About this house rental
Gather together in our rustic and remote little house near Brevard, NC. Lot's of bed's and amenities included that are not included in many others. Our place is great launching point for waterfall hikes, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking etc... Don't expect the Beverly Hilton or Luxury Decor it's just a good ol' little country house that holds lot's of people, with some odd decor.
We tried to make this a home away from home for your group to enjoy. Although, it will be Cycling focused it will be a great place also for: Fly Fishing, Motorcycle Touring, Waterfall Seekers, Hiking, Hunting, Rock Climbing, Kayaking (Class 4/5 Rapids), Bird Watching, Yoga Camps, Sight Seeing, Artists etc... We are nestled in the foothills of Pisgah and Wayehutta Forest at the bottom of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is the spot where the EPIC 215 Climb starts (Known as a Legendary Climb among Cyclists). Scenic routes are everywhere, Road, Mountain and Gravel. Traffic is extremely low. The Sanitarium has much more than your typical cabin. Currently, sleeps 12+ (soon to be 20+ with external pods (borg style) with 3 full baths and 1 outdoor bath/shower. In addition, we have an RV/Camper site on the property with all hookups if you wanna spread out your group can book both. (You must inquire about this site as to availability). Enjoy the 5+ acres with incredible views and seclusion. There are lot's of maps and other cycling related items at cabin. This is a great place to bring your Team camps and/or groups to enjoy all this area has to offer. The views and ruggedness are spectacular. You are only a 25-30 min. drive to downtown Brevard. We can do custom arrangements if needed while you're there as well. Just call or email and let us know what you need for your group and we will send you a quote and accommodate. I am a cyclist and I know what you want! Lot's of Strava segments to gauge yourself against other world class cyclist (or not). You can just roll right up 215 from the cabin and be at the highest part of the blue ridge parkway near Devil's Courthouse and Richland Balsam in a flash. I got hooked on this place years ago and I know you will be also. Don't fret if you're not a cyclist. We are right there near Shining Rock Wilderness and Black Balsam for you hikers as well as a host of other trails. This area is also well known as a Fly Fisherman Haven and almost dead center in the heart of the Land of Waterfalls. Davidson River is approx. 4 miles away (MTB'r's will know what that means). Ride right out of the cabin to Gloucaster Gap and then onto your favorite trail - Farlow, Daniel's Ridge, Butter Gap. If shopping is your passion then head over to Brevard or Waynesville. Just over an hour away is the popular town of Cherokee where there is a Casino for any Gamblers. Please come get yourself well at the Sanitarium. We have 2 fire pits with firewood included.
I won't be available in person but you can text/call me with any questions

Quiet getaway
Super quiet, away from it all within distance to town and activities. Gave us a lot of recommendations and where to eat and places to see. Very helpful and generous.

Scott’s House
This was our first time at Pisgah and Scott was flexible from the beginning of my booking when I asked to change dates he did it promptly and happily! We loved loved loved the quirkiness of the house…something we will talk about for years I am sure! We used the record player nonstop and was a great addition to the ambiance. The service is spotty since we were in the mountains as expected but Scott was an incredible host sending points of interest before and answering questions as the trip went on although I tried not to bother him too much!! The kitchen had everything we needed I would recommend adding a plastic spatula so as not to mess up the nonstick pans. There were great outdoor living spaces- we played darts, roasted marshmallows, yardzee, the ring swing game….I wish I could fully describe this house…it’s just an experience in itself! Thank you Scott!!!

Fun place with character!
Lots of stuff to look at and laugh about! Find the tiny baby we left! It’s only an inch long so it might be tough! . Nice picnic area, dogs loved running about, teenager boys went exploring. 16 yr old loved the frogs/toads. 15 yr old loved running his dog all over playing darts and disappearing into the loft entrance, nice and easy outdoor high fire pit with lots of wood ready, easy to arrange rental. Plenty of outlets and internet access, used Wi-Fi for phone service. Landline there also if needed. Plenty of games inside and out. Very enjoyable close to lots of activities!

Our Sanitarium Visit
The Cloud Mtn Sanitarium was perfectly unique! The 4 children, (ages 12-19), absolutely loved it! I believe one called it, “dope” , which is a good thing these days 🤷♀️! The firewood kept us toasty warm, the games were a nice entertainment, the grill was used for hamburgers and hotdogs, the views and quiet landscape was much needed. We were close enough to spend a day in both Asheville and in Bryson City. We brought the warm weather with us so our skiing trip is postponed but we hope to be back next year (weather permitting) and we’d love to stay, again. Thank you for your hospitality!

