The house is in a sad condition, every fixture is either corroded or rusted beyond repair. This house has 4.5 bathrooms, and every single shower is moldy and dirty and stained to the point where we all ended up using the same least dirty shower the whole entire time. We were very heartbroken to find that the pictures on VRBO where taken from a time where the house was in better shape, the shaded area on the deck off of the king size bedroom no longer exists, the same as thatched roof shaded area at the bottom of the property is no longer there so there was minimal shade in 38 C weather. The pool was dirty and not just surface dirty, it looks like it has never been vacuumed or had the filter clean for a very long time. The pool chairs and pool furniture were broken and dirty to the point that couldn't be used at all. The little amenities promised were not available on the property, volleyball, floaties, there was no way to listen to music at the house, the internet would not work past dinner time, so no Netflix or watching any TV. The house has a terrible smell of humidity, I understand the location makes it difficult to control but we visited other places that didn't smell like that.
We had to make the best of our holiday given the condition of the house but this house should not be listed, by the owner's admission he doesn't visit it often, maybe once a year and it shows.

We booked this property for a 3 week family holiday. Arrived to find an absolute disaster. Someone has definitely been squatting there. SO dirty I didn’t even want to sit on anything, let alone sleep in a bed. Mould on the walls, the ceiling is peeling off, holes in the wall, stains/body fluids on the living room furniture, broken furniture, you can smell the mould everywhere. I will say that the owner and VRBO were amazing and refunded my $ right away. I was shocked to see it still available as a rental tho and this is why I am writing this review. It needs a lot of repairs inside and out. There is no palapa for shade and the kayaks are broken as well as all the lounge chairs. Just a warning that it will take something to get this property liveable again. VRBO needs to check this out further but if you really want to stay here I would ask for photo proof of the repairs and cleanliness first.

Total scam
We book this property in December 2021. The smell of humidity was really strong. We went to other rooms to open the windows and what we found was unbelievable. There was a sofa in one of the bedrooms that was son dirty it looked like animals had been sleeping there. The bed sheets were old and dirty. Some had stains.
The bathrooms were dirty and in poor condition as was the whole house.
The worst, one of the beds had dead cockroaches on the pillows. That was the last straw.
We called Vrbo and after talking to 5 agents and repeating the same story over and over we got reimbursed.
This house should be removed from your platform. This house is not apt to live in.

Very spacious house but cleanliness could be better
Our family of 14 gathered at Omar house and had a good time over there, the house is very spacious and even fit another 4 ppl for two nights, kitchen is very well equipped and we were able to cook multiple meals over there
PROS:
Location just a block away from grocery stores and restaurants to get good food if you are not in the mood for cooking, beach front and pool that was very handy to keep the kids busy during the day, kayak and paddle board was a super plus that have the oldest ones entertained, tons of towels to be using during the day and the fact that there is a washer and dryer give us the ability to have fresh ones everyday, also life jackets were available to keep everybody safe at the water.
CONS:
It seemed the house has not been occupied for a long time and it was not very clean when we arrived with a lot of signs of humidity on the bathrooms and lower room, we arrived in a rainy night and the two rooms at the 1st flood had water coming into the windows, we call the admin who was supposed to put silicon on the windows but that did not happen and we ended up having water ingress again the next day and drying the floors to keep it clean, the room on the 1st floor has also a deep sewer smell coming from the shower; AC in master bedroom did not work (admin came the next day to have a look and fixed temporarily but failed again) the house also needs to be fumigated
Overall a good experienced and great time for everybody despite the cons we experienced

Great Time
This house is situated in the small community of Chelem. If you are looking for a relaxing time this place is it. With convenience stores within 2 minutes. The owners responded very quickly to all of our needs.

Nice beachfront home in Chelem
We stayed here January 24th- Feb.2 2019. This home was very clean and had everything we needed for or stay. Miguel, was always there when we run into some questions and filled our water and gas. This home is very close to town, which we could walk a short distance to restaurants groceries, and the shuttle to Progreso. I would suggest flying into Merida. Saves time on your travel days.
Thank you Omar for sharing your home with us.

