About this house rental
This renovated waterfront home offers incredible views. Big Pond is surrounded by dense forests and abuts state park land. In the off-season, the location is incredibly quiet, with few residents and little activity on the water; ideal if you are seeking utter peace and quiet. This 3 level house offers plenty of space for up to 8 people. Enjoy the whimsical decor and mid-century style furnishings. Close to hiking or ski areas, snow mobile trails, and a short drive to many Berkshire attractions.
We acquired our lake house a few ago. My husband grew up spending his summers in the Berkshires – his father was a violinist in the Boston Symphony and they have a summer season at Tanglewood. We agreed that it would be amazing to offer our children that sort of rich experience, creating memories around summers at the lake and exploring all that the magical Berkshire area has to offer. Our young children absolutely adore this spot and our whole family is in love with the house and everything Big Pond has to offer.
During the summers, the lake is ideal for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, pedal boating, and fishing. At our private sandy beach and dock, the water is very shallow and has a silky, sandy bottom. The kids can play carefree all day.
During the off-season, the house is a real get-away from the grind of our regular city life in the Boston area. It’s the perfect retreat, quiet and remote. The lake is a spectacle of natural beauty. In the early mornings, we have been in awe of the sunrise over the mirror-like surface of the water. At other times, we have admired the rough, powerful force of the winds whipping over the water. Fall foliage is a true marvel as you have panoramic views of the lake right from our back porch. On the opposite side of the lake is a state forest, boasting undeveloped woodlands and offering public hiking trails and even camping. Under the right conditions during the winter season, the lake freezes over and you can ice skate or snow mobile over its surface. No matter what time of year, the varied natural beauty of this setting is stunning.
We take pride in the home itself, as it was an overwhelming renovation project. A lot of thought was put into spatial layout, as well as eclectic furnishings to make it a cozy, family-friendly gathering place. It truly is ideal for two families, or larger groups of people. The home features three full floors of living. The open-format living/dining/kitchen area of the main floor features incredible views of the lake, while the open floor plan is perfect for gatherings. You can lounge on the comfy couches and armchairs, while others can socialize around the kitchen island, prepare and cook a meal, or play games on the dining table.
We offer WiFi and DirectTV live TV access with lots of channels. We also provide some family DVDs.
Cooks will enjoy the fully-equipped kitchen, stocked with quality pots and pans, tea, coffee, oils and spices. Feel free to use what you need. You'll have a glass-top stove, stainless refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, drip coffee maker, electric tea kettle, a toaster, a panini press, and all the dishes or utensils you'll possibly need. You can fit 6 people around the dining table, 8-10 with the extension leaf.
Step onto our wrap-around porch to breathe in the fresh air and take in spectacular views of the lake. In the off-season, there is virtually no activity on the lake. Perhaps the only spotting might be of the nesting pair of bald eagles from the island across the way - they often take flight overhead, and have been known to land in the tall trees near our property.
A bath with shower and a cozy bedroom complete this floor. The bedroom has an extra-long twin bed, a genuine sheep-skin rug, and a built-in dresser which is original to the house.
The upstairs is ideal for a family to spread out over two bedrooms. It offers an open format which is very family friendly, but perhaps not ideal for strangers! The master bedroom has a real ‘wow’ factor extending the full width of the house with an A-frame ceiling lined with knotty pine. This is loft-style in that there’s an opening to the downstairs dining room, which is of course secured by a high railing. You can admire the lake through three bay windows, take a soak in the free-standing tub, situated right in the master bedroom, or escape to our private outdoor balcony. The master bedroom has a small hallway and does not have a door. However, as you can see in the pictures, the room itself has a generous yet cozy feel and both the bed and tub are positioned in such a way to offer full privacy. A half-bath is in the hallway separating the two bedrooms. The second bedroom was furnished with our kids in mind. It has a low ceiling, but is extra wide handling two twin beds which are very comfortable for adults.
The downstairs is a walkout at lake level, featuring a very spacious living/family room with a colorful and comfortable sitting area (original Chicklet chairs from the 1970s) and plenty of space for playing. Here, you can again enjoy viewing the lake and socializing. The bedroom on this level has a queen bed and large closet. The full bath with shower is modern and a generous size. The lower level is perfect for a family as well, and we have at your disposal additional queen or twin air mattress for extra sleeping arrangements.
Our cast iron fire pit, which is situated right on our private beach, is a year-around indulgence. Sit on the benches, break out some marshmallows and enjoy a camp fire any time of year.
For families visiting with small children we can offer access to some toys appropriate for ages 2-6 (wooden train set, Match Box cars, wooden fire house, blocks, puzzles, board games etc.
Our tap water comes from a private well, and passes through a sophisticated filtration system that purifies it for safe drinkability. Nevertheless, there’s a large filtered pitcher in the fridge for those who prefer even greater purity.
The property has an advanced septic system, but we encourage guests to please use water sparingly and to please be mindful about what you put down the drain. Sanitary items and chemicals are harmful to the system. We only use mild cleaning products and we ask you to dispose of food scraps in the trash. Since we are in the middle of a wooded area, there is wildlife. We ask that you do not leave any trash outside as it may attract animals. We have a barrel in the garage that you may use.
Please enjoy our DVDs or bring your own. Our collection is mainly geared toward children and family movies.

