About this house rental
Roostica Cottage was recently featured in Cottage Journal magazine. But it’s not just good looking. Whether you crave outdoor activity, a low key retreat, or first class shopping and dining, Roostica offers it all.
Renovated and designer appointed, our storybook cottage hosts a group as easily as a romantic getaway for two.
The amenities begin outside where a circular driveway accommodates several cars. The garage offers a 240 volt outlet for electric vehicle charging and a flagstone walk provides easy access to the front door. The vaulted great room is just one step up. Here a large gas fireplace and designer decor welcome you in. Large windows provide wooded views of Lake Sequoyah, the biggest lake in Highlands.
Prefer fresh air? Step into the adjacent screened-in veranda. Here, overstuffed wicker and a wood burning fireplace beckon, especially nice for winter days or cool summer nights. There’s also a daybed for napping, a table for alfresco dining, plus that wonderful wooded, water view.
Back inside, the den offers a wood burning fireplace, WiFi, flatscreen TV with streaming and cable, and a fully equipped kitchen that opens into the living area (so the cook can be part of the fun). Keurig coffee makers in the kitchen and master bedroom offer starter pods and creamers. There is also a basket drip coffee maker and a french press if you prefer. You also have a choice of dining locations: sit 3 at the island, 4 on the veranda or 8 in the great room.
Don’t feel like cooking? You can walk, or kayak, to the elegant “On the Veranda” restaurant—5 minutes on foot—or make reservations on Main St., a 4 minute drive.
Finally, after a day of shopping, dining, exploring nearby waterfalls and other nature activities, retire to one of Roostica’s three bedrooms—all with private baths.
The upstairs master offers a king bed with fireplace, sitting area, flatscreen TV, private coffee station and wooded, lake view.
For those who appreciate easy access, two main floor suites—one with two twin beds, the other with a queen—await only one step up from the driveway.
The lower floor offers cable TV, foosball, and other table games like ping pong. You’ll also find board games, books, puzzles, and more. With a twin size daybed and twin trundle that makes up into a king, plus the basement half bath (not yet renovated), this area is suited for young teens or children, with the added bonus of a full size washer and dryer for mom and dad.
Outside, a path winds gently through the backyard & across the road to a private dock with kayaks. In warmer weather you also can fish, swim or just play in the water. Feel like cocooning? Log into Roostica’s internet, watch cable TV, or build a fire. Firewood is stacked next to the garage.

We stayed for 2 weeks and had a wonderful stay. Location in Highlands is a big plus, as it’s a quick drive into town and nice to have a small doc to go fishing with our little girl. Would recommend !

We stayed two weeks and most things about the house met our expectations. The glassware, especially wine glasses, need a major update. We had to add/change light bulbs in several places. The refrigerator had to be replaced during our stay—and the ice maker did not work after replacement. (owner responded quickly to replace refrigerator) The description of the downstairs, particularly the “half bath” was not what we expected. Overall, the house is very nice and well appointed.

Comfortable and cozy home with the exception of the cramped toilet and closet in the master bedroom. The toilet was the size of a child’s toilet.

Fantastic layout with space for folks to retreat to their rooms or everyone hang together in the common areas. The screened porch is awesome.
Downtown Highlands is a short, easy drive.

Our girlfriend get away to the highlands, could not have been any more special. Everything about this home was well thought out and cozy! The furnishings, the decor, the fireplaces ...everything just made you want to move in permanently. The ease of communication to the manager with any questions I had was exemplary. Another precious guest had commented about the tight turn, going up to the master area, as well as the access to the toilet, might be a little challenging for those without great mobility… But I will say if that was the case, they would be staying on the main level and not upstairs anyway. We found it to be charming and not a hindrance at all. The linens were in great shape, lovely in an abundance of cozy throw blankets to nestle in front of any of the four fireplaces. Downtown was also very easily accessible just a few minutes away, even though you feel like you are isolated from the rest of the world. Highly recommend you book this lovely home and explore everything the area has to offer. We look forward to coming back year after year!

This property was perfect for our family gathering. Beautiful home was located close to town and hikes. We enjoyed every inch of this property and highly recommend a stay here. The beds were super comfortable, with the softest sheets (everyone in our group commented on this). There were 8 in our group and this house had everything we needed. We want to return and highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time! Roostica is a perfect getaway. We had four adults and four children (2 infants and 2 toddlers) and it was a great to fit us all comfortably and in a kid friendly (but also beautiful) way. And it's perfectly situated near town but in a quiet setting with great lake view. Would recommend and hope to come back!

