About this villa rental
Casa Gala, the house made famous by the book "Gringos in Paradise" written by Barry Golson, a true-life story of Barry and his wife Thia's adventures in Sayulita, the friends they made and the Dream House they decided to build in the lively, lovely village of Sayulita.
Newly remodeled Casa Gala is a beautiful 5 bedroom, 4 bath house, complete with a private pool and tropical garden within a very private and secure walled compound. Steps to the beach and ten minute walk downtown.
Sayulita, for those of you new to the area, is a surfing and fishing village tucked into the edge of the jungle, about 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. It was the paradise Barry and Thia picked after traveling throughout Mexico. In 2018 they decided to move home to the USA and I took over where they left off, buying the house and remodeling.
With accommodation for up to 11 guests, Casa Gala is a handsome Spanish Colonial home on the quiet north side of Sayulita, just a 10-minute walk South to the life and color of the plaza and a 10-minute walk North to the Jungle and trails.
There are several excellent restaurants and stores one block away too, where you can get food, cervezas, rent golf carts and book tours. The house is in a perfect location on the main beach road, 1 block and a 2-minute walk away from the ocean, on the tranquil side. (Sayulita’s main beach can be crowded in high season.)
The first thing you see upon entering the imposing wrought-iron gates are 2 tall "aqueduct" arches, one of which cascades water into the 30-by-15 pool. There is an enticing thatch-roofed "palapa" poolhouse with its own 1/2 bath room. Through the arch is a "secret mini-garden" behind lush foliage, with a swing chair and a fountain. There's an outdoor shower where you can rinse off your sandy feet.
On the ground floor, there are 2 gorgeously-appointed Queen-sized bedrooms with custom-carved head boards and furniture, each with a private bathroom decorated in hand-made talavera tiles as well as patio door access to the garden and pool area. There's a luxurious newly remodeled kitchen with high end appliances and a breakfast bar. A new kitchen water filter provides safe drinking water and ice.
The living/dining great room has huge sliding glass doors which can open to the garden and pool area, which glows at night from the lanterns along the hacienda wall. There is also a TV family room with a large sofa, huge DVD collection, Netflix & DirectV that can be closed off when it's cool for TV-watching and sofa-loafing, or air-conditioned when it’s warm.
Upstairs is a self-contained level, with three more bedrooms. There's a newly remodeled suite with Cali-King bed, lounge, patio doors to access the terrace and a new en-suite bathroom. There's another Queen-sized bedroom with terrace patio doors and a smaller bedroom, with a bunk bed with a Full-sized lower bed and Twin-sized upper and its own sink. These 2 bedrooms share a full bath, with the shower and toilet separate from the sink area. The long terrace overlooks the pool and garden with chaises where you can lounge, read, and watch the life of the village.
All bedrooms have new AC units and ceiling fans to keep you cool.
There are stairs to a large rooftop pavilion on the third floor with lounge and dining areas where you can take in the sea breezes. You’ll have a view of the village and surrounding mountain and jungle, and a peek through the palms at the ocean. The pavilion is enclosed by wrought-iron railings and lanterns, perfect for entertaining.
Other amenities: laundry room with a washer and dryer, bed linens, bath and beach/pool towels, beach chairs and umbrella, ironing board and iron, hairdryers, vitamix. Twice-weekly maid service which includes cleaning, doing the dishes, change of linens & towels. If you need more maid service please enquire.
As you probably know, you can stay for 2 weeks and not visit all of Sayulita’s restaurants. There’s a wealth of beach activities, including Sayulita’s own world-class surfing, plus horseback riding, nearby snorkeling, whale-watching, ATV tours, bird watching tours, hiking, mountain biking and canopy/zipline tours.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions or to request a reservation.
See you on the beach!
Gary.

We spent a week at Casa Gala with our family - 6 adults, 2 children (ages 3 and 6). The house was perfect for us - great overall accommodations, very close to beach and center of town. House manager was terrific - very responsive and accommodating. The host was very responsive to each of our inquiries before our arrival. This was our first trip to Sayulita and our family is already talking about coming back and we would definitely stay at Casa Gala again if available.

There was 10 family members ranging in ages from 3 to 66. Casa Gala was exceptional for closeness to beach, downtown shopping and lots of restaurants. Spacious enough for all of use. Kids loved the pool and the bathroom by the pool was great. Thanks to Gary, cleaning and pool staff. Our vacation was a success.

