About this house rental
This knoll top home with canyon views off the front and back reflects my love of original art, travel, and the outdoors. We're unique in our location, privacy and vibe. Unlike a lot of Canyon homes, we get a lot of sunlight, literally from dawn to dusk. Past guests have commented the best time to enjoy the home is at sunset, hanging on the deck, letting the day wind down. We also enjoy being part of a independent minded community that relishes it's relationship with nature and privacy.

We absolutely loved this VRBO. The outside area is just gorgeous and the views are incredible. Had some hummingbirds visit us several times on the deck. It was comfortable and it was well stocked with kitchen and bathroom items. This host is super friendly. We enjoyed our communication with her.

This is a beautiful home and Mary is a lovely host. My favorite part of the visit was the multiple outdoor spaces where we spent mornings and evenings gazing at the views of the canyons.

Really nice outdoor spaces to enjoy nature. Would come back again.

Overall very positive. The street it is on is very narrow road making parking tight. Other than that if you like the vibe in the pictures it is a 10

Our week-long stay at Mary's home was exactly what we needed during Thanksgiving Week. We had a beautiful space, both inside and out, we could enjoy and feel like we'd "gotten away from it all." At the same time, we were in close proximity to family in the valley. Mary's attention to detail was impeccable. We are so thankful she was willing to let us have our dogs with us, and it was clear how much she loves her own. To be able to hike in the canyon right from the property was delightful. The indoor space was perfect for the two of us, and the outdoor deck and porch space was really amazing. The peace and tranquility the landscaping and water features added were another lovely layer. This was truly an exceptional find.

Enjoyed our brief stay at your house. Would have liked to stay longer and walk the local trails. Maybe next time. Hope we left everything in acceptable condition.
Thx Mary

We came to visit some family and had a really nice time hiking and exploring the area around the property. The view of the canyons from all angles of the home was gorgeous and picturesque. Would recommended bringing detergent if you're looking to use the washer/dryer but the home had most things that we needed. Clean for the most part except for the shower curtains that we sprayed some cleaner on for mold.

Beautiful spot. Can hike into the canyon directly from the property. No off-street parking. Be aware that space for cars is extremely limited.

Such a treat to stay in this wonderfully peaceful haven on top of your very own hill! 360 degree views of the canyon. Superb sunrises, sunsets and stargazing. Mary is an awesome host and was very available to answer questions.
Mary’s home is so thoughtfully decorated and extremely well equipped. The kitchen is very well stocked with cookware, gadgets, knives, dishes… everything you need to cook great meals, just bring your groceries…or have them Instacarted!
Such a cozy retreat in a gorgeous setting.
Thank you Mary, for sharing your beautiful home with us.

I don’t really have much to add that the reviews haven’t already established. Yes, the driveway is steep. No, there aren’t handrails leading up to the property. Yes, the property is relatively small, but enough for a cozy group of 4. Yes, Mary is friendly and communicative.
The view is spectacular and the property is familiar, comforting, and perhaps a little inspiring. :-) If you’re looking for a wholesome, quirky getaway in a beautiful environment, this is the place!

What an amazing way to get closer to nature. We only live 6 miles from this house, but it made us feel like we were a million miles away which is exactly what we were looking for. The inside of the house is great, but we spent most of the time outside enjoying the views and seeing and hearing the birds chirpping. The outside deck is great.
Whether you are coming from near or far, this is a great place to disconnect and get back to reality.

Sylvia Park is a cozy house at the top of a canyon road situated near Topanga State Park, a quick drive to Malibu, Santa Monica and Calabasas area. The house was a perfect retreat for my husband and I looking for a relaxing stay while in town for a concert and visiting our daughter in college. While the CA weather did not fully cooperate with our visit, overcast and rainy, the house was a great place to sit and read, hang out, while enjoying the views. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you would need to prepare a meal. Furnishings are homey and eclectic with interesting art and travel pieces. As mentioned in another review, the road to the house is a bit steep and windy, and you will have to have some backing out skills. I recommend arriving while still light out, as driving the road for the first time in the dark could be a bit stressful. :) Mary was an awesome host, reaching out early to confirm stay, communicated last minute details, and gave us some great restaurant recommendations. If we visit again, hope to get more use out of the patio views and hiking options.

We had a wonderful time on a friend’s trip to LA and staying in Mary’s home. The home itself is beautiful, clean and comfortable and set in the most amazing backdrop of the canyon. While it was a wet weekend, we took advantage of Mary’s recommendations for food and really appreciate her sending us her sharing them with us. Would definitely stay again!

It was special to stay in a house that actually was lived in and loved instead of a sterile vacation rental. Communication was always extremely fast and the light up there is just gorgeous.