Charming but...
The location is great and the home is charming but it is starting to show wear inside (chipped paint, worn doors) and the dock (across the street) is not maintained. Very weedy to get to, and the dock is peeling badly. The upstairs master bedroom is attractive but the stairs made it hard to get to and the master bath has several "platforms" which can be a trip hazard. Also, the grill while usable is rusted out and needs replaced.

Wonderful home in great location
Beautifully appointed and maintained property with easy access to town. It is also nice to get away from the crowds of downtown during “special event” weekends and retreat to such a comfortable home. Really enjoyed the screen porch and the easy access to the lake to throw a few casts to tease the native fish. We hope to return and enjoy this property again.

Excellent retreat
We absolutely loved staying at Roostica! Incredibly cozy and comfortable and provided just what our family needed..cozy setting, comfortable beds, screened in porch for meal times, kayaks, beach towels and an excellent assortment of fun games. Everything we needed was right there. We spent our days hiking, rafting, golfing and exploring and it was so wonderful to come in each afternoon to such a lovely place. We will return again for another stay at roostica! Only issue we had was trying to work the TV. We never could get it to work. Wasn’t a huge issue for us but if you desire to have TV you may want to make sure you get all directions ahead of time.

Girl's Trip
We had a blast and the property was beyond our expectations! It served all our needs. It allowed us to congregate & laugh like we haven't in 2 years!!!! It also provided space to have our personal time. Could not have asked for better even if we designed it! Highlands, NC is beautiful with many attractions & we enjoyed all! We have already started stashing away our splurge money to rent next year!!!!

Rustic and Elegant
We felt so comfortable in this beautifully decorated home. The beds were so comfortable; we can to relax and rest and did. The back porch was perfect for morning coffee and evening social time. The location was perfect for Highlands activities and hiking water falls in Cashiers. Loved the lake being just down the path.

Highlands Getaway
Roostica Cottage was just the right place for our getaway weekend. It provided us with a quiet, comfortable, and lovely setting for relaxation. We especially enjoyed the screened porch area with a wood-burning fireplace overlooking Sequoyah Lake. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals. The kayaks were enjoyed as were the lakeside dock and sitting area. We will hope to stay here again when we return to Highlands.

Beautiful cottage! Well appointed, especially loved the fireplaces and screened porch. Enough room for 3 couples to enjoy a special birthday celebration.

Perfect short spring break!
Adorable, cozy home equipped with everything we needed! Great location close to downtown Highlands. It snowed while there and roads were icy, so we stayed in more than expected and the fireplaces, puzzles, beautiful view of lake and well equipped kitchen were perfection. Looking forward to booking our next stay in warm weather.

Can't Wait to Return Back
I can't say enough good things about this property. The owner is fantastic to work with and I have near been in a rental property that was that clean. It had plenty of room for the family and could be in Highland in 5 minutes. Can't wait to return.

Nice house
Overall the property was fine but it is not quite as open as the pictures appear! Master bedroom is pretty but staircase was narrow & layout of bathroom was not easy to maneuver. Anyone with physical limitations may not be able to access the space.

Quiet retreat
Great place. We enjoyed the quiet, and proximity to town. Wish the weather had been better, but no control over that. However, it did not dampen our time. Looking forward to returning next year.

Beautiful and peaceful
This home has it all. It is exquisitely designed , warm and cozy with plenty of room for all of us to spread out. The bathroom showers all roomy and well appointed. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch having coffee and enjoying the 1 of 3 fireplaces. Lose to town and an awesome restaurant, the “Veranda” . Great getaway ! Thank you so much for making our stay great!

A wonderful getaway
Thank you for opening your beautiful home. We had a lovely three-night stay with five girlfriends. We loved the location and setting. The house was so cozy and provided everything you would need for a beautiful fall weekend. We built a fire, had dinner in one night, and loved being close to town for dinners out. This rental has everything you would need, and the beds are so comfortable. We loved drinking wine and sitting by the fire chatting away.

Highlands Adventures!
The cottage was amazing. Beautiful view of lake sequoyah, relaxing porch w fireplace, many fireplaces inside too. Beds very comfy and nice, soft towels. Nice complimentary bath gel, shampoo, etc. Each morning, we opened the drapes, which were luxurious, to see the fall leaves and view of the lake. Oh yes, the kayaks provided were an added bonus.
