By piling rocks and boulders across the river in a distinctive "V" shape, the Cherokee were able to trap and catch fish as they swam into the "V."

This home met all of our expectations! The house is massive and very welcoming. Even the landscaping is on point. Sitting along the river was very relaxing after a long day. The theater room and pool table was an added bonus for the younger ones. This was an easy 5 star property.

We had a very good staycation at his house. The house is clean, thoughtfully decorated and right across the river. Beautiful view and tons of things to do. We had a very good time.
Only feedback is that the Outisde grill had very less light at night. That can be improved. Otherwise, everything else was great.

Our family had a great time at the BIG KAHUNA Lodge! Everything was perfect! I highly recommend this location and property for making great family memories!

Beautiful cabin and accommodations! Our family goes every year to Blue Ridge,Big Kahuna was by far the best cabin we have ever stayed at! It was a big plus having the river right out front. Great place to fish and build a fire. The cabin has everything you need to cook with, which we have never had with a rental. The beds were so comfortable! The kitchen was big and spacious. The dining table sat all of my family. We are definitely renting again next year. I give more than 5 stars!!!

This house is wonderful for a group, with so much space indoors and out! We had four couples, so the separate bedrooms were perfect. The fall foliage in the Fish Trap Trail neighborhood area was some of the best we saw anywhere. And this location provided easy access for us up to Ocoee and down to Amicalola. Blue Ridge is an easy 15 minute drive away, and has great restaurants sand shopping. We highly recommend this place for any group wanting to enjoy the river and the scenery with plenty of comfortable space for a large group. Our stay was wonderful!

This was our second time to stay at Big Kahuna and we absolutely love everything about it! It is spacious enough for everyone to have their own space and the host is absolutely amazing and accommodating! We will be back!

The property is very Nice, but We really did not get to enjoy it like we planned, The first night the main fuse for the hot tub tripped, and all the electrical circuits in the main bed room tripped when I plugged in and used a small heater under the desk while I did some paperwork. The host contacted me and addressed it the next day. Then the 2nd day that the Heat for the basement went out so the people had to endure the frigid temps. Then on the 24th of Dec. the water line froze up even though we had the water faucets open. We waited over five hours that day and even tried to assist in a resolution but with the weather temp was not improving, the large group we had and the inability to cook, bath or use the restrooms as needed. We had to leave. We paid for 5 days but was only able to stay 3 days. I tried to speak with the host to get a refund or get a credit to be used at later date, but I was told since we left early there was no recourse. Note I did address that the weather condition wasn’t improving and we were never at anytime offer any water or way to get water, so that we could do what we needed to do , I asked what were we supposed to do……So I say to all, this is indeed is a very lovely place, the pit falls leave a very bad taste in my mouth.

If you're looking for an amazing weekend getaway this is the place! Just steps from the river with amazing views we all LOVED this cabin! We all work very odd day's during the summer and wanted a quick and easy getaway and this was the PERFECT place for it. We are located in Asheville so the drive wasn't bad and finding the cabin was a breeze.
The pictures are amazing but just walking into the place is even better! Being right on the river was amazing and so peaceful. The town of Blue Ridge was a quick 20 minute drive down the road and was a nice place to step away for a bit.
Cell service is spotty but that was what made this even better to just unplug a little.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the weekend and definitely are going to make this an annual trip for our group of friends!

Short Notice Family Chill Week
What a beautiful cabin nestled in the woods on the river. The kids (all in college) needed a mental break and a place to chill. Amazingly all 3 had the same week off. Lucky to find this clean, spacious and well equiped cabin. We all loved every minute there.

Beautiful getaway on the river!
Big Kahuna River Lodge was the perfect mix of a get away in a beautiful home with tons of space for large groups to spread out or get together. The pictures were true to life with 4100 square feet in the 3 floors that still came off cozy, welcoming and clean! The teenagers and tween were having a ball on the first floor with the large screen and sectional couch with the pool table. All the kids learned to play pool.. great memories made. The adults mainly used the huge open kitchen, massive live edge dining room table/ area and the inviting living room area. Yet the bedrooms were large and inviting enough to spend a little quite time when needed/ wanted or when it was time to turn in. There was still tons of patio nooks to take in the stunning views, or enjoy a fire pit or fireplace all together or times when certain members of the group want to break away and enjoy a moment on their own. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet both inside and out. The 350 feet on the water was another huge amazing bonus, between the hammock, Adirondack chairs, swing and multiple fire pits! It truly was a lodge for your own group! Driveway takes a little getting use to but it is paved and you have the option to park at the base of the driveway with two spots on gravel. Kitchen had every instrument you could imagine.. just bring your own spices, sugar, etc. Walmart is nearby and Ingles super market is also close! You can cook but still feel a part of the group!
We enjoyed the town if Blue Ridge doing and resteraunts... short drive and lots of options.
Plenty of towels, wash cloths, hand towels in bathrooms! Full size washer and dryer to take care of anything in between your trip. Staying in the spring, there are days we woke up to 20 degrees to 50 degrees weather outside. Not having full control of the 3 nests was a little unusual for a lodge of this caliber and price.. most times, a text to Jennifer would typically fix the issue. Summer and winter months, there should not be an issue for that.
Otherwise, just an amazing paradise! Book this getaway.. you won't regret it! Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home, Scott and Melinda! Thank you, Jennifer, for your help during our stay!

An unbelievable getaway!
The moment we walked inside, we were thrilled with what we saw-the interior, the views, the proximity to the river and attention to detail!
The cabin was so nicely decorated and it offered everything! We enjoyed the swing & chairs by the river, the hot tub, hammock, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, theater room and pool table! Simply wonderful!

