About this house rental
Leave the stress of everyday life behind and enjoy the peacefulness of a passing tall masted sailboat, watch the sun rise, feel the ocean breeze and take in all the coast of Maine has to offer. A stay at Schooners Landing will surely make your vacation one of your most memorable. Located on over five private acres with 300 feet of shore frontage in the charming village of Owls Head, just minutes from Camden, Rockport, Rockland, museums, shops, restaurants and lighthouses, our home affords you a perfect destination for a family gathering or a get together of friends. With three levels, everyone can have their own space yet share memories laughing and visiting together. There are water and lighthouse views from every room.
We rent our home only from Saturday to Saturday May 1st through November 1st. After November 1st we can be flexible on requested dates.
Enjoy the many summer festivals or come for the 4th of July and sit on the deck and take in the fireworks going off over the harbor! We are blessed with a peaceful and tranquil spot on the water, yet very close to wonderful places to hike, swim, bike, golf, shop, dine, farmer's markets and three major chain grocery stores so you don't need to buy your supplies at the local gas station. :-)
The modern house which was built with characteristic New England charm, is classic shingle-style architecture with much detailed interior woodwork and three stories containing approximately 5,000 square feet of living space with large oversized rooms. Windows and decks take in the spectacular sunrises, passing sail boats, lobster boats pulling up their traps just off the front deck and lighthouses. Rockland harbor to the north is home to the country's largest fleet of tall masted sailing ships and many pass by the house each day. The house sits at the end of a 750 foot long driveway. A small stream runs year round through the property through evergreens and apple trees. The house is private yet not isolated like many Maine homes that force you to take a lengthy drive to shopping, dining or just to get milk. We are also blessed to be on a city water line so water pressure and excellent water quality, which are so often issues at many homes in Maine with well water, are not an issue at our home.
You enter through an antique leaded glass and oak door and as you stand in the large entryway, to your left through double glass doors is the formal dining room with seating for eight with a side door to a pantry area and the kitchen. The library/den is on your right. Straight ahead is the kitchen with a large eating area, granite counter tops, sitting area, smart tv, gas log stove with antique oak mantle, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, five burner Viking gas cooktop, electric oven, KitchenAid mixer, over 50 cookbooks, lighted cabinets with leaded glass doors, microwave, small wine refrigerator, lobster pots, etc. and everything else you need to cook a gourmet meal. The kitchen area looks through curved windows out over the lawn to the water. There is also a six foot round table from Windsor Chairmakers in Lincolnville, Maine with seating for 6. Also straight ahead on the main floor is the living room with an antique marble fireplace, writing desk, two large couches, large binoculars mounted on a tripod, smart TV and sliding doors out to the curved 40 foot wide deck with great views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse, Seal Rock, Penobscot Bay and seating for 12. Also on the main floor is the primary bedroom, which opens to the deck. This bedroom has a king size bed, sitting area with upholstered rockers, windows on three sides with wonderful views of the water, two walk in closets and two baths; one with a whirlpool tub, the other with a steam shower. Also on the main floor is the laundry area, the library/den with oak bookcases, desk, printer/fax and a couch to sit back on and look out over the water and enjoy a good book. There are also over 600 books at the house if you enjoy relaxing with a good book. The library cabinets contain over 40 board games, puzzles, etc.
The second floor has two oversize bedrooms and a large sitting area with smart tv, DVD player and book case. Each bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed. Each bedroom also has its own bath with marble floors and oversized marble showers. Both bedrooms and the sitting area have lighthouse and water views. The second floor also has two decks, one with ocean views and one facing west with a seating area perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon or watching the sunsets.
The lower level has a fourth bedroom with a king size four poster bed and built in bookcase with smart television and windows all with water views, a large game room with pool table, Foosball table, antique bar, mini refrigerator, futon, two arcade games, round table for playing cards or doing puzzles, bookcase, electric fireplace, stereo and plenty of windows with water views and a double glass door opening to a stone patio with a swing and plenty of seating. Also in the lower level is our lodge room (a replica of a long cabin living room), an acoustically designed home theater with two levels of seating, a 75 inch smart television and DVD player. Lastly, on this level is a full bath with a two person whirlpool tub with 14 air jets plus marble shower with a rain shower. We provide top quality towels, bedding, furnishings, kitchenware and appliances. You are renting a luxury home and we want you to feel pampered. You will be on vacation and it should feel special. This is not a "rental property" managed by an agency with multiple properties and it is not a "rental" owned by absentee owners who live a thousand miles away and is neglected with numerous maintenance issues. We offer this home every summer to families who want to experience a waterfront residence and have a memorable get together of family and friends. We offer hospitality. We are not in the "rental home" business. We care about our guests and their experiences and our guests appreciate that we care about their enjoyment. The reviews left by our guests reflect our commitment to families having an enjoyable stay.
At Schooners Landing you can enjoy walking along the rocky shore looking for seaglass or launching your kayak. You can also enjoy tranquil evenings sitting around our propane fire pit in the lawn by the water with seating for 8. We provide bicycles, golf clubs, fishing poles, tennis rackets, corn hole and plenty of outdoor games. Enjoy a walk through the grounds or play Frisbee golf on our 9 hole (6 goal) Frisbee golf course. We love children and provide dozens of things to keep the little ones occupied, such as children's movies, children's books, puzzles, games, toys, etc. If you have infants or toddlers, we provide cribs, a high chair, baby monitor, strollers, playpen, car seat, bed rails, etc. If you have golfers in your group, we are just 10 minutes away from one of the most beautiful seaside golf courses in New England at the Samoset Resort. (www.samosetresort.com) We also offer our guests golf privileges at Boothbay Harbor Country Club voted "Best Golf Course in Maine" the past 3 years (www.Boothbayharborcc.com) and there are other public courses in the area as well.
There is also a caretaker's apartment available above the three car garage for an additional $650 per week. This apartment has a queen size bed, queen size sofa bed, its own kitchen/eating area with full size appliances and bathroom with shower. The apartment has a television, a stereo and views of the water.

