About this house rental
Note: The property next door is undergoing construction. It's off and on - however they are building a new house next door to the left of this home.
Nestled among the trees in the upscale Point Loma neighborhood, Point Loma Woods is a wonderful family getaway. The home is spacious with four bedrooms and three baths and an additional air mattress available that sleeps 2 people, a large living space and private garden with swimming pool. There is ample parking in the circular driveway for a number of cars.
The home is located on a tree-lined street just five minutes from Shelter Island, La Playa, Kellogg Beach and all the restaurants and shops of Point Loma to the East as well as the beaches at Sunset Cliffs and Ocean Beach which are just five minutes over the hill to the West. Head South to Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery and the Cabrillo Lighthouse. Spectacular views await you!
If you're interested in really heading South, Coronado and its charms await. The Living Coast Discovery Center (formerly Chula Vista Nature Center) is just west of Highway 5 (E Street exit) in Chula Vista and the Tijuana National Estuary Research Reserve and Border Field State Park are also places for terrific bird watching.
East a few minutes and you're at Liberty Station, Spanish Landing, Seaport Village and the many attractions along the harbor, including the Star of India and the Maritime Museum ships, the Midway Museum and harbor cruises. Continue East to Balboa Park and its many museums as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo.
Heading North, on Catalina Blvd., you'll encounter the Famosa Slough, one of many good places for bird watching. Just across the freeway (Highway 8) are Sea World and beautiful Mission Bay and Mission Beach - terrific for swimming and sailing. Heading further north, you'll find Torrey Pines State Beach in Del Mar, the San Diego Botanic Gardens (formerly Quail Gardens) in Encinitas and Legoland in Carlsbad. North along the coast are numerous beach communities and beautiful beaches.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
No Smoking is allowed inside any of our properties. You are welcome to smoke in outside areas of the home. Due to the moderate coastal climate, this house (like most in the area) does not have air conditioning.

Kids loved the pool. We loved watching them swim. Landscaping is beautiful and house is spacious, clean, and comfortable. Great place!

The house was a good size for our group. All of the adults had their own room and the kids had separate beds.
Location was amazing. Minutes walk to the marina and short drive to beaches and downtown.

We had a great visit in San Diego at this property, the best part was the backyard pool area! Be sure to pay the extra to have the pool heated though, we didn’t realize we would need it until after we arrived.
The house has an excellent layout for groups like ours with some extended family members - we had our own space and bathrooms. The only negative was that the house was more dated than it looks in the pictures (windows and bathrooms could use updating), but it was very clean. There is no air conditioning but there are plenty of fans which were great for us.
The location was great - easy access to beaches as well as down town. We didn’t know that this area of Point Loma can be affected by the marine layer for longer periods than the rest of San Diego, which can make the skies a bit dreary when only 1 mile away there would be sun.

We loved the property -- and the layout allowed for together or alone time.
Pool area was beautiful -- one update is that there was an odor -- I believe from the garbage disposal/sink. But the fresh lemons from the tree helped. No issue -- just wanted to raise it in case it continues.
We did request extra towels -- thank you.

The property was all that was described. It served as a perfect "home base" for our five days in San Diego as a "three generation family gathering" -- ages 29 to 86! There were ten of us staying there so we utilized all four bedrooms plus we used the provided inflatable bed in a corner of the living room which was spacious enough to allow that with no problem. We ate "in" only for breakfast and some lunches this time, but the kitchen seemed well equipped for most cooking projects. We chose not to have the pool heated although one couple swam a bit in the "cool" water! The weather was good -- not perfect for some of our chosen activities -- but warm enough that we enjoyed some morning meals out on the deck in the back -- great! The location is convenient -- hillier than we'd imagined, but not a problem -- and plenty of parking for our three cars. It was an easy drive to so many places to see and experience -- Balboa Park and all it has to offer, the Point Loma lighthouse, etc., the Midway aircraft carrier, plus lots of beaches -- and restaurants -- we enjoyed all those we tried! I'd certainly recommend this house -- there seemed to be no "downsides" about it!

We truly felt like we were at “grandmas house” for the holidays. It was cozy, spacious with plenty of space, comfortable, and with a large enough kitchen for our thanksgiving cooking! Once the pool finally heated up we spent a few of the days enjoying the pool by playing a big game of Marco Polo and laughing the whole time. The pool did heat up nicely, although the filter wasn’t working so it did get quite dirty. Overall, we had such a wonderful time doing a puzzle in the living room, enjoyed the pool tremendously, all had space to sleep, and loved the large kitchen for all our snacking. It was a quick and easy drive down to sunset cliffs, and a wonderful walk to Point Loma Nazarene to see the wonderful views. Thanks so much for such an amazing family trip 💛

We had a great time at this property, the pool was large and heated, lots of space (4BR) for multiple family groups, and a great stock of towels and toys for the pool. The only thing we would change would be that there is construction on the next door property so there is construction noise during the day (not the quiet oasis we thought we were getting).

