About this house rental
When it came to our family and Cape Charles, it was love at first sight. The peace and quiet, the beauty of the Bay, the warm sand of the beach, the friendly people and eclectic shops and restaurants... the town captured our hearts immediately. Our family (mom, dad, five kids, and a Bernese mountain dog named Yankee) has built a million cherished memories here, and we hope that you will too!
Cape Cottage is a clean, comfortable, charming Victorian... a perfect spot for your Cape Charles beach vacation! The peaceful downtown location leaves you just a short walk from shopping, restaurants, and (most importantly, as far as we are concerned) the beach.
The home has three bedrooms and two full baths. The living room has a comfortable sectional couch and a great TV for watching movies or sports. We love our dog and wouldn't want to vacation without her; we assume that if you have a dog, you want to bring him or her too!
The house has everything that you need to have a marvelous vacation -- the kitchen is spacious and stocked with all the pots, pans, dishes, and appliances that you have at home (coffee pot, Keurig, Nespresso -- did we mention that we are coffee people?). The house features cable TV (there are flat screen TVs in the living room and in two of the bedrooms), WiFi, central heat and AC, and on-demand hot water (so your whole crew can clean up without draining the tank!). New mattresses throughout the house will ensure a good night's sleep. The cleaning fee covers all linens and towels, so you won't have to bring those with you.
Outside, there is a wrap-around front porch with a porch swing and lounge chairs. In the back, there is a spacious back yard with lights, a portable fire-pit, a charcoal grill/smoker, and an outdoor dining set. Set up a round of corn-hole or horseshoes, throw something tasty on the grill, open a cold drink of your choice, and watch the time fly.
In the shed you'll find everything you need to have a great day on the water -- an adult and kid-sized stand-up paddle-boards, adults and kid-sized kayaks, beach chairs, toys, games, bicycles, and the family's pride and joy -- a 5 person surrey.
Cape Charles is a hidden gem. Whether you're into nature, wildlife, hiking, shopping, eating, water-sports, or just sitting on the beach reading a good book... we are sure that you are going to have a wonderful vacation!

House had so much to offer. We didn’t stay long enough to utilize all the fun things. Great location. Lots of space to hold large groups. Mike was super easy to work with. Answered questions in a timely fashion. We’ve stayed in several homes in Cape Charles and this was one of our favorites.

Plenty of space and beds for our family of 5. Large sectional in living room is so comfortable, offering a nice gathering spot for the family. Home is well stocked with towels, cookware, and paper supplies. The coffee bar with choice of Nespresso, keurig, and standard coffee brewing is awesome. The kids love the surrey and bikes, and mom appreciates the outdoor shower to rinse off the beach! But above all, pet friendly is most appreciated. There’s no dog fur on the furniture or carpets, the home is kept very clean. The owner is friendly and so easy to communicate with. We love staying here every summer.

We had the best long weekend here in Cape Charles. The property is lovely. For those traveling with young children, it's set up with all the bedrooms upstairs. The main bedroom and first bedroom are off the main hallway, and the second bedroom is through the first bedroom - however there is a second set of stairs from the second bedroom to the first floor, so no one is ever "trapped" by a bedroom. Sorry, that's a little hard to visualize but view photos for more perspective. We had 3 adults and 2 children (3 and 5) with us, and there was ample space. Major bonus: blackout curtains in the first bedroom so my kids didn't wake up with the sunrise!
We mostly ate in, and the kitchen was nicely stocked with cookware.
We found some beach chairs and an inflatable raft in the shed, along with a SUP (did not test this out but it was there).
I highly recommend a golf cart! It's a nice 10-15 walk to the beach and same distance to the brewery, but it was really fun to drive around the town.
Host was kind and responsive. Check-in and check out were a breeze. We really enjoyed this and hope to be back again next year.

The house needs updating. The kitchen floors need to be changed. The bathroom sink needs to be fixed, the stove needs to be cleaned. The beds were nicely done when we arrived but the mattresses need to be changed. Over-all, we enjoyed our stay, it was a nice neighborhood. Beach, church and shops were nearby.

We had a wonderful vacation at this house! With 3 kids under 5 and a dog, not all homes can accommodate, but this house sure DID!
The living space and dining areas were open and comfortable, and the bedrooms were cozy. The location is great-we walked to the park multiple times for the kids and the dog to enjoy!
The only negative we had was the mountain of trash that was overflowing the trashcan when we arrived was very smelly and brought a lot of flies. Unfortunately trash pickup didn’t happen until we had already been there for a couple days.
Overall we loved it. Lots of good memories were made during our stay!

