this house rental
Jackalope Acres, our family mountain/forest home, awaits you only 15 minutes from Mt. Lassen National Park in the heart of some the most gorgeous, unspoiled hiking and fishing country in California--or the world! Read our 5 Star Reviews!
Stunning 5-bedroom, 4-bath log house on 20 acres of forest and meadowland, in mountains near Mt. Lassen National Park--and multiple other amazing destinations.
The property is set at 4200 feet elevation with nearly a half mile of historic North Battle Creek running through the backyard, restored to sylvan condition and populated by brown and rainbow trout, some up to one pound.
Jackalope Acres isn't just a place to stay--it's a place to create memories! A family resort! Or a couples get away! With amenities available nowhere else in the area.
Our custom Alaskan cedar hot tub, sunken into the large wrap around deck, is the perfect place to start the day watching the song birds and hummingbirds at the feeders or end it with a cocktail or a glass of wine. We also have a large sunken firepit perfect for the cool evening weather.
North Battle Creek is an incredible fishing experience with curves, riffles, deep pools and a substantial trout population. Catch and release. Barbless hooks! Try a large green woolie bugger or match the hatch when the insects are coming up in the warm weather.
Jackalope Acres has extensive trails throughout the grounds for walking, (and in winter) snow shoeing, or cross country skiing. There are multiple evergreen species, black oak, plus meadows with native grasses and flowers.
You'll see deer, foxes, dove, quail, blue heron, hawks, and even wild turkeys. Bring a basket and enjoy a picnic at the tables by creek.
Use our canoe or our kayaks at no additional charge on nearby Lake McCumber, also known for it's bald eagles, and osprey. Fishing isn't the reason to go there, but if you do want to try go the area to try is the only deep part of the lake in front of the dam.
Play croquet, badminton ,or volley ball on the grass lawn. Throw horseshoes in the firepit. Or throw the footballs, frisbees, or play catch with our balls and gloves. We have all those for you. One man's and one woman's mountain bike--and miles of roads. World class indoor outdoor ping pong table!
In winter, we have 4 sets of snow shoes for use at the acres or for Mt Lassen Park. There is a sledding hill on the property kids love. Or take our sleds up to Eskimo Hill where the locals go! Or just watch the leaves and the snow fall from the hot tub! In addition, we are 90 minutes from Mt. Shasta winter downhill skiing and snowboarding!
We love dogs and are willing to accommodate them. There is an additional $100 fee per dog as well as some doggie house rules. If you decide to book that is all explained in the rental agreement. NO EXCEPTIONS on the dog rates!
Bedrooms include two master suites, one in main house and the second in a gorgeous open loft, each with individual attached baths. Main house has 2 additional upstairs bedrooms (one with additional loft bed) and shared bath. Downstairs bedroom has its own hall bath. Perfect for 5 individuals or 5 couples, but with additional futon sofas in master suites, the house can sleep 16.

Cook gourmet meals in our fully equipped kitchen with quartz counter tops and state-of-the-art appliances. Six-burner cast iron gas stove, conventional, convection and microwave ovens, Cusinart, blender, coffee maker, ice cream maker, and extra refrigerator and freezer in garage. We provide the spices, condiments, napkins, paper towels, etc!

This incredible, one of a kind estate is only 15 minutes from Mt. Lassen National Volcanic Park, an untrafficked jewel for both winter and summer.

Jackolope Acres is also only 30 miles from world famous trout fishery Hat Creek.
Dozens of other world class rivers, streams, lakes, and state parks are all within 1 hour or less. World class private fishing booking are available through Fly Shop in Redding.
The house is also only 1/2 hour from the Manton Valley winery district with small wineries, a wide range of varietals and friendly, vintner staffed tasting rooms.
Great local burgers and a good deli are also available nearby.
The area is unspoiled, uncrowded, and free from the traffic and people jams of so many other California “outdoor” destinations such as Yosemite or Lake Tahoe.

We had great time at this cabin. House is quite large, clean and well maintained. We enjoyed privacy of 20 acres. It snowed heavily on Saturday and turned property into winter wonderland! Would gladly return next year!

We are 9 former backpackers who now get together every year for hiking and eating. This house is the best we have been to for a big group. Beautiful, spacious, well equipped and well situated for hiking excursions!

Three generations stayed over a long weekend at this property and had a wonderful time! The owner and property managers were very accessible. There was plenty of space inside the home for everyone. Our kids fished in the stream, made s'mores in the fire pit, and just ran around the grounds exploring. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked. We will definitely keep this property in mind for future travels! Thank you, Jon, for opening your home to us so we could spend time making memories.

My sister and I brought our husbands and 6 teenagers (ages 16-20) for a wonderful stay at this gorgeous house. Our kids were very impressed at the size and amenities, and my sister and I enjoyed the cozy ease of entertaining. There were some issues with the heating which the owners took care of quickly. This is a very well appointed house - we hope to return!

The house was every bit as lovely as the photos! (Unusual, I know.) I would absolutely recommend this home for your stay near Lassen Volcanic National Park. Very easy access and lovely home with lots of amenities.

This is a great house with a wonderful (freezing) creek on the property. The nearby lake is a little murky so we drove over to lake Manzanita in Lassen Park a couple of times to go swimming and walk around the lake. It's a 25 minute drive.

If we could give this property 10 stars we would. What an amazing, private, peaceful, serene location! Our family of 9, including 4 year old and 18 year old granddaughters and 3 dogs spent 8 days here. We relaxed, took jacuzzi’s every night, played volleyball, cooked and fished right in the backyard. Son caught several 2 LB rainbow trout! The house included every possible amenity and the weather was in the mid 80’s, so perfect for August. Also, perfect separation of space for 4 couples. It is remote and quiet with no traffic anywhere, but so close to Mt. Lassen, hiking, boating, etc. Owner and host were awesome to deal with. Thanks again, we will be back!!!