This was the perfect location for proximity to PLNU’s graduation ceremony. Loved the outdoor space! Unfortunately we had to call about the pool heating on day 3 and didn’t get a response until after 3:00 pm. The layout and space in the home, as well as the parking are excellent. There is some overdue maintenance that should be attended to:
- handle for the toilet in the green bathroom pulls out of the side of the toilet.
- veneered wood doors are peeling.
- windows tend to slip out of their tracks and could use lubricant to help them slide.
- drains in bathrooms are slow.
I was a bit perturbed that the property manager denied my request for early check in and then refused entry to the home when we arrived 6 minutes before the 4:00 p.m. check-in time after a 10 hour drive to get there despite having their cleaning person pull up and enter the home to retrieve items from the freezer at the moment we arrived. The cleaning staff was willing to verify our identity and called the property manager to assist, but was told we could not enter until 4:00 p.m. (We we’re traveling with a 4 year old that needed to potty, and had to hold it just a bit longer for no real reason.)
Seating for meals and dinnerware/silverware were more than adequate for the number of guests staying onsite.

We really enjoyed the house and location. Close to the water front and mission beach. The house is a big mid-century California rambler. Plenty of room for a multi generational family stay.

We needed a place for family for my son's Graduation from USMC boot camp. It was a 15 minute drive from MCRD, very convenient. # of beds is accurate, we brought along a blow up mattress of our own. We also had a dog, it was great that the house was dog-friendly. Our only issue was the constant ant problem, which is pretty common in San Diego, they need a pest service. Other than that a great place to stay and a pretty good value.

The house has a great layout and overall its an amazing property. My family and I had a wonderful time, but just a few suggestions for the owner. We had to purchase our own propane for the barbecue and trash bags, which was kind of inconvenient when you're in the process of making dinner. Also, we didn't mind the dated bathrooms, it gave it a kind of fun retro vibe, but the beds were probably just as old and extremely soft and uncomfortable. The place really needs an overhaul when it comes to comfort.
Personally, I would find a new cleaning service and Gardner. It was rather dusty, full of cobwebs, and trash left in the windowsills. I can overlook the outdoor space especially with that fabulous pool, but my husband had to sweep, weed and clean the backyard in order for him to relax. Also, not sure what the pool guy did, he came for 5 min and left. we had to clean that as well - full of beetles and bugs. Honestly, we left the place cleaner than we arrived.
San Diego is our home town so we were going to enjoy ourselves no matter what. Just a few suggestions to really make it a 5 star resort.

We had such a great time at this property. It was well stocked with towels, blankets, pool toys, books/games/movies, kitchen ware. The layout is great, style is so cute, even the older style bathrooms! But the best part for us was the pool. It is bigger than it looks in the pics and has a deep end- kids loved it. Plenty of outdoor seating and umbrellas for shade. Just overall great. Would love to come back some time!

Comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood, easy to access all the fun San Diego has to offer
This home was perfect for our family of 5. The house was very clean and had everything we needed for the week we stayed there. The pool shed in the backyard has plenty of pool toys and boogie boards and beach chairs that are in good condition. Rental agency that manages this rental was helpful with questions and getting us additional baby items. We paid the extra to have to the pool heated and were glad we did that as the days we were in San Diego were cooler, but our kids had fun swimming all day. The home is in a beautiful area and located in close proximity to many attractions. We will stay here again.

A wonderful property
Everything worked very well for our gathering.
The neighbors locked their dog out one night and it barked all night long. Otherwise the stay was perfect.
I did forget to put the trash out to the curb, so I hope that the cleaners remedy that. Sorry.

Fun house- groovy house
Great house for a party of 9! Well stocked. Great landscaping. Great pool. Lots of toys. Clean and fun decor. Just watch out for the bottom oven. We burned everything we put in it! This is a wonderful place and we would gladly return! We had 2 dogs and they have a great fence to keep them safe!

Great family vacation spot
We had a wonderful time with our multigenerational family. The house was a superb fit for all of us. The kids especially loved the pool. The dining room comfortably accommodated all of us for family dinner. The location was great. We had a fun family vacation in San Diego.