We have over 70% of our summer weeks reserved each summer by returning families. We have over 25 years experience providing memorable family vacations and our goal is to exceed your expectations. You will never feel that you are in a typical rental home. We want you instead to feel as though friends with a home on the coast of Maine have offered you the use of their house for your family vacation. We walked into what could have been our own (dream) home. Clean and welcoming with every possible need taken care of. I chose this house because it perfectly accommodated our extended family (4 couples, 5 grandchildren). The location with views left us pinching ourselves daily. We have enjoyed visiting mid coast Maine for decades but this gave us the opportunity to experience the wonder together.

My family, ages 6-65, had the pleasure of staying at Schooner’s Landing in Owls Head, Maine. We fell in love with the home & property during our week’s stay. Paula was an exceptional communicator and host. We have stayed at many VRBO’s across the US, & she topped them all! We were greeted with a gift bag of goodies, upon arrival. The home was exceptionally clean & comfortable. We enjoyed cooking, playing board games, playing pool & foose ball, and doing crafts on the back porch. And, we collected shells and sea glass during low tide. The home is located in a perfect spot to reach daily excursions and good restaurants. We highly recommend this lovely place.

By far this is the best vacation we have had. Paula our host went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The house was well worth it, looks better than the pictures. Location is perfect to everything but still very private. We are hopeful that we will be going back soon.

We celebrated our 40th Anniversary with our family in this wonderful house! The photos are just a glimpse of how perfect the house is, particularly for a group of 10 with young children!
The owners have thought of EVERYTHING…..fully stocked kitchen….highchair, crib, baby gates, games, movies for the awesome movie room….the playground is such a nice addition for the children!
The fire pit by the water is a lovely spot…the deck in the afternoons when children are napping is so peaceful!
The house is in a great location for exploring the beautiful sights in Maine!

House is marvelous with an equally exceptional view. We were fortunate to meet the owners who are delightful and available if there were any issue, of which there were none. We plan to stay again at this fabulous home on the coast of Maine.

This is a very special place and will remain in our family's hearts forever! The other ratings are spot on in that the owner went above and beyond to make our stay a wonderful experience. Thank you for allowing our family to experience Maine in a way that made us feel like locals; from watching the the sunrise from our beds in the morning, to looking down on the bay from Mt. Battie, to getting Lobster from Jess's market, making our own side dishes in a wonderful kitchen and having a wonderful Lobster dinner at home while looking out at the Schooners and the Lobster boats in the Bay. Just Magical!! Thank-you!!

This home had it all: serenely beautiful views; large quiet grounds right on the waterfront; a well designed and perfectly maintained home; comfortable furnishings and beds throughout, to many entertainment options provided to list and most of all a caring professional proactive owner in Paula who genuinely cares about her renters having a good time. A 10+ rental and easily one of the best larger home rentals we have done in over 40 years of travel. Many thanks to Paula for ensuring we had such a good time!!

