About this cottage rental
LOCATION
Book StoneHaus and you are 4 blocks away from this Riverwalk wonderland.
This historic family-friendly private home includes free gated parking. Start your morning with coffee on the front porch or enjoy a relaxing evening in the backyard garden. The Alamo is only a short walk! Other downtown area attractions in close proximity include the San Antonio Riverwalk, Scottish Rite Center, Tobin Center, The Majestic Theater, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Sunset Station, Hemisfair Plaza, and the Alamodome. The Pearl district is within a short drive.
HISTORY
Known as the Engelmann-Muench House, this cottage was built in 1858 by Martin Engelmann, a wealthy German immigrant. The caliche block vernacular double house sits on a site which was once part of the Alamo farmlands. The structure is a good example of a once-common San Antonio house type and features original built-in end chimneys.
If you explore the neighborhood, you will find a new bar scene developing with Road Map Brewery, La Roca, Bentley's, and more. Of course, restaurants and food trucks are in close walking distance on North Alamo, Houston St and the Riverwalk. Don't forget to sign up for a ghost tour. There are several options from which to choose....Sisters Grimm is my favorite.
Morning coffee on the front porch is relaxing and an evening glass of wine on backyard patio is soothing and delightful.

StoneHaus was one of the most beautiful homes I've rented, it's a true slice of history! The house was spotless, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed during our stay. It was a short walk to both the Alamo and the Riverwalk. We saw a few homeless people in the area but it wasn't any different than what you'd see in any other city. I was visiting with my daughter and 2 young grandchildren (2&3), we felt comfortable walking to/from the downtown area. StoneHaus is completely fenced in with security gates which made us feel very safe at night. The host was friendly and responsive. I highly recommend staying at StoneHaus!

The house was nice. The neighborhood was surrounded by homeless. I thought we could walk to the river walk seeing it is less than a mile but I was unwilling to take my family through the homeless encampments.

Unique little place, very private and quiet… Frankly, I was concerned about it being in an industrial area, but we absolutely loved it and it was secure and perfect for our family for a few days while visiting San Antonio!

Great historical home
Stonehaus is a fantastic little home that is part of early San Antonio. Very comfortable and near to everything you would want to do in the downtown area.

San Antonio weekend
The property is very close - within walking distance - of the key sites in downtown San Antonio, and carries such history being built in 1860s. Very well taken care of and we enjoyed our time there!

This house was wonderful. Historic home and easy walk to Alamo and downtown. Would stay again if I return to visit.

Great spot, interesting history
It's not often that you get to get to stay in a 19th century home. They did a great job restoring it and the proximity to the riverwalk and the alamo is the real win. We felt safe in this one story house, despite the high number of vagrants in downtown. It was a great stay and easy to corral the young kids.

Central Location
We truly enjoyed our stay. Very close to key areas in San Antonio. Loved the history of the house. It was gated, but we still didn't feel comfortable sitting outside at night - I guess that is expected being downtown in a city (we were 4 females). We would definitely stay here again.

Loved the patio and privacy
House is in a convenient location about 4 blocks to the Alamo and river walk and it was quiet. The house was very clean and updated. We loved the little yard and patio and the privacy. While we were in downtown and homeless nearby, we felt very safe in the house and walking to and from the river walk. I only take off a star because the bed frames need some tightening and securing. They were Wobbly and noisy. So anytime anyone moved in the night it woke us up so sleep could’ve been better. The mattresses were comfortable. The couch was super comfy. :-) There was plenty of space for our family of four to spread out. Overall we had a great stay for our first time in San Antonio. Cute house, convenient location, fun trip, river walk exceeded our expectations. It was nice to leave the crowds and walk back to our quiet private place.

San Antonio weekend
Very clean, well equipped property in easy walking distance to The Alamo and other downtown San Antonio attractions. 15 min Uber Ride from airport. The immediate surrounding neighborhood is run down and a bit rough looking but we had NO SAFETY ISSUES and would rent this property again. Hosts were very helpful.

Great house near the Riverwalk
We had a wonderful time staying at Stonehaus. It was within walking distance of all of the downtown attractions. The list of restaurants and attractions in the binder were so helpful. Behind the house was a Mexican Restaurant, with great breakfast tacos. On New Year's Eve, we could see the fireworks display out the back gate. An extra bonus to welcome in the New Year.

Cute home close by everything
The property was perfect for 4. Was i
A short 3 blocks from the river walk and easy access to highways. Scooters all over the place to hop on and take short ride to The Pearl. Privately gated, so very safe. Would stay here again for sure!

