This charming private retreat is nestled among Maples, Birches, and Firs with a view of Howard Pond. The tastefully remodeled three-bedroom, two-bath cottage sleeps six with two queen beds and two twin beds. The inviting open living/dining/kitchen features a vaulted cathedral ceiling with roof windows that allow light to fill the home. The 6' pine dining table accommodates everyone.
The primary suite with the adjoining loft living area is located on the second floor. The pine paneling, cabinets, and pine wood floors add to the warmth and ambiance of this Maine woods retreat. There will be the slightest sigh (ahh) of approval and excitement as you enter this gracious, welcoming environment. This is a place that can restore your soul. After a day full of activity, you can sit by the fire and watch the leaves or the snowflakes fall. In the summer, see the fireflies blink in the woods at night and listen to the loons' call. There's nothing like a swim in the clear water of Howard Pond. Relax and while away the hours in the rocking chairs on the 8'wide farmers' porch that spans the front of the house.
Howard Pond is a pristine Maine pond that prohibits noisy watercraft and is home to a loon family. There is a public swimming area and a dock near the dam. Adventurous hiking --including the Appalachian Trail & many other hikes in the White Mountains-- and quiet walks are just outside your door. You may even see a moose!
Downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling is all within 10 or 15 minutes of the house.
The Sunday River Golf Club is one of the premier courses in New England. The Bethel Inn and Country Club also provides a challenging 18-hole course.
The House on the Hill is just minutes away from the Androscoggin River, canoeing, kayaking, and guided trips are within easy access.

We really enjoyed our stay at the ‘House on the Hill.’ There was every amenity available and the location offered much needed peace and solitude. The kids really enjoyed swimming at Howard Pond. We would definitely rent again!

We had such a great time staying at the “House on the hill”! We spent most of our time sitting on the porch, or in the water at the pond. The house has everything you could ever want or need. We had a bad storm one night and lost power, but the owner communicated immediately when it would be back on, and where the lanterns and batteries were, incase they were needed. We would absolutely stay there again.

We hadca wonderful stay in this beautiful home despite the rain. we swam in the pond and used the floats provided. What a treat to find fully inflated floats to use. We enjoyed playing games during the rainy afternoon. The kitchen had everything we needed and the whole house was so organized it was easy to find anything. The beds were comfortable and it was so cozy to wake up to the sound if the rain. We can't wait to visit again.

Such a beautiful pond to spend warm summer nights.
Everything went well. Early check in and late check out were much appreciated. Only complaint was that the house was not the cleanest. Also, the bugs were bad in the house. Not sure how to remedy that.

Awesome place
We spent 5 days while attending an event in the area and loved the house from the moment we walked in. Very well provisioned, clean and a great location for what we needed. The lake was a nice bonus. We will absolutely be staying again in the future.

Three generation week...
Owner was very accommodating and responsive. Amenities at house were satisfactory. Suggest you change out upper toilet and shower with adult size units.

perfect getaway
The House on the Hill was a fantastic place for our summer getaway. The atmosphere inside is warm and cozy, and the front porch is a great spot to relax on a hot afternoon. The property has everything and anything you might need during your stay, which made our travels easy. Anne was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions. I would highly recommend this property and hope to return.

Cozy and Comfortable
This was a lovely cabin situated up the hill yet close to everything. We enjoyed swimming and hiking up the street and throughout Grafton Notch State Park, which was an easy drive away. The cabin a
had all of the amenities you could need for your stay through all seasons. We felt like there was so much care and thought put into every room and outdoor space of this property. We would love to come back during the ski season as well!

Relaxing and peaceful getaway
Our family had an amazing time. Anne's cabin is charming, cozy and comfortable and in a very peaceful setting near the pond. We went for a beautiful walk in the Bethel community forest and swimming and playing in the sand at Ellis Pond (30 min drive), both of which were great with a toddler. We also grilled for many meals and made fires in the fireplace. We even picked up some delicious pie at the Puzzle Mountain Bakery Pie Stand. It was all very relaxing and just what we were looking for. Highly recommended!

Cozy home right near a lake and the mountains
We spent 4 nights here as a family of four during April break--even though it was the off-season, we got to ski at Sunday river (spring skiing in slush) which is 15 minutes away and did a bunch of hiking in Grafton notch state park--also about a 15-20 minute ride. Anne's house was very comfortable with great beds/sofas/loft area for the kids to lounge. The kitchen was well-appointed--one of the best I've seen in a rental--and we were able to cook meals easily. Anne was extremely responsive. I mentioned that we didn't have fire wood when we arrived and within an hour, she had friends drop some off, which allowed us to warm up with the lovely wood stove. This house is walking distance to Howard Pond and would be a great place in the summer too. We loved our stay and would definitely return.

Perfect, quaint Maine getaway!
We stayed at Anne’s place for a last minute ski trip at Sunday River. The place was great - well stocked with everything you need. Beds and the home were comfy! The instructions are clear and check in/check out was seamless. The proximity to Sunday river is good, about 15 mins. A few notes for future renters to be mindful of: the house is up a small windy road by the pond, which is a bit scary at night. Also, not too many restaurants that deliver and most spots for takeout are by Sunday River so guests should plan for that. The remoteness of the house also makes the WiFi a bit unstable, this wasn’t a huge deal deal for us but would be for someone looking to work remotely here. Overall, 100% would recommend to others and come back! Thanks Anne for being a wonderful host!

Super cozy, convenient place for a ski weekend!
Anne’s property was fantastic! We went as a group of 5 for a ski weekend and had plenty of space to spread out. The house was super comfortable and homey, and it was a quick ride to Sunday River which made it wicked convenient. Anne’s communication was great the whole time as well - she’s a great host! Would definitely stay here again and hope to soon.

Even better than expected
We've been renting the same prep property for summer vacations for generations. This year, it was unavailable and we chose the house on the hill as a last minute backup plan.
My son's (8) reaction, can we go back next year? Why? Because it's better than the house in Plymouth! Huge praise!
Thee property was immaculate. The water was perfect...and the kids were psyched for the games and crafting at night.

Howard Pond Seclusion
We very much enjoyed our stay in this comfortable property. The kitchen was well equipped. The day we arrived was one of those rare hot ones in western Maine and the camp was warm. Window mount fans throughout the camp were available, as well as ceiling fans in the bedrooms which really helped make a difference in keeping the muggy to a minimum. Thanks for a relaxing stay. The WIFI is a little troublesome and you should consider putting in a repeater to increase the signal strength throughout the house, as the router is located in the basement.

Amazing weekend away
My family and I took a weekend trip to Maine and I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. Anne's home is wonderful! The kitchen, one of the most important locations in renters, had everything we needed. The pond was gorgeous and neighbors were lovely. I can't wait to come back everyone was sad to leave but we'll definitely be back and hopefully for a longer stay. Also, Iobed having a bunch of puzzles to choose from. The kids did a few and we tackled the moose one and came out victorious! Thanks Anne for such a great home and a fantastic long weekend away!

Beautiful home
I spent the weekend here with my sons and a daughter-in-law and could not have been happier. We skied at Sunday River, a 15-minute drive a way. The home is in impeccable shape, well-stocked with towels, kitchen equipment, comfortable beds and a cozy wood stove. Anne was very easy to communicate with as well. I highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

Very cozy and secluded. The house was clean and extremely well-stocked with everything you would need for your stay. The loft makes a great additional space for kids to play. A very easy 10 minute drive to Sunday River. Parking for at least 4 cars in the driveway.