We can't recommend this wonderful property enough! Our hosts, Paula & Michael went above and beyond with genuine concern about our stay. They were available 24/7 with any question or need - that's pretty wonderful in this day and age. Over the years, we've stayed in many houses on the East Coast but never saw such generosity and level of amenities as the Robinson's provided. Thank you Paula & Michael for providing such a beautiful home to share!!

Three generations our family gathered at this wonderful home for Thanksgiving week... ages 4-72!! This property is not just beautiful - it is stunningly so!! But more importantly - at least to all of us - the hosts have done everything possible to make sure everyone who enters feels welcome and comfortable. They provide everything needed to ensure that people of all ages have a GREAT experience. And they make sure you understand that they are available to answer any questions. Other hosts could learn from them that this is the way things should be done! Thank you Paula and Michael!!!

This property is spectacular, even better than the online photos. The owners are very responsive to any issues and the home is just gorgeous. There were seven of us, ages 17 to 79 and all were comfy. The teen loved the downstairs game room and the theater with real movie theater seats. The deck overlooks a lovely bay and we saw birds and boats from morning till night.

Every part of this vacation vas amazing! Working with the homeowner - Paula was amazing! She truly made us feel as though we were family staying in her home! The house is absolutely amazing! just as listed! When you turn in the driveway you will be met with an absolutely amazing view as the home sits on a private lot and have a suburb view of the bay! When we stepped in the house we were greeted with a wonderful basket of treats, a home that was immaculately cleaned and ready for our stay. I have never stayed in a home that had everything you would need - from the kitchen, game room, outdoor toys, etc. we had a blast and did not need a thing! Thank you Paula! We hope to be able to return again.

Property was extremely well maintained outfitted in terms of the basics like towels, blankets and kitchen supplies. There were also bikes, golf clubs, strollers, badminton sets, etc., that were easily accessible. The whole house is thoughtfully set up for renters. The owner was very hands on and responded within minutes to all inquiries. Plus, the view is great, regardless of weather.

Everything about our experience was amazing. The house is incredibly comfortable. We had 8 people and there was ample room for congregation and for getting away into our own spaces when we needed. The house is also beautifully situated, and incredibly well appointed. I'm usually hesitant about rented house as someone who likes to cook a lot, but the home features pretty much everything you could need. Everything was done very thoughtfully, and it really pays off in the guest experience. I will also say that the owner is tremendously gracious and very communicative. We all look forward to returning soon!

Our multi-generational family had a wonderful time staying at Schooner's Landing! The house was clean, spacious, and well-stocked. The hosts are wonderfully accommodating, providing information about the area, the house, and our special interests. I feel like I have connected with a new friend!

Location, location, location. Comfort, convenience, cleanliness. expectations. The attention to detail that has been highlighted in other reviews is real. Every corner of this property is outfitted to ensure that guests have everything they need. Examples: Her walk-in closet in master suite, fully emptied, with four sets of different types of hangers (silk, plastic, trousers, etc) for different clothes (who does that!?); kitchen with every possible appliance and kitchen tool and cooking pots and pans; four-door refrigerator immaculately cleaned and fully emptied from prior tenant; outdoor lights on a timer; washer and dryer (new and large machines) in unobtrusive closet outside master suite...I could go on and on. There's a beautiful harmony achieved between a decorated home and a pristine hotel-like reception for each guest (the abundance of fresh towels, the emptied closets and fridge). The game room. in the basement, both in contents and decor, and the "movie theater" with the enormous cinema-style chairs and screen meant that our teens were occupied even on rainy days; the Alexas in the main area and master bedroom were a hit. But perhaps the most unforgettable aspect of this property is the kindness and willingness of the hosts to be available for their guests. Examples:. I texted Paula, the brains behind the organization of the house, to find out where we could go play basketball. Less than 2 minutes later, I had explicit directions to two area basketball courts. A number of other similar examples. Upon returning to our home, we learned from our hosts that we had left behind a few items of clothing, etc. Within three days of our departure, a package arrived in our home with the forgotten items! We were left with such a wonderful feeling of being cared for!! We kept saying: how do we get on the hosts' "good list" so we can return as often as we can! :)

The pictures do not do justice to this home and property. There is a WOW factor just turning into the long driveway and another walking into the front door. The amenities and decor are extensive and well executed providing an extensively peaceful and calming environment. And then there is the ocean.......

