About this cottage rental
Escape from the world at Caywood Cottage! You'll feel your worries melting away as you leave the pavement behind and wind your way through 1.25 miles of vineyards before arriving home. This cozy cottage on a private, dead end gravel road (that we share with Silver Thread Winery!) features modern conveniences, wooded privacy and lake access for those wishing to sip, splash and relax.
A short flight of stairs from our four-car parking area leads you to a wrap around deck. If you're able to tear yourself away from the view, the front door leads you into a bright, open great room. The beautiful eat-in kitchen opens to the living area with a full-size futon and a flat screen TV, with Netflix and a blu-ray player, complete with a wide array of DVDs for cinefiles of all ages. A closet full of games and books, help pass the occasional rainy day - or provide a welcome distraction after dinner before a night of campfire, S'mores and Riesling! Original hardwood floors have been refinished - bringing gleaming clean character to the home and huge picture windows with breath-taking panoramic lake views escort the outside beauty in. Two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, join the pull out queen sofa in the living room in providing comfortable sleeping spaces for up to 6 adults!
A full bathroom with a new shower with sliding glass doors and a stacked washer-dryer off the kitchen will help you clean up from a day hike or lounging at the lake - and get ready for a night out at one of the area's many restaurants, wineries, or breweries.
To access the private lakefront, guests can either walk or drive down the gravel drive to the lake, where 50 feet of private lakefront, outdoor furniture, a fire ring, and dock are available. There is parking for 2 cars near the shed, and a canoe is provided for your aquatic exploration.
On the east shore of Seneca Lake and close to the west-side of Cayuga Lake, Caywood Cottage is surrounded by some of the best wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the area! Historic Watkins Glen and it's jaw-dropping State park is only a 25 minute drive south, and the cities of Geneva and Ithaca are a short drive away. Escape into nature in less than 30 minutes at the majestic Taughannock Falls and only 20 minutes to the peaceful splendor of the Finger Lakes National Forest.
At Caywood Cottage, you CAN have it all - privacy, views, a deck to grill and sip on, a quiet dock to sit on - and still be nearby the most popular area attractions and activities!

Guests praised the cozy cottages, beautiful views, well-stocked amenities, and easy access to the lake and local attractions. Owners were responsive and accommodating, making the stay magical and memorable.

Beautiful view from the deck. The host left a complimentary bottle of wine from the vineyard you drive through and a basket of smore fixings. Yiu are on a small bluff and its a short walk to the waterfront itself. The furnace is a bit loud when it kicks in. A true lake cabin experience.

My family of 3 loved this adorable cottage! The property was just as described and so cute! There is a wood stove (wood not included) but the owners even thought to have newspaper and a lighter available. The attention to all of the details of the stay were much appreciated. We would definitely want to stay there again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Caywood Cottage. Everything was exactly as described. The views of the lake from the warm cozy kitchen and living room were magnificent. The bedrooms and loft suited us and our 2 college aged kids, providing private, comfortable space for everyone. The deck was a lovely place for our dog to enjoy the lake breezes safely. We know the FLX area well and were very happy with this cottage. The owner was responsive and helpful. we highly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The place was wonderful and the views were spectacular. The grill needed cleaning and a couple finishes in the cabin needed minor fixing but we enjoyed our stay immensely.

The cottage was very relaxing and quiet with beautiful scenery. Located very close to many great wineries and breweries as well as Watkins Glen. While the home does not have a direct staircase to the water/dock, it is only a short walk. Would highly recommend to anyone. The hosts were very responsive.

The accommodations were perfect. Very cozy cottage with a beautiful view from the large deck and open kitchen/living room. Owner was great and very responsive and helpful. Fire pit was great and the cottage was conveniently located near many great wineries and breweries. We would definitely stay again.

This cozy cabin was located on a winding road through vineyards with a breathtaking view of Lake Seneca.
When we arrived, there was a nice bottle of wine waiting for us, along with a basket of goodies to make s'mores. The cabin is cozy and charming. Great location near many wineries and restaurants. The owner was very responsive with any questions we had. We would definitely return the next time we visit the area. A magical visit!

The cottage sits on top of an 80 foot cliff bordering Lake Seneca. From the expansive deck one has spectacular, unobstructed views of the lake and beyond. Its property abuts the lake with a dock and boathouse with a canoe, two kayak and accessories. Getting to the waterfront from the house requires a quick one-half mile walk or drive on a hard-pack sand/stone road. The cottage has two bedrooms with queen beds, one bathroom, and a loft that would accommodate many children. The appliances, bathroom, and kitchen are modern and well stocked. The five star rating reflects the excellence of Greg, the owner. His quick responses to all questions and speed at correcting the occasional problem that all of our houses encounter was superb.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. The deck was amazing as were the views. I accidentally left an item at the cottage and the owners were so responsive and kind. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Awesome lake getaway
We loved staying at Caywood cabin. It seemed a bit bigger than it looked in the pictures. The deck is huge and we enjoyed stargazing there. The host was incredibly responsive and gave us great recommendations. For us the boats and life jackets totally made our stay - we went out on the lake every day as well as visiting every waterfall in the area. Perfect getaway for our family.

Amazing Deck with beautiful view
Waterfront view of lake Seneca! Very nice bathroom, excellent supply of pots, pans, cooking and eating supplies. Grill with propane tank was fun for grilling. Owner left games, movies and books. Overall a magical time.

Scenic
Property owners left a welcoming note and a bottle of local wine which was greatly appreciated. Cottage has many updates. Wonderful shower! Bedrooms are small, beds are against the wall making it difficult for those who need to get up during the night. We enjoyed the deck. So many stars to see at night.

Experience was great, property in excellent condition. Might suggest dimmer switches for the overhead lights or a floor lamp.

