About this house rental
Experience green season here in the tropics. It is my favorite time of year. A warm ocean breeze accompanies the tropical sun warming your skin; the waves lap the sand with a rhythmic calm; birds lazily soar overhead. Monkeys howling in the background. This peaceful serenity can be yours at Casa Alta, a beachfront house facing the sea and backed by the lush Costa Rican jungle, all just seconds from the pristine sandy beach in Manzanillo. Casa Alta is a three bedroom, two bath private beach house situated on the Pacific Ocean, just a ten-minute drive from beautiful Playa Hermosa and fifteen minutes from Santa Teresa. This home is close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer, yet removed enough to feel the tranquil vibe of the lesser known and populated Manzanillo.
Drinking your morning coffee from the patio while watching the waves creates the perfect atmosphere for planning your day. Surfing (you can check the waves right from the patio), boogie boarding, kayaking, yoga, fishing, horseback riding, zip-lining or just soaking up the rays are just a few of the many activities our area offers. Whales frequent these warm oceans, so keep your eyes peeled for them!
Imagine watching the howler monkeys in the tree tops overhead, listening to the amazing variety of tropical birds nesting in the forest nearby, or toasting the spectacular sunsets at the end of each day as the sun settles into the ocean before you. This house, at the end of the road, provides a relaxing yet incredible energy. This balance is achieved by combining the natural beauty of its unique location with the advantages of a modern home complete with internet, comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen.
Perfect vacation for families, friends, and/or couples.

We had an awesome time staying here. We loved finding a lot of crabs and Christi immediately resolved a minor concern. Enjoyable all around. Would recommend!

We stayed in Manzanillo because we had family members staying in Santa Teresa but we wanted a more laid back, less bustling scene. Manzanillo was a great choice. It's about 20 minutes from Santa Teresa, and the house was beyond expectations; one of my favorite Vbros ever! It's perched on a hill of its own, up a short steep cobblestone driveway (4WD not necessary) with a treetop sublime view of the ocean and jungle-covered hills. The beach (much less crowded and low key than the Santa Teresa beaches) is a two minute walk away, at the foot of the hill. The beach goes on and on, you can walk for hours. You hear the crash of waves and the birds and, now and then, monkeys. The interior materials....wood, polished concrete floors with wood accents, polished concrete counters, comfy wicker furniture and white walls and open floor plan create an architectural gem. Large door shutters open up to let the outside in, creating expansiveness. There is a large porch with hammocks at each end and sofas and rocking chairs. This house is ideal for families and couples. The bedrooms are situated at each end of the living room/kitchen area.
Equally important in the equation is the responsiveness of the host. Kristi is exceptional. I had so many questions because I felt responsible for other members of my famijly who were staying nearby, in regards to transportation and activities etc...Kristi unfailingly responded with kindness and attentiveness.
A sheer delight!

Family of 5 trip to Santa Teresa area. Beautiful home at Manzanillo Beach just a few mins from town…nice to be away from the traffic/noise/atv’s in town. Home is perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific and beach is just down below at the end of driveway. We loved opening all the large wooden doors in the great room (living/kitchen/dining) to hear the ocean and enjoy sea breeze. Kitchen well appointed…would have liked to have a bbq grill. Beautiful patio with couch & hammock! Bedrooms/bathrooms were nice (ac’s worked great!) and the outdoor showers were a cool change of pace. Would definitely recommend this home if you’re looking for a quiet secluded getaway just a short drive from Santa Teresa! It was a very special & unique home and we hope to come back again some day!

Three couples in their 60s (old friends) stayed here and had a fantastic time. The house is at the end of the road, completely secluded, with a soaring views over the Pacific, just a 2 minute walk down the driveway. The house itself is unusually lovely: it is tastefully furnished in beautiful local woods, with a wide covered patio looking out over the magnificent view. An unusual feature is the seamless indoor/outdoor structure, as there are no screens or sliders between the house and the patio, producing a gloriously open feel. (No bugs, how incredible is that?!). Just a km down the beach is a charming and delicious local restaurant with great fish dishes, and just beyond that you can buy your own fish right off the boat from the fishermen at 7:30 am and cook it yourself. The beach is great for swimming and body surfing (though watch for rip currents), and you can walk for miles on the beach, passing only the occasional person and their dog or horse. It is a long bumpy drive from San Jose (5-6 hours in a 4x4), so consider flying in to Liberia. But the reward for the long drive is peace, nature, and tranquility (which is hardly disturbed by the continuous sound of crashing waves).

Our first trip to Costa Rica. The property is absolutely stunning and pretty easy to find. Every angle provides a different view of either the ocean or the jungle. We enjoyed morning coffee with the sounds of monkeys in the background and iguanas & birds all around the house.
Easy access to the beach, which was nearly empty most of the time we were there. We did a couple day adventures out of Santa Teresa & Mal Pais - all easy to get to with 4x4 SUV.
Kristi was quick to respond to all of my questions and very courteous. The house was clean and even better than described. It was obvious that Kristi wanted my family to enjoy our stay - and we definitely did. If you want a beautiful hideaway to relax that's still close enough to easy adventures, this is the right spot for you!
Thank you, Kristi, for sharing your home & helping my family create some unforgettable memories. Pura Vida!

The host, Kristi, was amazing! She helped us with groceries, surf lessons, fishing, and ATV rentals. The place is in a beautiful setting overlooking the water. Hearing the ocean waves, sitting on the porch, and relaxing was just what we hoped our trip would be. We loved being outside of the busyness of Santa Teresa but close enough to visit.
FYI, we were fine with the open air living but it might not be for everyone.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful and unique home
The house is very open to the outside, unique and well constructed. A close examination of the house pictures show how special it is and the setting is very private sitting above the beach.