The owners were just in it for the money!
We rented the house for two weeks. Great location but we had to pay $100.00 a day for pool they obviously turned it on that morning we had 6 adults 4 children and we planned on using it when ever we were there! Didn’t happen we had to keep calling to turn heat up then we found out they had it on a timer which it should of been taken off while we were there. Very frustrating having to call all the time when on holidays! Also we hade no heat in house till the last 3 days ! They said maintenance was in but we sent pictures to the head office of how we were heating the house using 2 ovens with doors open really safe right? Illegal to rent house with no heat!!! When we phoned head office they told us this place would be off the web page but it’s not!!! So obviously they are in it for the money too!

It was a bit of a time capsule but in a good way. It was perfect for our family and the kids loved the pool.

Great Stay in Point Loma San Diego!
We had a family reunion at a wedding and needed a house that was big enough for 10 people and had activities in close walk/drive range. This house was perfect! Clean, with a 70's vibe decor, it was spacious and had great amenities. There was a big dining seating area open to the living room. And the pool was perfect with a great safety fence and plenty of outdoor seating. A great supply of games, videos and books made it really easy to entertain all ages! The neighborhood was quiet and we felt the privacy but did not feel cut off from the neighbors. Beautiful lemon/lime trees on the property and our location was a few minutes drive to town and the local sites. There was a grocery store within walking distance so it was easy to stock up on basic supplies the first day we arrived. I would highly recommend this house for a big group stay!

The home is nice and works well for a family. It’s located close to the airport and attractions.
The property description didn’t state that the pool was heated by solar (for free), which led us to believe we had to pay ($100/day) to heat it. The property owner met us when we arrived and said he didn’t turn it on because the pool was 80 and didn’t want us to be charged. He was very nice and said his wife called the agency. I also emailed them and charges were reversed. The pool is large and deep, in fair condition, and heated well by the solar. There were 6 boogie boards, asstd sand toys and inflatable mats. All inflatables need replacing because they don’t hold air except 2 donut style. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the pool and barbecue. However, the barbecue was out of propane, as well as the extra tank in the shed. The agency didn’t have someone available to replace it, so we had to pay to exchange it and get reimbursed.
All the patio furniture had spider webs on the legs and under the seats. We cleaned them off with a broom but felt the cleaning service should pay better attention to details like that. Inside the house, we found 2 spiders in different rooms and cobwebs there as well. We could see a layer of dust on the recessed lighting (wood panels) along ceilings in all rooms.
There’s no air conditioning so you need to open windows for breeze. Most of the windows don’t have screens so we couldn’t open them. The shower in the hall bath by bedroom 2 doesn’t put out much water and temperature fluctuates. All showers need updating.
There was only 1 extra roll of toilet paper.
Overall, the house was fine. It’s dated, “retro 60’s” if that’s what you like. It was quaint. The TV service didn’t work well. It wasn’t even hooked up in bedroom 2. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils & cookware. We enjoyed our stay and don’t mean to be too critical, but the owners should know that the caretaking services are not up to par.

Point Loma Sanctuary
Our five night stay in Point Loma Woods was the perfect place for our large family to stay for our son's wedding. This mid-century modern home is a step back in time to the traditional San Diego classic home. There was plenty of bedroom space, and while quite dated, having three bathrooms was great. Our favorite part of the home was the beautiful patio and well-maintained pool (pool toys included!). The kitchen is well equipped for cooking as well as for indoor and outdoor dining. Close to the airport, and very convenient to shopping and restaurants. The property manager was responsive to our questions and requests. We appreciated the lovely and quiet neighborhood, respectful of the request to be good neighbors. What a wonderful time for our family -- we'll be back!
4.5
Nice place but poorly managed
In a very nice residential neighborhood this is a nice, spacious, quirky property where sometimes exquisite style triumphs over function. With a different management company, we would come back again. But it was the little things that drove our group of seven crazy. On our first Saturday evening meal, tired but happy to be together, we discovered that there were only 6 forks. Who’ll eat with a spoon, we laughed? There were 30 plates and 30 glasses but just 6 forks. There were other incidents like this that we soon discovered (no large frying pan, detergent issues etc.) that weighed on us. We came to have fun, not to head straight to the Dollar Store. Management later told me, “You should have called us, we would have brought you forks. You should have called us.” No, actually you should have been more attentive to this nice property.
Management failed at every turn. We paid over $4,000 for our week. Be advised though that a high chair will cost extra and that’s another $25 for the pack-and-play for an infant. Really?
The management company was nice enough to call me to ask if I had left my jacket there and would I like it returned? “Yes, thank you so much,” I said. “What’s your credit card number?” they said.
This is a property management company that doesn’t want us back. On the basis of our experience, we conclude that their operational philosophy is “one and done.”
