History – The Apple Knoll was built in 1830 and first used as a sheep farm. It's a Georgian style timber frame house with views of the West River, shire of Weston, and Mounts Tabor Mansfield and Equinox. In the year built, Merino wool prices spiked to 50 cents a pound and VT experienced the “Great Torrent”, the worst flooding in a century. Over the next 30 years VT saw its first railroad, spread of the abolitionist movement, a booming economy first in agriculture then forestry mining and manufacturing, and outbreak of the Civil War.

Great place to stay in Weston. Thank you!

A group of 12 stayed at the property for a week. We used all eight of the sleeping spaces. The kitchen, outdoor spaces and bathrooms were the best part of the stay. The kitchen allowed us to easily cook large meals.
However, it is clear that many updates, (including the screen door, putting screens in all the windows) need fixing. Also, the inn could use a deep cleaning.
Tip for future guests that could be staying more then a couple of nights, bring your own paper towels, toilet paper and trash bags. There is not extra at the inn. We were told we'd get reimbursed for the cost, but no reimbursement occurred.
For the price we paid we were happy with the week.

We loved the house. There was plenty of room for 8 of us. Our favorite part was sitting by the fire looking at millions of stars in the dark sky.

Overall we have a great trip to VT! Dan was a great host and was very responsive. Doret Marble Quarry is a must do for groups looking for adventure! Woodstock is a fun little town to explore and be sure to stop at the White Cottage Snack Bar for lunch on your way. Maple Creemee’s are also a must at the Vermont Country Store! The house was certainly big enough for our group of 21. The cottages were fun for the teens and the fire pit was large enough for the whole group to enjoy on cool nights! A couple things I didn’t realize until arriving at Apple Knoll..The pool is in front of the house and there isn’t much room to relax around it..The other was that the house only has air conditioning in the bedrooms. Thankfully it’s cooler in VT so it was manageable on the main floor and kitchen. Our group definitely agreed the house could use a little TLC.

My family of 11 enjoyed a wonderful week at Apple Knoll in July 2021. The house is a very comfortable (quirky, quaint, and interesting)old house at the edge of the lovely village of Weston that gave us a great introduction to Vermont life. Spacious common areas and bedrooms (each with a bathroom and window unit AC) provided the best combination of privacy and opportunities to gather. The kitchen was updated and well-equipped and we enjoyed the outdoor grill, deck and pool. With the nearby towns of Londonderry and Ludlow, it was a good base for hiking, fishing, golf, and sightseeing. Our two oldest grandsons loved having their own cabins! Daniel, Julie, and the Gertrude Rental team were easy to work with, communicative, and immediately responsive to concerns. We appreciated their policy of minimal fuss at check-in and check-out, and happily recommend this property. Our major suggestions for improvement would be better lighting in the living room and den, and an ice maker. We did a lot of cooking and watching the Olympics at night.

Just returned from a nine-day family reunion getaway at the charming Apple Knoll Inn and Cottages. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Daniel is an extremely responsive host and did a terrific job of communicating throughout the process, including handling a minor issue with the pool after we had arrived. The key things that we were looking for -- 8 bedrooms, plenty of baths, a large modern kitchen, fast/reliable wifi, pretty setting and a yard with large grill -- were all exactly as described. However, other than the kitchen, this is definitely not a "luxury" property. The rooms, furnishings and finishes are old and are not in a consistent state of repair. The bedrooms all have window AC units, the pool area is quite small and shaded, and the cottages, while clean and functional, were a bit shabby inside (the bathroom floor in one cabin was unfinished). Cooking in the kitchen was enjoyable and there were plenty of utensils, plates, glasses, etc. once we found everything. Seating for family dinners was challenging -- we had to split our party one night -- because the dining room only holds 10-12 people. Also, there is only a small 4-6 person table for eating outside, which is odd for a house with 8 bedrooms. The large grill worked well and was perfect for even the largest group, and the fire pit was perfect for late night gatherings. Finally, the house is close to Route 100, which is a major north-south road. The road noise during the day is noticeable though, happily, it was quiet at night and the rooms are well insulated.Assuming that you understand that this is an older property which has been cared for but also shows its age, then you will not be disappointed with the Apple Knoll, and Daniel is everything you could ask for in a host.

Cozy and Charming
We booked this property for a girls' getaway for the weekend! The house was charming with old-style artifacts and unique pieces of art all around. Would have loved to see newer furnishings (sofa, pillows, etc.). Gorgeous views from the property and very close convenient proximity to most all places - restaurants, activities.

Annual Girls Weekend
Our stay in Weston was great. There were 14 of us and everyone had a bed to sleep in and every bedroom has its own bathroom. Kitchen was updated and there was ample space for dining. Outdoor pool and outdoor space. We went in the summer, but I’m sure it would be great in the winter as ski slopes are nearby.

This property was incredible based on both the beauty around it and the superb attention the owner showed us while there. The quaint town of Weston just down the road afforded us tons of fun for both kids and adults alike to shop and enjoy some of the local wares such as cheeses, syrups, homemade fudge and souvenirs. The mountain views had us in awe and the pool and river kept the kids occupied for hours on end. The giant lawn lent itself well to all the lawn games we brought and the kitchen was a dream. Thank you Dan, for the wonderful opportunity to stay in your home.

Large, yet comfy house
We had a wonderful stay at the house. Each bedroom had a great, updated bathroom. The kitchen was perfect when cooking for 8 people. The property was loud and not near any other property. Had excellent view. Also Dan, the owner, was very accommodating our big group. He updated the internet for us as 8 people needed to work during our stay. We unfortunately didn't get to experience the town due to COVID but it look adorable. We had a great stay and hope to go back next summer.

Great for large groups; Daniel and team are awesome
We have a reunion every year with old friends and our ever growing families. Typically our group is between 20 and 25 guests. It can be difficult to find a property to comfortably accommodate us and provide a private idyllic setting. The Apple Knoll Inn totally fit the bill. The property is well maintained and all the rooms were very clean. The kitchen was amazing. New and beautiful, but also well stocked with every type of pot, pan, platter, plate, tool, and storage that a group cooking for 20 needs. Another significant highlight for the group was that every room had its own private bathroom stocked with towels, soaps, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. That's a feature we've not found in any of the prior properties we've rented and was so nice!
In addition to being pleased with the property itself, we found Daniel and his caretaker Julie to be very responsive and attentive. As questions and concerns did come up, we received immediate responses from Daniel and Julie was at house shortly to take care of our needs. For instance, when we arrived we found there were not enough outdoor chairs for our group and within a hour Julie showed up with 12 more Adirondack chairs for us to use. Or when we realized we didn't have enough towels she stopped by with a huge basket of additional towels. Daniel also sent us several ideas of activities to do with the kids and insight on fun stuff in the area. He was super attentive and it was clear wanted the group to have a great time. Which we did :).
Thanks again to Daniel and team for helping to make our reunion a success!
