We loved our stay in the family room. We were all pleasantly surprised with the size of the rooms, I didn't expect there to be a second room for childrens bunk beds. The boys were especially delighted with the toys and Peppa pig curtains.
The bathroom needs a deep clean as there is a bit of mould around the shower screen and bath tub. Big spider webs on the ceilings.

Great for an overnight dog stays
Would have liked more daylight in the room. Window had shrubs in front of it.

The surroundings and pub itself are lovely. The bed was comfy.
The bedroom was covered in mould, the bathroom had mould spores growing in it - there was no way we were showering in there, there were lots of spiders in the room, there was foliage growing the patio doors, the curtains were filthy. If we hadnt had a drink there is no way we would have stayed. We complained through booking.com before we left a review so we could give a fair and balanced review, however they havent had the courtesy to reply or acknowledge the complaint. Half of the food was not available - 4 things we wanted we couldnt have.

I expected just a family en-suite room however the main bedroom had a separate bedroom for the children which was great! Staff couldn’t help enough to arrange a taxi for us as we were heading to a wedding. Brilliant huge breakfast the next morning.

Basic room but clean and comfortable Food in the pub was excellent value and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Wifi a bit unstable.

The welcome was friendly. There was a place to store my bike which was the main reason for booking. My meal at night and breakfast was pretty good too.

pleasant local pub/inn
there was an outside light that was left on all night and lit my room up as if it was daylight. I was hoping it would be turned off when the pub closed for the night but unfortunately not. The light needs to go on a timer or the room (no. 1) needs black out curtains added behind existing curtains.

Young man and lady behind the bar were friendly. The food was fine albeit only a limited 2 for £14 meals were available .
Our room was clean. Dog friendly.
Two tv's in room - were unable to get either to work. Notified staff but noone responded .We booked breakfast for the following morning however, the pub did not open . We tried telephoning and messaging the manager on the emergency number and no one answered, returned our calls or responded to our messages. Good job it wasn't an emergency ! No answer either from the pub landline. Ended up going into Matlock to find somewhere to have breakfast. Really disappointing way to treat guests. We were charged £80.00 for the room . Breakfast was extra, we didn't pay in advance thank goodness but there was another couple who had prepaid and were planning to go back later in the day to see ifthe pub was open and to ask for a refund.

Room clean, warm and excellent value for money.
Plenty of free parking
Ideally I'd prefer an earlier breakfast. Didn't start until 9.30am

Location and decent food at premises.

Nice to have a pub on the property (although they didn't have a table so we couldn't eat dinner there), coffee tea making facilities in the room, ok for one night stay if you are planning to hike in the Peak District.
Way too overpriced for how basic and tiny the room was, it wasn't too clean either and tv was broken. Booking site says no extra charge for pets but we were asked to pay £10 and they did not even apologise when we raised that it's misleading. We didn't feel particularly welcome by staff, they didn't seem to be aware that we were coming. There were better places to stay in the nearby for a lot cheaper.

comfortable room, it was warm.
Wanted dinner so was told to just show up. when we did it was busy, half the pub was closed for a private function and there were no tables.
booked breakfast. was told it ran from 9am until everyone had eaten. showed up at 9:15, pub completely locked up and no one to be seen.
went elsewhere for dinner and breakfast and glad we did

Lovely old pub, great location for waking to the waterfalls & down the hill into Matlock. However the walk back up is seriously tuff recomend getting a taxi back up £5. Rooms were ok what you would expect for the price, separate from the pub so not noisy & you can take your dogs for no extra charge which was great. Food at the pub was good the only fault with our room was a leek from the bathroom so all the carpet was wet at the side of the bed.

A pleasant call to a person when leaving a message for a manager.
We decided NOT to stay at the Duke of Wellington due to a number of reasons. The staff were ignorant from the moment we arrived. We were given only verbal instruction on how to reach our room which was situated outside. It was one of the coldest nights of the year and the path to the room was dark and icy and up stone steps. The room was cold, the heating was not on despite them knowing what time we were arriving. The TV was not working, the room was dreadfully tiny and the kitchen was closed! We could not face walking around the town trying to find someone to eat and couldn't face eating takeaway in a hostile room so we found somewhere else which was a completely better story for £10 less!!
We were not asked why we were not staying when we handed the key back. They frankly didn't care.
Unfortunately, it appears management have been equally ignorant as they have declined to answer my email for a request for a refund. They have also not returned my telephone call.

Food was lovely. Room was in a nice old converted barn around the back. Bar area was a quaint old pub style. Staff were lovely and helpful

Booking was fine & a good location for Matlock
For £80 without breakfast I expect a reasonable standard, this place was poor, plaster bubbling on the walls, the furniture was bubbling as well, & the bathroom tiles were starting to come off. The TV was basically hanging on for life & you couldn't move it either. The walls also looked grubby, looking at the pictures for this place, it was a a bit of let down, not good value at all for the price paid...

The staff was friendly
The room wasn't cleaned had mould in the windows the bed was awful could feel the springs through the mattress plus someone had been in our room when we was out and left the door unlocked the food was terrible wasn't cooked as is should be plus had loafs of maintenance work needed ti be done as you can see in the pictures I have added

Staff very cheerful.
Small sink/ water heater - not easy to wash without splashing water all over the place.
No instructions for different switches on wall near the telly on the right hand side. ( Was it for heating the room?)

Nice clean accomodation for a fair price, ideally situated for sorrounding villages, bakewell, matlock, matlock bath.
Men kept us awake, talking around the rooms till 02.30 A M not good with driving to be done the next morning.
