About this house rental
Woodsy, private and pet-friendly spacious modern home in a great location across a quiet neighborhood street from Tawas Lake. Free Wi-Fi. Easy shoreline access across a quiet street. Take the canoes to the lake. Campfire area, grill and outside deck with table and chairs. Only one mile from the Lake Huron beachfront park and the quaint shops of East Tawas, the nicest tourist destination on the Sunrise Coast. Great walking or biking through the Tawas lake neighborhoods. There is a frisbee golf course past the boat access site which also provides another way to walk to town. I've known many of the neighbors all my life, they are friendly and welcoming to my guests.
City of East Tawas Short-Term Rental Registration #STR-002. Strictly limited to 6 guests and no more than two vehicles parked in front of garage.
WWII, hunting, and fishing antiques are displayed in the house to celebrate Glen's life and times. I released a book and DVD (Echoes Through Time: WWII and the Northwoods) based on the 270 letters he sent home to Ma during WWII. I inherited the house and the letters from Glen. He was my best friend and outdoors mentor. Display copies are available for reading or viewing at the house.
The house is on three lots with huge oak and pine trees and nice views of Tawas Lake and the surrounding woods (look for the deer!). New large porch windows look over the lake across the street. Easy access to the shoreline, the canoes can be hauled up on shore at the access during your stay.
Tawas Lake is a large shallow lake with the most extensive wild rice beds in Michigan. Great waterfowl viewing and hunting. The fishing is very good for bluegills, bass, and northern pike right in front of the house. A majority of the shoreline is undeveloped and sunsets over the lake are spectacular.
The main street of East Tawas ends at the waterfront park and is lined with antique stores, casual or fine dining establishments, a classic movie theater, and a variety of other shops. The East Tawas/Tawas City area spanning Tawas Bay is the perfect size - small enough to be uncrowded but large enough to have lots of activities, large grocery stores, and a variety of shops and dining. Nearby Tawas Point State Park juts into Lake Huron with another super beach, historic lighthouse, and an extensive hiking area at the end of the point. Tawas Point is a nationally known bird watching area year-round, with even more to see during spring and fall migrations. The Huron National Forest, the famous Ausable River, Tuttle wildlife refuge, Lumberman’s Monument, and many lakes are all within a short drive from the house. Take a scenic 12 mile drive along Lake Huron to the small tourist town of Oscoda at the mouth of the Ausable River but stay in East Tawas where there’s a lot more to do.
Every season offers new activities. Spring has a burst of wildflowers and waterfowl (and low rates). A northwoods summer is usually warm without being too hot, I only rent weekly during the peak summer season (unless I’m open at the last minute). Fall colors are outstanding throughout the area. Fall also brings hunting season. There is ample public land for deer hunting nearby and Tawas Lake hosts incredible waterfowl flights. Spend a great Christmas - New Years holiday week in the North.

We had a wonderful weekend at your cottage. Everything was very clean and roomy. In fact, we spent most of our time in the room at the back just relaxing and talking. C.G.
Thank you for the opportunity to rent your place in East Tawas. My son became an avid fisherman, with your home conveniently located, he went fishing daily on Tawas Lake, off the pier in town and on the AuSable River. We saw our first Bald Eagle with my husband's telescope across Tawas Lake, along with many Sandhill Cranes flying in every evening, very exciting! The sunsets where beautiful on Tawas Lake. There were Osprey nesting at Tuttle Marsh, not to mention all the birds at Tawas State Park. Thank you also for allowing us to spend an extra day. We may be repeat customers as we love the location and the amenities in your home. M.D.
Hi, we just got back and wanted to let you know that we really liked it and will take it again next year, same weekend. L.F.
I have discussed 're-kindling' our old tradition of the family going to Tawas Lake in the spring to catch bluegills. The boys and I did well, about 400 or so in the week we were there. They had an awesome time. I would like to, if possible, reserve the cottage for next spring. J.R.
I look forward to renting again. We have so enjoyed it there the last two years. S.R.
The house was great, we enjoyed our stay. I'll keep your place in mind for another trip. S.L.
Thanks again for the cabin. It was perfect for what we needed. J.G.
Thank you so much for sharing your cottage in East Tawas with us. We enjoyed a truly restful few days; something we needed badly! Everything was wonderful! S.Z.

