This traditional lakefront cabin located on George's Pond has everything you could want for a quiet, peaceful Maine vacation. Built in 1912, its rustic ambiance has all of the modern-day amenities without sacrificing the experience. Fall asleep listening to the loons sing and awaken to the sunrise watching eagles and osprey feed on the lake. This cabin is nestled amongst tall pines that will take your breath away. George's Pond is a 380-acre spring-fed lake surrounded by glimpses of Schoodic Mountain. This cabin sleeps 6-8 (Queen master bed, 4 twin beds in the lofts, and a double bed on the sleeping porch). We are minutes to Schoodic Mountain and Schoodic Beach which is great for hiking and swimming or a picnic on Donnell’s Pond. Schoodic’s summit is flat with 360-degree breathtaking views over Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island. The Downeast Sunrise Trail is a revamped railway with miles of trail for biking, hiking, ATV, or walking (see website for more information) just 3 minutes from the cabin. Schoodic Head is 30 minutes towards Winter Harbor and also part of Acadia National Park. There you will find beautiful hikes, a cute harbor town, and great ice cream and see some more of beautiful Maine. The cabin is 40 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. There you can hike, mountain bike, shop the island boutiques, dine in Bar Harbor restaurants, go whale watching or grab a delicious ice cream cone. You can also play golf at the famous Kebo Valley course. Pick blueberries on your way home and make a cobbler or relax on the dock. We provide kayaks and life vests. We are rustic/nature people. We put this well above amenities and frills. This was perfect for us.
Absolutely no frills but an INCREDIBLE location with huge privacy, peace and nature.
It was exactly what we we are looking for

The cabin is beautiful nestled amongst the pine trees overlooking the lake. Loved hearing the loons in the distance. We weren't informed that there was no television, so a little disappointed because it's football season, but there were lots of games to keep us occupied as we were there during hurricane Lee. Our host was concerned for our safety and requested us to leave on Saturday for the night, and we did so. However, our reimbursement for that night from VRBO has not been refunded to us at more than a week later.
Overall, considering the weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at George's Pond and loved the food at Ruth and Wimpies. Best lobster we had!

My family needed a vacation to disconnect from the world and this was perfect! Everything was relaxed and natural. The water was beautiful and fun! Close to Acadia to fill the morning with activities, as well.

My family (self, husband, and 3 boys) love hiking vacations in the National Parks...but we don't love crowds. At about 40-50min outside Acadia National Park, this cabin was perfect. We could drive into the park early and hike, then come 'home' to George's pond and fall in! The view is spectacular, I loved boating and the boys loved the diving rock. The cabin felt more like you were borrowing a good friends family cabin than like a rental. Cozy decor and comfortable beds. We also spent a great deal of time reading on the deck around the propane fire pit. Great place for us all to recharge! We'll definitely come back. One trip to this part of Maine is not enough!

The cabin was clean. The location was conveniently located in proximity to a gas station, groceries, restaurants, and Acadia. There was minimal boat traffic which made for a relaxing and quiet week. The fishing was very good for August. My husband caught several good size fish off the dock.
4.8
This was just the place to vacation with good friends! The camp has all you need for a summer getaway and more! Waking up to the sound of loons on the lake everyday was a treat! The pond is quietly active with duck families learning to swim and dive! And the sleeping porch is just a dream!

We really enjoyed our getaway to this cabin on George's Pond. We fished, went kayaking and went swimming. In the evenings we started fire in fireplace and played card/board games.
The view from the cabin and dock is so beautiful and serene.
Our only complaint would be we wished the bathroom was bigger - its very tight.
Danielle the owner was very responsive when we had questions.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Perfect location for a quiet getaway to the Maine coast. Acadia National Park is about 30 minutes away. Rustic cabin was the perfect setting for peace and quiet. Beautiful lake with dock, kayaking available. Host was very informative, gracious and accommodating. Absolutely loved it.

Georges cabin was just what we were looking for! Kayaking, loons, cozy fireplace. Great place to turn off and explore!

Beautiful cabin with great views of the lake. We were on the dock one morning and counted 7 bald eagles soaring over the lake. Listened to the loons after dusk as we sat by the cozy gas firepit. 40 minutes from Acadia. We hiked 3 days and put in 22 miles. Highly recommended.