The house was spectacular. Great location, walking distance to downtown and the beach. Property manager was very responsive. The transportation service he recommended, Tino, was absolutely great! I would highly recommend booking with him to/from the airport and anywhere around the area.
Would absolutely book here again!

Hands down the BEST home ever!!!!
From the moment we booked this location....the owner Gary was super responsive and his communication was great. We arrived to find the home exactly how it is shown in the photos. The distance to the main town was not bad at all and super close to the beach where we got to release baby sea turtles From the near by rescue. The home and surrounding areas were all very clean and the local residents were so friendly. The views were also amazing. Concha and the rest of the staff were very professional and made everything so accommodating as well. AND I can’t forget to mention that it is close to one of the most AWESOME bars in town that holds one of the best bartenders in...Big Tony.... who makes the best margaritas in all Sayulita. I would 100% recommend this beautiful and relaxing home to all ages. Can’t wait to visit Sayulita again just to stay at this same location all over again!!

Great Mexico Vacation House
This property is perfect for families or couples travelling together. Property is exactly as described and shown in pictures and has everything you need. Beach is just around the corner about 200 yards away.
Pool was perfect temperature and the fountain is a nice touch FYI- if pump isn't running the timer on the wall kicks it on. Nice to have a 1/2 bathroom out by the pool too.
Several restaurants just a few steps away and the center of town is less than 1/2 mile so an easy walk.
Gary the owner has great communication with you and Concha is there locally for any help you need.
In all, would recommend Casa Gala to anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Beautiful home
The only thing I regret is not staying longer. Beautiful home, cozy, simply perfect.
We had a rental car but you don't really need a vehicle unless you need to go far. Walking distance from beach and a few restaurants and local crafts market.
Overall great experience!

Great for our three genertions
What a great spot to bring the kids and grand kids. Room for everyone to gather and to spread out. Secure, close to the beach, and roomy, this house is great for your large group.
Pretty much has everything you need as well as a little history, the house is the subject of the book "Gringo in Paradise" and has been recently reappointed and is now available as a guest house.. We did not need a car or a golf cart as we could walk everywhere.

Heavenly vacation
This home is absolutely stunning! We were on a birthday vacation with 9 adults and we had a great time. The house is set up beautifully for everyone to have space, plenty of beds, bathrooms and the grounds are lovely! It is steps from the best beach in Sayulita ( north) and the pool was so refreshing. We had happy hour on the third floor rooftop which had seating for everyone. Gary, the owner is so easy to work with and responded quickly to any and all questions. We love this home and the town of Sayulita! WE can't say enough about how great this vacation was!!!

Amazing Time in Sayulita
This is a great property and me and my family had a wonderful time. Location in Sayulita is perfect. Beach access is close and on the quieter side of the beach. Gary provides chairs and umbrella which is plus for sure. Close enough to Central part of village that you can walk. Great area with services and amenities close by.
The property was spotless and beautiful. The listing and pictures are all accurate. Lots of ceiling fans and AC in rooms worked well and not noisy. Lots of towels. The kitchen is beyond my expectations of VRBO's. All that we need was there from a good coffee maker (essential to a good day) and a great blender for smoothies (with all the fresh fruit available in town).
From past experience in Sayulita we had rented a golf cart and parking is easy on property but cart is clearly optional with this location.
Pool is amazing plus and Gary has a team that keeps all the property in great shape from gardener to pool person. Everything exceeded expectations. I have done multiple different rentals like VRBOs and others and this was best we have had.
The rooftop area is great to relax and start the day with your coffee or look at sunset with a Pacifico.
Gary is very responsive and his property person is very good. Small issue with an AC and she was there in a jiffy. Fixed and great week.
For those new to Sayulita it is tough to explain the great vibe of the village. Relax and and enjoy the laid-back feel and having dinner and drinks in that village. Always recommend Macolino for great Italian food. Easy to shop for great fruits and get fresh squeezed orange juice. Good fish is available and there are couple of meat shops. Quite partial to the Sayulita life.
This visit we really enjoyed the Orca De Sayulita whale watching experience - not a party boat, just great whale watching with people that care.
We had a great time on our vacation. This property is amazing with good beds and all the room even a big family would need. I would recommend to anyone and look forward to going back with my family again. Great job Gary.