Amazing vacation
Great house on the beach in Chelem. Although we had a few minor issues, Miguel was only a phone call away and was always helpful. Waking up to the ocean and enjoying the pool and private sandy backyard was amazing. If you want a quiet vacation in a very friendly town.....this is a great choice! Omar the host was great at communicating and always responded promptly. Loved our time there. A vacation we will always remember. Thank you Omar!

Our 10 days familly holidays in Chelem at Omars home is hard to forget, so it is to get back to winter in Canada. First, the house is exactly as shown on pictures. No surprise. Of all homes rented over the years, it was the most furnished kitchen I ever had. Having access to a juice extractor and pots, to tuppewares of multiple sizes and a blender faciliated enjoying day to day life: Fresh orange juice in the morning, pina colada and margarita, snack and cut fruits on the road, left overs.... Other special attentions are the number of chairs and hammock outside. Also, being able to connect our portable devices to the speaker enabled dance around the pool, on the beach.. in the house. Miguel was showing up every to check the house, ensuring eveything was fine . He was quite efficient at solving small issues ( need for additional sheets, gaz tank empty, crash course on how to light the oven....). We miss you Miguel. Chelem people are very kind and welcoming. We miss all these smiles, the daily Buenas dias. Meeting the fishermen and getting catch of the day was quite the highlight of the trip. Manuel is able to catch the best robalos ! I truly recommend this place. A small town with fresh and local fish, coconut pies (a must), tortillas..., far from stress and articifial life, close enough to Progreso for larger and specific needs and to outdoors activities (Maya sites, cenotes, flamingos...). Thanks Omar for having getting us the chance to discover this great place!

30th anniversary with family and freinds
My wife and i spent six weeks in this wonderful home to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This home was just everything it was suppose to be, our three children came down for two weeks and a couple of friends for the same time period with lots of room for everyone. The local people of Chelem were all very friendly with lots of local restaurants within walking distance all at a very reasonable price for meals and drinks, we did rent a car which is advisable if you wish to travel to Merida or Progresso for any shopping which there is lots of or a different style of dining.Over all i can say it was the best place for a quiet and enjoyable vacation....

Charming villa, true hospitality, $$$ views!
Western style villa with all that you need to have great times. Omar and his team cared about us all the way from picking us up after midnight in Merida to dropping us off at the ADO bus station in Merida on the way back. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank Omar so much!

Amazing Home on the Beach!
We can't thank the Gonzales family enough for renting us their ocean front home for the month of January, 2015! We're just on our last couple days here now and would certainly recommend this property with a full 5 stars! The home is one of the nicest in Chelem and offers an excellent floor plan layout. We loved the kitchen that was stocked with everything we needed and offers tons of granite countertops including a large island with 6 highback chairs. The two main floor bedrooms are like dual masters with full ensuites and ocean views and we loved the breeze that flowed off the ocean each evening. All 4 bedrooms offer their own bathrooms and there is also a powder room off the main living area. We had great weather throughout the month with average temps being 80F and the house stayed at a comfortable 70-72F without any air, just a nice breeze off the ocean. The entire home is gated and fenced and we certainly felt very safe here too. All the people here in Chelem and Progresso were VERY friendly both day and night and we were always greeted with smiles and hellos where ever we went.
The pool was refreshing on the hotter, full sun days and the entire main floor is perched above the main beach to provide excellent views and there was always an ample amount of sun and shade if required. We hosted some friends here for a week during the month and they really enjoyed themselves too. We made some friends with the local fisherman that moored their boats next to the property and we had a fresh supply of fish and lobster that we enjoyed almost daily! I'd recommend the fish & lobster from the market just two blocks up the road; Fresh Daily!
Chelem also offers many restaurants, markets, a pharmacy and excellent transportation to Progresso. For just a few pesos we could catch an autobus to Progresso where there are larger shopping centers and more restaurants and shopping areas. We often enjoyed walking the Malecon there! We also enjoyed touring the sights such as ruins, 500 yr old buildings & churches and swimming in the cenotes. We would recommend staying here with 100% satisfaction. Cheers

Great vacations!
I stayed with my family for two weeks and had a great time. Great place to relax, people in town are very friendly. great view, excellent weather, calm sea. It's just 30 minutes away from the city of Merida. If you're looking for a time to relax in the beach without losing any commodities and without the crowdiness of five star hotels, this place is for you!