Great location and cool house
Pictures do not do this house Justice! The fact that it was walking distance to all of the attentions that we visited was the best part. The only downside was the homeless people and shelter nearby but that’s going to be in every big city. Overall great place and if I come back to San Antonio, I’ll be booking here again!

We loved Stonehaus!!
We had an amazing weekend at Stonehaus. Myself and three other girlfriends rented the property for a girls’ weekend. The house was so cute and unique and was SO clean and welcoming. All aspects were easy from check in to check out. Mona was a great host and was so quick to respond to questions. Close to all fun areas we were hoping to visit and also great for fun nights of catching up. Great stay!

Beautiful Historic Stay
Great location with a short walk to the Alamo and Riverwalk. Beautiful home with rich history that was fully stocked with coffee, creamer, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, washer/dryer, etc. The outdoor space was another lovely place to hang out and was fully secure for the kiddos to run and play. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Sweet Stonehaus
What a great first experience with VRBO!
I stayed at Stonehaus with my best friend. Mona gave me a great tip on the exit to take off IH-35 and we were able to get to the property easily.
When we arrived, the house was nice and cool. A bottle of Alamos wine and some glasses were set out for us on the table as well as a bowl of tangerines on the kitchen counter. So sweet!
I fell in love with the stone floors - such a treat to walk on barefoot! The beds were very comfortable and the house was quiet. I heard no outside noise during our stay.
It’s about 5 blocks to the Alamo & we were fine on our walk over in the morning but the heat got to us in the afternoon. (Uber rides averaged about $8 to go to/from various downtown venues — well worth it!)
I look forward to staying again during the fall or winter months.

San Antonio kind of Weekend
First...the house is amazing...the history and architecture really make it stand out. It is small but, perfect for a couple or small group of friends. In addition, you are only a few minutes walk from the Alamo and Riverwalk. I can't forget to mention the owners hospitality....they were great!

Great little stay
My family stayed here for a short spring break getaway. We have 2 kids under 9, it was a bit loud bc we were near the highway, but taken care of with white noise. Keep in mind there is a trundle under the single bed, at first we didn't realize that which made the sleeping arrangements weird on the first night. nicely updated, while still feeling historic.

Fantastic Historic Home
We've never stayed in a house like this before, it was great! The house is the perfect size for me, my wife, and our two small children. The house is only a few blocks from The Alamo, if you plan to spend your trip downtown you won't have any need to drive once you arrive.
The historic home itself is great- the stone walls and early 1900s style doors/windows make it feel like you have traveled back in time. The kitchen and HVAC are well updated- it was cold when we stayed and the inside of the house stayed warm with no issues.
We definitely plan to stay again the next time we're in San Antonio!

Beautiful, historic home in the middle of downtown!
The Stonehaus is a great place for families looking to spend some time in downtown San Antonio. Walking distance to great restaurants and a short drive to the Market Square. Very convenient location although it's the only home in the middle of many businesses (not a residential area). The house itself is LOVELY! Great amentities and very comfortable. The backyard was a fun area for our kids to play around. Thank you Mona for sharing the Stonehaus with us!

Perfect getaway
We stayed here during spring break and to celebrate my sons birthday. The house was a perfect set up for us and exactly what we wanted. Mona was an amazing and thoughtful communicator. We loved the little courtyard and all of the history. Perfect historical house with updated charm. Will stay again!

I loved staying in this home. The stone walls and fireplaces are beautiful. It was also a great location, only 4 blocks or so to the Alamo.

Great Access to Riverwalk
We were greeted by a warm personal note and a good bottle of wine. Safe and very secure was our feeling here. This house is definitely set apart from this neighborhood. It was a quick walk to the Alamo and great access to Riverwalk. So charming and comfortable inside. Took us a little while to find the bathroom spotlights as switch was outside the door so perhaps a little signage or instructions would be helpful. We had rainy weather but had it been nice we would have used the spacious and cute courtyard area. We loved the charm and history here and would definitely return. Thank you Mona and Barry!

Loved this charming Texas home!
We had a great stay here! It has all the quaint charm of a historic Texan home with all the luxuries you could want! Walkable to the Alamo, river walk, and Tower of America’s. Gated and easy onsite parking. Close to everything, but just far enough you’re not surrounded by skyscrapers and tourists! Would definitely stay here again next time I’m in San Antonio!