Property was dated! Showers are functional but definitely not luxurious! But, the house has a lot of charm. Landscaping could DEFINITELY BE ADDRESSED! And the keyless entry was so temperamental a few times I thought we weren’t going to get in. A little TLC would have gone a long way. Also, no instructions in house for check out procedures or if there was I could not find it.

Everything inside the house was great and Michael was always very responsive.
I only wish the yard had been mowed, to enjoy the backyard.
I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this property for a wedding weekend for a family member. This property was amazing! The host is very accommodating and responsive! The home was clean and well maintained. Loved that the linens were provided! The rest of our family stayed a few houses down, so it made for an easy commute. This home is perfectly located to all of the local spots, and all within walking distance. We hope to return soon!

We have been meeting family in Cape Charles for 15 years. The house was a tight squeeze for ten of us. The description of property amenities was accurate. Our only suggestion would say the house needs a strong dose of TLC.

We come to Cape Charles every summer and absolutely love everything about it - the small town, the shops, the restaurants, the beach….. This was a great house for 5 of us and our dog! I love the charm of the older historic homes. The front porch was perfect for relaxing with a book and there’s lots of room in the back yard for kids to run around and play.

Cape Charles is always a great time. The historic homes add to the charm of this beach town. This home is in a great location. Owner was very responsive. Although we were prepared to stay in a older home and the quirks that go with that, many of the listed amenities were not functional as anticipated and some areas of the home and pieces of furniture could use updating. Overall, we had a great time.

Unfortunately the only the wrong with the stay was the weather. The location is perfect, right next to stores and the downtown location and only a few blocks away from the beach. We traveled with 2 infants and 1 toddler and the toddler had a great time in the backyard and especially at the beach. Very happy with our stay and would recommend this house to anyone.

everything went well and as expected. A few minor issues with TV’s and outlets not working, but nothing that would keep us from returning if we wanted to stay in Cape Charles.

Charming old home, we really enjoyed our stay. Exactly as advertised, plenty of room to spread out and relax. Home was very clean, amenities were plentiful and met our needs. Short walk to the shopping district and the beach. Although the weather was not optimal, we enjoyed walking all around Cape Charles. We would not hesitate to stay again snd recommend to family snd friends.

We had an excellent stay at the house in Cape Charles. Location was great -- everything in walking distance. It was just the two of use this time but the house was set up for many more with a huge dining table and extra large sectional in the living room. Everything was clean just as the described. We enjoyed using the bikes that were provided. Kitchen had every coffee appliance imaginable (kuerig/nespresso/drip/electric kettle) which was an extra bonus.

We thoroughly enjoyed our little getaway to Cape Charles and so happy we had Mike's
charming, spacious & historic home as our base. He was a gracious and very accommodating host from afar. We hope to return someday soon!

I am going to be as honest as possible with my review of this rental. The location and the comfort level of the beds earned it 5 stars. The rest of the home felt a bit shabby, earning it 3.8 stars. It’s an old, historic home which we took into consideration and really didn’t contribute to the rating. The kitchen is very well stocked but most of the drawers/cabinets could use organizing and streamlining (for the love don’t open the drawer below the coffee makers or the game cabinet below the tv!). It’s almost as if anything anyone has ever left behind is kept for the next guests but the goal should be to make guests feel like there wasn’t just another family staying in the same space mere hours ago. The furniture and general decor is subpar and borders more on yard sale chic. Blinds and curtains need a refresh. Even investing in some lower quality but cohesive furniture and decor would go a long way. The couch was new and nice but the outdoor furniture needs to be replaced and the plastic Adirondack chair on the front porch was broken. It has a lot of potential but I fear it’s going to need a major renovation soon. Overall it had everything we needed it was generally clean and we slept well, which was a plus.

Older home with nice a/c. Some renovations done but needs more.

Clean charming comfortable property. And pet friendly! Close to main street, bakeries, cafes, and central park. Short walk to the beach. Home is well stocked - from kitchen supplies to sporting equipment to family board games. Everything a family could need for a week at the beach. Outdoor shower was very convenient after a day in the sand. Sleeping arrangements worked well for our family of 5. Beds were comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return again next summer. Thank you for a memorable vacation!