Amazing!!
We had a really great time in this cabin, it had everything we were looking for and more. I had a few questions when we first arrived and the response time was incredible. The only minor issue we had were the towels, they had a small stench even after washing them. Other than that everything is perfect. We will definitely stay here again.

Fabulous Ladies' Weekend for 7
It rained all weekend, and yet we had a wonderful time at the Big Kahuna Lodge. We enjoyed cooking, drinking, eating, soaking, drinking, watching the Braves, doing puzzles, talking, drinking, enjoying the fire pits, and playing games together. The house was clean and cozy; had a hard time crawling out of the comfortable beds in the morning. We appreciated the complimentary ice and wine. Jennifer was very responsive during the whole process, from answering questions prior to booking to getting us help for some of the technology in the home upon arrival. Mostly, I want to thank her for going over and above what was expected. The stupid Waze app led one of my guests the wrong way down a dirt road as she was leaving the cabin and her van got stuck in the mud; Jen called some friends nearby who were able to tow her out within an hour. She deserves 10 stars for that kindness.

Exceptional
This property was amazing the first time we stayed but now it is almost perfect after the new owner came in and upgraded so much. Every room, deck, etc. is made for relaxation and socializing with others staying at the cabin. Even the riverside invites hours of relaxing with the fire pit, deck, etc. I seriously can't say enough good about this place. It could be half as maintained than it is today and I'd still have to think hard about renting any other cabin in the area, and I've seen quite a few in the Blue Ridge area. The owner was almost immediately available to answer my questions when I had any. Love this place!

We had a great time even though it rained every day but one. Shopped in Blue ridge. Our husbands tried to fish but the river current was to swift, but they still had fun. House has a spectacular view. Enjoyed

** WOW!! **
What an amazing find this lodge is! Such a spacious and beautiful get-away for our post pandemic family vacation. I cannot say enough about the luxurious and **clean** accommodations. My family loves to cook, and were happy to find the kitchen stocked with whatever ware we needed. We grilled on the outdoor grill built into the deck, and cooked on the firepit by the river. We ate and played games on the deck and had plenty of room to seat indoors and out. We relaxed by the river on the dock, the Adirondack chairs, the swing -- and played lawn games along the generous river frontage. We enjoyed evenings by the outdoor fireplace on the deck, and soaked in the hot tub. We played pool, video games and watched movies in the theater room. Of note, the driveway is super steep, and there is a private dirt road that runs along the river - between the lodge and the property - since there are homes all along the river. There were a surprising number of vehicles that passed through - very slowly, and usually with a friendly wave, but I thought it worth mentioning. (They were doing tree work down the road several days during our stay, which involved lots of loud beeping as it slowly backed up or down the road since it couldn't turn around, but I imagine that is not regular occurrence. ) There was a family staying across the river that we could see and hear, and there are homes on either side of the property as well - but the 375 feet of private river frontage greatly added to the privacy, as did all the trees surrounding the lodge. Folks we ran into on our walks were all friendly, and the area certainly had a welcoming vibe. It only took about 20 minutes to get to Blue Ridge to shop for groceries. We spent most of our time relaxing at the lodge, but I would recommend visiting the Ocoee Whitewater Center, near Ducktown, TN (the canoe slalom venue for the 1996 Summer Olympics) Beautifully shaded hiking trail along the river there, and we enjoyed exploring the rocks and water, and cooled off in the swimming holes. We also took a rainy day visit to the country market at Mercier Orchard. All in all a wonderfully relaxing and memorable stay.

Dirty!
House floors, bathroom, and thru out the whole house dirt dust, grease on pots and pans in cabinets.
Terrible smell in master bedroom.
Floors turned socks black!
Hot, air conditioner lowest settings 74 degrees, goes up after sitting for very short time to 78 degrees. Woke up after first night stay to smell of gas in living, dining area. Made the call she came out and turned gas off to fireplaces and to the grill after we said we were going to using it. (not friendly at all. Almost accused us for using the fireplace) THAT NEVER happened.
Washing machine smells like sewer. Sour smell in master on main.
I would not recommend anyone to stay here! Unless you are prepared
To clean before you stay.
I feel I should get refunded the cleaning fee!!

Everything we needed and then some!
My family had the most wonderful and memorable stay at the Lodge, I would give it additional stars if I could. The Lodge is beautifully appointed and decorated with a well stocked kitchen and provided beautiful views of the lower lawn and river. You can't help but stare at the view from multiple vantage points, especially when the geese and goslings are roaming around. Furniture is comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the downstairs theater on rainy nights as well as the pool table- my husband taught my son to play pool- another memory for the books! The lodge is so close to many activities that we enjoyed, boating on Lake Blue Ridge, ziplining, berry picking at Mercier Orchard (don't miss the Orchard and store!), spending the day at the rocks and pools at the Ocoee Whitewater Center, hiking nearby, and tubing in the river just behind the lodge, (we put in upriver and floated right to the house!) We also loved having the hot tub after a long day of activities. The lodge provides so many reading nooks and sitting areas both in and out which is perfect for desired privacy or company. We could sit or swing at the rivers edge and wave to the train across the river. As far as food, the Black Sheep Restaurant is a must! The food and service are top notch, another high recommendation is the Toccoa Riverside Restaurant for the river views and the trout. When you need a vacation house to be the perfect family getaway because getting everyone together is more difficult than it used to be, this is the place!! We will definitely be back!

Lovely peaceful respite
Beautiful home. Lovely location right on the Toccoa river. Quiet, isolated. We were 8 - perfect number although could accommodate a few more. Towns within 15 min drive with restaurants and shops, but everything you need to cook at the house. Lots of different options for lazing around and catching up on reading. Large hottub for 6. Kayaks for floating on the river, but start upriver at the Tammen Park boat launch and drift right to the house! Would come back. Perfect escape in time of Covid for vaccinated family friends.
