About this apartment rental
EXTRA CLEANING PROTOCOLS
Since the COVID 19 outbreak, we are taking extra precautions to keep our guests safe and making every effort to ensure a worry-free stay. We offer self check in, and have instituted extra cleaning protocols with extra cleaning and disinfecting on high-touch surfaces.
This cozy second floor apartment is next to Taughannock Falls State Park, which is home to one of the outstanding attractions of the northeast - 215' Taughannock Falls, which plunges past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400' above the gorge. This is the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi (33 feet higher than Niagara Falls). The location is perfect for outdoor activities and adventures including hiking the gorge trails and the Black Diamond Trail (which runs from Trumansburg to Ithaca along a former train route), biking, birding (we are located in the Cayuga Lake Basin), wine tasting, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, boating, and fishing. Hiking the park's rim trails provides dramatic views of the gorges formed by the ice age. Minutes from the Cayuga Wine Trail and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, which includes scenic wineries, distilleries, cideries and breweries. There are great restaurants nearby, many featuring free live music. Only ten miles to Ithaca and to Watkins Glen, and directly across the road from beautiful Taughannock Stream that flows into the waterfall. Wake up to the cheerful sound of songbirds and fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the stream across the road. Peaceful surroundings and beautiful gardens. And the night sky is perfect for stargazing!
Newly renovated smaller second floor apartment in owner's country home. Clean, cozy and comfortable, perfect for 1-2 people. The bedroom has a new queen size mattress, solid Amish-made oak dresser plus air conditioner. The cheerful sunroom/dining room has a cypress wood table and chairs (handmade by local Amish craftsmen) and looks out over the trees and expansive grounds and gardens. We call the apartment the Eagles Nest, since it sits above the magnolia trees and overlooks large silver maple and black walnut trees and several flower gardens. Our yard is 100% organic- no pesticides or herbicides. We have native plantings to attract the birds and the bees and butterflies. Several songbird and hummingbird feeders are always in use.
Inside there's a fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator, oven and range, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. In addition there's a newly tiled bathroom, a den with a loveseat and chair and 36" flat screen DirecTV with 150+ channels and second air conditioner, a walk-in closet, and high speed wireless internet connection. Linens, towels and soft cotton bedding and blankets are supplied, and several Metropolitan Museum of Art reproductions hang on the walls. Close to the quaint village of Trumansburg which offers boutique and art gallery shops, excellent restaurants, a large grocery store and liquor store, pharmacy, natural foods store and deli, pizzeria, bank, beautiful public library, used book store, vintage bowling alley/restaurant and laundromat.
There is also a new outdoor seating area with two chairs for our guests to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon aperitif.
We provide a Welcome Book for guests which highlights recommendations for locally owned businesses and restaurants. Sustainability related amenities include solar panel energy, recycling, and eco-friendly LED lighting. The historic house was built in 1850 and formerly owned by Robert Moog, who invented the synthesizer, and who invited many famous musicians to the home, i.e. the Beatles and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The house is included in a documentary about the life of Bob Moog, called "Electronic Voyager".
Regretfully, we are not handicapped accessible. Please note that for those with physical limitations, there are stairs leading up to this second floor apartment as shown in the photos. They are lit up with multiple solar lights to increase safety at night.

This was a great small apartment equipped with everything you need! Location was perfect to visit a lot of wineries and Watkins Glen. Beautiful property and the hosts were very nice and accessible. Would definitely recommend for anyone who doesn’t mind the steps. They were not a problem for us😃

Great place to come back to after visiting all the vineyards. We were able to walk from the property to Taughanock Falls, if you like hiking it’s definitely worth it. Loretta had great communication with us and the property is very well taken care of

Quiet location, beautiful setting, close to state park with hiking /waterfall and swimming, kayak rental on Cayuga lake ($9 to park for both falls and lake access). Can easily bike to the black diamond bike trail. Restaurants, ice cream, supermarket very close in Trumansburg. Ithaca about 15-20 minute easy drive.

The property was perfect for our needs. It was well maintained and very clean. We had a car trailer that needed a large driveway to pull in with ease. My husband also felt very secure that his car and trailer were safe on the property. We were able to tour the various waterfalls and parks in the area. It was very relacing.

Wonderfully landscaped and kept home. Surrounding area is great for getting outside, with the nearby state park and Watkins Glen close by. Will be back!

Great place to stay to check out both the Watkins Glen and Ithaca areas. Small, cozy space that had everything we needed. Loved the proximity to Taughannock Falls! We ran into Loretta & Steve a couple times as we were both coming and going - they were both very pleasant. There was a short power outage while we were out, and they were quick to communicate and ready to accommodate. We enjoyed our stay, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay. The property is small but suited us well as we were only 2 people. The quiet rural location worked well as we visited Taughannock State Park, Cornell Botanical Gardens, KNAPP Winery and Cayuga Lake. Very convenient to Trumansburg for both groceries and enjoyed fine dining at Hazelnut Kitchen and great pizza takeout from New York Pizzeria. Also had a great lunch on the patio at KNAPP Winery.

A very convenient location, especially when visiting Taughannock Falls State Park. The apartment is well maintained, cozy, and clean. The property has beautiful gardens, plenty of birds (for birdwatching), and is quiet and serene. We highly recommend.

It’s a perfect place to sleep with the window open. While I was there I could listen to the river across the street. The hot water took a while to come on in the shower and after the second day there wasn’t any hot water and had to take a couple cold showers. But other than that little problem it was quite the cozy place to stay. You might also occasionally run into the home owners but they are super kind and respectful. 9.75/10 :)

Everything that we needed in the property, good location for what we wanted to do in the Finger Lakes area and wonderful birds in the garden. Breakfasts at the the Falls Restaurant were great with a warm welcome. Book the Hazelnut Kitchen ahead if you want to go there. Moosewood in Ithaca was delicious.

This was a great place to stay for a long weekend where I spent time exploring around Cayuga and Senaca Lakes. Very clean. Hosts were incredibly friendly and responsive.

The apartment is definitely a little small, but it was fine for us for a few nights while we enjoyed local hiking and food. The property is beautiful and it's super close to hiking Taughannock. We loved the feeling of being lost in the woods! Loretta was super responsive and easy to work with. We barely heard the downstairs tenants (sorry for when we dropped a metal water bottle on the floor...)!

We had such a wonderful two nights at the Eagles Nest, Loretta was easy to coordinate with and thought of everything we could possibly need. The apartment was lovely and in such a good location, we spent tons of time at Taughannock Falls and an amazing afternoon at Watkins Glen. We couldn’t have been happier!

We had a very pleasant stay at this well-kept apartment. It had everything we needed, including toiletries and a well outfitted kitchen. It’s very quiet and remote but very close to Taughannock State Park, as advertised. We had family in Ithaca and another nearby State Park so it was very convenient for our family.

Wonderful 2 nights. Comfortable clean apartment. Water tastes terrible but the owner left a gallon of spring water in the fridge for coffee and drinking so it was no problem! The location can’t be beat. So many nearby sights to see, restaurants to eat at and hikes to take. Really appreciated the guest book full of information and recommendations. The property is so peaceful and the river right across the road alone is worth a scrabble around.

Comfortable, well-appointed apartment just beyond the west end of Taughannock park. You're almost in the park and minutes from the falls overlook. We stayed here for a wedding at the Taughannock Inn and drove to Ithaca for sightseeing and a boat ride (15 min away).

We had no problem finding our apartment and everything was available with towels, kitchenware and cleaning supplies to keep the area nice. We were close to all of the activities that we had on our list to do in the area as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience for our mini getaway.
