About this house rental
Cottage End is a roomy, family vacation house I built for my children and their children. As a lifelong wood worker, I've filled the house with cherry and maple cabinets and ash floors with cherry accents, and exposed rafters under the cypress ceilings.
We're located on a narrow dirt road that has Clark Sound for a backdrop. We're on a dead end street so we have very little and very slow traffic. Most of the dirt (sand) street is single wide so neighbors readily pull over to let each other pass.
Cottage End has three bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom and a half bath in the laundry room downstairs.. The house sleeps 8 people comfortably. The master bedroom has a king bed. The master is downstairs and has an "open" shower with no curb or curtain. While it was not designed and built for a "handicap shower" it goes a long way in qualifying as Handicapped. There is also a long (6 foot) soaking tub. The two upstairs bedrooms each have a queen bed and a twin bed. One of the upstairs bedrooms also has a full size baby bed. One of my favorite things at Cottage End is the kitchen. With cherry cabinets all around, the large island contains the gas range and the island has seating on two sides. Cooking shrimp and grits while my family and friends around the island enjoy a glass of wine and conversation is my idea of a good time. We also have a screened porch in the rear. WIFI is available.
We're located on James Island and it's 12 minutes to Folly Beach and 14 minutes to downtown Charleston. Also, we're less than 10 minutes from James Island County Park where there are walking/biking trails, a climbing wall, dog park, and water park that the kids love. Also, there is a free water spray park for the little kids.
In considering renting my home, please be aware that I do not allow any parties, receptions, or other events that brings in multiple people and vehicles. My parking is limited and the neighbors do not appreciate large, loud events on this quiet street. I also do not allow pets
In the rear of my house is a one bedroom apartment that is rented to a group of friends from my home city, Greenville, SC. So, you might see a car parked on the right side of the house. There are several people in this group and sometimes they take advantage of their scheduled time and sometimes they don't. If you see one and have some questions about activities and places to eat, say hello. They'll be glad to answer your questions.

We enjoyed our stay at Miller’s beautiful home. Perfect set up for grandparents and son’s family of four. Really appreciated the kind neighbors across the street who allowed us to sit on their deck and enjoy the water.

Miller was an amazing host and so easy to communicate to offer help for issues even outside the home - true southern hospitality! The home was spacious and well maintained! We would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at Cottage End to celebrate my Mom's 80th Birthday as well as New Year 2024. The house was perfect, in a great quiet location near the water and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was central to both Charleston and some historic sites so perfect for our needs! Would definitely come again.

This James Island cottage was perfect for a small group. Great kitchen, beautiful neighborhood, plenty of bathrooms, washer/dryer, and 15 minutes from everything. The owner was very communicative and professional. Great experience!

The house was great. Met all our need plenty of dishes for cooking and nice quiet place to just relax with no one to bother you. Only negative was there are three different yellow jackets nests on the property one under front porch one out in front of hose pipe and one placated beside oak tree on left side of drive way. Outside also needed some TLC mosquitoes were pretty bad you could stay out very long.

The home was more than roomy and comfortable for 5 adults. It was a quiet street and a good location for our purposes. We really didn't spend a lot of time there.
The kitchen was well-equipped.
The owner was very pleasant to work with.

House was very clean and well equipped wifi worked great. Don’t know about TV since we didn’t turn it on.

The cottage was very comfortable and had tons of options for games if it was a rainy day and you were stuck inside. David was very easy to get in contact with!
15-18 mins to downtown Charleston, great location!
The only thing I would change is that even though there is a cleaning fee, you are required to clean all the towels and bedding.. I would remove the cleaning fee or make it less in price!

Cottage End is a lovely home tucked away in a quiet location with easy access to area attractions. We were in town for Recognition Weekend at The Citadel and made a last-minute decision to shift from three hotel rooms to a place where we could spend time together as a family. Cottage End was the perfect spot. This home offered plenty of space to gather while also providing ample privacy with bedrooms and bathrooms located in different areas of the house. The host, Miller, was delightful to talk to and very responsive. We highly recommend Cottage End for your Charleston vacation.

Cottage End is cozy but roomy, a quiet retreat but close to the sites and action in Folly and Charleston. A perfect place to base a low country getaway. And Miller is a responsive and accomodating host.