So nice to spend time at beautiful George's Pond fishing, kayaking and swimming. The cabin was small and a bit dark but very clean, neat and orderly. Host was responsive and accommodating and the location was perfect for traveling to and from Bar Harbor. We had a great time!
4.8
Sweet cottage with natural charm. The location is perfect as it offers a sense of seclusion given the trees blocking out neighbors. Quiet lake with loons and eagles. A perfect spot to refresh and restore! Love it.
4.8
Loved this property! It was just as pictured and the dock was the best place to be! Coffee and reading every morning while my husband fished--it was heaven!
4.8
Exactly as pictured. Responsive and helpful owner gave terrific advice via text on the day before and of our arrival. Loved the kayaks, dock, porch, deck, games and jigsaw puzzles, plus the loon and bald eagle spotting. Neighbors on both sides are relatively close but neither were present during our visit, so it was mercifully quiet - minus the passing motorboat/jetski here and there. Great opportunity for our family to unplug and unwind as cell reception was weak and the house wifi wouldn’t connect to our devices (thank goodness!!! we really needed a break).
4.8
What a wonderful and relaxing week to unplug and be in nature. The house was cozy and worked well for the two of us. Danielle was great at communication and even gave us some good insight about things like grocery locations. Acadia is close enough for day trips. It was the perfect blend of pond and ocean.

It was everything we expected.

Total relaxation
My family enjoyed our stay at George's Pond so much so that I often think about going back (I was there less than a month ago)! From the deck overlooking the lake, to the fishing every morning, listening to the loons and watching them swim, playing board games, reading, swimming, kayaking and cooking out. It was close enough for travel to Bar Harbor and Acadia but not too close to have the crowds.
I knew going in that this was an older cabin and I guess my only complaint or inconvenience was lack of storage for clothes in master. It'd be great if a dresser could go under stairs in living room for maybe clothes and some extra food supplies to go on top.
The owner was very helpful with all of our questions, it was much appreciated! We really loved the blueberry jam!
We loved this home and location! Definitely recommend if looking for some rest, relaxation and great views!

We absolutely loved our vacation! The cabin is very welcoming and cozy. My children enjoyed having their own loft spaces and the board games that were provided. I loved the view from the main bedroom. The sleeping porch is a wonderful additional space. It’s perfect for morning coffee, afternoon naps and reading your favorite book. The deck is also lovely. It has a gorgeous view of the pond and the sky at night. I particularly loved sitting out there at night and listening to the Loons and Bullfrogs sing. It’s magical! George’s Pond is beautiful, relaxing and peaceful. It’s perfect for kayaking and fishing. My son fished from the dock every day! This was truly our most favorite vacation to date!

Cute & Cozy
Our family of 4 enjoyed our week in early June at this quaint cottage on George’s Pond. We appreciated the yummy Blueberry Jam, Wildflower bouquet, beach towels along with bath towels, kayaks, private fishing dock, and fireplace in the cabin. It was chilly in the cabin, but we kept the fire going and found the extra blankets to keep us warm. The kitchen and bathroom are tiny, but effective. We enjoyed the peaceful solitude, trips to Schoodic and Bar Harbor. Ruth & Wimpys was one of our favorite places to eat just minutes from the cabin.

This is a fabulous cabin.
All you need to bring is your own food and make your own fun.
We enjoyed early morning fireside coffee and afternoon hot chocolate at the outside fire pit.
Thank you for a great vacation.

This was a great Maine cabin experience. It's located close to so many fun and beautiful places to day trip to. We lived relaxing, fishing and kayaking. We were entertained by the loons and eagles! We enjoyed all of the harbor towns, Acadia National Parkand The Tidal Falls. We were sorry our time there came to an end.

The cabin is described well in other reviews. My husband and I were on a five week road trip and nine days were spent here. We loved the pond and kayaks provided were a plus. It was disappointing to find no closet or drawers for clothes storage. The cabin is better suited for shorter stays. We lived out of our suitcases and felt disorganized while there. The back door needs to be repaired, we were concerned it would break while we were there. We stayed in other areas of Maine and NH on this trip, and this was the only cabin that doesn’t have some sort of A/C. Evidently we brought some heat from TX with us ~ we did request an extra box fan and it was helpful. Ellsworth is a neat town close by, and we made several trips to Acadia ~ about a 45 minute drive. Bar Harbor is awesome, too. Overall…If ‘rustic’ is your thing, you’ll enjoy this cabin.

We stayed for a week and loved the camp. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom and kitchen are very small, but functional, well stocked and clean. We used the grill more than anything for cooking. We had a couple of questions which were promptly answered. We even met the property manager, who was very nice, when he was installing the deck next door. Our boys caught lots of fish right off the dock. Kayaking out to the rock with the diving board was our favorite part. There are very few outlets throughout the camp, which wouldn’t normally be an issue but we stayed during 95 degree days and had to get very creative to get any relief in the 2 lofts. While the owner is not responsible for the weather it was very difficult for our kids to sleep in the loft with the heat. I do wish there was some sort of air conditioner just for use when it is so unbearably hot to bring the temperature down a bit for safe sleeping. Otherwise this trip was great and we hope to go back again next year!

