Review 6/22 "This place was heaven on earth!"
***** Clean, Roomy, Comfortable, Very Relaxing--"Our family makes at least 2 trips per year to the mountains. This has been the nicest place we have stayed in thus far. It's so nice to stay in a home where the furniture and bedding aren't worn out. This place was heaven on earth! This will be our go-to place in the future! Randy S., Montgomery, AL
Review 4/1/21 from Maggie R
"We had a wonderful stay at Twig and Nest! The house is both cozy and expansive, with
5 comfortable bedrooms, plus an extra office area, great living room, and a wonderful porch with both covered and open spaces. Very conveniently located close to downtown Highlands. The kitchen was VERY well stocked with anything you could want to cook any meal. More than enough linens, paper products, etc. Owner was very kind and helpful. We were there with 6 adults and 2 little kids and were all comfortable. It felt very luxurious."
"No words can describe how lovely your home is. I felt so at home. I really enjoyed my time there and want to come back next summer for a longer stay." -Jane O.-St. Simons

"What's not to like? This mountain home has it all." James B, Mobile, 10/24/19
Just across the road from the Highlands Falls Country Club is the beautiful little neighborhood of Rolling Woods. Twig and Nest is the crown jewel of the neighborhood, in my view, with its 1000 sf of covered porches and decks, surrounded by woods and gardens facing Little Bear Pen Mountain. My guests' favorite spot to relax is in front of the fireplace on the covered back porch. The porch and deck can comfortably seat 18-20 people. The gunshot view of Little Bear Pen Mountain is a wonderful spot to watch the sunset over the mountain. In addition to the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, there is a fire pit in the back yard for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows under the moonlight--a place for the youngsters and young-at-heart!
Another favorite gathering spot is the two-story Great Room (17'' x 27") containing yet another beautiful stone fireplace, a row of clerestory windows, antler chandelier, wide plank wood floors and seating for 8-10. The Great Room opens up to a sunlit well-equipped chef's kitchen with skylit island, custom cabinetry, farmer's sink, stone countertops, stainless appliances, wine rack, TV, butler's pantry and breakfast bar.
The private dining room seats 8 people comfortably and opens to the Great Room and Kitchen.
Of the five bedrooms, three are private suites with their own bathrooms. There are many places you can retire to inside or out in order rest, watch TV or read a book.
The private, wooded setting of the house affords lovely views from all directions. From the Great Room sofa you can see the terraced gardens in the front and the porches/decks/ mountain at the back of the house. Twig and Nest is great for entertaining with over 1000 sf of porches, decks, and patios comfortably furnished with sofas, swings, and hammocks for ultimate relaxation.
One of the comments I hear frequently by my guests is how spacious the house is. There are places for guests to get away from the group from time to time. The fact that the property has nearly 5,000 sf of indoor and outdoor spaces makes it a wonderful bargain, if comfort and ease are important to your group. If you are just looking for a place to crash and don't mind feeling like sardines in a can, then there are less expensive alternatives, of course, but per square foot, the cost to stay at Twig and Nest is an excellent value.

Highlands, NC is a beautiful mountain town that during a boiling Summer, is a cool refuge. The home is very comfortable, well appointed and has an exceptional covered deck complete with fireplace in a forest setting. Only downside is no mountain view. Still, minutes from town and a beautiful setting.

The location and property were amazing! Me and my friends spent so much time hanging out on the back patio and it was so nice. Host was easy to get in contact with and all of the instructions were super easy to follow. Highly recommend this place for large groups!

As first time visitors to Highlands, gathering for a wedding, three couples shared Twig & Nest for a spacious, comfortable, well-appointed, home base. Twig & Nest was as inviting inside, as it was in the outside living space. Secluded tree-filled view. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Gloriously firm beds, and cozy bedding, in each of the beautifully appointed guest bedrooms. Home owner has meticulously placed notes throughout the home to assist guests in achieving optimal efficiency. Plenty of parking space available. This house is loaded with character, and a lovely spot to make your own mountain memories.

Very nice and interesting home for seven people (5 adults and 2 teenagers)! The family particularly enjoyed eating out on deck and relaxing on the large, open covered porch. Kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals. Loved the mountain and bear decor!
Located close to restaurants, groceries, and shopping, as well as for accessing rivers and hikes to waterfalls. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

The property is so beautiful and charming. The host did an excellent job of responding with any question I had. The back patio is like a tree house, incredibly lovely and relaxing. Although we were extremely busy with my daughter’s wedding we felt lucky to have such a nice place to call ‘home’ for a few days.