Amazing well stocked property, this place has it all!
The property lived up to the owners promises. The unit was very well stocked with all the cooking supplies, condiments, spices etc. you could need. Along with a six burner stove and dual ovens, the property features a new weber gas grill we made good use of. They also have a fabulous hot tub, fire pit and game room. We enjoyed all of the amenities. The house itself is spacious and the property beautiful. We loved walking the dogs down to the creek and there was plenty of yard space for my daughter to practice volleyball. All told this is a wonderful getaway property for family and friends that lives up and exceeds expectations!

We enjoyed the stream a lot, for playing and fishing. The kids loved watching Skeet plant fish!
There was plenty to do, even if it was just relaxing on the deck, for all ages.

Amazing retreat!
We loved our time at Jackalope Acres! We were especially impressed and grateful for the attention paid to details that made our visit especially fun.
There is so much to do, Kayaking, Snow activities (when there is snow around), exploring the 20 acre property, fishing etc. We had actually planned to visit places around the cabin. But after arriving there, we pretty much decided to spend most of the time at the property.

4 Generations Family Vacation
Jackalope Acres was a perfect place for our family ranging from 3 years to 85 years! There’s lots of room to spread out and plenty to do. The kids & adults loved the snow hill right on the property for sledding, roasting marshmallows at the outdoor fire pit, warming up in the hot tub, and playing lots of games. We explored the property with the beautiful creek running through and we’re delighted with special surprises like homemade teepees and special sitting areas. The owner & manager were great to work with and very attentive. Definitely a 5 star experience!

Wonderful Celebration of Life
We had an incredible time at Jackalope Acres. A dear friend passed away last year, so we gathered for the first time to really celebrate and mourn him. This was the perfect place to do it. It accommodated everyone so comfortably, it was a beautiful space to be in, it offered indoor and outdoor entertainment to keep us occupied, it was so well stocked with all of the essentials and more, the hot tub is the best hot tub I’ve ever been in and I’ll think of it for the rest of my life. Everyone thanked me profusely for finding such a beautiful spot to celebrate, and called it the “cabin mansion.” They had literally everything we needed, from firewood to condiments to croquet to towels to beautiful lights in the forest. The creek running through the property is a huge bonus, and overall the whole place was so beautiful. It was wonderful being able to have dogs there, although the fence along the perimeter is not one that will keep dogs in, so any dog that can’t be trusted to roam free should stay on an extension leash.
Communication with John and the property manager Skeet was always very easy; they were quick to respond, knowledgeable and always very kind. The beds and couches are comfortable, the bathrooms are amazing —one even has a claw foot tub!— and honestly, I couldn’t have picked a better place for us to spend the weekend.
Thank you, thank you Jackalope Acres!

Family Reunion Perfection!!!
The property had everything for a family reunion....a creek with fishing, horseshoes, ping pong, privacy, gourmet kitchen and a beautiful house. The owner also made a special effort to make sure we were comfortable during the record heat which was much appreciated! We will return!!!

An outstanding place in Lassen woods
This is the one of the few places I would love to stay again at. Beyond what you can read in the listing, it has a vibe! It is cozy and welcoming, you can find here numerous touches, that show how the owner cares about the house and about the comfort of guests.
Speaking of amenities, it offers way more than you can do within a few days. Few things we have enjoyed the most is a wooden hot tub, a deck where you can enjoy the warm summer evening, a lawn where you can put a volleyball net, a large backyard with a fire pit and a creek.
It was just a perfect stay for us there!

Our sencond stay at this wonderful house!
We rented this property a couple years back on the occasion of my birthday and we always knew that we wanted to come back. When we saw that there were still a couple dates open in the calendar - we snatched them up, and do not regret it. The house is super comfortable and we enjoyed taking the kayaks out on the lake, the proximity of Lassen National park; chatting on the deck, in the cedar hot tub or near the fire pit under the starry sky; reading on the bench next to the babbling creek. We hope to be back!

This place was the ideal location to relax, hear the wind going through the trees, take a power nap in the sun and the beautiful lawn and go for a morning stroll with a cuppa coffee. We will definitely be back!!! The house is also fantastic and the kitchen stove is really fun to cook with. But the deck with hot tub and the lawn and the Forest with Creek behind it is what really made this a perfect vacation.

By far the best stay!! Pictures do not do this place justice! Amazingly beautiful, place comes with basically a book that answers any questions you could possibly have for your stay! So many little details covered, has everything you could need! I had the most fabulous 50th bday weekend with 10 family members and 4 friends, all agreed it was a weekend of awesomeness! We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, the game room, the kitchen, the fireplace, the outdoor fireplace! Best of all warm weather on friday, and woke up to a winter wonderland on Saturday, gorgeous! Can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much for sharing your home, we loved it!!

Jackalope Acres was amazing. I went up with my large family – we're talking adults, teens, kids, a baby and multiple dogs. The cabin was spacious for everyone and kept us all well entertained. We never left the property because there was so much to do! Ping pong, hot tub, games and, of course, the beauty outside throughout the property. We were lucky enough to get a fresh layer of snow the night of arrival so the weekend was just magical. The cabin was immaculate upon arrival and the check out instructions were super easy to follow. It was truly the perfect pandemic getaway from the city. Thank you to John, Isabel and Erik for sharing this beautiful place with us!