The house was an amazing property with great views and central location to Charleston, John’s island, Kiawah island.. and more. Beautiful woodwork and owners were great to work and communicate with! Highly recommend this home.

We found the house to be very nice with everything you would need to help it feel like your own home. The beautiful interior is done in a light stained wood which gives it a bright and pleasant feel.
The location is definitely a low country feel with easy access to Charleston, Folley beach or any of the attractions in the area. We really enjoyed our time at the house and in the area.
Thank you Steve Baker

Unfortunately the event was cancelled due to hurricane Ian that came through that weekend.
That being said though, the owner went above and beyond to make sure I was refunded all my money. And I was and received a full refund. I can’t wait to get there

This property was a great location for a long weekend for my family.

Communication was great. House was very clean and had plenty for our family of five. Kitchen, especially, had more than enough. Beds were comfortable and so was other furniture. Close enough to beach, downtown and groceries. Bonus was a fitness center only two miles away. Had a blast

Exactly As Advertised
We chose this property because of the long list of great reviews. It was exactly as expected. Host is great. Communicates well.
Home had literally everything you need for in-house use and cooking.
Very clean.
Beds were great.
It’s at the end of a road on James Island, tucked away near marshland. So just know that it’s super wooded.
If you’re wanting to lookout at the water you can see it from the front door but that’s it. Not much yard at all; again more wooded area.
If you want to do much outside the house you’re going to need heavy bug spray. But that’s the Lowcountry in general. Mosquitos are at a whole other level down there. However, there is a great screened in back porch for sitting outside.
And the host did a great job of showing you the privacy of the place. I love it when hosts show you outside images of the surroundings.
You are within 7 minutes drive of all sorts of main needs such as grocery and stores.
15 minutes or so to downtown Charleston.

Perfect location on James Island
The house was the best stocked rental we have ever had. The kitchen was a cook’s delight. Great house for friends or multiple families wanting to enjoy Charleston without the noise and business of the area.

Week on James Island
We loved our visit. Property is great and has everything you need. Great central location. Wish the back yard had been trimmed up some to have a better view of the water but view out the front door was really nice!

Our family enjoyed this space.

This house is beautiful and a wonderful home base for exploring the greater Charleston area. It was very well appointed and had a really nice layout for a family or large group. My kids really enjoyed the loft and open stairs, while my husband and I enjoyed lots of time on the screened-in back porch. We explored all over Charleston and the various islands that surround it and always appreciated coming "home" to such a comfortable spot. For the days we were too tired to roam far, James Island had some wonderful restaurants and an incredible park super close to the property. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Charleston.

Judging from the half mile dirt road entrance into the neighborhood, you would not expect to find such a great house which is just as it looks in the pictures but even nicer. Huge well stocked kitchen, great open living room area, big bedrooms each with its own bathroom, a wonderful screened in porch in which to eat. Too many extras to mention including a toilet seat bidet which is a treat especially if you have not used one before. Friendly neighbors (especially Skipper and Trey) give access to the water view (not the docks) across the street. 15 minutes to downtown Charleston. Miller, the owner, was very helpful and friendly in every way. The beds and furniture were especially comfortable. The art was neat and the house had family overtones with pictures of all. Plenty of parking and well supplied. 5 adults enjoyed ourselves completely celebrating the 75th B-day of two of us.

Great location, beautiful house.
The location on James Island worked out to be perfect for our time in Charleston. The owner went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable and checked in periodically leading up to and during our rental.

Five college girlfriends enjoyed the hospitality of this warm and inviting home for 5 nights! We had plenty of room, and this spacious home allowed us to visit and catch up.
Correspondence with the owner was great!
The view of the sound and the closeness to water was an added bonus ( not on water, but close), but there was a peaceful feeling in its location. It was an easy drive to downtown Charleston.!
Just a few miles to Folly Beach and seeing the Atlantic Ocean!
A wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the Cottage End. The host was most gracious in allowing us to reschedule our winter in the spring after a last minute change in travel plans. Cottage End is a comfortable, quit, beautiful and relaxing property. Downtown is a few minutes away but being able to escape away after a day of tourist stuff makes this place a all that more special.