We visited over Christmas and the home was cheerfully decorated with an inviting gourmet kitchen for fun holiday cooking. We are return guests and hope for many more visits in the near future. The area is majestic and the home well appointed. Would love to see all the flowers in the Spring!

This home is in an excellent location and has everything that anyone could possibly need for a fun mountain visit. Fully equipped kitchen. Games and puzzles in the game room. The only thing missing were grab rails in the showers and that is a needed addition,

We spent 5 nights at Twig and Nest and had a great time. Close enough to downtown Highlands but secluded enough to feel like you’ve got privacy. The covered porch with fireplace was our favorite spot for mornings and evenings. The kitchen was well- equipped and the property manager even dropped by new knives because he knew we liked to cook. Overall, a very nice vacation and vacation home. The owner was very responsive and helpful too! We will definitely return!

Loved the back porch and fire place and also that fire wood was furnished. Location was good. House was a little dark, not enough lighting. Basement was a little musty smelling.

Charming home, big enough for our family of six with an outside porch that's just plain gorgeous! About two miles from town, tucked away in the woods, this cozy cabin provided a wonderful respite while we were in HIghlands for a family wedding! Everything we needed was there, the host is fantastic and provided notes for us on places to visit, shop and eat! Easy check in and check out. Would definitely want to stay there again if a Highland's visit was in our future. Thank you, Barbara!

We had a nice stay at Barbara’s home! She did a fabulous job communicating with us leading up to our stay and upon arrival. The home is in a very convenient location to downtown Highlands, which is a huge benefit. It was clean upon arrival. The kitchen was well stocked with essentials and the outdoor living space is absolutely incredible.
The bright pictures were a bit misleading as the overall house lighting is dim. While fans are provided, there is no air conditioning in the two main level bedrooms. We found the abundance of signs and directions a bit over the top. And lastly, it would be much appreciated if the trash removal was included in the house cleaning. Overall, we enjoyed our time together and there was plenty of space for our family gather.

We absolutely adored this house. We were in town for a wedding and every moment we didn't spend at the event or hiking, we were sitting on the incredible porch by the fire making memories. Highly highly highly recommend.

Really great house for family. Babies to adults. Convenient to downtown, waterfalls and hikes. Kitchen was very well stocked with cookware and appliances. The porch was our favorite part of the the house. Spent most of our time when at the house out there surrounded by the beautiful area and great weather. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Highlands!

This house was everything we wanted and needed it to be and we would definitely choose it again! We had six adults and three small children and the space was just right — especially the porch! We left the oppressive heat of Charlotte and Winston-Salem behind and we found the cooler temps and low humidity of Highlands to be heavenly. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed, the beds were comfortable, and basic supplies were well provided. Dealing with Barbara was a breeze. This house gets 5/5 from us!

Beautiful home enjoyed by all my family. Had everything we needed. The property is tucked away among the trees with a patio setting we never left. The host provided notes where we knew where everything was the minute we arrived. Booked the house again for next year. My husband and I highly recommend booking you next stay.

Our family greatly enjoyed staying in this home. We were a multi generational group. There was enough space for everyone. The house is beautifully decorated and well appointed. The location is convenient to town, but is very quiet with lovely views from the back porch where we all gathered each morning for coffee and dined several evenings. I would definitely stay here again.

My friends and I had a great stay at this property while we attended Bear Shadow festival . My group of 6 had a ton of space and it was an easy, quick drive to downtown. The home was clean and cozy and we loved having the outdoor patio space.

Barbara was a great host. Check in and instructions for the house were super clear and easy to follow. The house was perfect for us (8 adults). The covered outdoor area and fireplace were amazing for evening fires and conversation. And we loved the close proximity to downtown Highlands. Very short drive and easy access to shops and restaurants.

All good. Just as advertised. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. Comfortable, well equipped, plenty of room. Six of us from 10 to 74 years old. Was great for all. Short drive to beautiful Main Street in highlands. Was record cold but house was always cozy. Sorry it was too frigid to enjoy the nicely furnished covered porch and outdoor fireplace. Highly recommend. We’ll be back!

What a beautiful home to celebrate Christmas with my entire family. Barbara had the home decorated for Christmas and it was stunning. We had everything we needed, town was 5 minutes away. The home had plenty of space for all of us to spread out as well as eat together, play fun family games, etc. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to create family meals and plenty of space for all of us to sit. I can't say enough about how beautiful the home was, how gracious of a host Barbara was and all of the personal touches she did for the holidays.
Two fire places, outdoor seating, a great gas grill which we utilized; plenty of seating for a large group. All of this and only 5 minute from downtown and about 30 minutes in different directions for multiple attractions.
Thank you again Barbara - I hope you will allow my family to enjoy your beautiful place again.