My husband, myself and another couple stayed for 3 nights and we all loved it. The house has a charming atmosphere and the kitchen was extremely well stocked. The views of Topanga Canyon from the house are breathtaking and you would never know you were in LA. We would definitely stay here again. Mary was extremely responsive to all of our communication and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay.

This is a lovely quaint home with a great bohemian casita vibe, beautiful views from all angles, great porches, and a well furnished interior.

Great location, fantastic views, cozy bungalow above it all in Topanga!

The most important thing is that we all slept very well in this top of the canyon house. It's small but it easily fit the 4 of us. The furniture and the AC systems are a bit dated, but they work. Beds are comfortable. The location is super quiet, which we liked a lot. The road to the house is steep. You park at the front of the house in a street that is too narrow to u-turn so you have to backup until you get to a neighbor's driveway to turn the car around. Communication with the owner was easy and smooth.

Staying at this little house is like staying in a treehouse! The road is steep that leads to the top of the road where the home sits which lends to this feeling! The location is quiet so you can hear the myriad of birds surrounding the property particularly in the morning, and the vegetation is diverse and abundant! We loved staying here and would do so again!

Excellent location and property to plan a quick weekend getaway; beautiful Topanga canyon hikes and lovely beaches when it gets too hot in the mountains! We look forward to returning.

The Cottage in Topanga Canyon is a wonderful place to relax after exploring the trails and parks in the area. The home is comfortable and colorfully decorated with interesting art and sculptures. The best part of the home is its outdoor spaces. Comfortable seating on the deck and patio give guests amazing views of the surrounding mountains. There are also some great trails to explore from the home’s back yard.

This house is lovely, and, as it is the owner’s home, it felt lived in. It was very relaxing and quiet, cozy and comfy, not like staying in a sterile holiday let. The only noises we heard came from surrounding nature. Yet the bubbling San Fernando valley shopping malls and restaurants, are only about 15 minutes drive, and the beaches only about 20 minutes away. There are outdoor terraces on both sides if the house so you can either bask in the sun or rest in the shade, whichever suits. In the mornings we enjoyed walking out of the house directly onto the adjacent wilderness hiking trail that winds its way across the Santa Monica mountains. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was a good WiFi signal. There was a great selection of the latest movies available on Apple TV. Mary, the owner, was very easy to deal with and maintained excellent communication. Overall highly recommended.

Everything was clean and as advertised. Can't beat the adjacent trail access!

Mary’s property was fabulous. Her 1925 updated “hunting cabin” up in Topanga Canyon was a perfect escape for my friend and I that were in desperate need of a cozy retreat in an amazing spot in nature in a location that is near and dear to my heart and soul. The drive up was a bit tricky and steep up to
Iowa Trail but we were able to quickly acclimate. Mary was extremely responsive and available for questions or concerns at all times. The neighborhood was safe, quiet, friendly and serene. I just can’t wait to return . We never wanted to leave and had many days with beautiful hikes -sunshine day dreams and epic views. Mary’s cozy retreat was nothing less than magical.

The property is so cozy, with an amazing use of outdoor space. So many great hikes nearby. Incredible light, incredible sunsets. Thank you so much.

Mary was so helpful and responsive with questions both before the trip and during. The house was a lovely retreat in the quiet canyons but close enough to hiking trails, the beaches, Malibu/Santa Monica, etc. The house was clean, bedrooms were cozy, the outdoor spaces were so relaxing to hang out both in the morning with coffee and at night with the string lights on. We loved our stay here!

Relaxing time here with family - beautiful 360 degree views from outside decks/patios. Host is very responsive & home was bohemian yet very clean. Would request to rent again.

We all loved our stay in the hills of Topanga above the Malibu coastal area. Our dwelling was very clean and conducive to rest and relaxation. This area has easy access to the Pacific coastline, is less than 45 minutes from LAX and has a wonderful variety of birds and vegetation.

Very comfortable, cute, and functional retreat with incredible outside spaces and serene view. Loved it. Mary was a great and welcoming host.

Wonderful place for rest and relaxation both inside and out. The abundance of outdoor space allowed us to spend many hours enjoying morning coffee and breakfast while taking in the beautiful canyon views and watching the sun set with a glass of wine. Mary is a most gracious and welcoming host.

Loved our stay in topanga canyon. Only constructive feedback I’d give Is storage space. We stayed for 10 days and did not really have a place to put our clothes etc. Other than that everything else was great!

A rejuvenating escape within the California Canyon with soul inspiring views at every corner. Mary (the owner) has created an environment that evokes artistic Bohemian vibe it will linger within long after you leave. Amazing outdoor patio with a hammock is another way to elevate your experience. If you’re coming to Cali get here if you want a Canyon crush!