Our stay was wonderful. Perfect for two families. The house was lovely, beautiful view looking over (the frozen) lake. Kitchen stocked with basics and super comfy couch and living room area. Kids loved the downstairs play area. We had a great time!

The house was perfect for a relaxing weekend with the girls. There were six of us and everyone slept well. The king bed was shared by the deepest sleepers with no problem. The view was extraordinary and the weather cooperated giving a gorgeous sunrises. We slept well, ate well, and the living room couch was very cozy. Three of us even went kayaking but it was hard to get out because they dropped the water level of the lake. But we hiked through the neighborhood and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company in this beautiful location. Christine checked in several times and was a communicative and gracious host.

Nice Siblings get away. There were 6 of us and we had a very nice time. Tucked away place, Very quiet most likely because it is off season and mid week. It was very relaxing so we could enjoy ourselves.

The house is recently renovated, with nice furniture and woodwork and a well-stocked kitchen. A big deck overlooks the lake (which is the Big Pond in Otis, not the Reservoir, so it's quieter, which we liked). Everything was clean and comfortable, check-in and check-out were easy and communication was smooth. The two upper bedrooms are separated by a curtain and don't have doors, so that works fine for a family but might not be great in all situations. However, it was all in all a great lakeside getaway.

We had a very relaxing and comfortable stay here! Everything you need is provided, and the owners' attention to detail is evident throughout - from the labeled light switches to the booklet filled with recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. Beautiful views of the lake are provided through the large windows on the first floor and the expansive deck. The owners checked in during our stay and were very responsive. The local country store is a few minutes drive away for picking up essentials. Great spot for families, and the home has plenty of games, puzzles, books, and toys that can be used during the stay.
Overall, a great, quiet spot to get away, slow down, and relax.

We loved our stay in this home! The views are breathtaking and the home includes all of the comforts and amenities we could hope for. Only wish we could have had a longer vacation here!

This is our second time staying here as we love being directly on the lake. It’s peaceful during winter time. We got to watch ice fishers and even got to skate for a little bit. We stayed during a rare time with negative temps reaching -17 degrees so we didn’t get out too much. The place is perfect to retreat and plenty of space. Kitchen fully equipped. The owners are lovely and quick to respond to any questions or issues you may have.
My one piece of advice is if you are staying during the winter time and get a storm the roads are not sanded as it’s a private road. There are hills and it can get very icy. Luckily the owners were able to have the neighbor spread some sand so we could get out. Also, the driveway is steep so if older folks are staying that is something to be mindful of. You have to use a sled to transport your belongings to the house. Regardless we had a great stay and a beautiful view!

The location is beautiful, even in the off season there is plenty to do. We explored the Ashintully Gardens and went to the outlets in Lee.