We had a great time. Not knowing exactly what to expect we were very pleased to find a spacious, clean, comfortable and well-stocked home. The proximity of your place is so convenient yet off the beaten path. C.W.

We had a great time. It was quite relaxing and accommodating with all the creature comforts. East Tawas is a nice little town and we loved the state park and beach. T.E.

Well, we are home from a wonderful week at your cottage/cabin. I expected good, we got FABULOUS - and I want to thank you! The house is adorable - not so important to a man, most likely, but to a woman who must avoid daylight and so spends her days inside, it was very important. It is surprising how a small cottage can feel so big also!! But even better than cute and spacious, the house was spotless!! I used to own a cleaning service and I was totally impressed with how clean the house is! It was such a joy! E.T.

Loved our week there. Very comfortable house. Everything that was needed was there. My only disappointment was that swimming in the lake was not possible especially for young children with the overgrowth. But it was a short drive to Lake Huron.

We totally enjoyed our stay. The cottage is quaint and peaceful. The neighbors were welcoming and the neighborhood was quiet. Great location into town and neighboring cities. We loved the WWII display, along with the DVD and book. We were able to bring our golden retriever who swam in Lake Huron at the dog beach. Would highly recommend!

It was a great spot to stay while exploring local biking and hiking opportunities. The canoe provided gave us a chance to explore the massive wild rice fields in Tawas lake. The cottage was very well appointed and had everything we needed.

Great location near Newman street. The cottage has everything you need. The neighborhood is very quiet and our dog loved going for walks there.

My husband and I arrived at the cottage and found it clean and comfortable. The back room was my favorite space in the Cottage.
Though a grill is provided we did not use it. We also did not have a bonfire on this trip.
We made breakfast in the cottage in the mornings and that was the extent of our "work". We come to Tawas to relax, read, ride our bikes, go to the beach, shop, and EAT OUT!! ☺️. We also enjoyed sitting out on the deck with coffee. We had fun at the Ogemaw County Fair again this year, not a far drive from the cottage!!
After having an Occipital Stroke at the end of January, we needed the time away from doctor appointments, etc.
Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your cozy cottage. 💯

This was my first time in East Tawas/Tawas. I had a great time. The location was good. Very quiet. Super convenient to take my kayak across the street and paddle Lake Tawas and Tawas River. I was able to ride my bike everywhere in town from the cottage. The rental process was super easy. I plan to rent this cottage again.

My husband and I wanted to get away for the anniversary for the weekend. We are pretty familiar with Tawas and Oscoda area so I looked around VRBO to find a cute little cabin nearby last minute. It looked nice, was a reasonable price so I booked it. We got into the cabin and found a WWII display book and video centering around the cabin and the previous owners. My hubby is a bit of a WWII buff.
It made my husband and I nostalgic about our own family’s cabin that was sold last year and my husband’s grandfather who was in WWII. This is a special place with a special story. We plan on staying again and would definitely like to buy one of the books next time. (Only the display book was left.)
Thanks, Greg!

The cottage is well stocked and clean. It was the perfect size for 2-4 people. The lake is beautiful and I would bet has some good fishing on it. The neighborhood is very quiet with friendly neighbors. We had an emergency while we were there and the staff at the hospital was friendly and efficient. Greg is an excellent host and easy to get in touch with.

The property is as described and suitable for the get away we were seeking. We appreciated bringing our Sr. Dog with us, she was able to join us on our multiple trips to Oscoda for our hikes. Spring is definitely on its way and the area was just about to pop with leaves. This a very pleasant area but I imagine it is pretty busy during the summer months given the exposure to all the water activities available. Thank you for the opportunity to stay here ! We may come again in the fall!