Great house
Owners were very accommodating. The House was upgraded, clean, and perfect for us; large deck with table, chairs and grill, view of the Lake; and fire pit. Large bathroom for a small home. Could not have asked for a better guest quarters for the price. Highly recommend.

Cozy Cabin with nice views
Overall A+; very nice stay and great owners who are easy to deal with and reply quickly (usually a few hours). Overall the reviews are spot-on, so I encourage folks to read-up. The cabin itself is nice and clean, large bathroom, well stocked, and pretty comfortable. The only downsides are minor, being the property is about a 10 minute drive off the highway and you have to drive or walk to the dock. I also recommend an all-wheel drive if you are hauling a family or large cargo.

Would love to book immediately for next summer, but…
My husband and two college age kids spent a wonderful 6 days. The rental was clean, well stocked, as advertised, beautiful view, deck had a great combination of shade and sun, good access to the water by car (might be tougher after days of rain). Daily views of bald eagles was a special bonus. Close to many day trips with plenty of time to relax in the water or enjoy the view. Our only disappointment was that we went to book the cottage for a week next year and found that the pet policy had changed and the price had increased significantly. Thought we had found our annual rental. 😢

Great place to spend a week
House was clean. Neighbors were friendly. So much to do in the area if you don't want to spend all of your time at the lake. Lake was beautiful.

The most relaxed we've felt in a long while
My family had the very best time at Caywood Cottage! The place was perfectly clean and stocked with everything you need. The short walk to the boat house is easy and nice. We loved getting out on the water as well as exploring the national forest, local wineries & breweries. Pretty much the perfect get-away!

Comfortable cottage
House was clean and check-in was easy. Everything needed for a comfortable stay is provided. Deck is spacious and the view of the lake is awesome. Only downside is there is no direct access to the water- you must walk/drive back down the road and then through about a dozen other waterfront areas belonging to other properties to get to the dock and boathouse. Overall the cottage was great and met our needs. Thanks, Greg!

Amazing property and atmosphere!
The property is truly better than pictured / described. The view and access to Seneca Lake are both phenomenal. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and plentiful. This was our first trip following the covid-year and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. Communication from the host occurred proactively at appropriate frequencies and any questions that we asked were responded to very quickly (typically within the hour). The property is located near many great wineries, restaurants, and waterfalls, making it easy to enjoy the area. We are already considering booking this property again and recommend it wholeheartedly! Definitely bring bug spray, though, you are RIGHT on the lake :)

Great stay in a nice little cabin
5.0
Stayed at Caywood for a few days this week. While cozy in size, the house has two queen bedrooms and a fully updated full bathroom. There's a bonus loft area which we did not utilize. Can't beat the location with the deck overlooking Seneca Lake. There is direct lake access via the private road/driveway that loops through the neighborhood. The cottage is very private - at the end of the road, and takes you through acres of vineyard.Bathroom, wood floors, and deck have been recently renovated. There are a few drawbacks if you have little ones: there is only a stall shower so bath time can be a challenge, the loft staircase is not secured and given its location in the middle of the room is enticing to climb, and you'll need to make sure the deck gate is closed at all times - the property drops abruptly to the lake. The cottage seems like an ideal location for a couple or pair of couples to relax and have unparalleled access to Lake Seneca and the numerous vineyards adjacent to the property.

Sunsets on Seneca Lake
This was a perfect weekend cabin getaway in the Finger Lakes. Located centrally along the east side of Seneca lake, easy access to wineries and hiking, and direct lake access as well for water activities. Amazing view, especially for sunset, right off the deck or from the waterfront fire pit. The dirt road to access the cabin was intimidating at first, but well worth the journey. The cabin was cozy but plenty of space and exactly as described. Equipped kitchen and perfect gated deck for our dog. Beds are definitely on the firm side, took a night or two to get used to, but linens and towels were clean and soft. Great host. Would visit again!

Great Lake View, Close To Wineries
5 friends, myself, and our husky puppy all stayed here for a long weekend. I wish we could've stayed longer! We loved the view of the lake and the wineries close by. We had a great time using the kayaks and the canoe. The lake was a short walk from the house and our husky even made friends with the neighbor's dog. We were able to go to Wagner Winery (only a 5 minute drive) and had so much fun! Greg was so responsive to all of my questions. The only negative I can say is that the dirt/stone road was hard for our one FWD vehicle (my friend ended up having to push it up the small hill to get back up from the lake). Not the owners fault of course, but I definitely suggest taking an AWD car/truck down to the lake. Overall, Greg has a lovely home that was perfect for the 6 of us! Thanks so much

Great Stay
We stayed the first weekend in November with our dog and we had a great time. The house was easy to find and the location was great. The views from the deck were beautiful. We were greeted with a bottle of local wine on the table which was a really thoughtful touch. The house was clean and had everything you could possibly need (even popcorn and all the ingredients for smores!). There are also tons of DVDs to watch. You do have to get your own firewood for the fire pit, but we found the best place in the area - it's a small road-side stand across from the Sunoco in Hector ($5/large bundle). There are many things to do in the area; especially Watkins Glen State Park, Grist Iron Brewing and Wagner Winery/Brewery. We would definitely come back again in the warmer months when we can enjoy the dock.

Beautiful spot on the lake amid the vineyards
We had a wonderful stay. The cabin was perfect for our annul family gathering. We loved the walk through the Fingerlakes National Forest, and an amble through the vines. Access to lake was just as described and a pleasant walk too. Thank you!

Awesome Oct Weekend!
We stayed there with our two dogs late Oct and couldn’t be happier! I only wish it was warmer and we could have used the dock and boathouse more, but it was still nice to see the dock and sit on it for a few minutes. Beautiful deck views. Greg has clearly anticipated anything you’d need in the cabin. Def will be coming back when it is warmer!