Great experience at this lake house. The place is much bigger than I thought. Lots of room if traveling with family or friends. My 6 year old daughter loved the toys downstairs. The lake view each morning was so peaceful and I even got to see a bald eagle fly over the lake! The water was a bit higher after some much needed rain so no small beach area for my daughter to play but it's October so it wasn't a big deal. The home had everything you needed to cook a full meal. The tub in the master bedroom was a favorite for this mama and my daughter that is was pretty cool too. Great communication with the host. For sure will be back and for a longer stay to enjoy it more! Thanks so much Christine!

This was our second visit here. We are a small group of friends just wanting to spend some time together relaxing. Everything was clean and ready for us. Christine was very responsive, and the house was perfect for our needs. Short distance to activies (hiking, shopping etc).

Our close group of friends gathers once a year in the fall for a reunion focused on fellowship, food, music, movies, and conversation. We enjoy hanging out in outdoor spaces with nice views and enjoying water activities, hiking, biking, etc. This property was the best we've ever enjoyed. The house was well appointed and in a beautiful location with water views from the deck, living room / kitchen, fire pit, dock, etc. The accommodations were comfortable and thoughtfully appointed. The owners checked in on us and made the stay easy before, during, and after. We loved the weekend and plan to be back.

Lake house nirvana
Wonderful time for me and my family. Very relaxing and beautiful. The depth of the water right outside is perfect for younger children. My 6 year old grandson took to the small kayaks like he was born on them. My host Christine was very quick to respond to my questions starting in December when we first booked and including the week we visited. This was my first time booking with Vrbo and it was awesome!

Amazing stay at a lovely lake house
We had a blast and loved staying at a wonderful lake house with my family. The house is beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The owners are very kind, responsive, and very much helpful during our stay. The house has everything you need; canoe, kayaks, rowboat, pedal boat, fishing poles, BBQ grill, fire pit, very strong wifi, etc. There are lots of thoughts into the details (e.g. they had everything needed for S'more for us, which our kids loved!), which made all the difference.
Highly recommended, and we're looking forward to coming back!

Amazing!!!
The host of this property thought of everything to make our stay beyond enjoyable. From the well stocked toy chest for my youngest, to every floatation and boat type for my oldest. The property was a parents dream, easy snacktime and mealtime by the lake, thanks to a excellent and well appointed kitchen, amazing views and a shallow entry that allowed every age group to enjoy the lake.
We stayed during the hottest days of the year so far and the house was comfortable and cool during the day and night.
We loved the bath tub upstairs and showers were excellent in the basement and first floor. They were perfect ways to end the day!
The owners thought of so many small details to make your stay enjoyable, chalk board counter top, s’mores equipment with a great fire pit, wine bottle storage in the fridge, the list was endless!
Finally, the host of the house, we’re amazing to deal with, great communications and quick responses!!!
We plan on coming back next year and hopefully staying much longer.

Awesome Family Lake House
Christine's lake house is perfect for one or two families to get away with kids. The house was spotless and there was so much to do at the house, even though we had horrible weather, my kids never got bored! We're hoping to go back soon!

Idyllic getaway
This is a beautiful home located in a beautiful setting. Steps from a sandy beach on a stunning lake, surrounded by trees, lilacs, and an adorable next-door-doggo, this was an ideal place for us to unwind and recharge. The kayaks got a lot of use, as did the lovely deck and firepit.

Super clean and cozy ski getaway
We had a great week at Christine’s lake house. It was the cleanest property we’ve ever rented and super close to Otis Ridge, which made skiing with the kids a blast. We loved the view of the frozen lake every morning and the driveway was perfect for sledding. We’d love to visit during the summer to check out the lake. We would definitely rent here again!

Big Pond Retreat/Ski weekend
This place is awesome - it has a great open floor plan where everyone can hang out - plenty of space for 8 (we are a family of 8 - ages 5 months to 60 years) people to enjoy each others company weather you are watching TV in the LR or hanging at the Kitchen Island or eating at the dining room table - but if you need a little quiet time you can find areas of privacy on the 3 floors - my grandson and granddaughter loved the kids play room downstairs - the place was spotless and all details of the place are explained in the owners helpful welcome booklet - the lake was frozen over so we did some ice skating - we also skied at Butternut (about a 20 minute ride) - this place is everything the owners advertise it to be and more - communicating with Christine was easy and delightful - we will definitely look to stay here again on our next trip to the Berkshires