Our family group just ended our week at Schooners Landing and I cannot do justice in this short review to all the superlatives we found . But, let me "bullet-point" just a few to convey
how positive we found the experience:
* Paula, the proactive owner/manager made the entire rental
process easy from booking to departure, including providing
much information about the property and things to do,
experience and eat in the area.
* The house was immaculate, beautifully decorated and
comfortably furnished in all the many living spaces,
kitchen/dining areas and bedrooms. If anything, the photos in
the listing do not convey the unusually high level of
appointments.
* The house is set on a very large, private, grassed waterfront
lot, with a patio, decks and balcony to allow maximum access
to the incredible view. Lawn chair groupings and a gas fire
pit are well placed near the rocks on the waterline.
* Large screen internet-capable TV's, and Smart Speakers
and located throughout the house. Yes, there is a fully
equipped home theater in the lower level, together with pool
table, foosball table, books, games, and DVD's.
* Many bicycles in various sizes, tennis, golf and frisbee
equipment, and even jogging strollers are provided for
guest's use, plus a playground.
* Perhaps most amazingly, all of this space and privacy does
not come at the cost of proximity to the places one wants to
go. The finest restaurants (and Farnsworth Museum, shops
and sights) in Rockland and Owls Head are 5 minutes away by
car. Rockport, Thomaston and Spruce Head Island
(McLoon's Lobster Shack) are another few minutes.

This property was a perfect set up for our 60th Birthday getaway. My husband & sister were both turning 60 and this was the 1st time our family has been able to get together since the pandemic. The location was great, the views amazing (especially the Sunrise!) and the property has so many extras to offer! The weather in April is always unpredictable in the NE and we were able to experience a spring Nor'easter, which was kind of cool! Luckily the property had a entertainment area with a theater room, pool table, arcade games. The area has a lot to offer, but it was also great to be able to just hang out and enjoy the property like it was our home. I Will definitely recommend this property and hopefully plan a return visit. Cheers to the owner Paula who goes the extra mile to make sure your stay is perfect! Best, Lori Brennan

We had an excellent time staying at this beautiful home in April. The temperatures were seasonably cool but this did not damper the views of the Rockland Breakwater, lobster boats, the island ferries and our frequent sightings of the seals on Seal Ledge. Our kids spent countless hours combing the beach, and the house was conveniently located near area parks for additional hiking and exploration. The house had ample space for everyone and the kitchen was a frequent hangout as we prepared meals and visited with family as we enjoyed the views of Penobscot Bay by the comfort of the gas fireplace. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

This home was immaculate and had absolutely EVERYTHING you would ever need for an amazing vacation no matter what age. Just incredible. The owner was very attentive, gracious and tbought , we will definitely be back! We can’t even imagine the magic that comes along with this place in the summer when you can really utilize all of it. Highly recommend this property!!!

My family of 4, with 2 daughters ages 10 and 7, stayed at Schooners Landing the week of February vacation. We usually jet off to somewhere but decided to stay in New England for the brake. It turned out to be the most relaxing vacation we've ever had!The house was jaw dropping, you can't get enough of the view. And the owners have ensured you have everything you could possibly want in a rental. From a stocked kitchen, to cozy blankets nearby every seating area, to smart TVs, to binoculars in every window sill so you don't miss that bald eagle flying by the window. My girls were never bored, using the arcade games, pool table, theater room, iSpy game provided to them by the owners and pretend playing they were royalty all week. The parents mostly read books and stared off to the sea. A working firepit was a fun added touch in the yard, we used it while the kids searched for seaglass on the rocky coast right out front. At first we thought the house may be too big for just the 4 of us but we quickly settled in to enjoy all the space! The owners went above and beyond making us feel welcome, checking in on our needs, welcome gifts to the girls, and a much appreciated lobster drop off! A delicious treat!Coming here in the summer must be spectacular but the winter was just as good, allowing us to be guilt-free lazy and just enjoy the house. We did venture off to ice skating at the MRC, Owls Head Lighthouse, Camden Snow Bowl, shopping downtown Rockland (don't miss the Puffin's Nest) and donuts at Willow Donuts..yum! But mostly stayed cozy inside all week and in heaven. We will definitely plan another trip there sometime soon!

We have rented homes all over the world. This is the first one that felt like home when we opened the door. The home is incredibly well stocked especially compared with the usual sterility of rentals. We went in winter, but for summer travelers, there is a garage that is well stocked with outdoor equipment from bikes to frisbee golf. I have already made arrangements to stay again next year at the same time. The owner was super responsive with everything. This was a very relaxing stay.
