The district of La Latina is an area of Madrid that occupies a large part of the oldest Madrid called "Madrid de los Austrias", with a peculiar urban organization typical of medieval distribution, with wide squares and narrow streets that follow the old Waters.
The Rastro de Madrid (or simply El Rastro) is an open-air market, originally made of second-hand goods, which is assembled every Sunday morning and on holidays, in a "castizo" district of the historic center of the Spanish capital. Started in 1740 around the «Slaughterhouse of the Villa», occupying the sidewalks of Ribera de Curtidoes in the district of Lavapiés, as a semi-clandestine souk for the sale of used objects (trinkets).
The house built more than a century and a half ago is in the Cascorro Square, being the beginning of El Rastro, with more than a quarter of a millennium of existence. Its international reputation (which makes it present in the travel guides about Madrid as a singular attraction), is related to other markets existing in various European cities.
Today and everyday of the week it is an area of Madrid with a lot of life, dynamic and full of young people and modern locals who have contributed to the neighborhood making a very interesting update.
It has a semi-pedestrian character, recommending public transport and, as far as possible, enjoy walking.
Transportation is not going to be a problem at home. We can arrange the transportation from Airport and Train Station if needed.
Most tourist places of Madrid are at a distance which it is better to walk and enjoy the walk, but it is also the metro station of La Latina 2 minutes from home and Tirso de Molina 5 minutes away.