My family of five (including teenagers) LOVED this place. Although it is not a big place, there was plenty of space for everyone. The lake is magnificent and peaceful. We heard loons every night, saw families of ducks, and ospreys. We made good use of the kayaks and the diving rock. It was about 40 minutes from Acadia National Park.

We had a wonderful time at the Cabin on George's Pond. We appreciated the welcome wildflowers and blueberry jam that the owners left for us. The cabin was exactly as described although once our family arrived we found some areas a little smaller than expected. The kitchen and bathroom were a little tight and we were short one set of towels but there were plenty of beach towels so that wasn't really a problem. It would have been nice if the master bedroom had a nightstand lamp and the lofts had electrical outlets but it's a very old cabin. Even though it was old it was very well kept and very cute and there was plenty of furniture for our family of five. Although the kitchen was small there were lots of dishware, silverware, pots and pans and other cooking utensils. We had a little problem with the propane stove but the owners were very responsive and helped us out very quickly. The living area with the fireplace was very cozy but my husband found it hard to read a "real" book because the cabin only had one lamp that reached a seated area. The rest of us had electronic devices and so it wasn't a problem. I actually read more there than I had in years. I really liked the fireplace and even though it was June we used it in the evenings. The road to get into George's Pond is a little overgrown and when we arrived late the first night it was a little creepy coming down the heavily laden tree road. However the cabin's location on George's was wonderful. The cabin, the deck and the dock looked just like the pictures on VRBO. Even though there were two cabins nearby they were far enough away to make it very quiet and peaceful. The boys fished off the dock - they mostly caught just sunnies which they returned but it was fun because the fish were really biting. We used the kayaks supplied by the owner and rented one from a local company in Franklin. Mike the owner let me reserve the kayak in advance on Facebook (Water's Edge Canoe & Kayak Rentals) and he brought it out & picked it up- which was very helpful. We swam in the pond, kayaked out to the diving board and saw the loons from a distance - the water was surprisingly warm. To summarize, yes it is a small cabin with a few quirks but we had one of the best family vacations in a long time. I would definitely recommend staying there.

My husband and I spent a week at this property in early Fall. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful, rustic cabin. We made the 45 minute drive to Acadia NP every day for hiking and biking, but spent our mornings and evenings on the dock or at the fire pit. We enjoyed stopping at Bar Harbor for drinks and a bite to eat after a day of play, but we’re grateful to escape to the quiet peace of George’s Pond at the day’s end. The host and property manager were both very friendly and responsive. We highly recommend this place to anyone who is interested in a quiet get-away and doesn’t mind a bit of a drive to get to restaurants, shopping and the National Park.

Lakeside relaxation in true cabin form, < 1 hour to Acadia
My husband and I had a very restful week at the George's Pond Cabin. This property is really quaint for those looking for a quiet retreat off the beaten path from the usual Bar Harbor scene.
The waterfront aspect was charming and so lovely to wake up to every morning. I love how many seating options there are outside, from adirondacks to hammocks to nice wooden chairs out on the dock. Growing up in Maine myself, I love the loon calls and tall evergreens. The sun exposure is a tad short with the cabin being hidden in the trees (but there's always the dock), so if you are seeking a sunnier spot, that may be something to consider. It warmed up enough for us to take the kayaks out later in the week as well and we paddled around the island (that we thought was a peninsula!) across the way.
The cabin itself is a true Maine seasonal cabin, that is very cozy but could be more of a shock to a city-dweller (we had to adjust to a dock spider sighting or two, even though I've grown up going to the lake, but they're perfectly harmless). Not being insulated, prepare for cooler weather during the months bordering summertime (we went late Sept). The fireplace and space heater saved us earlier in the week when it dropped to the 30s and 40s.
The primary bedroom is extra cozy and feels a bit more "protected" from the wild as it appears to be a newer addition and the bed is SO luxuriously comfortable. We both slept like babies. You wake up to the natural sunlight streaming in through the lake-facing window which is just perfect.
Franklin doesn't have much to offer as a town but you're only 25 mins to Ellsworth for groceries and 30-60 mins to Acadia depending on what part of the park you're visiting. We did a few shorter hiking trips to Schoodic Mountain and Schoodic Bog to change things up which was a nice option to have.
Thanks for a wonderful time!
