1. Friendly and hospitable staff, esp. the receptionist at the front desk (always ready to help)
2. Large comfy room
3. Walkable distance to the JR station (though going uphill)
4. Free entry ticket to an old communal onsen nearby
1. Dinner portion was small

My room was exceptionally spacious. it was perfect to lounge around in on resting days. loved the outdoor onsen, it was a perfect treat! close to a few local eateries which I loved.
My heating stopped working and I was promptly supplied with another heater.
hmmm I was hoping to get breakfast and dinner , but all good. ( see below) are there any tips on ordering breakfast and dinner while booking on this platform?
the sulphur smell around the property can get overwhelming but you get used to it. After all, it IS an onsen town

The location is very good, near to JR NARUKO ONSEN Station.
The staff is friendly and can speak English.

the dinner was good value to the money.
seemed not ready for the re-open of Japan as they didn't have enough basket for carrying towel to onsen for every room.

Very good location, 5-7 min. walk to the train station. Japanese style onsen, very nice outdoor bath, rotenburo. The room was very spacious, with tatami mats and beds.
Very nice breakfast, Japanese style, freshly cooked rice individually in separate steel pots, delicious, the rest as well (I did not have dinner as I arrived late). Free drinks in the lounge. There is a bus from near the train station to the Naruko gorge, so it was convenient to leave my baggage in the hotel, go for the sightseeing, then come to pick up the baggage and get on the train. Friendly staff.
The Google maps showed me wrong direction so it took me sometime to find the place, although it is only 5-7 min from the station. This is not of course the hotel's fault.

The hotel is located right in the center of town so it was easy to walk everywhere. The futons were more like mini-mattresses, so they were very comfy. Our stay included breakfast and dinner - the dinners were amazing! The kaiseki meal was beautifully presented and every bite was delicious! The first floor lounge was comfortable with happy hour beverages available for guests.
The public onsen doesn't allow tattoos so we reserved the private onsen, but the water was so scalding hot that we couldn't enjoy it.

Private Onsen, the view, the lounge, the free drinks from 1600-1800 and the fireplace and the scavenger hunt.

Beautiful big Japanese style room with western beds. Welcome drink.

The property was beautiful and had everything we were looking for in a ryokan. The breakfast was really great and the staff were all very helpful. They went out of their way to speak English with us whenever possible. For being a small town, there were plenty of different dinner options outside of the hotel that were a bit cheaper and were open later.
The only thing we didn’t like is that the wifi didn’t reach our room. It wasn’t really a big deal, though.

Onsen is very relaxing with uncrowded. Room is spacious and clean. I could play ping pong after Onsen.
The staff at the front desk is not that friendly. He needs smile.

Very quiet hotel. Restaurant and lounges were very modern and interesting. The staff was incredibly polite, helpful and made us feel welcome.
The room decor seemed in need of an update, but was very clean and had enough room.
The safety mechanisms on the elevator doors did were horrible. The elevator doors closed so quickly after my spouse got out that I was hit with the closing doors twice. I am on blood thinners and this caused some bruising. I was wary each time I took the elevator.
I understand that the hotel is under new management and has been renovating over time. But I feel these elevators need modernizing, as many patrons are retirees.