First Visit to Costa Rica
Nice property, but it needs air conditioning in every bedroom (currently only in master bedroom). The manager (Kristi) is very helpful and she put together a binder full of information about the house and the local area. Familiarize yourself with that information on your first day as it answered all of our questions about the house and had great suggestions for restaurants in the area. Make sure you have What’s Ap on your smart phone and use the Waze app for navigation.

Great location some drawbacks
Beautiful home, beautiful furnishings. Enrique, the caretaker, is attentive and lives at bottom of the hill.
Water was a problem. The showers look great but the water was sketchy. Water is dear during the dry season - So limited use.
Limited pressure etc
We had to buy drinking water. We bought groceries in liberia for our stay. Not much available locally.
we had a fab time swimming in the ocean and watching the parrots off the deck.
We were glad to have headlamps because there is not sufficient light to read by.
Heat pump/ a/c in master bedroom.
You won’t be bothered here. Pure peace on every side.
Not recommended for young children or elderly due to steep drop and elevation. Nice breeze! Lock closet available and suggested.
The location for isolated and endless beach! We loved the local people who are friendly.

Beautiful, quiet location but reasonably close to many things!
The location is spectacular, so close to a beautiful, quiet beach but up on top of a small hill, so breezes and views are always to be had. A short walk to a restaurant and market meant we were never without anything needed, and a short drive to a brew pub was a wonderful amenity for us! A bit farther down the road is Santa Teresa, with plenty to eat and to do, but there are lots of places to explore off the beaten track, which is what we wanted. For us, looking for something quieter, this was perfect!
The only hiccup was WiFi getting knocked out for a few days; blame it on the palm trees and ocean breeze! Kristi worked diligently to get the problem addressed, which it eventually was (the company had to send techs out from San Jose). She was so helpful and friendly, a delight to work with. We will definitely be returning, for a longer stay next time. Pura vida!

Gem!
Wonderful! Big thank you for the recent 6 night opportunity to stay at Casa Alta.
Its far from the hustle and bustle of Santa Teresa yet close enough to enjoy both.
We loved the beach and found a local place with good food and a pool for those hot afternoons and another a five minute walk that had the best whole fish!
The management is/was responsive to our needs and the entire place had comfort built-in for our enjoyment.
We hope to be back there some day!

Beautiful Home!
Beautiful open air home with stunning views. The house was a bit remote but the privacy was nice. Tide pools on the beach right in front of the house and a beach almost completely to ourselves. 😊

Casa Alta it was an adventure. Open air living next to the Manzanillo river. Breathtaking sunsets.
This an older property. That is well maintained.

BEAUTIFUL HOME!
What a wonderful home! Wish we could have stayed longer. The only downside was the lack of hot water and it is a bit remote.

This was our second visit to this part of Costa Rica and staying at Casa Alta definitely added to our experience. We were out all day surfing at Playa Hermosa and this house provided quiet, secluded mornings and evenings to recharge and enjoy the view and sounds of the ocean. We went swimming almost every night and the beach below the house was very nice for us and our eight and ten year old. We had monkeys eating in the trees on the property two out of the seven days of our stay and saw lots of iguanas. I was initially concerned about the no air conditioning but we left the house open at night and the cool breeze off the ocean kept us very cool. Highly recommended.

Casa Alta
Casa Alta is a beautiful and unique property in a lush oceanfront setting. This rental would be ideal for groups and/or for anyone who wants run away and unplug. The home is surrounded by views--sunrise over the jungle on one side and golden sunsets over the ocean on the other. Lots of interesting features at Casa Alta, from outdoor (yet still private) showers, large picture windows under a rustic canopy in the master, tons of seating and the solid wood folding doors in the main room allowing the beauty of the outside in. A 20-30 minute drive off the main road, Casa Alta is close enough to larger towns while still being secluded enough to get away and relax. We didn't make it down to the beach but it appeared to be only about a 5-10 minute walk and not at all crowded. We recommend a 4WD vehicle and bring a laptop or ipad if you want to have some evening/nighttime entertainment. The icing on the cake is the attentive and kind property manager, Kristi.

Casa Alta sets a high bar
We have stayed at Casa Alta on three separate occasions, every one of which was spectacular. From the three-minute walk to the beach (which was mostly deserted, as it is not a good surfing beach), to the unreal sunsets every night, the ambience is unsurpassed. The floor plan of the house allows for privacy, if you want that, but the great room is an outstanding place to make food as a group, if desired. The property managers are incredibly responsive and go above and beyond, without being at all intrusive. The outdoor showers are to die for. The house location provides a respite from the party-intense and dusty Santa Teresa, but is close enough to drive in and enjoy the great restaurants in town or to get in a daily surf-session. You'll appreciate those quiet Casa Alta sunsets all the more! A rental car is a must, and we recommend 4WD.

Off the Beaten Path
We have stayed at Casa Alta 3 times and each visit has been extraordinary! Three 50+ couples stayed for a week and managed to eat out, entertain in and experience the Cobano Rodeo. The house is about 15 minutes from Santa Teresa along the beach road. A rental car is a must. The house is about 500 meters from the ocean with a nice sandy spot for swimming just up the beach. Horseback riding, surfing, yoga and stand up paddle are all easily arranged through the owner/property manager. The rustic openness of the home creates a wonderful feeling of relaxation that every vacationer seeks.