Quirky, cool place!
My husband found this place while searching for some places near Brevard since we love to hike and find waterfalls. The decor was so interesting and humorous. The doll arm and leg on the trees and sign reading "No Stupid People" was a hilarious greeting! Our 14 year old spent forever walking around the house the first night reading all the things on the walls and looking for more "creepy dolls" or "weird masks" around the cabin. Lots of cool stuff to look at! Coffee bar was FANTASTIC! Bean grinder, regular pot, several French Presses. Patio was awesome with the propane heater, fire pit. If you walk down the steps out back there is a picnic table, a stream you can hear, another fire pit with chairs, and even a brick oven. Outside toilet and shower that were well kept and clean. All the rooms were clean. I'm usually turned off by rental linens, but they all smelled and looked fresh. The washer didn't have that funky front load smell--- but it did have a lot of gunk and dog hair built up around the rubber seal. We've learned with our front load to wipe the seal after each load to prevent this... but nothing a bit of bleach and scrubbing won't fix. They had some bleach there that I used on it. I have seen a few rentals in the past that have a note on the washer asking guests to wipe the seal after using. Total game changer.
Host was great for recommendations on spots to visit, restaurants, etc.
GREAT TRIP! 10/10 would poop here again! ;)

We traveled as two families with our children 10 and 7. Sadly the home had a musty smell upon entry and we found several dehumidifiers placed throughout the home. We found an abundance of mouse droppings and save a live mouse run through the kitchen while we were eating. We wish the photos would have been more recently updated. We stayed for a total of 4 hours and went to a hotel.

Hide away from everyone
The location is so secluded and quiet. I love it. Sit on the back deck and enjoy nature. In the evening sit on the front porch play cards have dinner and enjoy. This place was magical for myself and the 5 13 year old boys I brought with me. Down the road is a hide gem of waterfalls. Love it will be back!

Great family place...and campy enough to remember
Our trip was so nice. We were not quite prepared for the attic room, which is only accessed by climbing a ladder in the kitchen! Our teen girls loved it. The baths were interesting. When I booked the website said there were 5 bathrooms. Only found 4 and one was outside and one had a non working toilet. That put us down to 3 working toilets.
The kitchen is well equipped. We used the grill on the deck and enjoyed Smores at the fire pit. The decor is interesting, with lots of things to look at. Obviously an Elvis fan was one of the decorators.
We had a great family trip and the manager was very helpful in helping with my grand daughters g!asses which she left upstairs.

Quiet mountain retreat
If you're looking for a quiet, well equipped, comfortable base to tie all your excursions together, this is great! Waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain biking - the area has it all. If you like winding mountain roads and spectacular views, there are plenty of those too.

Wonderful location and awesome hosts
This house is perfectly located to explore some of the best spots along that area of the blue ridge such as black balsam knob, devil's courthouse and Skinny Dip water hole.
The owner was very flexible with us and was available for questions. He was very helpful and provided amazing recommendations of places to visit and things to do.
We really enjoyed the outdoor areas of the house and the layback atmosphere.

To say that Scott (I hope I am remembering the owner's name) has an eye for detail is an understatement. Not only is there enough room for a small army (including linens, blankets, pillows, roll out cots, pillows, washer dryer, TVs, blue tooth this and that, coffee bar!! fully equipped kitchen and grilling areas) there is a eclectic charm you do not find in most rentals that this sanitarium possesses proudly! If you wanted to just sit and chill out, I have the feeling the amazing energy of this home will make you want to get up, get out and ride some single track or hike to one of the many waterfalls---all within minutes from the compound. But in reality, you may not want to leave! This place has everything including cleanliness, solitude and charm. The wood burning stove kept us warm and cozy and the multiple decks and sitting areas kept us outdoors otherwise. We will be back soon with an army of dirt bag climbing, biking and hiking maniacs.OH! and communication with Scott was also superb. Kuddos!

Great place for a group of cyclists or hikers!
Lots of games, outdoor seating, plenty of beds, musical instruments, places to prepare and eat food, and wired to the max with power, USB and wifi. Also, if you want to experience some of the supernatural, it is said that the place is haunted. A heavy plaque flew off the wall one night while we were sleeping.

Nice stay in the mountains
Great communication with owner. Easy check in and out. The house has everything you could need in a peaceful location close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls, hiking trails, etc. Also really enjoyed the decorations. There is something interesting to look at anywhere you look in the house. Lots of games indoors and out, books, and other things to keep adults and kids happy if you do stay indoors as well.
